General's Lady Episode 9 Recap
> General's Lady Recap
Xiao Su reported to the Emperor, confirming that General Chu Xiuming was loyal to the nation and had no intention of rebelling. He suggested that the rumors were likely the work of a schemer within the court. The Emperor ordered a secret investigation and instructed Xiao Su to return to Chu Xiuming's side to protect him.
Since Xiao Su's identity had been exposed during his mission, the Emperor agreed to help him assume a new, covert identity by faking his death. Later, Chu Xiuming received a message from Xiao Su, confirming the success of their plan. He confronted a captured spy, but the man committed suicide by poison before revealing his mastermind. Meanwhile, the imperial court received news that the Eagle tribe, a long-standing enemy at the border, was seeking peace.
The Emperor was overjoyed, but a censor voiced suspicion, pointing out the odd timing. Count Yongning had fought the Eagles for years without progress, yet they surrendered just days after Chu Xiuming's arrival as the new supervisor. The Emperor, weary of the argument, permitted an investigation. At Count Yongning’s Mansion, the Vice General arrived with an urgent report for Chu Xiuming.
Shen Jin politely excused herself but paused outside the door, where she overheard them discussing an order from the Emperor for Xiao Su’s execution and the need to handle "that corpse." She then heard Chu Xiuming say he would go to collect Xiao Su himself that night. Misunderstanding the conversation, Shen Jin was heartbroken, believing Xiao Su was dead.
She assumed Chu Xiuming was hiding the truth to spare her feelings and resolved to conceal her own grief to avoid worrying him. Deeply troubled, Shen Jin encountered a cheerful Meaty reminiscing about Xiao Su with Mammy Qingqiu. Meaty fondly recalled Xiao Su's shyness and good physique, leaving Shen Jin to wrestle with whether to tell her friend the terrible news. Elsewhere, Xiao Cong, who admired the Vice General, presented him with a warm garment she had painstakingly made.
The Vice General misunderstood her intentions, and after trying it on and finding it too large, he gave it to Leopard Head. Believing the garment was a personal gift from Xiao Cong, Leopard Head was ecstatic and vowed to wear it always. That evening, Shen Jin had no appetite.
Meaty joined her and recounted their childhood, explaining how she used to eat Shen Jin's leftovers to spare her from hardship, often getting punished for it, and then secretly giving the rest to Xiao Su on the streets. She proudly credited herself for Xiao Su’s strong build and confessed her lifelong dream of marrying him. Hearing this, Shen Jin could no longer hold back her sorrow and tearfully told Meaty that she might not be able to marry Xiao Su.
Devastated, Meaty began to frantically stuff her face with food, trying to fill the void of her grief. Believing Xiao Su was dead, the two grief-stricken women got drunk on the mansion rooftop to mourn. As they teetered on the edge, about to fall, Chu Xiuming and Xiao Su arrived below. As it turned out, Xiao Su's "death" was a ruse, part of a counter-espionage plan to give him a new identity.
Having just returned from their mission, the two men used their agility to catch their respective women in their arms. With the misunderstanding cleared, Chu Xiuming told Shen Jin he would never leave her side, while Xiao Su assured Meaty he would live a good life. Later, Chu Xiuming jokingly offered to write a pledge to never behave as he did in the past, a playful nod to the time he had given Shen Jin a letter of divorce.
The next morning, Shen Jin giggled foolishly while Meaty apologized for their drunken behavior. Relieved, Shen Jin expressed her happiness that Meaty and Xiao Su's relationship had grown stronger. Meaty playfully teased Shen Jin about her own marital status, reminding her that she had "divorced" the General. Shen Jin clarified that she had only scribbled the word "divorce" on a piece of paper in anger, so it was not a valid letter of divorce.
Later, the Eagle tribe’s general arrived at the military camp to formalize peace. During a display of martial arts, a warrior attacked Chu Xiuming with a curved sword. The "Demon General" swiftly disarmed and wounded the attacker, who was revealed to be Princess Maya, the Eagle leader’s daughter, who claimed she was only testing his skills. Since he had injured her, Chu Xiuming arranged for her to recover at his mansion.
When Shen Jin returned home, she found Maya wearing her clothes and calling her "sister." Shen Jin furiously rejected the title. When Maya tried to take the blame for the situation, it only angered Shen Jin further. Seeing the tension, Chu Xiuming swept Shen Jin into his arms and carried her outside, finding her jealousy endearing. That evening, Maya challenged Chu Xiuming to a sparring session that appeared intimate, prompting Shen Jin to intervene.
She then insisted Chu Xiuming return to the military camp, arguing that a general should not be distracted by romantic entanglements. The next day, Shen Jin accompanied Maya shopping instead of letting Chu Xiuming go. At the market, Maya bought several items, including a hairpin she claimed was a perfect match for Shen Jin's attire. Seeing through Maya’s attempts to win her over, Shen Jin suggested they go for a drink, planning to get the princess drunk and extract information.
Though Maya initially claimed she wasn't allowed to drink, she quickly became intoxicated and loudly declared that she would happily become a concubine for any man she liked, regardless of his status. The next morning, Shen Jin awoke with a severe hangover, only to find that Maya was perfectly fine and had already gone to the morning market.
