Jiang Kan had meticulously decorated his home, filling it with a festive Christmas atmosphere. Ding Liaoliao was pleasantly surprised by the preparations. Jiang Kan pointed to the star at the top of the Christmas tree, explaining it was called the Star of Bethlehem, believed to light up the darkness in people's hearts and guide them to pursue their dreams and love. He suggested that on Christmas Day, she should personally hang it and make a wish.
Liaoliao excitedly climbed a ladder to place the star and made a wish. Just as she finished, the power suddenly went out, leaving only the Christmas tree sparkling in the dim room. As Liaoliao descended, Jiang Kan moved closer, and she, thinking he was about to kiss her, closed her eyes. Instead, he simply smiled and gently removed a small leaf from her hair, wishing her "Merry Christmas, Ding Liaoliao."
That night, Liaoliao had a vivid dream of Jiang Kan confessing his feelings. Waking up startled at only six in the morning, she felt completely overwhelmed by her emotions and fled to work early to avoid him. The next morning, Ding Man and Lian Geyao watched Jiang Kan from their apartment, teasing him.
Ding Man asked Jiang Kan to wake Liaoliao, but was informed she had already left for work at six in the morning—an unusual feat for the "non-famous lazy lady" Ding Liaoliao, suggesting something significant had happened. Ding Man speculated that Liaoliao might have developed feelings for Jiang Kan and left early to avoid the awkwardness. He then directly asked Jiang Kan about the elaborate Christmas decorations, hinting at his intentions for Liaoliao.
Ding Man encouraged Jiang Kan to be brave and face his feelings like a true man. Without hesitation, Jiang Kan openly admitted, "I like Ding Liaoliao." Overjoyed, Ding Man immediately started calling him "Brother-in-law." Meanwhile, at work, Liaoliao was catching up on sleep at her desk when her colleague, Hu Jiaying, woke her up, asking to talk. Hu Jiaying expressed her gratitude for Liaoliao's recent help and apologized for her previous resentment.
She confessed to being envious, having joined the station as the top-ranked candidate with good looks, yet feeling invisible as everyone seemed to favor Liaoliao. However, she now understood that Liaoliao was admired for her resilience and unwavering determination to excel in any task. Hu Jiaying concluded her remarks by teasing Liaoliao, saying that someone as naive as her probably had no idea that Jiang Kan liked her.
Later, at the research institute, Jiang Kan discreetly listened as Juzi gave Ren Yifan advice on pursuing girls, secretly noting down the "How To Pursue A Girl" essentials. Juzi emphasized three main points: first, thorough information gathering to anticipate any situation; second, constant and unconditional presence to provide a sense of companionship; and third, making the girl feel special and unique, like a "limited edition" item.
Soon after, Liaoliao's colleagues showed her Jiang Kan's social media post featuring a photo of her, leading them to believe he had fallen in love with her. Liaoliao confronted Jiang Kan, upset that the photo made her look overweight and demanding he delete it. Jiang Kan, apologetic, immediately removed the post. Later, he tried to fix Liaoliao's squeaky bed, explaining its quirks. Liaoliao suggested they buy a bigger bed, stating she likes to roll over in her sleep.
Jiang Kan quickly agreed, though his initial reaction indicated he might have misconstrued her suggestion. Subsequently, Jiang Kan apologized for his recent forwardness and for not considering her feelings, offering to treat her to dinner as an apology. Liaoliao happily accepted, secretly thrilled about the upcoming date. She dressed up specially for the occasion, though she wouldn't admit it.
During their barbecue dinner, Jiang Kan began discussing the harmful effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from grilled meat, but Liaoliao playfully cut him off, telling him to just enjoy the food. Not realizing, Liaoliao ordered the same drink as another table, which turned out to be grapefruit alcohol. Jiang Kan, having consumed too much, became visibly intoxicated. Liaoliao tried to wake him, but in his drunken state, he grabbed her and kissed her.
The next Saturday, which was Liaoliao's birthday, Ding Man and Lian Geyao took her camping to Mogan Mountain. Liaoliao was clearly distracted, saddened that Jiang Kan couldn't join them. Lian Geyao and Ding Man observed her wistful mood with knowing smiles. As night fell and Liaoliao watched the affectionate couple, she felt a wave of longing for Jiang Kan. She took photos and sent them to him, subtly suggesting he visit if his work concluded early.
Lian Geyao then asked Liaoliao to fetch the birthday cake from the car trunk. While on her way, Liaoliao received a location share from Jiang Kan. Following the coordinates, she was surprised to find Jiang Kan himself, walking towards her, holding her birthday cake. He wished her "Happy birthday."
