Ning Yi, having just escaped, saw a young woman fall into the river. Without hesitation, he jumped in to save Nie Yunzhu, who lived alone by the Qinhuai River. With their clothes soaked, Nie Yunzhu invited Ning Yi to stay and dry his clothes. Ning Yi was surprised she lived alone by the river despite not knowing how to swim, and he introduced himself, asking her to call him "Young Master Ning," though she preferred "benefactor."

He also boasted about his health and noted her good lifestyle, particularly the corn, which he said was sweet and good for health. Meanwhile, Su Tan'er discovered Ning Yi was missing from home. She found Guard Geng engrossed in a novel titled "High-handed Young Master Falls in Love with Me, Part II," realizing Ning Yi had bought him off. Su Tan'er threatened to burn the book, prompting Guard Geng to immediately lead her to find Ning Yi.

They found Ning Yi’s luggage by the river, and a watermelon vendor informed them he had jumped in, causing Guard Geng to cry out in distress. Su Tan'er then heard Ning Yi's voice nearby and followed it. They found Ning Yi at Nie Yunzhu's house, where he was playfully catching geese, while Nie Yunzhu dried his clothes. Ning Yi went inside to change after his clothes were dry, but Nie Yunzhu accidentally spilled water on him again.

As she helped him take off his wet clothes, Su Tan'er walked in, witnessing the scene. Ning Yi knew a dramatic moment was upon him and was speechless, so he grabbed the basket of duck eggs Nie Yunzhu offered as thanks and pursued Su Tan'er to explain, claiming it was all a misunderstanding.

He tried to tell her he had heroically saved Nie Yunzhu from drowning and that she had pledged "duck eggs" in return, but Su Tan'er was angry, complaining he always got his clothes wet when he went out alone. Ning Yi even mentioned "Danmu" (live commenting) laughing at them, which confused Su Tan'er, who thought "Danmu" was a girl. She then had Ning Yi confined to the kitchen to reflect, though he insisted he was wronged.

Soon after, the Elder Master and his servant A Da entered the kitchen, wielding a stick, ready to punish Ning Yi for "hanging out with other girls." Su Tan'er's mother, Yao, had informed her of the Elder Master's fury. Su Tan'er rushed to the kitchen, fearing for Ning Yi, but found him chatting amicably with A Da, complaining that both Su Tan'er and her father were stubborn. Ning Yi then realized his initial accusations against the Elder Master were mistaken.

A Da clarified that the Elder Master had actually saved Ning Yi from the black-clad assailants in the forest and had given Ning Yi the expensive Western mosquito repellent as a goodwill gesture, wanting him to treat Su Tan’er well. It also turned out that the Elder Master had sent Guard Geng with Ning Yi to Xinmen Brothel specifically to test his character; had Ning Yi misbehaved, he would have been severely punished.

Ning Yi then earnestly pledged that all his actions were solely to help Su Tan'er secure the Family Representative Seal, finally understanding his father-in-law's stern but caring nature. Now understanding the Elder Master's good intentions, Ning Yi enthusiastically began assisting Su Tan'er with the cloth store. He declared the store closed for a day for "business training," reorganizing the layout by removing cluttered counters and tables to create more space.

He also trained the staff on polite greetings and service slogans, having them practice "Welcome, guest of honor! Please choose at will. What can I do for you?" with a smile. Ning Yi also took the initiative to mark out dedicated parking spaces outside the store. Su Tan'er was initially puzzled by these changes, but trusted Ning Yi and decided to follow his lead.

Ning Yi explained his reasoning: he had observed that despite Su's Cloth Store's superior location compared to Dachuan's, it had fewer customers. He realized that selling high-quality fabric at low prices made customers doubt their product.

Citing the Su clan’s ancestral motto, "to protect and expand the family business, to make the world better in its prosperity," Ning Yi proposed that rather than selling expensive fabric cheaply, they should raise prices on premium fabric for profit, and simultaneously develop practical, affordable fabrics for common people. This "precise positioning" would ensure each fabric sold to those who truly needed it, fulfilling the ancestral motto. Su Tan'er was greatly impressed, realizing Ning Yi genuinely wanted to help her.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, she felt a flicker of something more, and quickly made an excuse about household duties to leave. Ning Yi later noticed the Elder Master frequently passing by the cloth store, observing from afar but never entering. He even knew Su Tan'er’s favorite part of lamb for dinner, revealing his deep care for her. Ning Yi urged him to be more open and communicate directly with his daughter.

The new parking spaces quickly drew in more affluent customers, with some, like Li Pin, noting the convenience compared to the parking issues at other establishments like Wu's. When some of the cloth store's staff resisted Ning Yi's orders, Su Tan'er publicly announced that Ning Yi’s authority was equal to her own, surprising Li Pin, who admired Ning Yi’s status despite his "transgressions." Ning Yi warmly welcomed his classmates, inviting them to choose high-priced garments as gifts for their wives.

Meanwhile, Wu Qihao went to Xinmen Brothel and purchased the services of all the courtesans, prohibiting them from serving other establishments. The madam, Yang Mama, was content as long as she received the payment, regardless of Wu Qihao's motives. With business booming, Manager Xi worried that the workshop couldn't keep up with the overwhelming orders, risking delayed deliveries. Ning Yi, however, had already anticipated this.

When the Elder Master arrived for an inspection, Ning Yi unveiled a new steam-powered weaving machine designed to significantly increase production efficiency and ensure timely deliveries at low cost for mass production. The Elder Master was extremely pleased with the dramatic increase in profits, praising Su Tan'er's and Ning Yi's efforts. He even chastised the Second Master, noting that Su Tan’er's monthly turnover now matched the Second Master's annual profits, instructing him to learn from her.

Ning Yi congratulated Su Tan'er on getting closer to the Family Representative Seal, though she seemed downcast, making him wonder if he'd said something wrong. Meanwhile, Yao, Su Tan'er's mother, boasted to her friends about Ning Yi's "wife-prospering face" and how he had made their cloth business flourish, leading her friends to believe the First Master's family would surely secure the Family Representative Seal. Yao then expressed concern and sought advice from her friends.

Later that night, Ning Yi was ambushed by black-clad figures. Wu Qihao appeared, revealing he was behind the previous attack as well, and intended to kill Ning Yi this time for impacting his business with the parking spaces and for marrying Su Tan'er. Just as Wu Qihao was about to deliver a final blow, his father intervened, scolding him for causing trouble over a woman and ordering him to return home. Ning Yi was saved, and Wu Qihao angrily declared they would settle things at the upcoming Jade Garden Poetry Meeting.
