In 2006, Yang Chuang struggled to get an MP4 player working to show Gao Xiaoai a Mayday concert video in the projection room. Gao Xiaoai quickly recognized the video as one Yang Shiyi filmed and pressed Yang Chuang to tell her the truth. After a moment of hesitation, Yang Chuang admitted he got the video to cheer Gao Xiaoai up, as she was upset that Xia Wenxi couldn't attend the concert.
He confessed that he had specifically asked someone to delete all footage of Yang Shiyi from the video. Yang Chuang then felt something was wrong; with so many concert videos, how did Gao Xiaoai know with just one glance that it was Yang Shiyi's video? Gao Xiaoai, realizing she was exposed, revealed her own secret: she had already seen the video, having secretly obtained it from Xie Zhenyu.
Yang Chuang then confessed his secret: he had created a fake QQ account to impersonate Ye Youning and get the video from Yang Shiyi, and now Yang Shiyi constantly messages him, mistaking him for Ye Youning. They secretly agreed to keep both secrets, vowing to "bury them in their stomachs" like the cracker they share. Gao Xiaoai reassured Yang Chuang she was not angry.
As the past timeline changed, the misunderstanding between future Gao Xiaoai and Yang Chuang was resolved, and they reconciled. Later, in 2019, Ye Youning, Xia Wenxi, Yang Chuang, and Gao Xiaoai shared a meal. Ye Youning reminded Xia Wenxi that he owed her a drink, but Xia Wenxi demanded an explanation for his absence the previous night. Unable to provide one, Ye Youning tried to apologize by sending Xia Wenxi gifts of fruit and a green plant.
However, Xia Wenxi discovered that his assistant was making the deliveries, and the assistant stated that he typically handled such "trivial matters" for Ye Youning. Feeling disappointed and concluding that Ye Youning only sees her as an old friend, Xia Wenxi rejected the next delivery. The following morning, Ye Youning attempted to stop Xia Wenxi as she leaves, but she was still upset and simply told him she's flying to Dalian before departing.
In 2006, Xia Wenxi received a letter from Mayday, which deeply moved her. Inspired, she declared her commitment to study hard and get into Jiangcheng University. While some classmates were skeptical, suggesting it was written by staff, Xia Wenxi was determined. She, along with Gao Xiaoai and Yang Chuang, makes wishes at a postbox for her academic success. Ye Youning remarks that wishing alone won't get her into college and suggests she find a study partner to improve her grades.
During class, the teacher announces an exciting study exchange program to 45 Forest Farm No. 3 High School for students ranking in the top thirty of the upcoming mock exam or those showing the greatest improvement in their grades. Ye Youning subtly encourages Xia Wenxi to aim for this opportunity. Driven by her newfound ambition, Xia Wenxi first approaches Ye Youning for help with a difficult problem, but he playfully tells her to "beg" him.
Annoyed, she turns to Ms. Zhao, earnestly vowing to change her ways and achieve admission to Jiangcheng University. As they discuss physics in the schoolyard, Xia Wenxi's father arrives on his bicycle, informing Lin Jiaqi that their nanny is on extended leave and he will be staying at the Xia family's house. Xia Wenxi is not pleased at the prospect of giving up her room for him. That evening, Ye Youning, observing Xia Wenxi and Lin Jiaqi studying together, feels a pang of jealousy and decides to join them.
Both boys offer to tutor Xia Wenxi, but their teaching methods quickly clash, leading to a heated discussion about whether to focus on foundational concepts or direct formula application. Xia Wenxi intercedes, reassuring them of her commitment and her determination to fulfill her promise to Mayday. They officially form "Xia Wenxi's Study Group."
Both Lin Jiaqi and Ye Youning present her with rigorous study plans, with schedules like waking at 5 AM and sleeping at 2 AM, which overwhelms Xia Wenxi. The next morning, Lin Jiaqi wakes her early for a biology session.
He explains that he and Ye Youning have collaborated on a revised study plan: Lin Jiaqi will be responsible for teaching her biology, Chinese, and chemistry in the mornings, while Ye Youning will cover mathematics, English, and physics in the evenings. Lin Jiaqi implements a strict reward and punishment system, offering a fried skewer for three consecutive correct answers but five squats for each wrong one. Meanwhile, Xia Wenxi's parents discuss the two boys helping their daughter, expressing concern about potential "puppy love" but also pride in Xia Wenxi's newfound dedication to her studies.
