Upon reuniting with Shi Dong, Shi Xia was filled with worry and immediately asked about his kidnapping. Shi Dong launched into a dramatic account of his ordeal, claiming "hypocrites" had resorted to "dirty" tactics. When Shi Xia pointed out he was supposedly kidnapped during the day, Shi Dong admitted he was just trying to "color up the atmosphere." He then described being covered with a linen cloth, dragged into a cave, and threatened by a vicious masked man.

Shi Xia, seeing he had lost a finger, became emotional, scolding him for not taking it seriously and remarking on his luck for only losing a finger. Shi Dong, on the verge of confessing his deception, instead claimed he held onto life specifically to see his sister again. His subordinate, Autumn Li, urged him to rest. Shi Dong’s self-directed act of being kidnapped was intended to damage Hou Chi's reputation.

His subordinate, Autumn Li, questioned the deception, suggesting it might be better to simply concede to Hou Chi. Shi Dong dismissed her, claiming he was merely afraid Shi Xia's panic would reveal his embarrassment, not that he was truly afraid of Hou Chi. Autumn Li then remarked that Shi Xia was merely a 'chess piece' against Hou Chi.

Shi Dong, however, maintained that he was doing it for Shi Xia's own good, to make her "understand the situation" and "mend her ways." Later that night, Shi Xia, alone, gazed at the night sky. She recalled her promise to Hou Chi to see him into the exam room. Despite their recent falling out, she resolved to fulfill this final commitment.

The preliminary test for the head of the Alliance began, but Hou Chi was nowhere to be found, causing Shi Xia considerable anxiety. She tried to tell the Yuhua Sect disciples where he was, but they dismissed her as a "demon girl" and refused to believe her, especially Yuan Gui, who was angry. One of the disciples, Qing Feng, vouched for Shi Xia, confirming he and Yi Yaogua had seen Hou Chi and Shi Xia together.

Shi Xia revealed Hou Chi was at The Great Hotel. There, Hou Chi was discovered unconscious, heavily intoxicated, and lying on the floor. Bi Hong was summoned but despite his efforts with acupuncture, Hou Chi remained unresponsive. Realizing time was running out, Bi Hong suggested that Yi Yaogua take Hou Chi's place. Yi Yaogua entered the Immortals Gate with Hou Chi's token, but his deception was quickly uncovered.

He was promptly expelled, and Hou Chi, for failing to arrive on time, was disqualified from the exam. Furthermore, the Yuhua Sect was banned from participating in the Alliance exams for three tournaments, a period of 600 years. Yuan Gui was furious at this news. Back at the Yuhua Sect, Yuan Zhao, the sect leader, personally tried to rouse Hou Chi but to no avail.

He declared that he would spare no one, especially Shi Xia, whom he held responsible, even vowing to eliminate her. Meanwhile, Yi Yaogua was being castigated for causing Hou Chi's disqualification. He protested his innocence, explaining he only acted out of good intentions at Bi Hong's suggestion, hoping to help Hou Chi pass the preliminary test. Yuan Zhao and his disciples then arrived at the inn, immediately ordering Shi Xia's capture.

Upon hearing Shi Xia was detained, Shi Dong rushed to the inn. He confronted Yuan Zhao and attempted to rescue Shi Xia, but Yuan Zhao swiftly defeated his guards. Realizing he was outmatched, Shi Dong urged Shi Xia to hold him tight so they could escape. However, Shi Xia refused, instead stepping forward to address both the Immortal and Devil Sects. She declared that the long-standing animosity between the two factions could not be resolved by violence alone.

Taking responsibility for Hou Chi's predicament, she offered to face a punishment for the Yuhua Sect. She demanded an audience with Shen Guan to secure a make-up qualification for Hou Chi. The Yuhua Sect disciples scoffed at her audacity, reminding her that no one had seen Shen Guan in 1,800 years and that the Dark Forest, the path to Wuwang God Palace, was impassable. They recounted tales of those who entered emerging disfigured or insane.

Despite the daunting warnings and her palpable fear, Shi Xia felt compelled to atone for her actions. She made a pact with Yuan Zhao: if she could successfully pass through the Dark Forest and secure a make-up qualification for Hou Chi, all past grievances between her and the Yuhua Sect would be erased.

She entrusted a message to the guardian of the entrance: if she didn't return, to tell the Devil Lord she was sorry, and to tell Hou Chi that she had "gone home." The guardian imparted a cryptic proverb: "No desire, no delusion. No delusion, no feeling," explaining it was the origin of Wuwang God Palace's name. Meanwhile, Autumn Li restrained Shi Dong, suggesting they wait for the Orthodox disciples to leave before secretly following Shi Xia into the Dark Forest.

Yuan Zhao, accepting this turn of events, declared that Hou Chi's future now rested on Shi Xia's success in the Dark Forest. Shi Xia ventured into the cave, and the darkness and strange noises terrified her. She huddled, recalling memories of past conversations with Hou Chi, including her confession of being a demon sect member and his promise to always protect her as a sister, as well as her own resolve to make amends for his predicament.

Gathering her courage, she stood and pressed on. Soon, she found an exit and emerged into a vast, silent forest filled with ancient trees, believing she had successfully passed the Dark Forest. As she walked cautiously, a figure suddenly appeared behind her, startling her and leaving her at a loss.
