Feeling upset after her argument with Lu Zhiyi, Tang Shuangli had lunch with He Qiaosheng, who encouraged her to eat her ribeye steak as if tearing apart Lu Zhiyi for revenge. He then asked to see her notebook, which she confirmed had been chewed by "Meatball," Lu Zhiyi's dog. Tang Shuangli explained that the girl drawn on the left side of the notebook was Lisa, her best friend, who had given her the book.
It contained many dreams they planned to achieve together, but now Tang Shuangli had to fulfill them alone. The serious, mustached man on the right was Ethan, her mentor at Hash, who inspired her to develop an app called "Shi Qu." This service app aimed to provide adults with low-age recreation options, inspired by Tang Shuangli's own experience of losing her childhood to a busy life and feeling unhappy, which prompted her return from America.
She was developing the app in memory of Lisa and to help others like herself, but Ethan's sudden passing had halted its development. Noticing the wear and tear on the notebook, He Qiaosheng offered to take Tang Shuangli to the place pictured in the book, prioritizing her happiness over his afternoon work. Tang Shuangli, hidden from view, watched him with a smile. The next morning, Tang Shuangli arrived at work carrying a cactus. She tried to subtly prod Lu Zhiyi for information by mentioning nougat and her past math Olympiad achievements, including winning first place.
However, Lu Zhiyi remained evasive and denied any childhood encounter with her. Tang Shuangli chose not to challenge his pretense. Gu Ling made a dramatic entrance at Tianzhuo. Zhao Mengdi, unfamiliar with her, attempted to block her path, but Jessica quickly intervened, greeting Gu Ling as "Ms. Gu," much to Zhao Mengdi's surprise. Gu Ling proceeded directly into Lu Zhiyi's office, where she received a cold reception.
Noticing an empty desk, which she knew was Tang Shuangli's, she pointedly asked Lu Zhiyi who sat there, but he ignored her. Gu Ling's gaze then fell upon the withered cactus she had given him long ago, neglected on the floor, and she expressed her sadness.
As Tang Shuangli entered the office with her own cactus, Gu Ling asserted her position, telling Tang Shuangli to take her cactus and leave, insisting that her own old, damaged cactus would remain as it was still alive. She declared she would repot it herself. Tang Shuangli, holding her cactus, left the office. At the front desk, Zhao Mengdi informed Tang Shuangli that Gu Ling was Lu Zhiyi's ex-girlfriend.
Zhao Mengdi, having just learned Gu Ling's identity from Jessica, expressed fear of retaliation. Jessica had advised Zhao Mengdi to align with Gu Ling, emphasizing that Gu Ling had returned to win Lu Zhiyi back, and instructed her to report Tang Shuangli's activities. Alone with Lu Zhiyi, Gu Ling tearfully confessed her regret for leaving him and going to America, asking for his forgiveness and a fresh start.
Lu Zhiyi, however, remained firm, stating that her decision to leave was her own and its consequences were hers to bear. He declared that their breakup was "a blessing in disguise" for him. Gu Ling then asked why he couldn't stand up for her as he used to. Lu Zhiyi reiterated that their past was over.
