Take My Brother Away Episode 14 Recap
> Take My Brother Away Recap
Zhen Kaixin represented Ordinary High School and made it to the Inter-School League Finals. Everyone supported him by putting up posters and having a cheerleading squad applaud for him. Shi Miao and Miao Miaomiao also made a celebratory cake for Zhen Kaixin. Meanwhile, Wan Sui was ordered by Shi Fen to transport the basketball team's support supplies. But Zhen Kaixin suddenly appeared before the gym teacher, crying and wailing that he didn't want to play basketball.
Shi Fen and Shi Miao were at home. Shi Miao kept speaking up for Zhen Kaixin, praising how amazing he was. Shi Fen, unconvinced, first belittled Zhen Kaixin for having a fatal flaw—choice paralysis—then bragged that only with his on-the-spot guidance could Zhen Kaixin deliver a god-like performance. On her way to school, Shi Miao saw Zhen Kaixin sitting dejectedly on a bench by the sea. She quickly tidied her hair and happily went over to him.
Learning that Zhen Kaixin was waiting for Shi Fen, she, worried he would be late, forced Zhen Kaixin onto her bike and gave him a ride to school. Shi Miao rode the bike at lightning speed, which almost made Zhen Kaixin throw up. Shi Fen received a letter in his school mailbox. Shi Miao worriedly told Shi Fen about Zhen Kaixin's concerning situation. In class, Shi Fen noticed something was off with Zhen Kaixin.
As soon as class ended, Zhen Kaixin grabbed his clothes and left. Shi Fen stopped him from behind, wanting to help him, but Zhen Kaixin shouted that he couldn't be helped and left in tears. Zhen Kaixin went to the sports stadium and, with tears in his eyes, lied that he was injured and couldn't play basketball anymore, only to be loudly scolded by the coach.
The coach picked the scrub Shi Fen to replace Zhen Kaixin as the small forward. Zhen Kaixin, with a tearful smile, said, "I'm counting on you," and left. At Zhen Kaixin's home, his mother tore up all the school sports newspapers, urging him to study hard and not to bother with anything unrelated to his studies.
Zhen Kaixin tried to argue back, but his mother demanded that he must quit the basketball team, or she would forcibly transfer him to a strict high school. Zhen Kaixin repeatedly told himself that he didn't like basketball. His mother then took Zhen Kaixin to a cram school, but no matter where Zhen Kaixin went or what time it was, he always saw things related to basketball.
Meanwhile, Shi Fen was at home thinking about Zhen Kaixin, and he burned the food he was cooking. Just then, Zhen Kaixin arrived at Shi Fen's house! Shi Fen could tell that Zhen Kaixin had run away from home. Out of loyalty, he took him out to eat and even promised to support him in the future. This moved Zhen Kaixin to tears. Just then, it was time for the supermarket's sale.
Shi Fen and Zhen Kaixin sprinted to the supermarket. Zhen Kaixin managed to grab some beef, but when Shi Fen shouted "Game-winning three-pointer!" , Zhen Kaixin's mind filled with thoughts of basketball, and he froze, allowing an old lady to snatch the beef away. In the evening, they had hot pot at Shi Fen's home, and the three of them played a game called "Never Have I Ever".
Shi Miao kept losing in the first round but made a comeback in the second. In the third round, it was Zhen Kaixin who lost. Zhen Kaixin's mother found her way to Shi Fen's house and demanded that Zhen Kaixin come home with her. Zhen Kaixin refused to leave but was forcibly dragged home by his mother. After Zhen Kaixin left, Shi Fen and Shi Miao suddenly felt sad.
Shi Miao felt envious of Zhen Kaixin, envious that he had a mother who cared for him. She wished she had a mother to care for her too. Shi Miao lay beside her brother and shed tears. Shi Fen knew and understood. He held his sister's hand, and the two of them gradually fell asleep. In Class 4 of the second year, Zhen Kaixin was moved to the front row, and Hao Ren was assigned to sit with Shi Fen.
Shi Fen was so angry he started tearing up paper. Hao Ren tattled on him, so Shi Fen kicked Hao Ren's chair, making him fall over. This made the whole class burst into laughter. After class, Shi Fen went to the teachers' office. The head teacher, Teacher Lu, was talking with Zhen Kaixin's mother. Zhen Kaixin's mother explained that there was a genetic trait in their family: as they get older, their ankles become increasingly fragile.
Upon hearing this, Teacher Lu, while agreeing to focus on Zhen Kaixin's studies, also believed that a child's hobby shouldn't be stifled, but she was refuted by Zhen Kaixin's mother. Zhen Kaixin couldn't reason with his mother. One wanted to persist with his hobby, and the other insisted on opposing it, so they got into a huge argument.
Shi Fen suddenly stepped forward and offered to cut off all contact with Zhen Kaixin as a condition for him not having to transfer schools. Zhen Kaixin and Shi Fen left the office. Shi Fen tried to persuade Zhen Kaixin that even in a tight spot, there are ways to manage. One can survive in a tight spot. However, Zhen Kaixin didn't understand Shi Fen's good intentions. He yelled that he had no options left.
Zhen Kaixin and Shi Fen got into a big fight. Both of them envied the other's happiness: one envied the happiness of not having anyone control him, while the other envied the happiness of having someone care for him. In the middle of the argument, the two of them fell down the stairs. This time, Zhen Kaixin was truly injured. The coach and his teammates were devastated when they heard the news.
Meanwhile, Shi Fen's position as a forward was mocked by the coach. Only then did Shi Fen realize that in the coach's eyes, he was just a tool to motivate Zhen Kaixin. A devastated Shi Fen thought about the mockery from others, both past and present. He shouted for everyone to listen, vowing to lead the Ordinary High School team to the championship, and if he failed, he would treat everyone to a thousand chicken legs!
The crowd, who had been about to leave, stopped in their tracks to watch Shi Fen's cool-looking shot. Tragically, the ball missed the basket. And at home, Shi Fen was chased around and scolded by Shi Miao. That night, Shi Fen lay in bed, melancholic, and couldn't help but wonder, when do people start to grow up? The answer is: when you need to make a choice, it means you have to grow up.
Because making a choice means giving something up, it means making a bet, and it means you could fail completely. But perhaps, the option that no one believes in is actually a new beginning.
