Nice to Meet You Episode 36 Recap
> Nice to Meet You Recap
As Rui Hua's 40th-anniversary celebration and Yu Zhi and Gao Jie's engagement party began, the company matriarch delivered a speech about Rui Hua's founding principles, emphasizing the hope that their jewelry would symbolize true love passed down through generations. She then invited her grandson, Yu Zhi, to the stage. Yu Zhi spoke of Rui Hua's future in the unknown tomorrow, aiming for brighter achievements. However, guests soon grew impatient and called for the bride to appear.
Backstage, Gao Jie confessed to Pinzhen that she was incredibly nervous, but Pinzhen reassured her, saying she would be fine once she saw Yu Zhi. Gao Jie walked down the aisle in her wedding gown, brimming with happiness and a sense of finally becoming Yu Zhi's bride after enduring so much. Yet, Yu Zhi remained impassive, his heart aching with disappointment. As applause broke out, Gao Hui, with her eyes widened, ran backstage, pursued by a concerned Yu Yi.
Before Gao Hui could make a scene with the microphone, Yu Zhi's voice resonated through the hall, stating his intention to request a crucial personnel dismissal from Rui Hua's Board of Directors. He publicly accused Mu Ziyun, the President of Rui Hua's Plain Gold Group, and Gao Jie, Rui Hua's Chief Designer, of privately transferring stocks to harm the company's interests. He demanded their immediate dismissal and termination of their employment.
Mu Ziyun, feigning deep sorrow, looked at Gao Jie, while Gao Hui watched with satisfaction. Yu Zhi then confronted Mu Ziyun, asking if she truly believed his accusations were "nonsense." He pointedly reminded everyone that Mu Ziyun was Gao Jie's aunt, and they had colluded to damage Rui Hua's commercial interests. Mu Ziyun, still playing the victim, lamented giving her all to the Yu family and Rui Hua, only to be dismissed as an outsider.
Gao Hui, seizing the moment, mocked Gao Jie, questioning if she still dared to marry a Yu family member. As Mu Ziyun made her exit, Yu Zhi walked over to a stunned Gao Jie, coldly telling her there was no need to continue her act, as the "drama was already over." Enraged and heartbroken, Gao Jie splashed a glass of red wine in his face.
Yu Zhi, maintaining a chilling composure, grabbed her arm and dragged her away from the bewildered crowd. Outside the venue, Gao Jie struggled against Yu Zhi's grip, demanding to know why he had humiliated her. Yu Zhi retorted that she was the one who first insulted him and Rui Hua.
He then revealed the extent of Mu Ziyun's betrayal: she had colluded with Fancy, acquiring 49% of Rui Hua's equity and was only 2% short of gaining control of the company. He implied that the missing 2% came from Gao Jie. Gao Jie was utterly shocked, protesting that it was impossible; her aunt had claimed the shares were needed to pay off a debt.
Realizing she had been deceived by Mu Ziyun, Gao Jie desperately tried to explain, but Yu Zhi dismissed her pleas, stating he couldn't believe her at this point. He told her his heart had "died long ago" when he discovered she had hidden her relationship with Mu Ziyun from him. Gao Jie admitted her fault in keeping their family connection a secret but argued it was difficult given Yu Zhi's animosity towards her aunt.
Yu Zhi, however, accused her of betraying Rui Hua, his grandmother, and their love, reminding her that he had given her "chance after chance" to be honest. Gao Jie then realized the agonizing truth: Yu Zhi had known all along, silently biding his time, pretending ignorance to deal her a devastating blow at their engagement. Questioning the meaning of their love and why it didn't deserve his trust, Gao Jie received a bitter response from Yu Zhi.
He accused her of using his love to deceive him and help Mu Ziyun trick Rui Hua. He pulled out the engagement ring she had designed, condemning her designs and her character as "hypocritical" and "disgusting," before throwing the ring into a nearby pool. Gao Jie collapsed to the ground, heartbroken, as Yu Zhi walked away. Later, Grandma Lin Xue offered Mu Ziyun tea, acknowledging her sacrifices for the Yu family and Rui Hua over the years.
Grandma insisted she had always tried to protect Mu Ziyun, even making personal sacrifices when the company lost rubies, and felt she had done nothing to hurt her. Mu Ziyun, however, scoffed at the idea of being protected, asserting that Grandma only protected her own bloodline.
She bitterly recounted how she had dedicated and worked hard for the Yu family and Rui Hua, propping up Rui Hua for years due to the shortcomings of Grandma's two sons, only to be used as a stepping stone for the grandsons. Grandma tried to reason that Rui Hua needed "legacy and innovation," which Yu Zhi and Yu Yi could bring, but Mu Ziyun remained convinced she was merely a "tool" to stabilize the company temporarily.
Believing she would never truly compare to the grandsons in Grandma's eyes, Mu Ziyun declared she had to "think for myself" to protect her "last line of defense." Grandma offered to buy all of Mu Ziyun's and Yu Guanghua's shares, but Mu Ziyun defiantly refused, stating she would never sell her shares to anyone from the Yu family. With a dramatic flourish, she handed Grandma her resignation letter, asserting that she was "firing" them.
Meanwhile, Gao Jie tried to call Mu Ziyun, but her calls went unanswered. At the engagement venue, Yu Yi took charge of the cleanup, apologizing to guests for the unfortunate events and assuring them the PR department was handling the fallout to minimize the negative impact. Gao Hui, reveling in Gao Jie's humiliation, told Yu Yi that Yu Zhi had "ruthlessly" beaten her to her own plan of exposure.
Yu Yi warned her that even without Gao Jie, her chances with Yu Zhi were not guaranteed. Suddenly, Gao Hai confronted Yu Zhi, punching him for publicly humiliating Gao Jie. Yu Yi quickly intervened, reminding Gao Hai of Rui Hua's anniversary and Gao Hui's position in the company. Gao Hai warned Yu Zhi that if anything happened to Gao Jie, he would hold him responsible.
Back at Rui Hua, Grandma confronted Yu Zhi and Yu Yi, furious that the public spectacle had severely damaged Rui Hua's reputation. Yu Zhi staunchly defended his actions, stating he knew Grandma would have "let Mu Ziyun off the hook again" if he had approached her privately, just like in the past. Grandma reflected on Yu Zhi's deep-seated resentment towards her and Mu Ziyun, but still clung to the idea of family unity.
Yu Zhi, however, argued that a facade of family peace was less important than protecting Rui Hua from betrayal. He affirmed that Rui Hua would no longer have to worry about being betrayed by its own family. Meanwhile, Gao Jie found Mu Ziyun at a teahouse and confronted her about the 2% shares.
Mu Ziyun calmly admitted her intentions, stating she wanted those shares to sell Rui Hua, believing it was what the company "owed" her after her years of hard work. Gao Jie was devastated, realizing she had been manipulated by her closest relative and had lost everything, including Yu Zhi. Mu Ziyun tried to comfort her by promising that Gao Jie and her mother would be well taken care of financially, living a better life away from the family quarrels.
But Gao Jie was inconsolable, lamenting that Mu Ziyun had "completely broke my love with Yu Zhi" and that she had nothing now. Mu Ziyun then cynically questioned Yu Zhi's sincerity, suggesting he was just as manipulative as she was. She argued that Yu Zhi had known about their relationship all along, had been "testing" Gao Jie, and deliberately humiliated her at such a public event.
Gao Jie, overwhelmed by grief and betrayal, tearfully begged Mu Ziyun to stop talking and fled the teahouse. Zhao Yue advised Mu Ziyun to divorce Yu Guanghua, but Mu Ziyun, still holding 49% of Rui Hua's stocks (including Zhou Weixian's and Yu Guanghua's), refused to accept defeat and vowed to find another way to gain control.
Later, Grandma told Yu Yi and Yu Zhi that since they had already grown up and were full of ideas, the situation would be handled according to protocol. She asked Yu Yi to minimize the negative impact on Rui Hua's image. Then, to Yu Yi's surprise, Grandma announced that Yu Zhi would replace Mu Ziyun in her former position.
Yu Zhi tried to decline, suggesting Yu Yi was more capable, but Grandma insisted, holding Yu Zhi responsible for the "mess" and tasking him with managing the Plain Gold Group, urging him not to let her down again.
On the way home, Yu Yi expressed his bewilderment to Grandma, arguing that as the eldest grandson with a Master's degree and extensive management experience, he should be given control of the crucial Plain Gold Group, not Yu Zhi, who had been "drifting abroad" and lacked experience. Grandma explained her reasoning: while Yu Yi was steady and experienced, vital for the Inlay Group and Rui Hua's financial stability as CFO, Yu Zhi possessed an innovative and risk-taking spirit.
She believed Mu Ziyun's departure offered a prime opportunity for the Plain Gold Group to reform its declining profits, and she wanted Yu Zhi to implement his methods there, seeing it as a way for him to grow and eventually become a valuable asset to Yu Yi.
