When Han Ruoxi confronted Lu Boyan about their contract marriage, stating she knew their marriage was by contract, she provocatively asked if they could still be together once the agreement ended. She remarked on Lu Boyan’s frequent interactions with Su Jianan, whom she described as a "fat girl selling underwear," and questioned if he truly wanted to be friends with her. Lu Boyan retorted that no one would want to befriend such a person.
Overhearing this exchange, Su Jianan felt a profound disappointment, as if a secret between them had been carelessly exposed. Her inner thoughts tormented her, calling her "stupid" for falling into this situation and for "coveting Lu Boyan's beauty." A voice within her urged her to "strictly fulfill the agreement" and "keep a safe distance" from Lu Boyan to avoid further self-torment. Lu Boyan was scheduled for a five-day business trip to Yong'an City.
Shen Yuechuan had already made all the arrangements for Lu Boyan, including flights and hotels. Lu Boyan then asked to add one more person to the trip: Su Jianan. However, upon returning home, Su Jianan treated him coldly, barely acknowledging him and speaking with excessive formality, as if to a stranger. Xu Bo noticed Mrs. Lu's unusual behavior, finding her unresponsive and distant.
Lu Boyan seemed puzzled by her change, but Xu Bo, attributing it to a woman's monthly discomfort, suggested preparing ginger and brown sugar water. Su Jianan, though, refused the drink, claiming she needed creative space for her novel and was not thirsty. Her resolve to "keep a distance" from Lu Boyan and to "never generate any emotion" for him solidified in her mind.
The following morning, as Lu Boyan departed, he looked back at the balcony of Su Jianan's room, but she remained hidden, only emerging to watch his car disappear once he was out of sight. In Yong'an City, Lu Boyan's meeting proved highly efficient, suggesting he might return within three days. Unexpectedly, Han Ruoxi also appeared in Yong'an for a magazine cover shoot. With Su Jianan absent, Han Ruoxi approached Lu Boyan, inviting him to dinner.
Lu Boyan reminded her that he thought she had already understood his intentions, making it clear he had rejected her advances before. Han Ruoxi, however, remained persistent, interpreting his past actions as mere "acting" and insisting they could be together after his contract marriage ended. Lu Boyan firmly stated that even if the contract expired, he would continue to be with Su Jianan, claiming they had been inseparable since childhood.
Back home, Su Jianan found her creative inspiration completely gone, unable to write any romantic plots. Chen Xuanxuan, the editor-in-chief, called to urge her for updates on her novel. Su Jianan admitted she had no ideas, to which Chen Xuanxuan responded with sarcasm, noting it wasn't the first time she had delayed a draft. Soon after, an entertainment news report popped up, showing an intimate photo of Han Ruoxi and Lu Boyan, which annoyed Su Jianan.
Luo Xiaoxi, sensing Su Jianan's unhappiness, discovered that Lu Boyan had openly disclosed his contract marriage to Han Ruoxi. Enraged, Luo Xiaoxi vowed to "smash his dog head" for hurting her friend. Su Jianan, however, dismissed it, reiterating that it was "just a contract marriage." To lift Su Jianan's spirits and help her find inspiration, Luo Xiaoxi suggested a trip, convincing a hesitant Su Jianan to go with her and Jiang Shaokai. They soon found themselves by the ocean.
Jiang Shaokai and Luo Xiaoxi bickered playfully, with Jiang Shaokai trying to lighten the mood for Su Jianan. They even buried Su Jianan in the sand, mimicking seaweed. As they relaxed on the beach, Su Jianan couldn't help but wonder what Lu Boyan was doing, and if he was with Han Ruoxi.
Jiang Shaokai attempted to impress Su Jianan, listing Lu Boyan's virtues while subtly downplaying himself, only for Luo Xiaoxi to chime in, adding more of Lu Boyan's appealing qualities. That night, as they sat under the stars, a shooting star streaked across the sky. Su Jianan, seizing the moment, made a wish aloud: "I hope Lu Boyan will never bother me!" The next day, the trio went hiking.
Jiang Shaokai playfully tried to scare the girls with a stick, pretending it was a snake. To their shock, a real snake appeared, and Jiang Shaokai was bitten. Luo Xiaoxi quickly called for an ambulance. Jiang Shaokai, ever the dramatist, feigned a severe injury, making a theatrical "will" where he asked Luo Xiaoxi to take care of two girls, Nana and Jiao Jiao, and even pay off his credit card debt.
At the hospital, the doctor confirmed it was not a poisonous snake and he was fine, just startled. Despite this, Jiang Shaokai exaggerated his discomfort, insisting on staying for observation and charming Su Jianan. He had food delivered and, feigning a "sore hand," asked Su Jianan to feed him, which she did. It was at this moment that Lu Boyan arrived.
Having received a vague message from Xu Bo that led him to believe Su Jianan was hurt and in the hospital, he rushed over, only to find Su Jianan feeding Jiang Shaokai. Lu Boyan confronted Su Jianan, demanding to know where she was hurt and ordering her to come home with him. Su Jianan retorted that she was fine and that her friends were none of his concern.
Lu Boyan then asked if she had forgotten her identity as Lu Taitai. Su Jianan, in turn, challenged him, asking who he was to order her around, accusing him of interfering in her life while he was out "having a good time." Lu Boyan, ignoring the public setting of the hospital, sternly commanded her to be home by nine o'clock.
Jiang Shaokai, still playing the invalid, insisted he was too "uncomfortable" to leave the hospital, wanting Su Jianan and Luo Xiaoxi to stay. Luo Xiaoxi, noticing Su Jianan's continued distress, decided to take her to a newly opened KTV to vent. Meanwhile, at home, Lu Boyan waited. At nine o'clock, with Su Jianan still absent, Xu Bo tried to reassure him, telling him that Mrs. Lu would definitely remember his words and would return.
He urged Lu Boyan to have confidence that Mrs. Lu would not leave him. Su Jianan, at the KTV, was indeed singing her heart out. Back at the hospital, Jiang Shaokai, still feigning fear of darkness, convinced Su Jianan to stay with him, happily dismissing "that big bad guy Lu Boyan." As the hours passed, Lu Boyan continued to wait by the door, his mind filled with the image of Su Jianan intimately feeding Jiang Shaokai, which greatly agitated him.
Xu Bo offered to call Mrs. Lu, but Lu Boyan told him to rest, choosing to wait himself. Finally, Su Jianan returned. Lu Boyan, visibly upset, immediately demanded to know why she was out so late with Jiang Shaokai, suggesting Jiang Shaokai needed her companionship. Su Jianan, provoked, repeated her earlier question, asking him who he was to dictate her actions, reinforcing the emotional distance she had deliberately created between them. As they began to exchange hurtful words, Lu Boyan, unwilling to hear more, suddenly cupped her face in his hands.
