My Dear Lady Recap

Episode 1 Recap

Ling Xunxun, a 29-year-old woman, was once the envy of many, known as a school belle from a prestigious university with a combination of beauty, wisdom, and excellent grades. After graduation, she chose to forgo a big company offer and married her love, enjoying life as a housewife and raising a lovely son, Dudu. However, Ling Xunxun had to admit that her once-proud life was now a thing of the past.

Her husband's infidelity led to an immediate divorce, and in a fit of pride, she refused any compensation. This decision proved foolish as she soon found herself without an income, unable to gain custody of her son, Dudu, who remained with her ex-husband. She was forced to live with her best friend, Zhou Quan, and embarked on a job search, feeling even worse off than a fresh graduate.

Despite the challenges, Ling Xunxun was determined to find a job and regain custody of her son, vowing to depend on herself. One day, while heading home, Ling Xunxun accidentally collided with a luxury car. The car's owner, Cheng Li, sternly told her she was fully responsible and handed her a business card, instructing her to contact his assistant for a private settlement.

Ling Xunxun initially tried to offer a small sum of 2,000 yuan but quickly realized the immense value of his car and the potential cost of repairs. To her dismay, her car insurance had just expired, making her fully liable for what her friends in the industry estimated would be over half a million yuan in repairs.

Meanwhile, her best friend, Zhou Quan, tirelessly helped her search for employment, but Ling Xunxun's seven-year absence from the workforce made it challenging for this highly-educated woman to find a suitable position, leading to comments from others about her underachievement. The following morning, Ling Xunxun dressed professionally and asked Zhou Quan for a ride, explaining she needed to negotiate the car compensation.

Upon arriving at the address on the business card, she discovered the company’s boss was holding interviews for a private assistant position. The role demanded 24/7 standby and involved managing both business affairs and domestic duties. Many aspiring candidates, hoping to secure a wealthy partner, emerged from their interviews in tears. Ling Xunxun, learning of the position, decided to try her luck. The car owner turned out to be Cheng Li, the young boss of the company.

After reviewing Ling Xunxun’s resume, Cheng Li immediately dismissed her, citing her age (29), her marriage right after graduation, and her complete lack of professional experience. Ling Xunxun, desperate, called out to him. She explained that she had caused the accident, but her car insurance had expired, leaving her responsible for over half a million yuan in repairs. Having just divorced without any financial compensation, she was destitute.

She pleaded for the private assistant position, promising to dedicate herself to the job and work tirelessly to repay him, framing it as a mutually beneficial arrangement. However, Cheng Li remained unmoved, stating her story wasn't touching and he was not impressed, concluding that she was simply not qualified for the demanding role. He even suggested she wear a neater coat for future interviews.

Ling Xunxun felt a pang of regret, wondering if her life would be different had she not abandoned her career seven years ago. The next morning, Ling Xunxun returned to Cheng Li's office and waited persistently, even after being removed by security. Annoyed by her unwavering presence, Cheng Li eventually called her in. He acknowledged her persistence but reiterated that she was not suitable for the job, advising her to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Ling Xunxun, however, insisted that this was her only chance and pointed out that he still hadn’t found a suitable candidate despite interviewing over a hundred people. She offered to work on a free trial basis. Finally, Cheng Li, out of options, gave her a daunting task: to clean the entire company, including the bathrooms, as a test of her capabilities. Ling Xunxun readily accepted the challenge.

Later, Cheng Li returned to his office to find Ling Xunxun still diligently cleaning. He expressed his annoyance, admitting he had assigned the strenuous tasks hoping she would quit, as he desired no further connection with her beyond the accident. Ling Xunxun countered by reminding him of the substantial debt she owed him, insisting that this financial obligation was indeed a connection. Their conversation was interrupted by the furious arrival of Cheng Li’s mother, who was upset about missed calls.

Observing the tense mother-son dynamic, Ling Xunxun cleverly intervened, reminding Cheng Li of an important business dinner he was about to miss. Impressed by her quick thinking, Cheng Li, in front of his mother, declared that Ling Xunxun had just been officially hired as his personal assistant, explaining it as a test she had passed with flying colors. Ling Xunxun was ecstatic, while Cheng Li’s mother remained skeptical.

Cheng Li then insisted they leave for the dinner and told Ling Xunxun to drive him home. Zhou Quan vehemently opposed Ling Xunxun taking the personal assistant role, arguing that moving into Cheng Li’s house to manage his domestic life was akin to becoming a maid, and posed safety concerns for a single woman living with a man.

Ling Xunxun countered by showing Zhou Quan Cheng Li’s business card, revealing that he was the 23-year-old heir of the powerful Meicheng Group, a cosmetics giant. She confidently dismissed Zhou Quan’s worries about romantic complications, remarking that Cheng Li, who looked like a star and was surrounded by many beautiful people, surely wouldn't be interested in her, given her current "outdated" appearance. Ling Xunxun explained that despite Zhou Quan's concerns, she couldn't rely on her forever.

Given the difficulty of finding a job and Cheng Li's good pay, she saw this as her best opportunity to regain independence and eventually bring Dudu home. Zhou Quan reluctantly agreed, making Ling Xunxun promise to leave if she ever felt wronged. As Cheng Li’s official private assistant, Ling Xunxun moved into his spacious, yet empty, home. Assistant Wang meticulously briefed her on Cheng Li’s extensive and peculiar daily habits and preferences.

Cheng Li had a severe aversion to germs and disliked people being close to him, often requiring Ling Xunxun to maintain an "invisible" presence. His room needed daily disinfection, but the scent had to be masked with a rose oil spray. No personal items or even plants were allowed on his tables. For breakfast, he required skimmed milk imported from New Zealand.

His clothing had strict care instructions: all coats dry-cleaned, and underwear washed in a specialized machine with specific unscented detergents. Ling Xunxun was advised to never appear unless called, never walk ahead of him, and ensure all lights in the house remained on at night, as Cheng Li preferred constant brightness, necessitating regular checks of the backup power. Despite Cheng Li's efforts to keep Ling Xunxun at a distance, she unexpectedly impressed him.

One morning, she prepared his coffee, which, to his surprise, perfectly matched his taste. Both Assistant Wang and Bao Xiaojing were astonished, as Ling Xunxun was the first new assistant not to be scolded or dismissed for making Cheng Li’s coffee incorrectly. However, Cheng Li continued to find fault, admitting to Assistant Wang that he didn't like Ling Xunxun because she wasn't "attractive," and he was looking for an excuse to dismiss her.

Yet, he couldn't deny her competence, as she consistently performed all her tasks well, leaving him with no valid reason to fire her. To solidify her role and manage his expectations, Cheng Li had Assistant Wang present Ling Xunxun with a comprehensive commitment contract. This contract stipulated that she would be on call 24/7, effectively eliminating her personal time. After a moment of heartfelt reflection, prioritizing her goal of reuniting with Dudu, Ling Xunxun signed the agreement.

During Cheng Li's daily two-hour "no disturbance" break at noon, Ling Xunxun would often meet Zhou Quan for lunch. One day, during their meal, Assistant Wang urgently messaged Ling Xunxun on her phone, informing her that Cheng Li was hosting a party at his residence that evening and she needed to return immediately to prepare. At the party, Ling Xunxun encountered Mike, the company’s R&D director and a flamboyant figure in the fashion industry.

Mike, dissatisfied with the general appearance of the staff, pointedly suggested that the party resembled a "village woman cosplay" and demanded that Ling Xunxun change into a maid outfit. Assistant Wang explained that Mike had made a bet with Cheng Li, and if Ling Xunxun refused, Cheng Li would lose face. Humiliated, Ling Xunxun angrily began to pack her belongings, ready to quit.

However, a series of heartfelt voice messages from Dudu, expressing how much he missed her and longed for her to pick him up, softened her resolve. Realizing she would do anything to bring her son home, Ling Xunxun put on the maid outfit. Cheng Li and Assistant Wang were visibly stunned when she appeared. As Cheng Li quietly questioned her self-respect, Ling Xunxun defiantly retorted, "Don't you have a bottom line? I will accompany you till the end!"

After the party, Ling Xunxun was left alone to clean up the extensive mess. As she worked, she shed tears, feeling like a clown in a ridiculous play. She cursed Cheng Li, calling him a "bastard." The next morning, a heavy rain began, and Cheng Li's car broke down on the way to an important meeting. He told Ling Xunxun he cannot be late.

Ling Xunxun quickly called a taxi for him and, without hesitation, handed him her only umbrella before he left. Later, during his meeting, Cheng Li became distracted and asked Assistant Wang about Ling Xunxun's whereabouts. He was informed that she had taken the car for repairs and then gone to the hospital. Cheng Li rushed to the hospital, where he was immediately confronted by a furious Zhou Quan.

Zhou Quan berated him for Ling Xunxun's condition, revealing the immense effort Ling Xunxun had put into her work. She explained that Ling Xunxun had sought out Cheng Li's former housekeeper to meticulously learn his bizarre habits, and, having been out of the workforce for seven years, spent sleepless nights learning office equipment from Zhou Quan after Cheng Li had gone to bed. Zhou Quan accused Cheng Li of humiliating and torturing Ling Xunxun.

Cheng Li apologized for her illness and promised to cover all medical expenses and grant her a week's leave, stating that he had not humiliated her and that her performance justified her salary. He then showed Zhou Quan a video of Ling Xunxun in the maid outfit from the party, asserting that Zhou Quan didn't truly know her friend. Zhou Quan was mortified by the video and, upon returning to Ling Xunxun's room, resumed scolding her for her actions.

Episode 2 Recap

Feeling a surge of goodwill towards Cheng Li for giving her a week off, Ling Xunxun returned to work meticulously prepared. Cheng Li, however, immediately challenged her, demanding she secure the Inglemirepharm agency rights within a week or face termination. Seizing the opportunity, Ling Xunxun countered by requesting a salary increase and improved living arrangements. Cheng Li initially resisted, suggesting he hire a separate housekeeper and have Ling Xunxun merely supervise them daily.

Ling Xunxun shrewdly pointed out Cheng Li's aversion to strangers and his need for a 24/7 personal assistant, a role she could fulfill completely. Impressed by her bold yet logical arguments, Cheng Li conceded to her demands, not only raising her salary but also allowing her to move from the storage room into a more comfortable suite with a window. Later, over milk tea, Bao Xiaojing elucidated the complex situation surrounding the Inglemirepharm project.

She explained that Yumeiling, their company, was an aging cosmetic brand on the brink of collapse. Director Lin had been hired specifically for her extensive network, with the primary goal of securing the Inglemirepharm deal. However, a sudden management change at Inglemirepharm had complicated matters, leaving Director Lin struggling to leverage her connections. Bao Xiaojing surmised that Cheng Li’s assignment of the project to Ling Xunxun was a strategic move to pressure Director Lin.

She warned Ling Xunxun that this could either be a tactic to make her resign out of frustration or to get Director Lin to push her out, indicating her position was far from secure. Bao Xiaojing then offered a crucial lead: Inglemirepharm’s new brand director was named Eric. Ling Xunxun promptly went to Inglemirepharm’s office to meet Eric, but she was denied entry without an appointment.

Though tempted to call her close friend Zhou Quan for assistance, Ling Xunxun decided she couldn't depend on her perpetually. Instead, she devised a plan: she ordered takeout for Eric, specifically requesting that he personally pick it up. Unbeknownst to Ling Xunxun, at the same time, Cheng Li was leisurely playing a video game with Mike, discussing Ling Xunxun's new assignment.

Cheng Li remarked to Mike that Ling Xunxun was "cannon fodder," implying she had to prove herself to become a "comrade." Ling Xunxun patiently waited for Eric to leave the office building. When someone she believed to be Eric emerged, she approached him, introduced herself as Cheng Li's assistant, and requested ten minutes of his time. The man, who told her to get into his car, made inappropriate advances once inside.

Ling Xunxun quickly realized her mistake and demanded to be let out. She confronted him, learning that he was not Eric, but Peter, Eric's assistant. Ling Xunxun, quick on her feet, pretended to have recorded their conversation and threatened to expose him if he didn't arrange a meeting with Eric. Peter, cornered, reluctantly agreed to introduce her to Eric at Inglemirepharm's store the next morning.

Just as she was reeling from the encounter, Ling Xunxun received a message from Cheng Li, indicating he was leaving work soon, prompting her to rush to pick him up. On the drive home, Ling Xunxun vaguely informed Cheng Li that she had successfully made an appointment to meet Eric the following day, carefully omitting the day's dramatic events. The next morning, Cheng Li informed Ling Xunxun he was tired of porridge for breakfast.

Ling Xunxun went out to find breakfast options and was mistaken by the clubhouse staff for Cheng Li’s girlfriend. The staff, thinking she was preparing a special meal for him, offered to deliver "breakfast full of love" to them daily at 7:30 AM, which Ling Xunxun gratefully accepted. Later, Ling Xunxun arrived at the appointed Inglemirepharm store, pretending to browse products. Peter appeared with Eric, subtly signaling Ling Xunxun before excusing himself.

Ling Xunxun approached Eric, who surprisingly already knew her. He revealed he was a friend of Zhou Quan and handed her his business card, revealing his Chinese name: Hui Yiwang. Ling Xunxun realized she finally met the person she had often heard about through Zhou Quan. Hui Yiwang readily agreed to give Yumeiling a chance to submit a new proposal.

He explained that their previous proposal had been excluded not due to its content, but because Director Lin was too closely associated with his former executive, who had resigned due to financial issues. He suggested Yumeiling put a different contact person in charge, explicitly stating that either Cheng Li or Ling Xunxun would be suitable. Overjoyed, Ling Xunxun immediately reported the good news to Cheng Li.

Though outwardly composed, Cheng Li was clearly pleased, instructing her to prepare a new proposal report. Later, in a private conversation, Cheng Li dissuaded Director Lin from resigning, reminding her of the high salary she received. He acknowledged that Ling Xunxun had "stolen her chance" but revealed his strategy: Ling Xunxun was merely a "pawn" in his game, to be "used well" by Director Lin.

While working on the new proposal, Cheng Li surprisingly suggested incorporating resources from his mother's company, a connection he usually avoided. Ling Xunxun, noting his shift, questioned him. Cheng Li casually responded that "this is a business, it's not a time to fight my mom," adding that his mother should feel "privileged" to be used by him from time to time.

During late-night overtime, Ling Xunxun, trying to save electricity, turned off some lights, irritating Cheng Li who revealed his fear of the dark. When Ling Xunxun asked to meet a friend after dropping him home, Cheng Li correctly guessed Zhou Quan and remarked on her "unfeminine" demeanor. Ling Xunxun playfully retorted, calling him a "cold and stone-hearted man" despite his "sunny and young boy" face.

Later, Ling Xunxun met with Zhou Quan, who questioned why she hadn't simply called her to resolve the Inglemirepharm issue, especially since Hui Yiwang was her friend. Ling Xunxun explained that while Cheng Li encouraged using personal connections, she wanted to prove her independence. She revealed her deep-seated desire to thrive in the workplace after years away, seeking the sense of achievement she had lost. She stated she couldn't rely on Zhou Quan for everything, especially as a mother.

She admitted she hadn't yet told her own mother about her divorce. After the successful meeting with Inglemirepharm, Ling Xunxun connected with Peter on WeChat. She then sent him a message, clarifying that she never had a recording of their previous encounter and advised him to "behave well in the future." Meanwhile, Hui Yiwang discussed Cheng Li with Peter, expressing his observation that Cheng Li was unlike other privileged second-generations, finding him to be quite capable and "interesting."

With the Inglemirepharm agency looking highly promising, Cheng Li celebrated by treating his team to a karaoke session. Noticing Ling Xunxun was not present, he went outside to look for her. He found her being harassed by two drunk men. Cheng Li immediately intervened, forcefully fending off the assailants. Afterward, in the car, Ling Xunxun gently disinfected and bandaged a cut on Cheng Li's hand. The close physical contact and the shared moment created a palpable shift in their dynamic.

Subsequently, Yumeiling successfully acquired the Inglemirepharm agency rights. Cheng Li then discreetly met with Zhou Quan, revealing that he had recognized her from a past business forum where she spoke as a guest. He admitted to conducting background research on her, discovering her status as a renowned lawyer and her decade-long friendship with Hui Yiwang, as well as her previous role as legal counsel for Hui Yiwang's company.

Cheng Li acknowledged that he had intentionally used Ling Xunxun to leverage Zhou Quan's connection to Hui Yiwang, calling it a "risky" but ultimately successful maneuver. Zhou Quan, impressed by his calculated move, then listened as Cheng Li proposed a professional collaboration: he offered Zhou Quan's team a five-year legal advisory contract with his company, promising to introduce them to his headquarters within six months, once their current headquarters' contract expired. Zhou Quan agreed to the deal, signaling a new partnership.

Episode 3 Recap

Cheng Li took Ling Xunxun to try on clothes, telling her she was two minutes and 26 seconds late. After Ling Xunxun finished, he instructed the staff to send all the clothes to his company as her reward for securing the agency rights. Ling Xunxun, however, suggested exchanging them for cash, but Cheng Li refused, stating that his personal assistant could not be dressed like a middle-aged aunt. Later, Cheng Li drove Ling Xunxun to the hospital.

Both of them were there to visit Uncle Wen, Cheng Li's former house manager. Uncle Wen expressed his fondness for Ling Xunxun, remarking that she was a good and kind girl who still came to see him. Cheng Li appeared displeased by their familiarity. Ling Xunxun tried to explain that she felt Uncle Wen was like family to Cheng Li, but Cheng Li dismissed her, reminding her that she was his assistant, not his friend, and should show some respect.

On the way to the factory, they bickered further about their ages. Upon arriving at the factory, Cheng Li instructed Ling Xunxun to wait in the car while he went inside. Ling Xunxun waited for a long time before calling him, only to find the factory had experienced a power outage. Cheng Li, who suffers from nyctophobia due to a childhood incident, was paralyzed by fear.

He called Ling Xunxun for help, and she rushed to his aid, carefully guiding his trembling form out of the building. Afterwards, a staff member apologized, explaining that he had turned off the power thinking the factory was empty. Ling Xunxun apologized for not knowing about his phobia, but Cheng Li, clearly still affected, told her to shut up. Ling Xunxun later confided in Zhou Quan, expressing her worries about Cheng Li and Mike's recent secretive behavior.

She was concerned that after putting so much effort into securing Inglemirepharm's agency rights, Cheng Li was now spending all his time at a factory on the verge of bankruptcy. Zhou Quan advised her not to overthink things, assuring her that Hui Yiwang would not be swayed by personal feelings in business decisions and that Cheng Li had his own reasons for his actions. Zhou Quan encouraged Ling Xunxun to simply focus on her own job as an assistant.

Mike approached Cheng Li, warning him that Ling Xunxun was manipulative, claiming she had flirted with Cheng Li at a party and was now doing the same with Hui Yiwang at the company. Cheng Li, however, remained unconcerned, remarking that it was fine to have Ling Xunxun as a free publicist for the company. Despite his outward nonchalance, the thought of Ling Xunxun caused him to lose interest in his game, prompting him to abruptly leave.

Cheng Li then tried to invite Hui Yiwang to dinner, but Hui Yiwang stated he already had an appointment with Ling Xunxun and asked if he could "borrow" her for the evening. Ling Xunxun initially refused, citing her duty to send Cheng Li home, but Cheng Li surprisingly agreed. Hui Yiwang then took Ling Xunxun to dinner at a restaurant she recognized as the place where her ex-husband proposed and where they celebrated their anniversaries.

The familiar music made her visibly uncomfortable, and Hui Yiwang offered to change restaurants. Ling Xunxun, however, decided to stay, believing it was fate and a chance to face her past to move forward. Meanwhile, Cheng Li arrived at the same restaurant with Jin Hui, a famous host and his childhood friend. From an upstairs private room, Cheng Li observed Ling Xunxun’s sad expression, feeling a sense of satisfaction. After dinner, the four coincidentally met at the restaurant entrance.

After brief introductions, Jin Hui departed. Hui Yiwang insisted on taking Ling Xunxun home, overriding her offer to send Cheng Li back, and led her away, leaving Cheng Li to return home alone. On the drive home, Hui Yiwang clarified that he hadn't intended to make things difficult for Ling Xunxun but rather for Cheng Li, who had casually offered Ling Xunxun for "free publicity" while dining with a female celebrity himself. Ling Xunxun felt a pang of self-reproach.

Later, Jin Hui called Cheng Li, noting that the evening felt like two men vying for a woman, making her feel like a third wheel. Hui Yiwang shared with Ling Xunxun how he met Zhou Quan on a rooftop when he was feeling down, and recounted Zhou Quan's intense and direct personality. He also mentioned that Zhou Quan spoke about Ling Xunxun with such affection that he once thought Zhou Quan was a lesbian.

Hui Yiwang encouraged Ling Xunxun to never forget her true self, reminding her that she was once the "school belle" and a "princess," and to remember the life she truly wanted to live. Upon returning home, Cheng Li, who had been waiting, made a sarcastic comment about Ling Xunxun returning exactly at midnight. He then quipped about people her age falling in love like "an old house on fire," quickly getting out of control.

He looked up the song Ling Xunxun was humming, noting it was from a 1987 Spring Festival gala and confirming their generational gap. Hui Yiwang later met with Zhou Quan, where it was revealed that the entire dinner had been Zhou Quan's idea. Her plan was to establish Ling Xunxun as having a "strong backup" at the company so no one would dare bully her.

Meanwhile, Cheng Li, watching a horror movie, called out to Ling Xunxun, insisting she stay in his line of sight because he was scared. Zhou Quan, separately, probed Hui Yiwang about his feelings for Ling Xunxun, attempting to play matchmaker, which made Hui Yiwang visibly uncomfortable.

Later, Cheng Li dozed off while watching the movie and woke to see Ling Xunxun, whose long hair was disheveled from exhaustion, startling him into thinking she was a ghost and sending him scurrying back to his room. The next day, Cheng Li’s mother arrived at the company with shareholders, pointedly asking Ling Xunxun why she was still there.

She then confronted Cheng Li, acknowledging his success in securing the Inglemirepharm agency but dismissing it as a "low-level trick" and criticizing his focus on the factory. She demanded he return to the headquarters to prepare to take over the Meicheng Group, arguing that the small cosmetics company was a waste of his effort.

Cheng Li countered, stating that the value of starting a company was not merely monetary, and that she had always measured his life in terms of money, never asking about his dreams or aspirations. His mother responded that as the sole heir, he bore the responsibility for thousands of people. She delivered an ultimatum, informing him she planned to sell the factory land to build a technology park, forcing him back to the headquarters.

Cheng Li reiterated his desire to protect people and things, but she countered that he needed to become stronger to have the right and ability to protect others. Later, Cheng Li, holding a drawing, asked Ling Xunxun if it was hers. Ling Xunxun was upset that he had entered her room without permission, emphasizing her right to privacy as a woman, despite their employer-employee relationship.

Cheng Li, unfazed, told her the house was his and he had the right to enter any space, adding that she could quit anytime. When Ling Xunxun demanded her drawing tools back, he told her he had thrown them into the attic. Ling Xunxun rushed to the attic to find it beautifully transformed into a new art studio, complete with easels. Cheng Li then brought her a package, which contained a hamster. Ling Xunxun happily took it, saying it was for "DuDu," a name that piqued Cheng Li's curiosity.

Episode 4 Recap

Picking up from the previous episode, Cheng Li noticed a package delivered for "DuDu" and questioned Ling Xunxun about it. Ling Xunxun stammered, vaguely claiming DuDu was a pet, which Cheng Li readily accepted, assuming it was a dog. He then apologized for having entered her room earlier, explaining that a small creature from the delivery (a hamster, as implied from previous context) had run into her room because her door was ajar.

Expressing his dislike for furry animals, he instructed her to remove the pet the next day. Ling Xunxun was surprised by his apology but also felt a bit uneasy about the situation. Still uneasy about concealing her secret, Ling Xunxun called Zhou Quan, admitting her lie was "getting bigger."

Zhou Quan, a lawyer, reassured her that having a son wouldn't significantly impact her job and that companies rarely sued over such matters, though she warned the worst-case scenario could be contract termination and dismissal. Ling Xunxun expressed discomfort with lying, but Zhou Quan advised her to stop overthinking and go to bed. Later, Cheng Li took Ling Xunxun to a boxing match.

He challenged her presence at the fight, asking if she was afraid of him being shamed, and reminded her of his earlier heroics. During the match, Wang Assistant decisively defeated Cheng Li. Cheng Li playfully complained that Wang Assistant hadn't "let him look good," but Wang Assistant calmly replied it was a competition. Ling Xunxun then subtly probed Cheng Li about loyalty, asking hypothetically about betrayal by someone close.

Cheng Li immediately suspected she was implying Wang Assistant was a spy sent by his mother. Ling Xunxun clarified she was merely thinking aloud after hearing rumors about Cheng Li's mother's surprising corporate visit and her seeming knowledge of company secrets. Cheng Li, however, revealed that this public embarrassment was a deliberate facade, part of a strategy.

Wang Assistant then approached them, stating he had visited Cheng Li's mother but had decided not to resign, offering to work for another year without pay. Cheng Li insisted he leave, claiming he now had Ling Xunxun, whom he described as "considerate and clever" and better than Wang Assistant, making him redundant. Ling Xunxun, misunderstanding the situation and fearing for her own job, frantically offered to take a pay cut.

Wang Assistant later confided in Ling Xunxun, revealing his past: five years prior, he had broken his leg boxing abroad and lost his job. Cheng Li had not only saved him but had also used a year's worth of his own living expenses, earned from part-time jobs, to fund Wang Assistant's university education. Ling Xunxun expressed a changed perception of Cheng Li upon hearing this, but Wang Assistant advised her to maintain her initial perception to avoid disappointment.

Cheng Li then returned, having overheard Ling Xunxun's offer, and questioned who suggested a salary cut, leading Ling Xunxun to realize she had been tricked by both men. Meanwhile, Cheng Li's mother pondered why he hadn't strongly opposed selling the factory land. She believed his company's recent acquisition of Inglemirepharm agency rights had boosted his confidence, finding it illogical that he would seemingly abandon his own confidence after signing such a contract.

At the factory, Mike was exuberantly live-streaming, showcasing Inglemirepharm cosmetics and praising their quality, emphasizing the importance of securing the agency rights. Cheng Li then called Ling Xunxun, asking her to retrieve a crucial document he had left in the factory meeting room, mentioning that Mike was likely still there. Ling Xunxun found Mike unwinding with skewers and drinks after his long live stream.

He confessed that in the live-streaming industry, a "straight man" was considered to have poor aesthetic sense, forcing him to pretend to be effeminate, which he found exhausting. Ling Xunxun empathized, admitting she also "pretended," recalling how she bravely divorced her ex-husband without compensation after his affair, only to feel trapped afterward.

Mike confessed he initially thought she had used a man for her job, but Ling Xunxun clarified she had no powerful connections, attributing her perceived influence to her best friend, who was a close friend of Hui Yiwang, and who had been worried about her being bullied. Mike admired Ling Xunxun's "charming personality" and sincerity. He told her that he liked a girl like her.

Ling Xunxun then confessed her desire to use her own abilities to support her son, whom she hadn't seen in over a month. When Mike questioned her about having a son, she quickly tried to cover it up, claiming her "son" was just a pet. Mike saw through her renewed pretense, urging her to drop the "fake mask" now that they had shared secrets.

He encouraged her to be authentic and promised to be there for her, whether she wanted to cry or vent. Ling Xunxun, encouraged, joined him in playfully insulting Cheng Li. That evening, Cheng Li called Ling Xunxun, but she and Mike, both in high spirits, ignored his calls. Frustrated, Cheng Li decided she could sleep outside. Later, Ling Xunxun, heavily intoxicated, repeatedly banged on his door.

Cheng Li initially ignored her, but the noise led to complaints from neighbors, prompting property management to intervene. Mistaking them for a quarreling couple, the security guard advised Cheng Li to treat his "wife" well, forcing a reluctant Cheng Li to carry a protesting Ling Xunxun back into the apartment. Once inside, Ling Xunxun continued her drunken antics, occupying Cheng Li's bed, declaring it "the queen's room," and comically demanding he serve her while he slept in the storage room.

The next morning, Ling Xunxun woke up in Cheng Li's room, realizing with horror the extent of her drunken behavior. She found Cheng Li asleep on the sofa, indicating she had indeed taken over his room. Mortified, she left apology notes for him and quickly departed, arranging for Wang Assistant to pick up Cheng Li for work.

When Wang Assistant arrived, Cheng Li was still fuming, recounting how Ling Xunxun, in her drunken state, had called him a "little boy," among other insults. Wang Assistant, however, advised Cheng Li against firing her, revealing he had enlisted for military service and would be resigning in about a month. He suggested that if Ling Xunxun left, Cheng Li would have no assistant, subtly implying that she should stay. Cheng Li sighed, realizing he was stuck with her.

Ling Xunxun, meanwhile, began preparing her resignation report, but Mike intervened, urging her not to act rashly. He told her not to resign on her own accord, believing it wouldn't be as bad as she thought. Separately, Wang Assistant confirmed to Ling Xunxun that he was indeed resigning in about a month to join the military.

He advised her that Cheng Li likely preferred her as his assistant, describing Cheng Li as an introvert who takes a long time to trust people, but had quickly trusted her enough to let her live in his home. Ling Xunxun, still mortified by her drunken antics, tried to explain her embarrassment, but Wang Assistant cut her off, refusing to hear the "inappropriate images." Ling Xunxun then sought forgiveness from Cheng Li in his office.

However, he told her he didn't want to "see her face," prompting her to put on a mask. It was revealed that Peter had been supplying Cheng Li's mother with information about the company's Inglemirepharm project, hoping to secure a position at her Chengdu subsidiary. However, Cheng Li's mother rejected Peter's request due to multiple complaints of sexual harassment from his female colleagues, asserting she couldn't hire someone with such a history for a superior role.

She paid him for the information but declined his employment. Cheng Li later sparred with Hui Yiwang. Hui Yiwang thanked Cheng Li for his patience in dealing with Peter, whom they both knew had a history of "gender issues." Cheng Li also mentioned he was aware of Peter's past harassment of Ling Xunxun, noting that she would eventually have to face such issues in her professional life.

Hui Yiwang also thanked Cheng Li for his strategy, which had bought him another year. Cheng Li explained his plan to Wang Assistant: to subtly "leak" details of his collaboration with Hui Yiwang to his mother, allowing her to "discover" the information herself. He reasoned that his intelligent mother would become suspicious if told directly, but would believe information she uncovered independently.

This elaborate plan was designed to make his company and himself appear important enough to his mother that she would hesitate to sell the old factory, giving him a year to protect it. Hui Yiwang acknowledged Cheng Li's unique relationship with his mother and predicted Cheng Li would surpass her as a businessman. Cheng Li, however, stated he preferred a normal life over being a businessman.

Hui Yiwang then candidly warned Cheng Li that while he didn't care about their family struggles, any internal conflict impacting the value of the Inglemirepharm brand would end their friendship, as he would prioritize his company's benefits. Cheng Li agreed they shared common interests and assured him of full resource support.

Zhou Quan, in trouble at the police station due to a dispute with her young boyfriend's mother, urgently texted Hui Yiwang for help rather than her legal colleagues, citing embarrassment. The mother had vandalized Zhou Quan's car, accusing her of "abducting" her college-graduate son. Hui Yiwang mediated the conflict, offering compensation for the car damage to resolve the situation.

Afterward, Hui Yiwang gravely told Zhou Quan that she should not involve him in such private matters in the future, stating there should be "privacy" and "space" between them, despite their close friendship, as he found such incidents too bothersome. He asserted that as a man and a woman, they should maintain more distance and less contact, leaving Zhou Quan bewildered by his sudden change in demeanor.

Zhou Quan later invited Ling Xunxun for drinks, but Ling Xunxun declined, fearing to upset Cheng Li further after her recent drunken escapade. For several days, Ling Xunxun appeared before Cheng Li wearing a mask. Behind the scenes, Mike, Wang Assistant, and Bao Xiaojing amused themselves by betting on how long it would take Cheng Li to get over his anger. Ling Xunxun confided in Zhou Quan about her predicament, suggesting they all have dinner with Hui Yiwang.

Zhou Quan, however, seemed evasive and abruptly left, claiming to have a meeting. Concerned, Ling Xunxun messaged Hui Yiwang, asking if something was wrong with Zhou Quan. Hui Yiwang's blunt reply advised Ling Xunxun to mind her own business and solve her own problems first. Ling Xunxun, perplexed by her friends' behavior, wondered if Mercury was in retrograde. Later, the apartment building experienced a power outage. Cheng Li, seemingly distressed, urgently called out for Ling Xunxun.

She rushed to his side and found him on the floor with a bleeding, cut hand, appearing very weak. Panicked, Ling Xunxun immediately suggested calling an ambulance or going to the hospital, but Cheng Li refused. He instructed her to retrieve a specific bottle from the medical kit and informed her that he expected to develop a fever in about half an hour, telling her to simply hydrate him and cool his temperature if that happened.

As Ling Xunxun gave him the medicine and worriedly checked on him, Cheng Li's consciousness drifted, and he saw a recurring image of a girl asking "Are you okay?" in an old, abandoned factory. Confused, he then asked Ling Xunxun, "Who are you?"

Episode 5 Recap

Ling Xunxun, who had stayed by Cheng Li's side all night, found him still recovering from a fever. She immediately checked his forehead, relieved to find his fever had broken. Ling Xunxun explained her detailed arrangements for his missed work, but Cheng Li found her reporting excessive. She then went to prepare a white rice porridge, ensuring it was cooled before bringing it to him.

As she carefully fed him spoonful by spoonful, Ling Xunxun remarked that it was how she fed her dog, DuDu, prompting Cheng Li to question if she was insulting him. Later, while Ling Xunxun was drawing the curtains, Cheng Li brought up a dream he had, asking about her middle school. They discovered they both attended City One Middle School, where Cheng Li had skipped two grades.

Ling Xunxun revealed she was a radio host there, but Cheng Li, ever sarcastic, teased her about being nostalgic and her lack of accomplishments at 29 despite her confidence. Their conversation was interrupted by Jin Hui, who knew the password to Cheng Li’s apartment. Jin Hui inquired about his condition, mentioning that his doctor, Jacob, was on a flight to see him for a checkup. Ling Xunxun, observing the interaction, was full of curiosity.

Soon after, media circulated photos of Jin Hui entering and leaving Cheng Li’s home, fueling rumors of them being a couple. Company employees openly gossiped about the "news" of Jin Hui spending the night at her boyfriend’s house. Cheng Li’s mother called, delighted by the "good news" and encouraging their relationship, mentioning that she and Jin Hui's aunt had been trying to set them up. Cheng Li flatly denied the rumors, expressing his usual disinterest in media speculation.

He then called Jin Hui, urging her to issue a denial statement, but she teasingly suggested they should actually move in together or even announce their marriage, stating that she wasn't worried about her image. Cheng Li insisted it was bad for her reputation, and Jin Hui eventually agreed to his request. Back at the apartment, Ling Xunxun offered Cheng Li porridge, but he craved meat.

He questioned her cooking ability, which she admitted was poor, prompting him to ask her to order takeout. She sarcastically suggested calling Jin Hui to cook for him, creating a "love haven," which Cheng Li dismissed as her trying to slack off. As Cheng Li awkwardly tried to eat with his injured left hand, Ling Xunxun tried to put an apron on him, accidentally knocking the food onto the floor.

Annoyed, Cheng Li told her to feed him the next day and asked her to visit his Uncle Wen, who was sick. At the hospital, Ling Xunxun learned from Uncle Wen that Cheng Li’s condition was Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) from childhood trauma, causing a fear of dark and confined spaces.

Uncle Wen, who had cared for Cheng Li for a year, explained that while they thought he was recovering with monthly doctor visits, the symptoms had recently returned after a blackout. Ling Xunxun received a call from Hui Yiwang, inviting her for lunch, which Ling Xunxun arranged to be with Zhou Quan as well. Zhou Quan and Hui Yiwang were awkward, so Ling Xunxun subtly slipped away after ordering and paying to give them privacy.

Hui Yiwang apologized for his previous judgment regarding Zhou Quan’s "boyfriend," explaining he had learned from an aunt at the hospital that the young man was a cancer patient secretly undergoing chemotherapy, and Zhou Quan had been selflessly helping him find doctors and beds. However, Zhou Quan refused to accept his apology, questioning his right to judge her actions given their relationship.

Later, Jin Hui released a statement denying her romantic involvement with Cheng Li, clarifying they were just childhood friends. Cheng Li’s mother immediately rushed to his house. Outside, Zhou Quan told Ling Xunxun she was "cutting ties" for a week, frustrated by Ling Xunxun's meddling. When Cheng Li’s mother arrived, she confronted Cheng Li about the quick denial of the Jin Hui rumors, suggesting it was because of Ling Xunxun. Cheng Li asked Ling Xunxun to leave.

His mother warned him against women like Ling Xunxun, whom she considered manipulative, urging him to be wary. Cheng Li defended Ling Xunxun, explaining he hired her due to a "sense of familiarity" she cultivated by researching his habits with Uncle Wen before her interview. Cheng Li, tired of the constant "business talks" with his mother, retreated to his room. His mother, sensing Ling Xunxun’s "scheming" nature, instructed someone to investigate her.

Ling Xunxun felt responsible for the friction, believing her presence affected Cheng Li and Jin Hui’s relationship. Cheng Li, however, scoffed at the idea of Jin Hui being jealous, then playfully accused Ling Xunxun of being scheming, based on her past admission of strategically confronting his mother during their first meeting to gain his attention. The next morning, Bao Xiaojing received a delivery and applied makeup following Mike’s tutorial.

Cheng Li, with his injured hand, called Ling Xunxun to help him with his tie. The moment was briefly awkward until Ling Xunxun broke the tension by presenting his coat and teasing him about paying "handsome-man taxes" for his looks. Cheng Li returned to work, his hand still wrapped in Ling Xunxun’s unexpectedly cute bandage. Meanwhile, Cheng Li’s mother received Ling Xunxun’s investigation report and was surprised by what she found.

During lunch, Ling Xunxun ordered roasted eel and rice for Cheng Li, easier for him to eat with his injured hand. When he still struggled, she fed him bite by bite. Hui Yiwang arrived, witnessing the scene, and suggested they all have lunch together. They went to a hot pot restaurant, where Hui Yiwang deliberately kept serving Ling Xunxun food, clearly annoying Cheng Li, who abruptly declared his intention to go home early, citing the smell.

Unbeknownst to them, Cheng Li’s mother’s car was parked nearby, observing them from a distance. Later, Ling Xunxun observed Cheng Li and Mike having a loud argument at the office. Mike later explained to a curious Ling Xunxun that it was an act orchestrated for Cheng Li’s mother, as Mike was one of "Elder President Cheng’s people," implying a complex history of surveillance within the company.

At the factory, Cheng Li instructed Ling Xunxun to walk around but not disturb the workers, making her feel trusted. Ling Xunxun then met with a gallery agent, whom Hui Yiwang had arranged to represent her artwork, acknowledging that her drawings resembled industrial design. Ling Xunxun confronted Hui Yiwang about his obvious feelings for Zhou Quan, perplexed by his roundabout way of helping her instead of confessing to Zhou Quan directly.

Later, Ling Xunxun discovered one of her paintings, which she had submitted for packaging design through the gallery, had been rejected by Cheng Li himself. This rejection deeply disheartened her, making her feel her talent was worthless in his eyes. She mused on the harsh reality of growing up and accepting one's mediocrity while still needing to find a reason to persevere.

Episode 6 Recap

In a tense car ride, Cheng Li noticed Ling Xunxun's unusual silence. He directly told her that he knew she was the artist behind a particular painting. He clarified that he didn't dislike her work; rather, he chose to eliminate it specifically because she had painted it, emphasizing his need for fairness in the selection process.

Ling Xunxun, disheartened, observed the painting that had been chosen, a creation by a professional artist with over ten years of experience and a graduate of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. The artist even recognized Ling Xunxun's name. Cheng Li then instructed Ling Xunxun to drive him to the factory for a meeting. During the meeting, Cheng Li announced the successful development of Yumeiling's new cosmetics line, set to launch simultaneously with Inglemirepharm's.

He also suggested rebranding Yumeiling due to its old-fashioned name and differing market positioning. Ling Xunxun privately confronted Cheng Li, accusing him of leveraging Inglemirepharm's popularity, which she felt was a betrayal of Hui Yiwang, especially since she had introduced him to the project. Cheng Li admitted his intention was to use Inglemirepharm to benefit his own brand from the very beginning.

Ling Xunxun, disillusioned, accused him of using people as "chess pieces" and expressed her disappointment in him as a businessman and boss. Cheng Li, unfazed, reiterated that he would accept her resignation at any time. Later, Ling Xunxun confided in Zhou Quan, unable to disclose the specifics of her conflict due to company business, yet clearly upset.

Zhou Quan advised her that both Hui Yiwang and Cheng Li possessed far superior business acumen, suggesting that Ling Xunxun's worries were likely insignificant to them. Meanwhile, Cheng Li, visibly irritated, vented his frustration on the basketball court. The next day, Ling Xunxun formally submitted her resignation. Cheng Li accepted it but sharply criticized her tendency to escape problems, comparing it to her divorce. Ling Xunxun retorted that he had no right to judge her personal life.

As she prepared to leave, her colleague Bao Xiaojing tried to dissuade her, but Ling Xunxun insisted on her decision, stating she didn't want to harm either Cheng Li or Hui Yiwang. Ling Xunxun also received calls from Mike and Assistant Wang, but she didn't answer them, instead recording messages thanking Assistant Wang and informing Mike of her resignation.

Unbeknownst to Ling Xunxun, Cheng Li's mother, having learned of her resignation, instructed someone to discreetly arrange another job for her with a higher salary. Hui Yiwang received a call from a bar about a heavily intoxicated Zhou Quan and rushed to her side. He took her home to Ling Xunxun, who discovered Zhou Quan's drunkenness was just a pretense to test Hui Yiwang's feelings. Later, Zhou Quan invited Hui Yiwang over, intending to confess her feelings.

However, Hui Yiwang spoke first, admitting he liked her. They both acknowledged their deep-seated fear of ruining their long-standing friendship if they pursued a romantic relationship. Concluding that they were too insecure to risk it, they agreed to remain best friends forever, believing it to be the best outcome for them. Separately, Ling Xunxun discovered that her painting, which she thought had been legitimately purchased, was actually bought by the professional painter Cheng Li had chosen.

The painter explained that Cheng Li admired Ling Xunxun's grasp of product requirements but found her painting immature in execution. He had bought it to provide it as a reference, tasking the professional artist to refine it for the packaging design. Ling Xunxun deduced that Cheng Li had purchased her painting himself, feeling a mix of surprise and the weight of Cheng Li's hidden intentions.

Hui Yiwang, waking up on Zhou Quan's sofa the next morning to the smell of congee prepared by Ling Xunxun, questioned her about her resignation, having heard it was due to him. Ling Xunxun, bound by a non-disclosure agreement, couldn't explain. Hui Yiwang then called Cheng Li, demanding to know why he let Ling Xunxun go. Cheng Li, aware Ling Xunxun was nearby, gave her permission to tell Hui Yiwang everything.

Ling Xunxun revealed her previous belief that she was the reason Yumeiling secured the agency rights and her distress over Cheng Li using it as a cover for his own brand. Hui Yiwang clarified that Cheng Li's company was always a strong candidate for them to reduce packaging costs, and her involvement was coincidental. He also admitted that Cheng Li had mentioned his marketing strategy to him earlier.

Ling Xunxun then realized she had "worried for no reason" and had overthought the entire situation, feeling foolish. Hui Yiwang advised her to thank Cheng Li for the valuable business lesson, explaining that Cheng Li had gone to great lengths to teach her. After Hui Yiwang left, Ling Xunxun received a call offering her a new job with the salary she requested, with a start date the following week. She found herself conflicted.

She called Assistant Wang to inquire if Cheng Li was home, hoping to pack her belongings when he was absent. Assistant Wang, with a subtle hint for Cheng Li to return home early, quickly left. Ling Xunxun encountered Cheng Li in his art studio as she was packing. Cheng Li told her to clear out all her belongings thoroughly so she wouldn't have an excuse to return.

He then explained that her painting, while showing an understanding of product needs gained from internal information, was essentially "cheating internally" compared to the genuinely talented and hardworking competitors. He questioned how she could challenge professionals with a mere hobby. Ling Xunxun was deeply affected by his candid remarks, realizing her tendency to blame others or escape from problems. Feeling a surge of clarity, she rushed back to Cheng Li, asking for another chance.

However, Cheng Li denied her request, stating that true opportunities are not "begged for" and that she had already had many chances. Ling Xunxun then declined the new job offer. Ling Xunxun later complained to Zhou Quan about both Hui Yiwang and herself being too cowardly in relationships. Shortly after, Hui Yiwang celebrated with friends, posting a group photo that infuriated Zhou Quan, who felt he should be regretting his decision.

Meanwhile, Cheng Li began interviewing new assistants, but none seemed to meet his expectations; one highly qualified candidate proficient in multiple languages and with various skills failed to impress him. Ling Xunxun, now working as a receptionist at a law firm, found the job easy and efficient but lacked the stimulating challenges she experienced with Cheng Li. She wondered how Cheng Li was faring, assuming his "bad habits" would make it difficult for him to find an assistant.

Cheng Li, struggling to find a suitable assistant and missing her presence, repeatedly called Ling Xunxun, urging her to return, claiming "something happened here." He complained to Assistant Wang about the new housekeepers, and his home no longer felt the same without her.

Episode 7 Recap

Ling Xunxun was in the shower and missed several calls from Cheng Li. Once she realized, she panicked and was about to rush out, but Zhou Quan reminded her that she had already resigned and was no longer Cheng Li’s assistant, so she didn't need to be so anxious. Ling Xunxun, emboldened, called Cheng Li back. He was annoyed she hadn't answered, but Ling Xunxun calmly informed him that she was no longer his employee and wasn't available 24/7.

Cheng Li then explained that his TV screen projection was broken and he needed her to fix it that night. Zhou Quan urged Ling Xunxun to refuse. Ling Xunxun told Cheng Li it was too late and she would fix it the next day since it was the weekend. She hung up, feeling incredibly happy and liberated, a feeling she had never experienced before. Despite her newfound freedom, Ling Xunxun was too nervous to sleep that night.

Early the next morning, she went to Cheng Li's house to fix his TV. Zhou Quan, upon learning this, was exasperated, jokingly asking if Ling Xunxun had cleaned his house and made him breakfast too. To her astonishment, Ling Xunxun admitted she actually had made breakfast. Zhou Quan was frustrated, feeling Ling Xunxun deserved to be "abused" by Cheng Li, while Ling Xunxun playfully suggested Zhou Quan should be Cheng Li's assistant.

Cheng Li, waking up, enjoyed his breakfast, pleased that Ling Xunxun had been there. Meanwhile, Cheng Li's mother, Elder President Cheng, visited him, questioning why he had invested heavily in new product development for a factory she intended to sell. Cheng Li, unfazed, explained that he had learned his assertive tactics from her.

He argued that since the money had been spent and the results were good, it would be a waste not to continue, implying she would then have to fully support him. His mother, recognizing his strategic play and acknowledging his newfound shrewdness, reluctantly agreed to continue the project. She also mentioned that Ling Xunxun had not taken the job she had secretly arranged for her, adding that she was quite pleased Cheng Li had fired Ling Xunxun.

After his mother left, Cheng Li instructed Assistant Wang to find out where Ling Xunxun was working. He secretly observed Ling Xunxun at her new job, claiming he was happy to see her looking unhappy. However, Assistant Wang pointed out that Ling Xunxun seemed relaxed and valued, doing tasks that, while trivial, appeared fulfilling for her. Assistant Wang also revealed he had anticipated Cheng Li's curiosity and had already found Ling Xunxun's new workplace.

Zhou Quan invited Ling Xunxun to President Jin's party, hoping to find a wealthy husband there. Ling Xunxun, who disliked parties due to past awkward experiences with her ex-husband, was reluctant. Zhou Quan insisted, suggesting they use Cheng Li's stylist for their outfits. Ling Xunxun eventually gave in and called Assistant Wang, asking for the stylist's contact information. Assistant Wang, aware that President Jin had also invited Cheng Li, subtly informed Cheng Li that Ling Xunxun would be attending.

Initially, Cheng Li planned to decline, finding such events boring, but upon hearing Ling Xunxun would be there, he changed his mind. Jin Hui, who was hosting the party, also called Cheng Li, threatening to cut ties with him if he didn't show up, which further solidified his decision to attend. At the party, Cheng Li arrived with Jin Hui, who was also the hostess.

Ling Xunxun and Zhou Quan made a striking entrance in champagne-colored gowns, captivating Cheng Li's attention. Zhou Quan spotted Hui Yiwang with his female assistant, Anna, and was visibly annoyed, but Ling Xunxun cautioned her against causing a scene. As Zhou Quan moved to chat with another friend, Ling Xunxun saw her ex-husband, Shi Shaozu, approaching with his new girlfriend.

Just as the encounter grew awkward, Cheng Li dramatically intervened, claiming Ling Xunxun was his "older sister," an "unlawful child" of his mother, and was attempting to inherit part of his family's company. Ling Xunxun was mortified, wondering if he was helping or making it worse, but Cheng Li insisted he was supporting her by making her appear wealthy and powerful.

Shi Shaozu, who had grown up with Ling Xunxun and knew her well, didn't believe Cheng Li's bizarre story, but didn't press the issue, sensing Cheng Li's protective intent. Zhou Quan and Hui Yiwang found Cheng Li's exaggerated act quite amusing. Later, Cheng Li was on the balcony when Ling Xunxun approached him. Cheng Li, claiming boredom despite Jin Hui "shining like a star," openly declared to Ling Xunxun, "I don't have a girlfriend.

And Jin Hui is not my girlfriend." This revelation left Ling Xunxun momentarily speechless and blushing. As the party wound down, Cheng Li saw Ling Xunxun alone and texted her, claiming his backup generator was broken and asking her to come check it. He then abruptly left Jin Hui, promising Assistant Wang would pick her up and she could have any handbag she wanted.

Jin Hui was furious, feeling abandoned and comparing herself to a "precious toy" that had been stolen, threatening to end their long-standing friendship. Cheng Li rushed home. Upon Ling Xunxun's arrival, she found nothing wrong with the backup generator, and Cheng Li invited her for a drink. During their conversation, Ling Xunxun learned that the job offer she had received for a community services app R&D role had been arranged by Elder President Cheng.

Ling Xunxun was surprised, questioning if she was "that important" to warrant such a scheme. Cheng Li explained that his mother had wanted to tempt her to betray him, but then added that to those who cared about her, she was far more important than she realized. Ling Xunxun then mustered the courage to ask about Cheng Li's mysterious illness.

He revealed that he had an incident before going abroad, after which he fell ill, but he couldn't remember anything about it as no one had ever told him, perhaps to avoid upsetting him. Cheng Li then asked Ling Xunxun to help him investigate his past as "Xunxun Holmes," hoping she could uncover memories from their middle school days.

He then asked her to return to work, stating he trusted her implicitly because she had never lied to him, unlike others he would fire immediately for deception. Ling Xunxun, emboldened and slightly tipsy, playfully demanded triple her previous salary. Taking advantage of her inebriated state, Cheng Li had Ling Xunxun sign a new employment contract. The next morning, Ling Xunxun woke up to find Cheng Li had drawn on her face.

To her horror, she discovered the signed contract, which not only confirmed her return but also stipulated a 20% salary cut, not a triple raise. She angrily called him a liar. Ling Xunxun decided to return to the company, much to Cheng Li's delight and the team's welcome. Zhou Quan, however, was concerned. She observed that Cheng Li's feelings for Ling Xunxun were clearly more than just a boss-employee relationship.

She worried that Cheng Li might be "playing around," fearing Ling Xunxun would face another emotional blow. Zhou Quan advised Ling Xunxun to be independent if she genuinely liked Cheng Li, or to negotiate better terms if it was just a job, warning her against lowering her self-worth. Ling Xunxun, in denial, claimed she didn't and couldn't like him due to her current circumstances, feeling she had no right to love at her age.

Zhou Quan countered that while Ling Xunxun might control her own heart, she couldn't control Cheng Li's. Ling Xunxun resolved to be like an "iceberg" to protect herself. Later, Hui Yiwang invited Ling Xunxun for drinks, citing a bad day. Cheng Li immediately interjected, stating his female employees were not obligated to socialize after work. Ling Xunxun, sensing Hui Yiwang's distress might be related to Zhou Quan, persuaded Cheng Li to let her go. However, Cheng Li secretly followed them.

The three ended up at the same bar, making for an incredibly awkward evening for Ling Xunxun, who texted Zhou Quan, crying for help. Zhou Quan, however, found the situation amusing, declining to intervene. Hui Yiwang then invited Ling Xunxun for a private drink and offered to take her home, but Cheng Li abruptly stated he didn't like acquaintances coming to his house.

Cheng Li then forced Ling Xunxun into his car, threatening to terminate his contract with Hui Yiwang if he continued to pursue her. Ling Xunxun was surprised by his casual attitude towards breaking contracts, to which Cheng Li replied he was protecting his female employees from harassment, revealing he had previously fired Peter for similar reasons. Ling Xunxun was moved, realizing Cheng Li had known about Peter's harassment and had protected her.

As the car moved, Cheng Li's hand accidentally brushed Ling Xunxun's, and she involuntarily grasped it, feeling a warmth that made her imagine he might kiss her. However, she quickly pulled back, remembering Zhou Quan's warning about the "chocolate lava cake," a metaphor for a tempting but potentially dangerous love.

Episode 8 Recap

Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li spent a restless night, and the next morning, an accidental touch made the atmosphere between them awkward once more. Ling Xunxun became so flustered she struggled to walk properly. Seeking to escape the tension, she became flustered and fled. The next day marked Assistant Wang's official last day. He tried to invite his colleagues out for dinner, but everyone quickly left the office.

He then sought out Ling Xunxun, only to find she already had plans. Ling Xunxun, however, told him Cheng Li wanted him to deliver two bottles of red wine to a specific address. Assistant Wang rushed over, expecting to find Cheng Li alone, but instead discovered Ling Xunxun and other colleagues had gathered for a surprise farewell party for him, with Jin Hui also in attendance.

As Ling Xunxun watched Cheng Li, Jin Hui, and Assistant Wang singing together, a sudden wave of sadness washed over her, feeling as though her youth was slipping away. Later, a very drunk Assistant Wang spoke frankly to Cheng Li, expressing his disdain for Cheng Li's indecisiveness in matters of the heart and bluntly asking if he liked "her," implying Ling Xunxun or Jin Hui. Jin Hui, sensing the awkwardness, quickly pulled Assistant Wang away.

After making sure Jin Hui was settled, Assistant Wang prepared to leave, but not before advising her that she had many other choices in life and should seek someone who would love her more than she loved them. Jin Hui held onto his hand, not wanting him to go, and Assistant Wang eventually fell asleep by her side. Separately, it was revealed that Cheng Li had carried Ling Xunxun home the previous night.

He admonished her about her low alcohol tolerance, telling her not to drink with other men if he wasn't there. Elsewhere, Bao Xiaojing and Mike woke up in the same bed, relieved to find their clothes undisturbed, but still got into a fight, exchanging insults about each other's looks. The atmosphere at a subsequent company meeting was tense. Cheng Li silently smiled upon seeing the injuries on Bao Xiaojing and Mike's faces.

Ling Xunxun found an excuse to escape by offering to order lunch. As she left, she told Bao Xiaojing to go to the conference room later and add water to interrupt the heated discussion. Ling Xunxun returned with food from both McDonald's and KFC, noting that their proximity to each other was an advantage.

This sparked a new idea in Cheng Li: to implement a "bundling sales" strategy for Inglemirepharm and their new Yumeiling brand, opening new Yumeiling counters within every mall where Inglemirepharm stores were already remodeling. Ling Xunxun expressed her doubts to Cheng Li, pointing out that Inglemirepharm would likely object to their brand openly leveraging its popularity, and that Yumeiling, as a new brand, might not meet the standards of larger malls.

Cheng Li insisted she try, wanting to train her to handle tasks independently, and reminded her that her friendship with Hui Yiwang was an advantage. He added, half-joking, that if Hui Yiwang tried anything, he would beat him up. He then instructed Ling Xunxun to discuss this strategy with Hui Yiwang. Ling Xunxun met with Hui Yiwang, employing her "beauty trap" strategy, though it proved ineffective as Hui Yiwang flatly refused, citing that his headquarters would never agree.

After Ling Xunxun left, Hui Yiwang received anonymous photos of their meeting. Ling Xunxun then went to the basketball court to report back to Cheng Li. She expressed her confusion about Cheng Li's deep emotional attachment to the old Yumeiling cosmetics brand. Cheng Li's teammates teased Ling Xunxun, calling her his girlfriend, which she quickly denied, also expressing annoyance at being called "older."

Cheng Li challenged Ling Xunxun to a shooting contest, offering to grant her two requests if he lost (not to ask her to communicate with Hui Yiwang and to stop joking about their relationship), but only one of his requests if she lost. Ling Xunxun, despite having been nicknamed "Akagi Haruko" in the past, hadn't played in ten years. Cheng Li won the game, but declared it a tie given her long break from basketball.

He then proposed they reintroduce themselves: he as Cheng Li, handsome and very rich; she as Ling Xunxun, once admired by many, now divorced and jobless. He then offered her a job opening, which she said she'd consider if the pay was good. Then, pulling her close, he directly confessed, "I am lacking a girlfriend. Are you willing to take it?" Startled and dizzy, Ling Xunxun quickly used a ringing phone as an excuse to flee.

Cheng Li pursued her, cornering her against a wall and asking if she had feelings for him, pressing closer. Ling Xunxun, overwhelmed, pushed him away and ran home, locking herself in her room and ignoring his calls, consumed by self-doubt. Meanwhile, Inglemirepharm's headquarters dispatched Linda to investigate, having received photos suggesting improper conduct between Hui Yiwang and Cheng Li's company regarding their cooperation.

Just then, Cheng Li arrived and declared Ling Xunxun was his girlfriend, asserting that the photos were merely of him and his girlfriend. Lawyer Zhou Quan, present at the meeting, suggested a strategy for Ling Xunxun to admit she was Cheng Li's girlfriend, then claim she later fell for Hui Yiwang, leading to Cheng Li firing her. This, Zhou Quan argued, would protect both companies.

However, Hui Yiwang revealed that Peter had sent the photos, and Cheng Li played an audio recording of Peter sexually harassing Ling Xunxun, effectively discrediting Peter and ending the investigation. Cheng Li then nonchalantly led Ling Xunxun out of the meeting, publicly kissing her to stake his claim and warn everyone not to spread rumors about his girlfriend.

Later, Zhou Quan admitted to Ling Xunxun that she had sent the audio recording to Hui Yiwang after accidentally discovering it on Ling Xunxun's laptop. Ling Xunxun was furious, realizing that Cheng Li, Zhou Quan, and Hui Yiwang had seemingly orchestrated the situation to force her into acknowledging her relationship with Cheng Li. Cheng Li had severely beaten Peter, forcing him to record a video apologizing to Ling Xunxun for his past harassment.

Back at home, Cheng Li called Ling Xunxun his "girlfriend" and asked her to play the apology video for him. Ling Xunxun watched, amused by Peter's bruised face and forced words, and the two playfully struggled over the remote control, falling onto the sofa together.

Episode 9 Recap

As Ling Xunxun found herself in Cheng Li's embrace, she was momentarily stunned before quickly pushing him away, feeling a blush creep up and her heart racing. Cheng Li, who had never been in love, noted her rapid heartbeat and asked if she liked him. Ling Xunxun, feeling shy, retreated, leaving Cheng Li alone. Alone, Cheng Li pondered his hesitation, while an inner voice chided him for not sealing the moment with a kiss to confirm her feelings.

He confidently asserted that the next morning, Ling Xunxun would look at him coyly and call his name. The following morning, Cheng Li suggested he drive them to work, saying it would look like a boyfriend taking his girlfriend to work. Ling Xunxun quickly declined, preferring to drive herself. Cheng Li then settled into the front passenger seat, claiming it would be more comfortable.

However, Ling Xunxun pointed out that his proximity made her nervous and affected her driving, implying he was distracting her. At the office, Mike was conducting a live stream, showcasing the company's work environment. He announced he would perform a live makeup removal and reapplication on a female colleague. This prompted all the female staff to quickly scatter, leaving Mike in a predicament. Ling Xunxun, seeing the live broadcast falter, bravely volunteered to step in, saving the show.

Grateful, Mike hugged her tightly, a gesture that immediately drew Cheng Li's extreme jealousy and displeasure. Cheng Li sternly told Mike to release her. Mike, unfazed, questioned why Cheng Li was upset, claiming he was just hugging "his girl." Ling Xunxun awkwardly stated they were in an office, but Mike insisted a hug was fine. Cheng Li, visibly annoyed, then sought a hug from Ling Xunxun himself, which she playfully refused.

Later, Cheng Li insisted Ling Xunxun accompany him to a basketball court. He claimed his itinerary had been leaked, leading to a crowd of "fans" cheering him on. Ling Xunxun was surprised by his apparent popularity. During a break, Cheng Li took a drink from Ling Xunxun's water bottle and affectionately ruffled her hair, causing her to blush.

As they were leaving, Ling Xunxun overheard Cheng Li paying off the "fans," revealing they were hired actors he had brought in to impress her. She also overheard him on the phone explaining that there were many girls in the world, but he only desired her, and he wanted her to remember the feeling of being moved by him. In the car, she playfully teased him about his acting skills, which annoyed him.

Soon after, Cheng Li began changing his sweaty clothes in the back seat, startling Ling Xunxun and making her heart pound. She quickly averted her gaze, and he casually suggested she didn't have to look. Mike later invited Ling Xunxun to lunch, but she had already made plans with Bao Xiaojing, so the three ended up eating together. Mike and Bao Xiaojing continued their usual bickering, disliking each other.

Ling Xunxun then tentatively brought up the topic of office romance, asking if they would be open to dating a colleague, even a superior or subordinate, and whether it could affect the work-relationship balance. Mike readily agreed, confidently stating that if he liked someone at the company, he'd be willing to quit or support her so she could enjoy life at home. He interpreted Ling Xunxun's questions as her "testing" his feelings for her, much to Bao Xiaojing's speechless reaction.

Ling Xunxun went to the restroom and, upon her return, noticed an unsettling change in Mike's expression towards her, leaving her feeling very panicked. Meanwhile, Cheng Li, seemingly upset by the lunch, confronted Ling Xunxun, asking why she ate alone with Mike. She quickly clarified that Bao Xiaojing was present and that nothing special had occurred. Cheng Li then announced an impromptu company dinner for that evening, citing a lack of team-building events that year.

The dinner began with an awkward atmosphere. Cheng Li excused himself to the restroom, instructing everyone to loosen up. He also invited Zhou Quan, the company's legal advisor, to join. During a game of Truth or Dare, Ling Xunxun chose "dare" and drew a card requiring her to stare into the eyes of one of the colleagues next to her for ten seconds. She was seated between Cheng Li and Mike.

Feeling awkward, she hesitantly chose Mike, but Cheng Li swiftly intervened, deeming the dare inappropriate for colleagues and instead had her drink wine to pass. When it was Cheng Li's turn, he chose "truth" and drew a card asking if the person he liked was present. He confidently replied, "Yes," simultaneously reaching under the table to subtly hold Ling Xunxun's hand.

Later that evening, upon returning home, Ling Xunxun was surprised to find her room decorated for her birthday, complete with a strawberry cake from her favorite shop. Cheng Li revealed he had learned it was her birthday from Zhou Quan's social media, as Ling Xunxun had blocked her own moments from him. He confessed that the "team building" dinner was a ruse to celebrate her birthday with everyone. Ling Xunxun was very touched.

He explained he didn't want her first birthday alone to feel any different, but rather to be surrounded by more people who loved and accompanied her, especially him. He then firmly declared that her dining out with other men was "absolutely impossible" and that he would have fired Mike if he had been the first to celebrate her birthday.

Cheng Li then presented her with a gift, helping her put it on before confessing his feelings and asking her to be his girlfriend. He vowed to keep confessing until she said yes, even if she refused him that night. Before Ling Xunxun could fully process his words, Cheng Li leaned in and kissed her. After a moment of hesitation, she gradually embraced him.

The next morning, Cheng Li was meticulously dressed, his shirt collar slightly unbuttoned, and he once again kissed a somewhat bewildered Ling Xunxun. At breakfast, Cheng Li gazed adoringly at her. When Ling Xunxun's phone rang, he swiftly answered it, informing Zhou Quan that Ling Xunxun would no longer be visiting her house as she was now living with her boyfriend. Zhou Quan, upon hearing the news, expressed her delight that they were finally together.

Later at the office, Cheng Li attempted to ask Bao Xiaojing to buy something, but she hadn't arrived yet. Mike eagerly offered to help instead. Cheng Li awkwardly instructed him to purchase sanitary pads for Ling Xunxun. Mike, initially confused, then called Bao Xiaojing to relay the unusual request and ask her to buy them. Meanwhile, Zhou Quan tried to reach Hui Yiwang but found his phone turned off.

She went to Cheng Li and asked about him, who informed her that Hui Yiwang had been sent back to headquarters the previous day to debrief regarding the Peter situation. Zhou Quan was surprised, saying she was the last to know. As Cheng Li handed the sanitary pads to Ling Xunxun, Zhou Quan unexpectedly witnessed the exchange, leading to an awkward silence between them.

At the front desk, Bao Xiaojing discovered a bouquet of flowers with a card inviting the recipient to a restaurant at 6:30 PM. She initially thought they were for her. Arriving at the location, she found Mike already there. They soon realized they were both waiting for someone, and after a closer look at the card, Bao Xiaojing realized Mike had written it and the flowers were actually intended for Ling Xunxun. Bao Xiaojing immediately began to mock Mike.

Both Bao Xiaojing and Mike started to suspect an unusual relationship between Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun, linking it to the sanitary pad incident and the flower mix-up, and Bao Xiaojing also realized the team building dinner was a pretext for Cheng Li to treat Ling Xunxun to dinner. That evening, Cheng Li had filled their home with various flowers, but to his dismay, Ling Xunxun revealed she was allergic to pollen, though she was still touched by his gesture.

Ling Xunxun mentioned she hadn't visited a movie theater in over a year. Cheng Li admitted he also rarely went due to his discomfort with dark spaces. Despite his aversion, he agreed to go with her to experience a movie in a theater. Inside, Cheng Li visibly struggled with the darkness, enduring it for her sake. Sensing his discomfort, Ling Xunxun gently pulled him out.

Outside the theater, she playfully told him she couldn't focus on the movie with such a handsome man next to her. Cheng Li apologized for not being able to finish the film, suggesting they could watch movies at home or revisit the theater gradually. Ling Xunxun, in turn, apologized for her pollen allergy. In this moment, they formally acknowledged each other as "boyfriend" and "girlfriend." Overjoyed, Cheng Li lifted her into a celebratory embrace.

Ling Xunxun then made two requests to Cheng Li regarding their newfound relationship. First, she asked that they not publicize their romance at work, emphasizing that their professional roles as boss and assistant should take precedence over their romantic relationship. She explained that going public would create awkwardness with colleagues and suggested they "pretend a little" to maintain their professional distance.

Second, she asserted her desire for independence, stating that she was his assistant before his girlfriend, and that she didn't want to move from one man to another or be an "accessory." She further stated that if there was any conflict between work and their relationship, she would resign. She also requested no extra help in her work or life just because they were dating.

Cheng Li agreed to her terms, but asked her not to resign easily, stressing that he needed her and that a good relationship should bring happiness, not anxiety. They then sweetly promised to take care of each other.

Episode 10 Recap

Ling Xunxun visited Zhou Quan for a pollen allergy, a result of Cheng Li filling her home with flowers. Zhou Quan noted Cheng Li's extravagance, but Ling Xunxun insisted it was the thought that counted. Zhou Quan then directly asked if Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li were officially dating, to which Ling Xunxun admitted she was being "greedy" and wanted to "try it once," even if it felt like getting something that didn't belong to her.

Meanwhile, Cheng Li was on the phone, excitedly telling Wang Dong that he was dating, to Wang Dong's exasperation, as Cheng Li had apparently called all their mutual friends for help in his pursuit. Ling Xunxun explained to Zhou Quan that her decision came after Cheng Li, despite not having been to a movie theater in ten years due to his aversion to dark spaces, accompanied her to a film.

Though they only watched for forty minutes, she could tell how difficult it was for him, noting his sweaty, cold hands. She felt he cared for her like an adult, and her heart would be "too cold-blooded" not to be moved. Zhou Quan advised Ling Xunxun that relationships are unpredictable, like her past marriage to Shi Shaozu, and that it's best to aim for a happy ending while enjoying every moment of the journey.

Cheng Li later attempted to share his excitement with Jin Hui, who promptly hung up, declaring she didn't want to hear him "showing off" his love. Later, Ling Xunxun reflected on her new relationship, resolving to be energized and good to Cheng Li, but first needing to tell him the truth about her child. Zhou Quan apologized for previously advising Ling Xunxun to hide DuDu's existence, admitting she hadn't anticipated the seriousness of Ling Xunxun's relationship with Cheng Li.

Ling Xunxun felt manipulative for keeping it a secret and decided she would confess to him tomorrow. If he couldn't accept her lie and her having a child, she would resign, though she still felt "worthy" of his affection. The next morning, Zhou Quan rushed out, having received a text that Hui Yiwang had landed and was back. At the office, Cheng Li pulled Ling Xunxun into his office and hugged her.

He complimented her scent, saying it was the laundry powder he bought for her. Ling Xunxun told him she had something important to tell him that night and asked if he was free. Cheng Li playfully asked if she was planning to confess her love and if she had a present, to which Ling Xunxun replied that she was the present herself. They agreed to meet later.

Meanwhile, Zhou Quan arrived at Hui Yiwang's doorstep, only to discover Mo Yunyun inside. Hui Yiwang tried to explain that Mo Yunyun was there because she was getting a divorce and needed a place to rest, but Zhou Quan was furious, sarcastically asking if Mo Yunyun was already pursuing someone else before her divorce was even finalized. Zhou Quan quickly left.

Ling Xunxun later called Zhou Quan to gossip, and Zhou Quan, still upset, complained about Mo Yunyun's return, calling her the "top angelic b"tch." Ling Xunxun tried to reassure her, but Zhou Quan expressed feeling like a failure in Mo Yunyun's presence. Ling Xunxun had also reached out to a former teacher, Teacher Zhou, to inquire about Cheng Li's school history.

The teacher found nothing unusual about Cheng Li as a student, but noted there was a striking lack of information about his school years, as if someone had intentionally removed it. Furthermore, Cheng Li's mother had annually donated to the school after he transferred.

When Ling Xunxun showed this to Cheng Li, he found it odd that his mother, who never cared for him while he was at school, started donating after he left, joking he must have caused "big trouble." Ling Xunxun expressed anxiety that her efforts yielded nothing special. Cheng Li reassured her that his illness likely had nothing to do with his school days, and his mother had her reasons for keeping things secret.

Later, Mike approached Ling Xunxun, insisting they go to the rooftop for coffee and asking directly if she and Cheng Li were together. Ling Xunxun refused to answer, but Cheng Li suddenly appeared, asserting his claim on Ling Xunxun and ordering Mike to stay away from her. Mike, angered, couldn't bring himself to wish them happiness, challenging Cheng Li about the "barriers" in their relationship and accusing him of not being serious.

Mike also declared his own feelings for Ling Xunxun, identifying himself as a "straight and strong man" who had the right to like her, and suggested that he could offer her the love and security she desired, unlike a "random person" who would cause her regret. Cheng Li vehemently retorted that he was not a "random person." As Mike left, he conceded that he was the "random person."

Their colleagues, witnessing the confrontation, speculated about Ling Xunxun's relationship with their boss. Ling Xunxun asked Cheng Li if they could keep their relationship low-key at the company, concerned about how many people they would have to explain things to if they ever broke up. Cheng Li dismissed her worries, emphasizing that he wanted to tell the whole world she was his, and that he was the one who should feel insecure, especially with Mike now publicly fighting for her.

Cheng Li then announced that everyone in the office could leave early, stating he could now "publicly show our relationship in the office." Ling Xunxun questioned the appropriateness of his actions, to which he declared he was like a "macho boss of an idol drama," and reiterated his desire to give her love, not burden her.

That evening, Mike and Bao Xiaojing went to a KTV, where Mike, feeling heartbroken over Ling Xunxun, called her a "big fool," and Bao Xiaojing retorted that Mike was the "big fool." Cheng Li had booked an entire restaurant for their dinner. Ling Xunxun found it a bit exaggerated and wasteful.

Their dinner was interrupted by the sudden arrival of Cheng Li's mother, who questioned if Ling Xunxun was truly a "girl" and presented Cheng Li with photos of Ling Xunxun and her son, DuDu. Cheng Li's mother accused Ling Xunxun of being manipulative, seeking to change her life through marriage, and of trying to conceal the truth. Cheng Li, initially protective, dismissed his mother's intervention, telling her not to use "business tricks" on his family.

However, Ling Xunxun, seeing the photos, admitted that DuDu was indeed her son. She confessed that she had lied on her application because she desperately needed the job, initially believing that having a son wouldn't impact her work. She explained that she had intended to be honest with him tonight. Cheng Li’s mother pressed the issue, questioning if Ling Xunxun would have ever confessed without the photos. Ling Xunxun, tearfully, admitted her lie and expressed her deep regret.

She clarified that she never sought to improve her life through marriage, having previously sacrificed herself for a harmonious family in her last marriage, and never wanted to gain anything from Cheng Li. Seeing her tears, Cheng Li pulled her away from the restaurant, declaring that his love for her and his acceptance of her was solely their business, not his mother's.

After they left, Cheng Li’s mother sighed to her assistant, admitting that if Ling Xunxun hadn't touched upon past matters, she would have let her go. In the car, Cheng Li expressed his deep disappointment, wishing Ling Xunxun had confessed to him personally instead of being exposed by his mother, saying she had treated him like a fool. Ling Xunxun, apologetic, offered to resign the next day, hoping to spare him any discomfort.

But Cheng Li, still angry, questioned why she wanted to leave before he had even fully processed his emotions, even threatening her with a breach of contract lawsuit if she quit. Upon returning to Cheng Li's house, he shut himself in his room. Distraught, Ling Xunxun called Zhou Quan, crying and expressing how terrible she felt and how she couldn't bear Cheng Li's coldness. Zhou Quan rushed to her side, comforting her.

Zhou Quan assured Ling Xunxun that she wasn't entirely wrong for loving someone and having expectations. She advised Ling Xunxun that Cheng Li also needed time to digest the news, especially since he was now facing the prospect of becoming a stepfather. Zhou Quan pointed out that Cheng Li wasn't emotionally mature and was likely as hurt as Ling Xunxun. She encouraged Ling Xunxun to face him without being overly humble or pushy.

Elsewhere, a drunk Mike was live-streaming, publicly removing his makeup. He candidly expressed his frustration with having to pretend to be "sissy" to succeed as a cosmetic blogger, claiming the industry saw "straight men" as having "improper aesthetic value." He tearfully confessed his love for a girl he had been too afraid to confess to, only for her to now be dating someone else. Ling Xunxun watched his livestream, letting out a quiet sigh.

The next day, Ling Xunxun's ex-husband called, claiming DuDu wanted to see her. Ling Xunxun rushed over, but DuDu was not there, having already fallen asleep. Her ex-husband revealed that her parents had called him, having been unable to reach her. Ling Xunxun explained she hadn't told her parents about their divorce because they had nearly disowned her for marrying him initially, and she couldn't bear to admit her carefully chosen husband had cheated.

Her ex-husband then suggested they remarry for DuDu's sake. Ling Xunxun firmly refused, saying she wouldn't remarry him just for him to continue having affairs. She asserted that even if she had been blind once, she wouldn't be blind forever. The following morning, Cheng Li ignored the breakfast Ling Xunxun prepared, maintaining a cold demeanor on his way to work.

At the office, Mike appeared with a new image, which Bao Xiaojing and other colleagues encouraged, despite the awkwardness of his viral livestream. During a meeting about Yumeiling Cosmetics, Ling Xunxun proposed a new marketing strategy based on people's association of the brand with "smells like mom," suggesting they target mothers who used Yumeiling skincare products to now use its makeup. Although initially met with skepticism, Director Lin praised her idea, encouraging her to be more confident.

Director Lin later privately told Ling Xunxun that working after a divorce was "not a big deal," as she herself was divorced and had a child, a sentiment echoed by another colleague. Later, Cheng Li, still cold, assigned Ling Xunxun to work overtime and ordered her to fetch him roasted goose from a specific, non-delivery restaurant across the city.

After Ling Xunxun went to get the food, Cheng Li texted her, saying he was no longer eating the takeout as he had dinner with a client. Ling Xunxun, left with the roasted goose, sadly sat by the roadside and ate it alone.

Episode 11 Recap

Feeling dejected, Cheng Li spoke on the phone to his former house manager, confiding that he had lost his love. He expressed his hurt that Ling Xunxun had lied to him about having a child, calling the revelation a "bombshell" that was too sudden, especially since his own mother had been the one to inform him, causing him immense embarrassment.

His friend reassured him that Ling Xunxun likely hadn't intended to deceive him, as her employment agreement might have restricted having a child, and initially, they were only colleagues. It was only when their relationship became romantic that she had a reason to confess, which she did as soon as possible.

He questioned if Cheng Li was more upset about the lie itself or his inability to accept Ling Xunxun and her child, suggesting that his mother might have used this situation to drive a wedge between them. He urged Cheng Li to cherish Ling Xunxun, noting how difficult it was for him to form relationships. Ling Xunxun, overhearing Cheng Li's phone call, felt a pang of sadness.

Ling Xunxun decided to move to Zhou Quan's place to give Cheng Li space but promised to continue making his breakfast and driving him to work daily. Later, Zhou Quan met Hui Yiwang for lunch, but her mood soured instantly when Mo Yunyun arrived. Annoyed, Zhou Quan quickly drove away, leaving Hui Yiwang behind. That evening, Ling Xunxun received a notification about a power outage at Cheng Li's apartment complex.

Concerned about his fear of the dark, she immediately drove back to his place. Her previously installed solar lamp proved effective in the dim apartment. Cheng Li, who had deliberately manipulated the building management to cut the power even after it was fixed, used the darkness to his advantage, pulling Ling Xunxun closer and kissing her. The next morning, Cheng Li's demeanor became noticeably cold.

He asked Ling Xunxun to drive him to a flower shop, which upset her, as she suspected he was buying flowers for another woman like Jin Hui, despite knowing he was allergic to pollen. When she confronted him about his inconsistent behavior, Cheng Li retorted that her annoyance was nothing compared to what he had endured. In the car, Cheng Li revealed the flowers were for his deceased father; it was the anniversary of his death.

At the cemetery, Cheng Li placed his father's favorite cigarettes and the best wine, which he bought with his mother's money, at the grave. He mused that his life would have been different and happier if his father were still alive, even if he weren't as wealthy. Ling Xunxun tried to console him, saying his father would want him to live a happy life to alleviate his own guilt.

Cheng Li then realized he had lost his father's lighter, a cherished gift. Ling Xunxun went back to search for it and spotted a woman, Auntie Tong, with a young boy at Cheng Li's father's grave. They quickly fled upon seeing her. Before Ling Xunxun could tell Cheng Li, he had already seen the boy, Zhao Yan, who bore an uncanny resemblance to his father.

Devastated by the revelation of his half-brother, Cheng Li was overcome with grief, and Ling Xunxun held him in comfort. Cheng Li fell ill that night, and Ling Xunxun stayed by his side. He asked her to hug him, saying he felt cold, and they fell asleep embracing each other. The next morning, Cheng Li, in a much brighter mood, ordered a large takeout breakfast for them.

As they ate, he playfully likened her to an adorable and sad hedgehog without its spurs, and a little furry ball. Later, they went for a bike ride. Ling Xunxun mentioned often bringing DuDu there with Zhou Quan. Cheng Li expressed envy, recalling his own mother never taking him out to play.

Ling Xunxun defended his mother, acknowledging the difficulties of being a strong woman at that time and admitting she might have acted similarly if she were in her position. She argued that white lies told to protect a child, though still lies, are sometimes preferable, and that the love mothers have for their children is unchanging. Cheng Li asked if she was defending his mother or excusing her own lie.

Ling Xunxun then asked if he could forgive her and if they could simply be friends, to which Cheng Li replied that he needed to think about it. Their conversation was interrupted by a wedding company representative who mistook them for a couple and invited them to take wedding photos. Ling Xunxun quickly clarified they were not a couple but expressed interest in learning about the company's marketing strategies, asking Cheng Li for two hours off to do so.

Ling Xunxun and Zhou Quan later visited the wedding company for marketing insights. Zhou Quan, however, was preoccupied with her anger over Mo Yunyun reappearing and trying to seduce Hui Yiwang, whom she viewed as a "casual woman." Ling Xunxun tried to calm her, reminding her that Hui Yiwang was just a friend, but Zhou Quan accused her of taking his side. Ling Xunxun humorously remarked that Cheng Li was like a second child to her.

Back home, Cheng Li informed Ling Xunxun that he had found Auntie Tong's address. Understanding his desire to confront her, Ling Xunxun offered to accompany him. At Auntie Tong's house, Auntie Tong explained that her supposed friendship with Cheng Li's mother was merely a pretense to stay near his father. She revealed that Cheng Li's mother had given her the house and money, demanding she keep the truth from Cheng Li because he idolized his father.

Auntie Tong admitted her past attempt to "steal" Cheng Li's father was a misguided attempt at victory but realized she could never truly defeat Cheng Li's mother, who built Yumeiling from the ground up and carried her pain alone to protect Cheng Li. She implored Cheng Li to blame her, but never his mother, whom she described as a "great woman." Cheng Li then met his half-brother, Zhao Yan, who greeted him easily as "Brother."

They agreed to sweep their father's grave together on his next death anniversary. Afterward, Cheng Li took Ling Xunxun to a roadside stall near Yumeiling's old factory, a place he frequented as a child with his parents. He noted that while the dishes were the same, the "taste was different" because the people had changed. Ling Xunxun ordered a bottle of white wine (Erguotou).

Cheng Li mused that while he felt pitiful, Zhao Yan was even more so, forced to live a life dictated by irresponsible adults. Cheng Li's mother arrived at the stall. Ling Xunxun discreetly excused herself. Drunk, Cheng Li confessed to his mother that he inherited her "unhappy face" and "proud personality." He expressed gratitude for all she had done for him over the years, admitting it was difficult for him to say kind words because he took after her.

Cheng Li's mother was deeply moved, realizing her son had truly grown up, and asked Ling Xunxun to take him home. Cheng Li woke up to find Ling Xunxun holding a birthday cake. She explained that his mother had informed her it was his birthday and asked her to make him longevity noodles, but he had slept so long they had become thick.

Ling Xunxun then presented him with a bouquet of flowers as a gift, but Cheng Li immediately tossed them away, concerned about her pollen allergy. Ling Xunxun, slightly miffed, explained that she bought the flowers to confess her feelings, as it was a traditional gesture. Cheng Li pressed her to elaborate on her confession. Ling Xunxun admitted her hesitations: being older, divorced, and a mother, she felt they were ill-matched.

She had tried to suppress her feelings, fearing loss, but acknowledged that seeing him made her heart pound, making her feel truly alive. She confessed her deep love for him and her belief that he loved her too. She declared she no longer wanted to deny their relationship due to an uncertain future, stating that life was short and she wanted to live every day with him to the fullest.

Even if he were to stop loving her, she would have no regrets, counting herself lucky to have been loved by him. Deeply touched, Cheng Li wiped Ling Xunxun's tears, calling her his "best gift" and congratulating her on a successful confession. He then revealed that he had known about the blackout notice but intentionally withheld the information, hoping she would rush back to "save" him and confirm her love.

He further admitted that the power had actually been fixed that night, but he had instructed the workers to pull the generator switch to prolong their time in the dark. Ling Xunxun playfully accused him of being scheming and petty. Cheng Li countered that he was younger and had felt she made things "too easy" for him before, so he wanted to make her wait.

He then carried Ling Xunxun into his room, declaring his intention to "unwrap his birthday gift" and that he could now only bear "the distance of a bed" between them. Ling Xunxun was momentarily startled, but Cheng Li only wished to hold her.

Episode 12 Recap

Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun were deeply reconciled, indulging in a sweet domestic life together. Cheng Li happily took on the role of Ling Xunxun’s personal assistant, driving her, and cooking for her. One evening, after Cheng Li prepared an elaborate meal, Ling Xunxun teasingly asked if he had attended a culinary school. Cheng Li proudly stated that intelligent individuals quickly master anything, while those who are less clever possess almost no life skills.

Ling Xunxun, feeling slightly annoyed, listed several simple dishes she could prepare, such as rice porridge, millet congee, fried eggs with tomato, tomato and egg soup, and egg fried rice. Cheng Li then playfully suggested she should be grateful to her ex-husband for abandoning her, as it allowed her to discover a “treasure” like him. Ling Xunxun conceded with a smile, though she wished he were less conceited.

The next morning, at the office, Mike placed a box of cosmetics on Ling Xunxun’s desk. Cheng Li immediately grabbed it and threw it onto Mike’s desk, sternly warning him to stay away from Ling Xunxun, who was his girlfriend. He emphasized that as the owner of a cosmetics company, he had no shortage of money to buy products for her.

Mike protested that it was a work-related gift from Inglemirepharm and questioned if Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun were still broken up. Cheng Li accused him of trying to take advantage of their previous fight and threatened to fire him. Mike retorted that he would inform Cheng Li’s mother about his unprofessional conduct, but Cheng Li dismissed the threat, saying his mother would be pleased if he fired Mike.

Noticing the commotion, Bao Xiaojing stepped in and took the cosmetics for herself, expressing her liking for them. Later, Mike asked Bao Xiaojing if any letters had arrived for him. She handed him a letter from California, which he revealed was from his first fan, a girl studying abroad. Mike eagerly inquired about her appearance, to which Bao Xiaojing confirmed she was indeed pretty, even prettier than Ling Xunxun, before suggesting Ling Xunxun wear less makeup.

Mike then announced he needed a quiet place to enjoy time with his fan. Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li invited Zhou Quan to their home for dinner. Zhou Quan was delighted to see them reconciled and joked that she felt like a mother-in-law meeting her future son-in-law. She expressed that as long as Cheng Li treated Ling Xunxun well, she had no objections, and their future would unfold naturally. Ling Xunxun thanked Zhou Quan for being her steadfast support.

Impressed by Cheng Li’s cooking, Zhou Quan humorously inquired if he needed "concubines," to which Cheng Li laughingly declined, fearing his "empress" (Ling Xunxun) would be jealous. To express their gratitude, Cheng Li arranged a golf outing with Hui Yiwang, specifically telling him it was a business meeting and to come alone. However, much to Zhou Quan’s dismay, Hui Yiwang arrived with Mo Yunyun, claiming she was in a bad mood and wished to come along.

During the golf session, Mo Yunyun, despite knowing how to play, exaggerated her inexperience and asked Hui Yiwang to teach her, while Zhou Quan fumed, wishing she could hit Mo Yunyun with a club. Ling Xunxun tried to calm Zhou Quan, reminding her that Mo Yunyun was going through a difficult divorce.

Ling Xunxun then created a diversion by taking Mo Yunyun to the restroom under the pretense of offering her an "ABC Chinese cotton sanitary pad," leaving Hui Yiwang and Zhou Quan alone. Moments later, Hui Yiwang called Ling Xunxun, revealing he was injured. When Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li returned, they learned that Hui Yiwang had tried to coax Zhou Quan into a softer approach, similar to Mo Yunyun’s pretense of helplessness to give him a sense of achievement.

Zhou Quan scornfully rejected the idea, asserting that she would never rely on others for a man's ego boost and would learn to play by herself. In her frustration, she accidentally hit Hui Yiwang with a golf club, striking his head. Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun found the situation incredibly amusing and couldn't stop laughing. Cheng Li mused that most men would struggle to be with someone like Zhou Quan, with Ling Xunxun adding, "Mission failed."

Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun enjoyed a deeply intertwined life, with Cheng Li making breakfast for her daily. Ling Xunxun, however, found their happiness almost too perfect, feeling as though it wasn't real. Cheng Li reassured her that everything, including his feelings for her, was real. He then confided in her about his own insecurities, revealing that his father died when he was very young, and his mother's focus on her career often left him feeling abandoned and inferior.

He recounted how a past girlfriend in England had distanced herself due to his PTSD, and how he felt unworthy of protecting Jin Hui because she had seen his past bad experiences. He asserted that it wasn't Ling Xunxun who didn't deserve him, but rather he who felt he didn't deserve her. Ling Xunxun, touched by his vulnerability, asked if he truly understood the difference between dependence and love.

Cheng Li urged her to stop doubting and worrying, affirming his certainty in their relationship. Late that night, Zhou Quan showed up at Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li’s apartment, clutching a teddy bear and declaring she was in a bad mood and relying on them. Ling Xunxun noted how unusual this behavior was for the typically strong Zhou Quan.

Cheng Li, barely awake, suggested Zhou Quan go to Hui Yiwang’s house the next morning and "start a fair competition" with Mo Yunyun. The next day, Zhou Quan indeed went to Hui Yiwang’s place, claiming she needed to escape the mother of an assistant she had helped, who was now constantly showing up at her house with food, hinting at wanting Zhou Quan as a daughter-in-law. Hui Yiwang expressed his discomfort, explaining that Mo Yunyun was still living there.

Zhou Quan insisted, pointing out that his house had multiple rooms. Hui Yiwang reluctantly agreed. Zhou Quan was then dismayed to discover that Mo Yunyun had claimed the master bedroom, stating it was more convenient with a bathroom, leaving Zhou Quan with a smaller, less comfortable room. She called Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li to complain, realizing that her "two stupid teammates" were not providing helpful advice for her romantic predicament.

Ling Xunxun’s marketing proposal, which focused on the "smell of moms," was approved. Cheng Li expressed his gratitude to Ling Xunxun for helping him move past his own emotional burdens. He told her he recognized many admirable qualities in her, seeing her as embodying the "smell of moms" – simultaneously delicate and resilient. This newfound understanding helped him grasp his mother's decision to sell Yumeiling; she wished to deliberately say goodbye to the past and forget her weak self.

Cheng Li’s mother, after reviewing Ling Xunxun’s proposal, acknowledged Ling Xunxun as a "clever girl" who not only solved her own challenges but also seemed to mend the relationship between mother and son. She then approved the necessary funds for their project. Meanwhile, Mike created a "handmade mask with love" and asked Bao Xiaojing to mail it to his fan in California.

Bao Xiaojing’s comments about the fan being "lucky" and Mike being "very kind to her" hinted at her unspoken envy. Mike clarified that the fan was just a "little girl" and not what Bao Xiaojing was imagining. Later, Zhou Quan, back at Hui Yiwang’s house, heard a scream and saw him exiting Mo Yunyun’s room. Angered and suspecting something, she left, calling Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li, who were tired from being woken up late at night.

Zhou Quan complained about being "bullied," while Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li, still half-asleep, began recalling their own relationship. Ling Xunxun shared that she realized her love for Cheng Li the day they visited his father’s grave, wanting to care for him because his father had died when Cheng Li had the accident, leaving him sad. Zhou Quan, frustrated by their open display of affection, abruptly left their home.

Back at Hui Yiwang's house, Zhou Quan entered Mo Yunyun's room, seeking sanitary pads. Mo Yunyun, just out of the shower, shrieked and retreated to the bathroom, revealing injuries on her body. Hui Yiwang explained to Zhou Quan that Mo Yunyun had returned after severe domestic abuse and was emotionally and spiritually unstable, confiding in no one else about such a private matter.

Understanding Mo Yunyun’s plight, Zhou Quan comforted her, told Hui Yiwang to take good care of her, and offered to move out the next day. She also generously offered to recommend the best lawyer in international divorce cases from her firm to help Mo Yunyun. Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li later explored a night market, which Cheng Li said he particularly liked.

Ling Xunxun was touched to learn that Cheng Li had helped Miss Yin, an artist they encountered, secure a job opportunity. Miss Yin revealed that Cheng Li had found her crying while selling her paintings late at night to raise money, and offered her a chance, otherwise she might have given up her dreams and returned home.

Cheng Li explained his fondness for the night market, appreciating how people from diverse backgrounds—art academy graduates and craftsmen—strove to create their best work, demonstrating that "everyone can pursue beauty." He drew a parallel to their cosmetics company, which also aimed to make the world more beautiful. He distinguished his approach from his mother’s, stating that he wished to be a person with feelings first, and then conduct business with feelings.

Episode 13 Recap

DuDu fell ill suddenly in the middle of the night, and with his father, Shi Shaozu, away on a business trip, Ling Xunxun rushed to the hospital after receiving a call from DuDu's nanny. Ling Xunxun stayed by DuDu's side throughout the night. The next morning, DuDu awoke feeling hungry. Just as Ling Xunxun was telling him to wait for Auntie Zhou Quan to bring food, Cheng Li arrived with a variety of breakfast options.

DuDu, curious about the handsome young man, called Cheng Li "Brother," but Cheng Li insisted he call him "Uncle." Ling Xunxun found the situation awkward and pulled Cheng Li aside, explaining that neither he nor DuDu were ready for such an introduction, especially under these circumstances. Cheng Li apologized, admitting he had only considered Ling Xunxun's need for support but didn't consider her child.

He then offered to take the day off to stay with them, to which Ling Xunxun hesitated, suggesting he go to work, but Cheng Li insisted he would take the day off to accompany them. Shortly after, Shi Shaozu arrived. Cheng Li, before leaving, made it clear he was there to bring breakfast to his girlfriend, Ling Xunxun, not just for his car, which he allowed her to use freely.

As he left, Cheng Li watched Ling Xunxun and Shi Shaozu share a laugh with DuDu, who was calling them "Mommy and Daddy," and felt like an outsider. Meanwhile, at the office, Mike and Bao Xiaojing were bickering, as usual. Mike scolded Bao Xiaojing for hiding from a visiting major shareholder.

Their usual bickering ensued, with Mike teasing Bao Xiaojing about her looks and fake designer brands, and Bao Xiaojing retorting that she didn't lack money, but someone to spend it with, even offering to make Mike her 'kept man'. When Bao Xiaojing brought tea to Cheng Li and the shareholder, she accidentally spilled it. The shareholder berated her for her clumsiness, suggesting she was only fit to be a receptionist.

Mike, displeased, stepped in to defend Bao Xiaojing, only to realize, much to his embarrassment, that the shareholder was Bao Xiaojing's father. Bao Xiaojing's father had wanted to set her up with Cheng Li, placing her at the company's front desk. However, she had fallen for Mike instead. Mike quickly made his excuses and retreated from the office, leaving Cheng Li to secretly enjoy the amusing turn of events, relieved he no longer had to be Bao Xiaojing's potential suitor.

Back at the hospital, Shi Shaozu attempted to reconcile with Ling Xunxun, using DuDu as an excuse and arguing that her relationship with Cheng Li was unrealistic given Cheng Li's influential mother and Ling Xunxun's status as a divorced woman with a child. Ling Xunxun firmly rejected his advances, stating that while she wasn't sure about marriage, being with Cheng Li made her feel like she was improving and becoming the person she wanted to be.

As Ling Xunxun left the hospital, she encountered Zhou Quan and Hui Yiwang bringing Mo Yunyun in, who had attempted suicide with sleeping pills. Inside Mo Yunyun's room, Mo Yunyun lashed out, accusing them of coming to gloat.

Zhou Quan, in her fiery and blunt way, challenged Mo Yunyun to live strongly and reclaim her life, even going so far as to offer a lawyer's business card for her divorce case, urging her to hire a good lawyer and get more compensation. Hui Yiwang, trying to ease the tension, had to escort Zhou Quan out, who angrily cursed him as she left.

Later, Cheng Li inadvertently mentioned to Zhou Quan that he had seen Hui Yiwang at a jewelry store with a girl, causing Zhou Quan distress as she feared losing Hui Yiwang forever. Ling Xunxun, drawing on her own experiences, advised Zhou Quan against timidity, urging her to pursue Hui Yiwang with the same fierce determination she applied to her legal cases. Around the same time, Mike found himself awkwardly avoiding Bao Xiaojing after his blunder with her father.

Bao Xiaojing, however, sought him out, insisting that they continue to interact as they normally did, without the formalities that arose from his newfound knowledge of her family status. Meanwhile, Hui Yiwang accompanied Mo Yunyun to a law firm, where Zhou Quan's colleague confirmed that Mo Yunyun's divorce case, involving domestic violence and no prenuptial agreement, was straightforward in terms of compensation.

Ling Xunxun asked Cheng Li for two days off the following weekend to take DuDu out since Shi Shaozu would be on a business trip. Cheng Li suggested they all go together. On the trip, DuDu initially maintained a cool demeanor towards Cheng Li, making Ling Xunxun feel awkward as she tried to bridge the gap. Cheng Li, determined to win DuDu over, caught a doll for Ling Xunxun from a crane machine, boasting about his skills.

DuDu challenged him to a basketball game, offering to play with Cheng Li if Cheng Li could beat Ling Xunxun. Cheng Li accepted, deliberately winning to ensure DuDu would have to play with him. Throughout the day at the amusement park, Cheng Li slowly began to connect with DuDu, and by the time they returned home, both Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun were exhausted but felt the atmosphere had become more harmonious.

Shi Shaozu later called Ling Xunxun, again asking her to return home to care for DuDu due to his demanding business trips. Cheng Li was quick to object, but DuDu's longing for his mother complicated the situation. Shi Shaozu then informed Ling Xunxun about an upcoming parent-child activity at DuDu's school, which required both parents, and mentioned DuDu was supposed to perform a street dance. Ling Xunxun expressed her inability to dance, and Shi Shaozu offered to participate.

However, Shi Shaozu soon called back, claiming an urgent business trip to France would prevent him from attending. Unbeknownst to Ling Xunxun, Cheng Li had orchestrated this trip, arranging for Shi Shaozu to be placed on the itinerary. With Shi Shaozu out of the picture, Cheng Li stepped up, offering to dance with DuDu. DuDu, now more receptive, agreed and even added Cheng Li on WeChat.

Cheng Li spent the following days secretly practicing street dance in his office, much to Ling Xunxun's appreciation, though he claimed it was solely for his own dignity in front of DuDu, admitting he wasn't naturally gifted at dancing. On the day of the parent-child activity, Cheng Li and DuDu performed their street dance, winning a prize and delighting Ling Xunxun.

After the event, as they had dinner, DuDu had a candid conversation with Cheng Li while Ling Xunxun parked the car. DuDu confessed that he liked Cheng Li and saw how happy his mother was with him. He also revealed that his father had suggested Cheng Li was too young and handsome to stay committed.

Cheng Li patiently explained that true love had nothing to do with age or appearance and affirmed his commitment to making Ling Xunxun and those she loved, including DuDu, happy. Touched by Cheng Li's sincerity, DuDu finally accepted him and, sealing their bond, began calling him "Uncle Cheng Li." Cheng Li, elated, then offered to treat them to pizza.

Episode 14 Recap

While DuDu was asleep, Cheng Li and Ling Xunxun were downstairs having a moment. Cheng Li, still somewhat worried about DuDu, suggested Ling Xunxun go check on him. He remarked that he was happy to be the "backup" between DuDu, Ling Xunxun, and himself. Ling Xunxun was surprised by his words, noting that despite being only 23, he made her feel very secure.

Cheng Li responded that a man's sense of security comes not from his age, but from the depth of his love. Ling Xunxun then went upstairs. Zhou Quan, upon Ling Xunxun's return, immediately sensed the "stinky love smell" emanating from her. Ling Xunxun asked about Hui Yiwang, as he had been spending a lot of time with Mo Yunyun recently.

Zhou Quan explained she had arranged for a top international divorce lawyer to handle Mo Yunyun’s case, hoping that once Mo Yunyun had to fight for her fortune, Hui Yiwang would finally let go. Ling Xunxun found Zhou Quan's approach strange for someone in love and suggested she talk to Hui Yiwang directly, but Zhou Quan stood by her principle of "whoever loves gets loved," refusing to lower herself for him. Ling Xunxun commented on her conflicted nature.

The next day, Cheng Li mentioned that Shi Shaozu had taken DuDu to kindergarten, confirming they had become good friends after DuDu sent him a message. Ling Xunxun noted that Hui Yiwang and Zhou Quan's push-and-pull dynamic was tiresome, just as Cheng Li had once mentioned seeing Hui Yiwang at a jewelry store with a woman. Cheng Li likened their situation to a soccer game where players enjoy the process but never score. Ling Xunxun found his metaphor interesting.

Ling Xunxun offered to get Cheng Li coffee, and he playfully requested a "love version" coffee made by her. Later, at the company entrance, Ling Xunxun encountered an elderly woman demanding to see Cheng Li but refusing to state her reason. As Cheng Li's assistant, Ling Xunxun refused her entry. During lunchtime, Ling Xunxun discovered Cheng Li secretly playing games in his office, a place he usually kept private for an hour.

She revealed her own impressive gaming skills, surprising Cheng Li. Mike walked in, feeling overlooked, and sarcastically remarked that Cheng Li wouldn't need him for games anymore, even suggesting he might resign. Cheng Li quickly reassured him, promising to play games with both of them. As the three rode the elevator down for lunch, the lights flickered and went out, causing Cheng Li to collapse. Ling Xunxun and Mike quickly took him to the hospital.

Meanwhile, at the law firm, Hui Yiwang and Mo Yunyun were meeting with their lawyer, Lawyer Huang. Zhou Quan also arrived, pretending to be there coincidentally, and subtly signaled Lawyer Huang, implying that Mo Yunyun and Hui Yiwang were living together and that this could be misunderstood by Mo Yunyun's ex-husband's legal team. Lawyer Huang, taking the hint, immediately advised Mo Yunyun to move out. Zhou Quan "kindly" offered her own home, which Mo Yunyun disdainfully refused.

Hui Yiwang then pulled Zhou Quan aside to talk, asking her not to "add insult to injury" to Mo Yunyun, who had recently "escaped death." Zhou Quan, annoyed, responded that she was merely acting professionally and that Hui Yiwang was a good man who would protect Mo Yunyun. At the hospital, Cheng Li woke up and realized many people must have seen him faint.

Ling Xunxun explained their official story was that he fainted from fatigue, a story Cheng Li found unconvincing. After Cheng Li fell asleep, Ling Xunxun sought out his mother. She asked why Cheng Li's mother wouldn't reveal the truth about his condition, believing it could aid his recovery. Cheng Li's mother replied that Cheng Li had already accepted Ling Xunxun having a child, but warned of other significant obstacles that they would need to overcome themselves.

She promised that if Ling Xunxun remained by Cheng Li's side and caused no trouble, she would not oppose their relationship, even supporting their marriage. Ling Xunxun was stunned by this level of compromise and admitted she was scared, wondering what secret could compel such a woman to compromise so much. Cheng Li's mother warned her that not knowing was a form of protection, and knowing would force her to face difficult choices.

A doctor informed them that Cheng Li's fainting was a PTSD episode and recommended a comprehensive check-up, which Cheng Li dismissed, stating he had a personal doctor. After Cheng Li was discharged, he questioned Ling Xunxun about her whereabouts earlier when she missed Zhou Quan's call, noticing her stuttering when she claimed to have gone for coffee. Cheng Li then revealed he had already promised Zhou Quan they would go for drinks that night.

Despite Ling Xunxun’s concerns about his health, Cheng Li insisted he needed to be seen after the fainting incident. Ling Xunxun reluctantly agreed, warning him not to drink. Later that evening, Cheng Li, Ling Xunxun, and Zhou Quan arrived at a bar and spotted Hui Yiwang sitting nearby. An old client of Zhou Quan's approached her, trying to force her to drink.

Seeing this, Hui Yiwang immediately started beating the man, prompting Ling Xunxun, Cheng Li, and Zhou Quan to intervene and stop the fight. Ling Xunxun handed Zhou Quan the car key, urging her to take Hui Yiwang home and discreetly told her to "do whatever you want with him." In the car, Zhou Quan scolded Hui Yiwang, noting his uncharacteristic aggression, as he had never fought like that in school. She pressed him about what was on his mind.

When Hui Yiwang stepped out to buy medicine for his injury, Zhou Quan accidentally discovered a jewelry ring in his car. Recalling Cheng Li’s earlier comment about Hui Yiwang taking a woman to a jewelry store, her heart sank. Upon Hui Yiwang's return, she subtly asked if anything new was happening. He replied that Mo Yunyun was leaving the country for her lawsuit, and he intended to "finish some things" and "give a certain someone an answer" before her departure.

Zhou Quan drove him home, fighting back tears. On her taxi ride home, she broke down crying, convinced he was planning to propose to Mo Yunyun. Ling Xunxun, inspired by a pamphlet for Platinum Travel Shooting Company that she had kept, proposed that Yumeiling become a cosmetic supplier for them. She believed this collaboration would enhance Yumeiling's brand value and allow for joint promotions.

Cheng Li liked the idea, mentioning that he had already tasked Ling Xunxun with drafting a proposal. He emphasized that while "mom's smell" was a good initial theme for Yumeiling, the brand needed to evolve to improve its sense of fashion and appeal to a younger audience. Ling Xunxun suggested a promotion where children could gift their parents a wedding photoshoot package, exclusively featuring Yumeiling products, which would allow them to collaborate without directly competing with larger brands.

Cheng Li praised her sharp thinking, comparing it to his own. Ling Xunxun playfully suggested he reward her by arranging a photoshoot for his mother and Uncle Wen first, and Cheng Li called Platinum Travel Shooting Company to book a package for his elders. Later that night, a drunk Zhou Quan called Ling Xunxun, sobbing uncontrollably.

She revealed that Hui Yiwang seemed to be proposing to Mo Yunyun, having seen the ring and recalling his earlier comment about "giving an answer." Ling Xunxun was concerned and offered to come over, but Zhou Quan insisted on being alone. Ling Xunxun then went to confront Hui Yiwang. She questioned whether he truly loved Mo Yunyun or was simply trying to provoke Zhou Quan, pointing out their decade-long emotional game.

Hui Yiwang attempted to explain the complexity of the situation, describing Mo Yunyun’s recent, grueling eight-hour operation in England and how she was "like a walking dead" afterward, relying on him. Ling Xunxun retorted that he was protecting the "weak" Mo Yunyun but abandoning the "strong" Zhou Quan, who could restart her life without him. She accused him of playing "cat-and-mouse" with Zhou Quan, only offering her "bait" and expecting her to swallow her pride to pursue him.

Ling Xunxun's passionate words left Hui Yiwang ashamed, and Cheng Li later commented that Ling Xunxun was becoming more like Zhou Quan when angry. Hui Yiwang sent a text message to Zhou Quan, inviting her to witness his proposal to "a girl he likes," mentioning that Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li would also be there. Zhou Quan panicked, but Ling Xunxun reassured her, promising to be her "rock."

At the event, Zhou Quan grew increasingly uncomfortable watching Hui Yiwang constantly attend to Mo Yunyun. She attempted to leave, but Hui Yiwang stopped her, reminding her of their childhood pact to witness each other's happiness. To Zhou Quan's shock, Hui Yiwang then knelt before her, holding out a ring, and proposed to "her". Zhou Quan was stunned and slapped him, accusing him of being "crazy" and asking if everyone was making fun of her.

Hui Yiwang, stopping her from leaving, confessed he could no longer endure their ten years of "testing each other." He declared his desire to marry her and take her home, pleading for a chance. He explained that he had given her many signals over the years, but she had ignored him, dating other men, which felt like bullying him because of his feelings.

He openly admitted to being a "scheming man," asserting there was no shame in using schemes to pursue the woman he loved. He emphatically told her that she was the "last person" he wanted to be friends with, and that from now on, his friends, brothers, and women could only be her. After a long moment of tears, Zhou Quan passionately kissed Hui Yiwang.

Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li watched happily, revealing they had been aware of Hui Yiwang's surprise plan all along. Hui Yiwang later confirmed that the ring was always intended for Zhou Quan and thanked Cheng Li for helping him realize the joy of being pursued by the woman he loved. As they left, Zhou Quan playfully told Cheng Li he had to pay the bill because his "woman," Ling Xunxun, had conspired with Hui Yiwang to deceive her.

Episode 15 Recap

Ling Xunxun was overjoyed to witness Zhou Quan find happiness, though she playfully chastised Cheng Li for his part in the proposal's elaborate planning. Cheng Li dismissed her teasing, asserting that results were paramount, and then reaffirmed his commitment to providing Ling Xunxun with lasting happiness and a sense of security.

Ling Xunxun decided it was time to be transparent about her past, confessing that she had been a dependent housewife who lost her sense of self during her previous marriage. Her divorce had left her extremely insecure and sensitive; she even admitted to feeling suicidal after accidentally damaging Cheng Li's expensive car. She emphasized that his decision to take her in had been far more than just offering employment—it had been a lifeline.

Cheng Li reiterated his desire to offer her his heart and a home, aspiring to give her complete security. However, Ling Xunxun, having learned from her past, expressed that true security must come from within and cannot be granted by another person. She desired to grow stronger independently so that she could stand as an equal in their relationship, a sentiment that ironically caused Cheng Li to feel uncertain about when she would finally feel content.

Meanwhile, as Mo Yunyun prepared to depart, she playfully demanded Hui Yiwang fetch her coffee before sharing a heartfelt hug with Zhou Quan. She genuinely thanked Zhou Quan, acknowledging that despite Zhou Quan's blunt and sometimes harsh words, her intentions had always been for Mo Yunyun's well-being. Mo Yunyun also clarified that Hui Yiwang's consistent politeness and respectful distance had always served as a clear sign of his exclusive love for Zhou Quan.

Zhou Quan then confronted Mo Yunyun about her past interference, to which Mo Yunyun simply stated she felt she had no other choice, given Zhou Quan's self-professed lack of confidence. Mo Yunyun concluded by explaining that Hui Yiwang had specifically requested her presence at the proposal so that Zhou Quan could experience a heightened sense of triumph. Before leaving, Mo Yunyun offered Zhou Quan advice on negotiating with her ex-husband and prioritizing her own self-protection.

With their past resolved, Zhou Quan and Mo Yunyun parted as friends, and Zhou Quan and Hui Yiwang headed home together. Ling Xunxun's suspicions were aroused when she noticed an elderly woman drop a medical record card. She followed the woman to a hospital, where she found her attending to a patient named Gao Wei. Later, Ling Xunxun observed Cheng Li's mother meeting this same elderly woman, who was Gao Wei's mother.

Intrigued, Ling Xunxun asked Cheng Li if he remembered a classmate named Gao Wei, but he had no recollection. Using an excuse to leave, Ling Xunxun searched through old school records and discovered a class photo confirming that Cheng Li and Gao Wei had indeed been classmates. Cheng Li's mother, aware of Ling Xunxun's investigation, advised her to drop the matter, suggesting that knowing too much could lead to painful consequences for both Ling Xunxun and Cheng Li.

However, Ling Xunxun firmly countered, arguing that Cheng Li was an adult capable of facing the truth, and that understanding the past was crucial for their shared future. Pressed by Ling Xunxun's resolve, Cheng Li's mother then revealed a startling detail: she had met Ling Xunxun ten years prior, just before her college entrance examination. In the meantime, Cheng Li arranged for Mike to take Bao Xiaojing to a business meeting.

Bao Xiaojing, taking the opportunity, confessed her feelings to Mike, even holding his hand. Mike, however, bluntly rejected her, stating they weren't suitable and that he didn't love her, specifically expressing a dislike for 'plastic-surgery faces.' This hurtful rejection left Bao Xiaojing's smile frozen, and she questioned Mike's discrimination against women who choose cosmetic procedures, comparing it to the discrimination he himself faced as a straight man in the beauty industry.

Driven by her discoveries, Ling Xunxun asked her mother to send her childhood diary. Upon reading it, she uncovered a shocking revelation: ten years ago, she had rescued two injured boys, Cheng Li and Gao Wei, from a cave. She realized that Cheng Li was likely the boy she had physically carried to safety, and Gao Wei was the patient now in a persistent vegetative state.

This newfound knowledge left her bewildered as to why Cheng Li's mother would choose to conceal the truth, even if it meant Cheng Li continued to suffer from his condition. That evening, Cheng Li visited Ling Xunxun, who hastily hid her diary. He embraced her warmly, expressing his wish to always care for her and hoping their parents could be at ease about their relationship.

He spoke of his belief in fate, asserting that if their love was predestined, they should face any future challenges together. Ling Xunxun, though preoccupied with her secret, agreed with his sentiments. The next day, Ling Xunxun called her father, who informed her that her mother had visited and was now unreachable, causing Ling Xunxun to panic. Cheng Li quickly reassured her, revealing that he had met Ling Xunxun's mother and arranged a hotel room for her stay.

He recounted their conversation: Ling Xunxun's mother had questioned him about the timeline of his relationship with Ling Xunxun—whether it began before or after her divorce—and if he was aware of DuDu. Cheng Li confirmed their relationship started after the divorce and assured her that DuDu was not an obstacle. Ling Xunxun's mother then requested that Cheng Li keep her visit a secret, wanting Ling Xunxun to disclose her divorce to her family when she felt ready.

She made it clear she did not approve of their relationship, instructing them to manage their own affairs. Later, Ling Xunxun, reflecting on her mother's visit, expressed remorse for her own tendency to hide and avoid difficult truths, acknowledging that all issues eventually demand to be confronted. Determined to piece together the full story, Ling Xunxun met with Gao Wei's mother.

She introduced herself as Cheng Li's assistant and revealed she was the senior who had rescued both boys from the cave a decade ago. Gao Wei's mother then recounted the events: Cheng Li, a new transfer student, had been frequently bullied by Gao Wei. This rivalry led to a dangerous dare where they entered a cave notorious for its hazards.

While Cheng Li suffered a concussion, Gao Wei was found severely injured with signs of being trampled, leading to his current comatose state. With the exact circumstances unclear and Cheng Li suffering from severe PTSD and memory loss, Cheng Li's mother took on full responsibility for Gao Wei's extensive medical care, requesting that Gao Wei's mother not reveal the truth to Cheng Li.

Cheng Li was subsequently sent abroad for treatment, not to help him remember, but for him to forget the traumatic event entirely. Gao Wei's mother confessed her conflicted emotions; she resented Cheng Li's mother, suspecting Cheng Li might have harmed her son, yet she also sympathized with her, having witnessed Cheng Li's mother's immense struggles after her husband's death and dealing with his extramarital affairs, all while working tirelessly to cover both boys' medical expenses.

Despite Cheng Li's mother paying far more than any potential legal compensation, Gao Wei's mother felt her son still deserved a clear conclusion to the incident. Ling Xunxun then confronted Cheng Li's mother, explaining her intent to tell Cheng Li the truth and allow him to choose his path. Cheng Li's mother, burdened by the decade-long secret, acknowledged Ling Xunxun as Cheng Li's savior and admitted her family's profound debt to her.

However, she cautioned Ling Xunxun that Cheng Li's subconscious mind had likely been avoiding the truth, fearing its implications. She warned that if Ling Xunxun forced the truth upon him, it could potentially end their relationship, likening it to how Cheng Li had pushed away Jin Hui, who had known him at his most vulnerable. In company news, a new receptionist had been hired, and Bao Xiaojing had resigned.

Later that evening, while Ling Xunxun was showering, Cheng Li attempted to open her laptop to stream a movie. He inadvertently came across an old class photo of himself and Gao Wei, finally catching a glimpse of the hidden past.

Episode 16 (Ending) Recap

After Cheng Li discovered the photo of himself and Gao Wei from their childhood, Ling Xunxun revealed everything she knew about the past accident. While Cheng Li admitted he was scared to remember, Ling Xunxun reassured him, stating that Gao Wei's mother, who had been waiting for a conclusion, didn't seek blame but closure.

Ling Xunxun emphasized that no matter the truth, whether Cheng Li had inadvertently harmed his friend or not, she would stand by him, even if it meant he would spend a lifetime making amends to Gao Wei and caring for his mother. Cheng Li then visited Gao Wei in the hospital, accompanied by Ling Xunxun. Gao Wei's mother was overcome with emotion upon seeing him, expressing relief that after ten years, the two boys finally met again.

She implored Gao Wei to wake up if he loved her. Gao Wei's fingers twitched, a significant sign. The doctor confirmed brain movement, indicating progress. Cheng Li, deeply apologetic to Gao Wei's mother, promised to remember everything and make every possible reparation, regardless of the accident's cause. Gao Wei's mother, in turn, urged him to live a full life, carrying the hopes of both himself and Gao Wei.

Cheng Li confided in Ling Xunxun the immense, indescribable pain of carrying the burden of a life, finally understanding why his own mother had chosen to let him misunderstand rather than reveal the truth. Cheng Li then took Ling Xunxun to his mother's house, a place he hadn't visited often since returning from abroad. While Ling Xunxun helped the housekeeper, Auntie Du, prepare dinner, Cheng Li joined his mother and Uncle Wen for a game of mahjong.

Uncle Wen, whom Cheng Li had started calling "Dad," had been secretly caring for Cheng Li's mother for years, having once been a university professor who posed as a housekeeper. Uncle Wen shared that he was terminally ill, with only about six months left, finding solace in mahjong over medication. Cheng Li thanked Uncle Wen for his years of care, prompting Uncle Wen to clarify that his dedication was out of love for Cheng Li's mother.

Cheng Li playfully confronted his mother, revealing he had uncovered her past secrets, having learned her "tricks" as her son. To acknowledge their enduring relationship, Cheng Li presented his mother and Uncle Wen with a "Platinum Travel Shoot" package to Switzerland for wedding photos, emphasizing that they should finally have a proper title after so many years. He also arranged a trip to Europe with a local guide for Ling Xunxun's parents.

Ling Xunxun called her mother, expressing that she was finally ready to have an honest conversation. Meanwhile, Mike discovered a handmade mask on his desk, a nostalgic memento from his first online fan, a young girl named Coco from California. This fan, later known as Bao Xiaojing, had suffered from a congenital cleft lip and severe self-consciousness. Mike, an online makeup artist, had previously encouraged her, emphasizing inner beauty and confidence, and even sent her cosmetics and a makeup manual.

After undergoing corrective surgery and returning to China, Bao Xiaojing sought out Mike and, despite her overseas education, insisted on working at Cheng Li's company as a front desk clerk to be near him. Mike later found her at her home, discovering she had been in China all along, having lied about remaining in the US. He apologized for his past harsh comments about her plastic surgery.

Bao Xiaojing, still deeply fond of him, bravely confessed her feelings for him for a third time, asserting her determination. Despite Mike's initial hesitation regarding her family's wealth and his fear of meeting her father, she affectionately coaxes him into going home to meet her parents, undeterred by his past pursuit of Ling Xunxun or his flamboyant personality. To fully uncover the truth of the accident, Ling Xunxun took Cheng Li to a hypnotist.

Ling Xunxun waited outside while Cheng Li entered a trance, reliving the moment ten years ago when he and Gao Wei explored a dark, humid cave. In his memory, he and Gao Wei playfully dared each other to go deeper until startled by bats, causing them to panic and crash into a rock while fleeing.

During the hypnosis, Cheng Li had a vivid flash of a young Ling Xunxun, realizing she was the one who found them and called for help. Waking up, Cheng Li tearfully thanked Ling Xunxun for saving him, confirming that the incident was indeed an accident, and he hadn't intentionally harmed Gao Wei.

Overwhelmed with relief, he visited Gao Wei again, expressing his joy that he was not responsible for the injury and pledging to care for Gao Wei and his mother. He also thanked his own mother for her unwavering protection over the years. Ling Xunxun's marketing genius shone when Hui Yiwang and Zhou Quan returned with news of their product spokesperson, Jin Hui, who was rumored to be pregnant due to weight gain.

Cheng Li confronted Jin Hui, who revealed her emotional eating due to her boyfriend Wang Dong being on a mission. Jin Hui publicly addressed the rumors in a livestream, denying pregnancy and attributing her weight gain to stress and endocrine issues. Ling Xunxun immediately seized the opportunity, utilizing Mike's internet marketing resources to turn the scandal into a successful promotional campaign. The strategy significantly boosted sales, earning Ling Xunxun Cheng Li's enthusiastic praise.

To help Cheng Li experience the youth he missed, Ling Xunxun donned a school uniform and convinced him to do the same. They spent a joyful day at a school, reliving youthful moments, and later visited a local restaurant Ling Xunxun frequented in her student days. She shared a fond memory of the owner letting her and Zhou Quan pay later when they were short on cash.

The owner's compliment on Cheng Li's handsomeness delighted Ling Xunxun, who felt her own youth was finally complete. Back at the company, their colleagues, noticing their bright demeanor, playfully demanded a treat, which Cheng Li happily provided. Hui Yiwang, stressed by wedding planning, complained to Cheng Li about Zhou Quan's changing demands, from wanting no wedding to insisting on a romantic outdoor ceremony.

Cheng Li, however, expressed envy, noting Ling Xunxun's tendency to avoid any talk of marriage, wishing she would also eagerly anticipate a wedding. At Hui Yiwang and Zhou Quan's wedding, as Cheng Li, the best man, was retrieving the rings, he accidentally pulled out his own engagement ring. Ling Xunxun, Hui Yiwang, and Zhou Quan shared a knowing smile. After the happy ceremony, Cheng Li knelt and proposed to Ling Xunxun.

While she professed her deep love for him, she declined the proposal, explaining that marriage is a worldly and complex commitment, not an impulse. Having recently escaped a failed marriage, she felt she needed more time to grow, become stronger, and find her independent value as "Ling Xunxun" before she could confidently accept his ring.

Cheng Li, understanding, pledged to wait for her, no matter how long it took, revealing that she had captured his attention from the very first time they met. Ling Xunxun later enrolled in an advanced course at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, attending classes on weekends. Cheng Li, ever smitten and protective, frequently followed her, playfully asserting his claim to ward off any potential admirers.
