When Yuan Jin’er and Nie Yunzhu were selling preserved eggs, a rude official, Commandant Song, approached and attempted to flirt with Nie Yunzhu. To protect her sister, Yuan Jin’er deliberately provoked him, bravely confronting him and telling him she was Yuan Jin’er from Xinmen Brothel, suggesting he bother her instead. Impressed by her spirited demeanor, Commandant Song, who was in Jiangning for the unresolved tributary cloth matter, found the prospect of a "fiery girl" like Yuan Jin’er entertaining.

Nie Yunzhu, however, worried about the consequences of offending an official, but Yuan Jin’er assured her she had ways to handle him, her greater concern being their slow-selling preserved eggs. Soon after, Ning Yi’s friends arrived, having been asked by Ning Yi to assist. They promoted the preserved eggs, which they called "Songhua eggs," describing them with captivating stories and poetic phrases.

Despite initial skepticism about the eggs' unusual appearance, the public was drawn in by the persuasive marketing and the unique taste, leading to a bustling business and a daily net income of over 30 strings of coins. To show her gratitude, Nie Yunzhu offered to teach Ning Yi's friends how to make preserved eggs, and the friends soon began experimenting with new recipes like preserved egg congee and fried rice.

Ning Yi, aware that his friends felt he had favored Nie Yunzhu with the recipe, then appeared and proposed a "Zhu" alliance business. He suggested establishing a flagship store, "Zhu," and inviting them to join as franchisees. Ning Yi explained that the flagship store would produce the eggs, which the franchisees could buy at cost and sell at a unified price, ensuring profitability.

Despite one friend's initial financial concerns about the franchise fee, credit was offered, a system initiated by Ning Yi, provided they undergo training at the flagship store. This initiative quickly gained momentum, with more people joining the alliance, and Ning Yi's friends diligently promoted the "Zhu" name.

Meanwhile, Manager Xi, now working for the Wu family, had successfully replicated many of Su’s business strategies, and Wu Qihao further aimed to monopolize customer parking by purchasing surrounding land near the Su’s Cloth Store, which Su’s had initially monopolized. Manager Xi also informed Wu Qihao about Ning Yi’s booming preserved egg franchise. Annoyed by Ning Yi's continued success, Wu Qihao decided to assert his dominance in Jiangning.

He then sent his men to smash the preserved egg stands, claiming Commandant Song had issued a notice citing the eggs’ strong smell as a public nuisance, despite no official public announcement. During the ensuing chaos, Shen Miao, one of Ning Yi's friends, was injured. Enraged, Ning Yi vowed to make Wu Qihao pay tenfold for hurting his friend and destroying their business.

Geng Guard advised caution initially due to the Wu family's power, but Ning Yi's unwavering resolve to avenge his friend and business convinced Geng Guard and all his friends to join him in seeking revenge. The destruction of the preserved egg business coincided with the devastating decline of the Su’s Cloth Store, as all its customers had flocked to the Wu family.

Heartbroken, Su Tan’er made the painful decision to close all the cloth stores, sell off inventory for cash, and hoped to reopen when a new strategy emerged. This decision, coupled with Ning Yi's confrontation with Wu Qihao, provoked a strong rebuke from the Second Master’s family, who accused them of squandering the family's assets and destroying the Su clan.

The Elder Master, though initially hesitant and expressing distrust, listened as Su Tan’er made a solemn pledge: she requested one month to revive their fortunes by selling preserved eggs. If they failed, she would return the Family Representative Seal, and the First Master’s family would never again meddle in the Su family’s business. Furthermore, she and Ning Yi would use all their personal assets to compensate for any losses.

Ning Yi, confirming he had a plan for the displaced workers, then revealed their new venture: selling preserved eggs. Despite Geng Guard's skepticism, Ning Yi assured him to trust his judgment, promising clarity soon. Ning Yi sold the remaining cloth stores to purchase numerous preserved egg carts. He launched the "Zhu Club" membership system, with Nie Yunzhu and Yuan Jin’er providing training and collecting detailed customer information to understand their preferences.

This innovative approach proved immensely successful, generating a net profit of over 14,000 taels in just one month. Ning Yi then proposed using these earnings to open a permanent "Zhu Restaurant" to serve as the flagship store, which would spare Nie Yunzhu the hardship of street vending. All his friends enthusiastically agreed and were invited to invest. To celebrate, Yuan Jin’er offered to sing a celebratory song. Meanwhile, at a banquet, Wu Qihao hosted Commandant Song.

Wu Qihao, boasting of his success, inadvertently revealed to Song that he had publicized Song’s support for the Wu family’s tributary cloth dealings. Angered by this indiscretion, Commandant Song severely reprimanded Wu Qihao, threatening him with dire consequences if he ever compromised official matters again. During the banquet, Song was captivated by Yuan Jin’er’s singing from the neighboring room. Wu Qihao's subordinate then went to retrieve Yuan Jin’er, who reluctantly left the celebration to perform for Song.

Afterward, Ning Yi sent Nie Yunzhu and his friends home, despite their humorous bickering about who would escort Nie Yunzhu. Ning Yi then noticed the commotion from Song’s room and heard Yuan Jin’er’s cries for help. Rushing to her aid, he confronted Commandant Song, who was attempting to force himself on Yuan Jin’er. Ning Yi tried to defuse the situation, but Song drew his sword.

Just as Ning Yi's life was in peril, a mysterious black-clad woman, Lu Hongti, intervened, attacking Commandant Song and saving Ning Yi. Though she managed to escape the ensuing pursuit by the officers, she was wounded. Ning Yi, grateful for her intervention, secretly followed her. Finding her injured and still pursued, he came to her rescue, leading her to a small courtyard.

Ning Yi, eager to befriend his rescuer, talked profusely, praising her heroism and declaring them allies due to their shared animosity towards Song Xian. Lu Hongti, however, remained silent, leading Ning Yi to wonder if she was mute, only for her to defensively raise her sword when he approached.
