The scheme of the Li brothers was publicly exposed, revealing that they had been manipulating public sympathy. The news spread rapidly, and Jialan was congratulated by her colleagues for securing the exclusive story. Jialan, however, found herself puzzled by the constant tension between Mu Shiming and He Zhengyu, who had known each other for many years.
Mu Shiming explained that his father, a law professor, naturally expected him to become a lawyer after graduation, but he knew he lacked both the talent and the interest for it. He Zhengyu, on the other hand, was determined to become a top lawyer and was exceptionally talented, making him seem like the ideal son in his father's eyes, while Mu Shiming felt like an unfilial one. After his confession, Mu Shiming downed his drink and promptly passed out.
Unsure of his address, Jialan had no choice but to take him back to her apartment. Mu Shiming woke up at 10:02 PM. Panicked, Jialan made an excuse that she needed to write a report and urged him to leave. However, after leaving, Mu Shiming returned for his forgotten phone. At exactly 10:06 PM, the apartment transformed, and He Zhengyu appeared in the kitchen, where an elaborate meal was now on the table.
Jialan awkwardly claimed she had prepared it for Mu Shiming. Annoyed, He Zhengyu deliberately made noise in the bathroom to get Mu Shiming's attention. When confronted, He Zhengyu threatened to reveal his presence, knowing Mu Shiming would assume they were living together. He used this leverage to blackmail Jialan into arranging a meeting with Wu Jirong from her time. Left with no choice, Jialan reluctantly agreed.
Once Mu Shiming had gone, Jialan immediately rescinded her promise, stating she wouldn't be blackmailed. Following advice on how to win over a woman, He Zhengyu tried to appease her by offering junk food, telling a terrible joke, and suggesting they share their deepest secrets, but Jialan was unimpressed. The next day, He Zhengyu again tried to visit Wu Jirong at the nursing home but was blocked by her brother, Wu Anwen.
He managed to leave a note for her with a nurse. Meanwhile, Li Ziqiang and other residents facing eviction began protesting again. Despite her colleagues' skepticism, Jialan investigated. Li Ziqiang revealed that Fei's Company had tried to force them into unfair agreements, offering less than half the promised compensation, and had even resorted to violence. He confessed that he had resorted to faking a more severe injury to extort money, driven by desperation over his wife’s urgent need for surgery.
Their only goal was to receive fair compensation, but they felt hopeless against a formidable lawyer like He Zhengyu. That evening, Jialan confronted He Zhengyu, calling him cold-blooded for helping Fei's Company. He Zhengyu defended himself, stating his duty as a lawyer is to his client, and proposed a bet: if he wins the case, she must help him meet Wu Jirong; if he loses, he will leave her apartment for good.
At a press conference, He Zhengyu, representing Fei's Company, made a shocking announcement: an internal investigation had revealed major violations by the demolition company they had hired, and Fei's was now suing them. Jialan, in attendance, was left speechless. Having won the bet, He Zhengyu learned from his contact that Jiang Shenghao was constantly drinking and trying to see Wu Jirong, while Chen Kexin was still missing. Jialan sought advice from her colleague Piaopiao about her dilemma.
Piaopiao reasoned that a proud and arrogant man like her friend wouldn't try to steal his friend's fiancée, especially after knowing her for over a decade, and that his intentions were likely pure. Convinced, Jialan decided to honor the bet. That night, however, she missed the 10:06 PM overlap because Mu Shiming had a sudden stomachache, and she had to rush out to buy him medicine.
She found herself locked out of her own apartment, while a worried He Zhengyu was trapped inside, both aware of the missed opportunity. The following evening, they finally met. He Zhengyu was pleased when Jialan agreed to arrange the meeting with Wu Jirong. In a good mood, he offered to fix a flickering light bulb. While standing on a stool, he lost his balance and fell, accidentally pinning Jialan underneath him. He then jokingly pretended to be electrocuted, but Jialan, unamused, told him to stop his antics.
