During an interview, Tang Xue, the second female lead, sarcastically commented on Xia Xiaoning’s dramatic entrance, insinuating that she was a big shot. As Tang Xue attempted to leave, reporters urged her to stay and expose the unfair treatment she allegedly faced. Hesitantly, Tang Xue claimed she couldn't speak freely for fear of offending the bosses, then “accidentally” let slip that both company executives were pursuing Xia Xiaoning, which the reporters eagerly noted down.
Following this, Yanran, the Director of Pineapple Radio, expressed deep gratitude to Gu Chenyu, one of the company's founders, for his long-standing support and guidance in her dubbing career. Reporters questioned the nature of her relationship with Gu Chenyu, hinting it was unusual. Yanran clarified that they were friends, more like family, and affirmed their focus remained on their dubbing careers, acknowledging the significant meaning this had for both of them. Next, Xia Xiaoning was called for her interview.
Onlookers openly remarked on her exaggerated makeup, to which Xia Xiaoning conceded it might be a bit much. She then introduced her role as Cheng Lu, the second female lead in "Lethe," and confirmed that her selection was an internal process within Pineapple Radio.
When pressed by reporters about rumors of her selection being due to high-level connections, especially given that she admitted her qualifications were shallow compared to professional voice teachers, Xia Xiaoning denied the claims, stating that Pineapple Radio's selection process was fair and just. She vowed to seize the opportunity and do her best. However, the reporters highlighted the contradiction in her being chosen despite her stated lack of experience.
Later, backstage, Xia Xiaoning confronted Tang Xue, asserting she earned her role through merit. Tang Xue retorted that people only believe what they want to believe, suggesting the world was full of ignorant spectators. She warned Xia Xiaoning that success gained through other means would not be as sweet as she imagined. As Xia Xiaoning became visibly upset, Gu Chenyu called her. Holding back her tears, Xia Xiaoning assured him the interview went smoothly.
Later, Xie Fei praised Secretary Jin Yao's performance and entrusted her with distributing a box of pineapples to employees, emphasizing that every piece must be eaten to honor his intentions as their boss. After work, Xie Fei drove Jin Yao partway, then revealed he had a private date and dropped her off. Jin Yao, suspicious, followed him.
She found him with a woman named Ren Xi, who was complaining that after being fired by Mr. Gu, she could only find a terrible job where her boss abused her. Ren Xi claimed Mr. Gu had misunderstood her and expressed deep affection for Xie Fei, who then excused himself to the restroom. Jin Yao seized the opportunity to approach Ren Xi, exposing Xie Fei as a fraud.
She revealed his company had long gone bankrupt, he owed millions, and his common trick was to claim he forgot his wallet, forcing others to pay for him. When Xie Fei returned, Ren Xi asked him to pay the bill, confirming Jin Yao’s warnings. Enraged, Ren Xi splashed water on Xie Fei, called him a liar, and left.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Gu Chenyu, dining with a business partner, politely declined an offer to be introduced to a woman, stating he already had a girlfriend and would be getting married soon. Back at Gu Chenyu's home, Xia Xiaoning fed his goldfish and saw numerous sticky notes from Gu Chenyu reminding her to eat well, sleep well, and informing her about snacks in the fridge.
The notes also mentioned that his goldfish were there to accompany her in his absence and reassured her that she wasn't alone and he would always be there for her. After feeding the fish, Xia Xiaoning realized she had forgotten her house keys and called Jin Yao.
Jin Yao, who was still persistently following Xie Fei in her car, refusing to let him get rid of her until he revealed his new address, told Xia Xiaoning she was busy with "reconnaissance" and couldn't come. After taking a shower, Xia Xiaoning heard a knock and opened the door to find Gu Chenyu's mother.
She nervously explained that she was only there to feed the goldfish because Gu Chenyu was on a business trip and that she had forgotten her keys and had nowhere else to go, hence the shower. Despite her explanations, she feared Gu Chenyu's mother had misunderstood the situation. Gu Chenyu's mother, however, later excitedly called "Old Gu," Gu Chenyu's father, to tell him that she had met their son’s girlfriend and found her quite cute.
After a long night of driving, Xie Fei finally stopped his car at the company parking lot, informing Jin Yao that she had fifteen minutes until work started. Jin Yao, exhausted, requested to go home and sleep, but Xie Fei denied her leave, warning her about absenteeism. However, as Jin Yao reluctantly exited the car, Xie Fei announced that as the boss, he decided to take the day off himself and drove home to sleep.
Later, Gu Chenyu called Xie Fei, instructing him to divert public attention from Xia Xiaoning, who was facing intense online scrutiny. Gu Chenyu asked Xie Fei to release news about "Lethe" and create a new trending topic about the male second lead candidates. He also requested Xie Fei grant Xia Xiaoning two days off to rest, but explicitly told him not to let her know that he was already aware of the situation, to spare her worry.
Xie Fei assured Gu Chenyu he would handle everything discreetly. When Xia Xiaoning arrived at the company, Jin Yao immediately pulled her aside and showed her the damaging news circulating on Weibo, including videos and screenshots, indicating a well-prepared attack aimed directly at her. Xia Xiaoning was shocked and felt it was a complete fabrication.
Xie Fei then arrived, confirming he knew about the online issues and had a counter-strategy, but insisted Xia Xiaoning take the day off as the company atmosphere was unsuitable for her. Despite Xia Xiaoning's hesitation about leaving when the problem stemmed from her, Jin Yao urged her to listen to Xie Fei, assuring her that they would handle everything. After handling a business meeting, Gu Chenyu made another call, instructing someone named Steven to investigate the situation.
