Don't Leave After School Episode 21 Recap
> Don't Leave After School Recap
In Mr. Yin's office, Gu Shang and Mr. Yin discussed Gu Shang's application to Civil Aviation. Mr. Yin humorously pointed out that Gu Shang was already slacking off despite not yet being admitted, to which Gu Shang replied that he had always been that way.
Mr. Yin reminded him he was fortunate the school had a quota this year, as his scores wouldn't get him in otherwise, and emphasized that Civil Aviation was his only chance since Air China and the military weren't accepting re-enrolled students. Gu Shang confidently claimed that "there is always a way out" and that God looks after even students with bad scores.
Mr. Yin also inquired about the injury on Gu Shang's arm, which Gu Shang assured him was fine after being checked. Mr. Yin urged him to pass the medical exam this time. Meanwhile, in the dorm, Fang Xue informed Cheng Jing that Gu Shang might be admitted by Civil Aviation. Cheng Jing, still distant after their recent disagreement, initially feigned indifference.
However, upon hearing that Gu Shang had been sick for days and she was worried about his medical exam, she secretly pulled out medicine from her drawer and asked Fang Xue to deliver it to him. Fang Xue later gave the medicine to Gu Shang, teasing Cheng Jing as "all bark and no bite." Gu Shang expressed his wish for the two of them to talk face-to-face, but Fang Xue explained that their issues were complicated and would take time.
Gu Shang also shared his dream of becoming a pilot, specifically his desire for the freedom of flying and how cool it was, despite never having been on a plane. The day of the Civil Aviation medical exam arrived, and Gu Shang, waiting nervously, overheard a student complain about being disqualified due to a nearly invisible scar on his leg, further intensifying Gu Shang's anxiety. When it was his turn, Gu Shang awkwardly hesitated to take off his shirt.
The doctor, annoyed by his shyness, tried to help him, inadvertently revealing a large scar on Gu Shang's arm. The doctor noted it as a "serious problem," explaining the high pressure in the sky could tear the scar, posing a risk. Gu Shang, however, argued that it was a new scar and that the Civil Aviation guide didn't explicitly forbid scars.
He passionately pleaded his case, stating it would be unfair to disqualify him solely for the scar, given his excellent physical and mental health, which he believed surpassed any other candidate. He urged the doctor not to deprive him of his dream. Moved by Gu Shang's sincerity, the doctor agreed to reconsider and told him to await further news. Back at school, Wu Dameng found a dejected Gu Shang and asked what was wrong.
Gu Shang confided that he believed he might not pass the pilot recruitment due to the scar on his arm. Wu Dameng offered words of encouragement, assuring him he could make it. Later, while cleaning the classroom, Fang Xue discovered Qiao Mai's notebook and realized that Xue Hui had been threatening Qiao Mai. She discussed this with Wei Lai and Gu Shang, who connected it to Qiao Mai's previous strange behaviors, making the truth about Xue Hui's bullying clear.
The trio confronted Xue Hui, who, instead of being scared, arrogantly dismissed their accusations, claiming he was merely "helping her to clear the sin" for her cheating. He then declared he was going to find his "next servant" and walked away, unfazed. Gu Shang, frustrated by Xue Hui's dismissive attitude and unreasonable behavior, wanted to resort to violence, but Wei Lai cautioned him, reminding him that Director Lei was watching him.
Gu Shang, however, insisted he had a plan and told them to stay out of it. Later, Fang Xue and Wei Lai worried about Gu Shang's plan, wondering if he would do something reckless. Suddenly, Xue Hui's voice echoed from outside the window, repeatedly chanting, "I'm guilty." Pulling back the curtains, they saw Gu Shang forcing Xue Hui to apologize on the rooftop.
Gu Shang made Xue Hui confess to bullying Qiao Mai, making her do his laundry and socks, insulting her, and ultimately driving her to mental distress and withdrawal from school. Gu Shang warned Xue Hui that if he ever bullied anyone again, he would have other ways to deal with him.
When Gu Shang returned to the classroom, his classmates praised his effective method for dealing with Xue Hui, who they were told wouldn't be seen at Xiang Jiang Middle School again. However, before Gu Shang could bask in the glory, Mr. Yin summoned him to his office. Mr. Yin sternly chastised Gu Shang for his impulsive actions, stating that violence was not the best solution, especially at such a critical time for his pilot application.
Gu Shang, believing his admission hope was slim anyway due to his scar, responded defiantly. To Gu Shang's astonishment, Mr. Yin then produced an official admission notice, announcing that Gu Shang was the only student from their school to be accepted. Overwhelmed, Gu Shang hugged Mr. Yin in gratitude before joyfully rushing out. Back in class, Gu Shang found Fang Xue organizing a group to visit Qiao Mai.
Gu Shang insisted on joining, arguing that Qiao Mai was their classmate and it was important for boys to go along for safety, especially since she was far away. The group agreed, with Fang Xue promising to ask Mr. Yin for leave and a student suggesting they bring a gift. Gu Shang then proposed an idea for the surprise. At Xiang Jiang People's Hospital, Qiao Mai was surprised to see balloons rising outside her window, carrying messages of encouragement.
Her friends, including Gu Shang, Fang Xue, and Wei Lai, stood below, calling her name and shouting, "Qiao Mai, fighting! You are the best!" On their way back to school, Gu Shang and Cheng Jing lagged behind, chatting. Cheng Jing congratulated Gu Shang on his admission, noting he wouldn't have pressure for the upcoming exam. Gu Shang admitted he generally felt less pressure anyway. Upon reaching school, they noticed a crowd gathered around the bulletin board, gossiping about Cheng Jing.
Someone had posted derogatory information about her, including pictures, implying her mother worked in a disreputable club and labeling Cheng Jing a "dirty girl." Enraged, Gu Shang yelled at the onlookers, defending Cheng Jing and asserting the information was fake. Distressed, Cheng Jing quickly walked away, and Gu Shang followed.
Just then, Gu Shang received a phone call from Xue Hui, who taunted him about the photos and hinted at "something more exciting" planned for 10 PM at "Degenerate Street" behind the school. Gu Shang immediately went to the specified location, confronting Xue Hui. Xue Hui proudly admitted his scheme, revealing more photos, some of which were clearly photoshopped. He gloated that while Gu Shang knew they were fake, others wouldn't, and posting them online would make Cheng Jing "famous."
Gu Shang angrily warned Xue Hui, but Xue Hui continued to provoke him, claiming he was merely making Cheng Jing "clear Gu Shang's sins" and daring Gu Shang to hit him, knowing it would jeopardize Gu Shang's pilot admission. Xue Hui further taunted Gu Shang, suggesting Cheng Jing meant nothing compared to his personal ambition. Enraged, Gu Shang finally lost control and violently beat Xue Hui.
Just then, police officers, having been tipped off by Xue Hui, arrived and arrested Gu Shang. At the police station on Tian Huang No.2 Street, Gu Shang's father was called. Upon arriving and seeing his son, his father sternly declared, "I'm not your dad anymore," before hitting Gu Shang outside the station and driving away furiously. That night, Gu Shang returned to his classroom alone, packed his belongings, and carefully straightened Cheng Jing's tilted books on her desk before leaving.
The next day, the school announced Gu Shang's expulsion for repeatedly engaging in fights both on and off campus, as well as various disciplinary violations that caused a severe negative impact. In the dorm, Cheng Jing was deeply affected, losing her appetite and crying alone. That afternoon, Gu Shang walked out of the teaching building with his suitcase. Wu Dameng, having come to see him off, stopped him.
Gu Shang tried to send him back to class, assuring him they would meet again as friends. Wu Dameng, tearfully, thanked Gu Shang for helping him with his luggage when they first met, an act that was very important to him. He then asked for a hug, which Gu Shang readily gave. As Gu Shang continued to walk away, he found a paper airplane with a note from a classmate.
Soon, a flurry of paper airplanes descended, each carrying heartfelt messages and blessings from his classmates, who filled the windows, waving goodbye to him. Gu Shang looked up, returning their farewells before finally leaving the school.
