In 1997, before the Drug Enforcement Administration was established, the sudden outbreak of a drug crisis prompted the northeastern city of Halan to assemble an elite team. Each member had their own strengths, but they knew nothing about the new types of drugs. These young detectives not only had to face the ruthless drug cartels and their cunning smuggling methods but also had to endure the dilemmas of emotion versus law and the tests of justice versus humanity. On a certain night in 1997, close to midnight, a group of young people were reveling in a lively dance hall, dripping with sweat. Suddenly, the dance hall music came to an abrupt halt, Zheng Bei led the police team in a quiet infiltration. Unexpectedly, he was recognized by a drug user named Hao Zi, and immediately got into a fierce one-against-many fight, ultimately subduing all involved individuals and escorting them to custody after a brief interrogation.
On the other side, in Haran City, Northeast, it was forty minutes before midnight at Haran Railway Station. In a small car sat two bald men, who soon greeted a young man. Just forty-seven minutes later, the situation changed drastically: one bald man was desperately gripping the window ledge, about to fall from the building, while the other bald man was in a desperate struggle with the young man in the room, covered in injuries.
He was eventually stabbed multiple times by the young man and died. By the time Zheng Bei brought the people into custody, it was already late at night. The police station suddenly received a homicide report, and immediately drove to the Haran Northeast Iron and Glass Factory. Inside the dormitory building, it was a mess, with bloodstains all over the floor. A heavy smell of blood permeated the air.
Zheng Bei inspected the scene, confirming it was a vicious murder with the killer on the run, definitely not a minor case. At this moment, in Huazhou City, Guangdong Province, police academy student Gu Yiran was facing a life choice. Teacher Chen hoped he could stay at the school to teach after graduation, like his father. However, Gu Yiran had not yet made up his mind.
While he was hesitating, he unexpectedly discovered that his older sister Xiaoxiao had died tragically at home. Gu Yiran regretted not protecting his mother when he was young, and now failing to protect his sister. Zheng Bei quickly reported the case to Director Gao Linsheng.
After intensive discussion among the higher-level leaders, they deemed the case serious and decided to form a special task force, appointing Zheng Bei, who has rich experience in criminal investigation, as the captain. Zheng Bei believed that to form a special task force, having Zhao Xiaoguang alone was not enough; technical experts and skilled practitioners in combat needed to be introduced to strengthen their capabilities. Soon, the special task force welcomed its first member—Ding Guozhu.

Zheng Bei's disguise as a "lantern head" (a drug user) was exposed by Boss Xie, and Gu Yiran guessed that Zheng Bei was in danger, immediately leading people to rush over. Boss Xie opened fire and threw a grenade, but fortunately Zheng Bei hid in time and was not seriously injured. At this moment, the special task force arrived to provide support, and Boss Xie tried to take the opportunity to attack Gu Yiran.
Fortunately, Zheng Bei noticed in time and saved him, successfully capturing Boss Xie. After everything was settled, Zheng Bei bandaged himself up simply and was curious about how Gu Yiran had discovered that he had been exposed. Gu Yiran said that there were only zero times and countless times when it comes to drug use, and people who have been using drugs for many years would never refuse to take drugs as readily as Zheng Bei did.
Zheng Bei's view of him changed greatly after this incident. If they really encounter a large drug trafficking organization, they probably wouldn't understand it, so Gu Yiran is very important to the special task force. In the early morning, Gu Yiran heard Zheng Bei muttering in his dream, repeatedly saying the words "Lele", until the first light of dawn. At the critical moment, Jiang Xiaohai suddenly rushed out, disregarded his personal safety, and violently crashed into the man, successfully knocking him away, and without hesitation, picked up the little girl, Maomao. Meanwhile, Zheng Bei quickly stepped forward, subdued the man who had lost the ability to resist and pinned him to the ground, successfully averting the danger.
Episode 5 Recap
After the little girl Maomao was rescued, she tightly hugged Jiang Xiaohai and called out "Uncle". The man suddenly reacted, pulled out a dagger and lunged towards the little girl. Fortunately, Zheng Bei was quick-witted and immediately stepped forward to block. During the struggle, his arm was cut, leaving a bloody mark, and he finally subdued the assailant. Because of this, Zheng Bei knew the little girl was Jiang Xiaohai's niece.

Episode 6 Recap
Xin Tiegang was walking out with a large jar of pickled vegetables when he accidentally missed a step and fell to the ground, losing consciousness. He was immediately sent to the hospital. Through this incident, Gu Yiran learned the reason for Xin Tiegang's old leg injury. Back then, Xin Tiegang was on a mission with his partner and his apprentice Zheng Bei. On the way, their car hit two people riding motorcycles, and they noticed something unusual about them.
As expected, when the other party saw the police uniforms and hats in the car, they pulled out guns and shot at Xin Tiegang's partner, killing him instantly. Xin Tiegang was shot in the leg, while Zheng Bei rushed forward and subdued the two, but unfortunately, they were still unable to save the life of the sacrificed police officer. Now, Shou Hou and others killed Ah Liang.
Because the police were in hot pursuit, they couldn't find a chance to retrieve the goods. After Er Jin learned the situation, he personally came to Yifeng Taxi Company, entered a room, and respectfully called out "Boss" to the person sitting there. This person was none other than Qin Yi, the glass factory owner and Jiang Xiaohai's godfather.
Although Qin Yi appeared kind and amiable on the surface, running a glass factory and a car repair shop, he was actually a major distributor of the ecstasy pill "Red Dragon".
