Girlfriend Episode 9 Recap
> Girlfriend Recap
Following Wen Xiaonuan's unexpected selection as the new film's female lead after falling into the water, Ye Feimo, seeing her drenched, expressed deep concern, quickly covering her with a bath towel to ward off the cold. In front of everyone, he not only kissed her but also carried her away princess-style, making his romantic gestures the envy of all present.
He asked if she was hurt and reminded her not to care about what others thought, reiterating his faith in her and telling her to remember to talk to him. When Wen Xiaonuan questioned why he had kissed her, Ye Feimo declared he was kissing his fiancée and saw nothing wrong with it. Wen Xiaonuan retorted that she was not his fiancée, to which Ye Feimo insisted he was helping her out, calling her ungrateful.
Despite her shock, Wen Xiaonuan thanked him. He then advised her to change her clothes and mind her words and behavior, cautioning her not to bring shame on Anning. Jiang Fang entered the resting room, showing concern for Wen Xiaonuan after hearing about her fall into the water. He offered her ginger tea, which she rejected, stating she didn't want it.
Jiang Fang showed her a brooch he was wearing, which she had given him, remarking how well it suited him because she understood him best. He then questioned if she truly hated him and urged Wen Xiaonuan to leave Ye Feimo, warning that Ye Feimo, like many other wealthy individuals, would eventually hurt her and move on from their relationship, leaving her unable to cope.
Wen Xiaonuan firmly told him it was her choice and not his concern, stating that Ye Feimo was different from him. Just then, Ye Feimo entered the room and confronted Jiang Fang, remarking that he had been talking to his fiancée and wondering how Miss Jiang (Ling'er) would feel about it. Ye Feimo then turned to Wen Xiaonuan, asking if she enjoyed chatting with her ex-boyfriend.
Wen Xiaonuan started to explain that Jiang Fang had approached her, but Ye Feimo cut her off, stating he didn't want to hear it. He warned her not to forget how Jiang Fang had treated her before, telling her not to invite further humiliation and continuously saying hurtful things in anger. When Wen Xiaonuan demanded he clarify his words, Ye Feimo pressed her about the brooch, suggesting she had given it back to Jiang Fang.
Wen Xiaonuan confirmed she had given it to him, then asserted that the brooch was hers, and she was free to give it to whomever she pleased. Ye Feimo then accused her of wanting to reconcile with Jiang Fang, reminding her that he now had a girlfriend and advising her not to interfere in other people's relationships.
Angered, Wen Xiaonuan retorted that yes, that was how he saw her, and she defiantly declared that she did want to get back with Jiang Fang and still loved him, regardless of whether he had a girlfriend. Meanwhile, Wang Jiayi faced a crisis with her agent after offending Mr. Xu, the heir of Shengtian Media. Her agent desperately scolded her for jeopardizing their future collaborations, reminding Jiayi of her place and threatening her.
The agent tried to drag Jiayi to apologize to Mr. Xu, but Jiayi refused, asserting that Mr. Xu had harassed her first and she had nothing to apologize for. Mr. Xu, in turn, told Jiayi he didn't need an apology but suggested they go to a "good place" to talk, and then threatened her. Prompted by Jiayi's defiance, the agent gave up on Jiayi, telling her she was on her own, and abandoned her.
After the heated argument, deeply hurt, Wen Xiaonuan angrily returned home and packed her belongings. Ye Feimo rushed home to an empty house, her room meticulously cleaned and devoid of her presence. He tried calling and messaging her, but her number was unreachable, and his messages were blocked. He desperately searched for her at their first meeting place and then her favorite park, but she was nowhere to be found.
Overwhelmed by disappointment, Ye Feimo found himself back in the empty house, where memories of Wen Xiaonuan cooking and cleaning filled his mind. He saw her lively presence in every corner, but she was truly gone. Feeling lost, Wen Xiaonuan walked away alone. Later that night, Xiaogu, disguised as Director Li Can's driver, offered Wang Jiayi a ride from a secluded area where it was hard to get a cab.
Jiayi initially recognized him as a waiter from the party who had been circling her and grew suspicious, accusing him of tricking her into the car and threatening to call the police. Xiaogu quickly spun a fabricated tale, claiming to be an orphan who worked multiple jobs, including waiter and designated driver, to make a living.
He explained that Director Li had hired him to drive him home that night because his usual driver wasn't available, and he felt kind to offer Jiayi a ride. Director Li, feigning drunkenness in the back seat, confirmed Xiaogu's story. Feeling apologetic, Jiayi offered to pay Xiaogu for the ride, but he instead asked her to add him on WeChat, successfully gaining her contact information and feeling pleased with his cleverness.
Wen Xiaonuan, having seen a distress message from Jiayi about being stranded, went downstairs to wait for her. As Xiaogu dropped Jiayi off, he caught sight of Wen Xiaonuan, quickly rolled up his car window, and drove away to avoid being recognized. Wen Xiaonuan, though feeling low, didn't dwell on it. She and Jiayi went inside, and Wen Xiaonuan expressed her relief that Jiayi was safe.
Jiayi explained that Xiaogu, the waiter from the party, and Director Li had helped her get home, criticizing their company for leaving her stranded. Wen Xiaonuan had already prepared a room for Jiayi, happy to have her move back in and have company. Jiayi then asked Wen Xiaonuan if Ye Feimo had given her the "Rose Tears" necklace.
Wen Xiaonuan clarified that he had only lent it to her and, having left in a hurry, she planned to have Sister Xiaojing return it to him. When Jiayi asked if this meant she wouldn't see him again, Wen Xiaonuan explained that their contractual relationship was over, she had received her payment, and the theater was saved. She stated she just wanted her life to return to normal.
Jiayi then pressed her, asking if she had truly gotten over Jiang Fang. Wen Xiaonuan confirmed that Jiang Fang was "history" to her. Jiayi pointed out Wen Xiaonuan's clear answer about Jiang Fang contrasted with her avoidance when asked about Ye Feimo, questioning what was truly on her mind. Wen Xiaonuan insisted their relationship was just "acting according to the script," dismissing the idea of real feelings, though she admitted to being "touched sometimes" because she was "inhabiting the role."
When Jiayi questioned if Ye Feimo was also merely inhabiting a role, Wen Xiaonuan admitted she didn't know. Despite trying to put her thoughts aside and pack, Wen Xiaonuan struggled with how to return the "Rose Tears" necklace without making it awkward or implying she wanted an excuse to see him. She considered leaving it at the reception or asking him to send someone to pick it up, but worried about a personal encounter.
As she drifted to sleep, Ye Feimo was still wide awake, his mind replaying Wen Xiaonuan's defiant declaration that she loved Jiang Fang and wanted to reconcile with him. Meanwhile, Jiang Fang contacted Han Hui to discuss the film "Blue Sky Galaxy," aiming to help Yaohua surpass Anning in the industry.
The next day, Wen Xiaonuan met with Sister Xiaojing, who thanked her for perfectly fulfilling her contractual obligations and, on behalf of Miss Cheng, presented her with one million as promised. Wen Xiaonuan expressed her gratitude, and Sister Xiaojing complimented her overall potential, inviting her to consider a career as a professional actress. Wen Xiaonuan thanked her but said she had no such plans at the moment.
Before leaving, Wen Xiaonuan asked Sister Xiaojing to return the "Rose Tears" necklace to Ye Feimo. Sister Xiaojing then revealed the necklace's profound significance: it was extremely important to Ye Feimo, and in their company's view, only the true hostess of Anning Culture was qualified to wear it. Wen Xiaonuan, having been unaware of this, explained that Ye Feimo had only lent it to her to complement him.
Given its true meaning, she felt even more strongly that it had to be returned, reiterating that their relationship was merely a contractual one. Sister Xiaojing pressed her on whether she was truly sure it was only a contractual relationship. Wen Xiaonuan acknowledged Ye Feimo was a good person from whom she had learned much, especially his advice not to be overly emotional. Although she truly liked the necklace, she concluded that "Cinderella always has to return to reality." Sister Xiaojing accepted the necklace back on behalf of Anning, and Wen Xiaonuan bid her farewell.
