Sweet First Love Episode 5 Recap
> Sweet First Love Recap
As night fell, Su Muyun sped on his bicycle, taking Su Nianfeng to the hospital. On the way, Su Nianfeng noticed that one of his slippers had fallen off and pointed it out, but Su Muyun dismissed it and continued to accelerate. Upon reaching the hospital entrance, Su Nianfeng told him to park the bicycle and that she would text him the room number, then she rushed inside.
Su Nianfeng found Le Diyin's ward, discovering his father sitting on a chair outside. After greeting him, she asked about Le Diyin's condition. His father explained that Le Diyin had just been resuscitated and was still unconscious. He revealed that Le Diyin suffered from dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition so complex that all doctors advised against surgery, leaving only conservative treatment as an option. He shared that every day Le Diyin was alive was a blessing.
Su Nianfeng was stunned to learn about the severity of Le Diyin's illness, finally understanding why he never participated in PE classes, always seemed tired, and frequently took deep breaths. She recalled his father saying he had rarely made friends because of his condition and felt grateful that he had opened up since meeting her. Shortly after, Su Nianfeng texted Le Diyin's ward number to Su Muyun.
Su Muyun went to buy some porridge and, at the hospital entrance, received a delivery of slippers that Su Nianfeng had ordered for him. He quickly changed into them and entered the hospital. Just then, Le Diyin woke up. Su Nianfeng rushed to his side, asking about his well-being. When she asked if he had experienced such medical emergencies many times before, he calmly replied that doctors had given him a grim prognosis when he was just ten years old.
Su Nianfeng then confided her own secret: she suffered from a recurring nightmare, which medical books suggested was due to post-traumatic amnesia. This left her unable to recall her childhood or her biological parents, and with an irrational fear of cars. Driven by these unanswered questions, she expressed a strong desire to study medicine to unravel her past, lamenting that her dreams were grand but her grades were poor.
Unbeknownst to her, Su Muyun, who had briefly stepped out to call a nurse, overheard her entire confession from outside the room. Leaving the hospital, Su Muyun walked ahead, pushing his bicycle, while Su Nianfeng followed behind. She couldn't help but chuckle at the sight of him in the old-fashioned slippers she had bought, which looked comical and mismatched with his usual demeanor.
Su Muyun turned back, telling her to stop laughing, but she pulled out her phone to take photos. She playfully teased that even in such slippers, her brother exuded a Paris fashion show vibe and that she must have saved the galaxy to have such a handsome brother. Su Muyun retorted, asking if she had found her "long-lost aesthetic" in the hospital's garbage bin. Late that night, Su Muyun quietly entered Su Nianfeng's room.
He gazed at her seemingly sleeping face and softly murmured that in the past, he had only wanted her to focus on her studies without distractions, but he hadn't considered her feelings. He apologized and promised to fully support her in whatever she wished to pursue. He then quietly encouraged, "Zhuo Yifeng, keep it up. I believe in you." Su Nianfeng, who had been awake, gently opened her eyes and smiled sweetly after Su Muyun left the room.
Following this, Su Nianfeng dedicated herself to practicing recitation, making significant progress with Su Muyun's rigorous help. One day, Qin Yao surprised her with a microphone. Her excitement waned when she realized he had bought it for Qi Yuan, who was applying for a broadcasting major, and had simply brought one along for her as an afterthought. Feeling ordinary, she mused that Qin Yao was likely just a distant dream.
Later, she visited Le Diyin, who inquired about her preparations for the school anniversary program. Su Nianfeng sighed, hoping the school anniversary would quickly rescue her from her "devil" brother's "hellish" training. Le Diyin laughed, teasing that Su Muyun's intense help was because he liked her. Su Nianfeng immediately interjected that they were just siblings and excused herself. Watching her leave, Le Diyin quietly remarked to himself that since they weren't real siblings, there was nothing to be afraid of.
On the day of the school anniversary, Su Muyun vetoed Su Nianfeng's outfit choice, insisting she wear her school uniform for the performance. Later, in the makeup room, a teacher entered to announce that officials from the Ministry of Education were attending, so all students were instructed to remove their makeup and perform bare-faced. Amidst the commotion, Liu Zihui ironically commented on how she envied Su Nianfeng, as her "troublesome brother" had unknowingly prepared her for the sudden change.
Su Muyun arrived to check on Su Nianfeng and asked for a quick rehearsal, but she froze, unable to recall her lines. Panicked, she frantically searched for her script, realizing it was missing, as was Liu Zihui's. Called to the stage, Su Nianfeng faltered after the first few lines, and students began to murmur. In the sudden silence, with all eyes on her, she cast aside the need for a script and began to improvise.
She spoke about her own struggles with ordinary grades and self-doubt, then shared the inspiring story of her friend, Le Diyin, who bravely faced his illness despite receiving numerous grim prognoses since childhood, persevering because he believed in miracles. She concluded by referencing a movie quote her brother had shown her: "It is the underdogs who will achieve the impossible."
She asserted that adversity was not a hardship but a gift, and by courageously facing it, one could find a better self. Her impromptu speech deeply moved the audience. Despite her powerful performance, Su Nianfeng's first mock test results were far from ideal. Her teacher warned her she would just be a "denominator" in the college admission rate and that repeating a grade would be arduous.
Deeply frustrated, she mistakenly thought Su Muyun was mocking her when she overheard him say, "I knew he couldn't do it. Too weak!" She lashed out, feeling like a failure. Su Muyun tried to clarify he wasn't talking about her, but she was too upset to listen. Later, Le Diyin messaged her, thanking her for a video and asking to meet in the hospital's garden.
There, Le Diyin shared life-changing news: he was taking a leave of absence to go to the United States for treatment. Su Nianfeng was saddened by the thought of a long separation but wished him well. Le Diyin then expressed his profound gratitude for her speech, explaining it had given him immense encouragement. When she asked how he knew, he revealed that Su Muyun had sent him the video of her improvisation.
This revelation touched Su Nianfeng deeply, as she realized Su Muyun had been silently supporting her all along. She returned home to find him waiting up for her, and although he feigned disinterest by claiming he wasn't waiting and the TV was off, she felt a profound warmth and appreciation for him.
