Golden House Hidden Love Episode 4 Recap
> Golden House Hidden Love Recap
Upon arriving at a company building displaying the name "Chuchen's live stream," Nan Hua experienced a fleeting sense of familiarity. Jin Xia, who works there, explained that she used to host a late-night emotional advice radio program but transitioned to live-stream sales last year, with the radio work becoming a side job. She offered Nan Hua her services if he ever needed to discuss emotional troubles. Later, Jin Xia accompanied Nan Hua for a fishing trip by the sea.
To get to know each other better as roommates, they decided to play a question-and-answer game. Nan Hua revealed he had lived in the ancient house for thousands of years but didn't remember the exact duration. He explained that in the past century, his spiritual energy had become insufficient, leading to frequent periods of hibernation and significant memory loss. His life depended on absorbing spiritual energy from the ancient cherry tree in the garden, which had been withering.
However, thanks to Jin Xia, the tree was recovering, and so were his abilities and memories. He didn't know why Jin Xia had this effect on him, theorizing that recovering more memories might provide clarity. Jin Xia then questioned why Nan Hua had spent energy helping Ms. Chen renovate her house and fix the welfare park, as spiritual energy was difficult to accumulate.
Nan Hua apologized for interfering with Jin Xia's original plans, admitting it was due to his selfish desire to preserve the area's ancient appearance. He hoped the person he was waiting for would recognize the place upon their return, confirming the design draft he had shown her depicted Taiping as it looked in the ancient past, and all his efforts to restore the area were for this reason.
Jin Xia found it hard to believe the person could return after thousands of years if they were a normal human, given that normal humans live little more than a century. Nan Hua vaguely recalled the person was an ordinary human, not an ancient being, but remembered they had returned several times, most recently about 70 or 80 years ago, asking him to wait. He then suggested that Jin Xia herself might be the person he had been waiting for.
Jin Xia was deeply moved by his thousand-year wait, marveling at the strength of their promise and the feeling of being chosen and waited for. As they successfully caught a large fish, Jin Xia mentioned growing up in a seaside fishing village.
She explained her decision to buy a house in Wangqi Town was partly due to the lower property prices compared to the city, but primarily for her own dignity after relying on renting for a period where she was financially tight. Back at the house, Jin Xia's landlady called, pushing her to go on a blind date.
The landlady insisted it was for her own good, reminding her that being single meant having no one to rely on and potentially dying alone, emphasizing its tragic nature. Despite Jin Xia's attempts to refuse, citing past unsuitable dates, the landlady was insistent, offering a favor in return for agreeing. Jin Xia reluctantly accepted, calling it the absolute last time. The blind date turned out to be Jin Xia's ex-boyfriend, whose mother was also present.
The mother was immediately critical, questioning Jin Xia about her income as a wedding dress designer ("a tailor"), her spending habits, and her ability to save money. She quickly steered the conversation towards marriage and having children, emphasizing the cost of raising a family like milk powder. Upon hearing that Jin Xia's parents were gone, she remarked "That's fine," implying her son would only need to support Jin Xia, which took Jin Xia aback.
The ex-boyfriend arrived late and casually excused his past cheating as merely "going through the motions," stating it's unavoidable for men. Jin Xia refused to discuss their past. He then became condescending, questioning her career aspirations and ability to succeed as a designer without connections, saying talent alone wasn't enough in a society that values relationships. Jin Xia stated she was content with her current situation and didn't aim to be a big name designer.
He persisted, questioning her monthly salary and her ability to afford a house or down payment in the city. When Jin Xia said she thought renting was fine, he scoffed that a rented place wasn't a home and accused her of putting on airs. He asked if her grandmother was still working odd jobs to help her save for a down payment, urging Jin Xia to stop worrying the elderly woman who had raised her alone.
Jin Xia retorted that she would buy a house and was saving, and rudely advised him to shut up and accumulate good karma for his family's elderly members, as her family was known for longevity and didn't need his concern. Offended, he called her crazy, said he hadn't wanted to date her anyway, and left with his mother.
Before leaving, Jin Xia ordered multiple expensive red wines for their table, instructing the server to open them all and put them on their bill. The landlady called Jin Xia afterwards, furious that the mother had complained about her "slaughtering" them with the bill, accusing Jin Xia of being difficult.
Jin Xia called the man "sick," but the landlady dismissed her concerns and announced she was raising the rent to 3,500 yuan from 3,000, claiming surrounding rents had increased and she'd planned to tell her after the date was successful, implying Jin Xia ruined it.
Upset, Jin Xia looked at house listings, reflecting on the difficulty of buying a home and her grandmother's efforts, acknowledging it was a common struggle but at least a goal, unlike Nan Hua's uncertain, thousand-year wait. She shared with Nan Hua that her parents had separated after she was born and she didn't remember them, explaining why having her own home was important.
She remarked that if she ever had a child, she would never abandon them, but then dismissed the idea as she intended to remain single and end up alone. Nan Hua gently told her she was too good and kind to end up alone and that someone would surely cherish her.
Upon their return to the ancient house in Taiping, they found the sorceress's son and two accomplices waiting outside, demanding payment for the failed exorcism and compensation for his mother's alleged injuries. Jin Xia initially wanted to handle it peacefully, deciding to talk to them herself despite Nan Hua's offer to intervene.
She refused to pay, calling the mother a fraud who had fled the previous day out of fear when her ritual didn't work, and asserted there were no ghosts in her house. The son grew aggressive, smashing her mobile phone and attempting to force his way into the house. Jin Xia tried to reason with him, offering to pay for the phone but not the exorbitant fee.
As the situation escalated and the men attacked, Nan Hua told Jin Xia to relax, explaining that he would possess her body and control her actions using his higher intellect and supernatural ability by invading her brain and manipulating her consciousness, describing it as based on scientific principles. Nan Hua, controlling Jin Xia's body, easily fought off and defeated the three large men, who were no match for him.
The sorceress arrived and pleaded with the seemingly possessed Jin Xia to spare her son. Nan Hua, still in control of Jin Xia, warned them not to use exorcism as a means to scam people again before telling them to leave. As they fled, Nan Hua apologized to Jin Xia for using his extraordinary energy after promising not to, explaining the sudden need. Jin Xia was left stunned by the experience and her broken phone.
Meanwhile, the sorceress and her son discussed the incident, the son wondering if Jin Xia was a policewoman due to her fighting skill, while the mother feared they had encountered a real ghost and that the house was indeed haunted, having initially thought Jin Xia was faking it to cause trouble.
Policeman Ding Yanhai arrived shortly after, having witnessed the scene and observing Jin Xia seemingly talking to thin air, and showed his badge before questioning the sorceress and her son about what happened. Adjusting to living together, Jin Xia, while taking a shower, expressed worry about Nan Hua using his abilities to pass through walls or spy on her.
To make her feel more comfortable, Nan Hua stayed in the living room, preparing food, and sang to her while she showered. Jin Xia found his singing soothing and reflected on her life feeling like a movie since meeting him. She eventually drifted to sleep in the bathtub, dreaming vividly of him. Later, Jin Xia mentioned having a toothache for several days, and Nan Hua offered to examine it, noting she had wisdom teeth.
