Lin Zhihua was determined to go to Germany. His friend, Gao Rui, expressed his surprise that Lin Zhihua had not mentioned his departure earlier and questioned if his sister, Lin Zhiyue, would see him off, to which Lin Zhihua simply replied, "No." Meanwhile, in the lab, Gu Xuejiao was diligently cleaning, carefully wiping down a machine. Her gaze fell upon a label on the equipment, "Custodian: Lin Zhihua," a relic from his freshman year.
Simultaneously, Lin Zhihua was looking at a calendar, marked with Gu Xuejiao's study notes from the month before her college entrance exam. Both seemed to realize their unspoken feelings and rushed towards each other, but unfortunately, they took different paths. As Gu Xuejiao ran back to the lab, she muttered that she had left something behind, while Lin Zhihua, seemingly speaking to her spirit, asked for a reason to stay.
Upon returning to the lab, Gu Xuejiao was informed by a classmate that a boy had been waiting for her downstairs by the dorm. Turning around, she saw Yi Tianyu, who had come to hand in the homework from their last tutoring session. Yi Tianyu bragged about his efficiency, claiming it was because "You assigned me homework." Gu Xuejiao began to review his work, immediately pointing out an error in one of his answers.
Unbeknownst to them, Lin Zhihua stood nearby, observing their interaction, but he chose not to approach. Elsewhere, Zhou Shiyun held a grim "Warning Letter for Dismissal." Just then, Gu Mingze burst in, excitedly announcing that his game had topped the download charts for three consecutive weeks and eager to share his joy. Zhou Shiyun, however, was dismissive of his achievement and showed him the warning letter, sarcastically asking if he wanted a "poor student" like her to congratulate him.
Gu Mingze tried to explain his true intentions, but she angrily told him to leave. He then tried to persuade her to get bubble tea and talk, but Zhou Shiyun was cynical. Gu Mingze expressed his concern over her "letting herself go," constantly drinking and dancing, and doing "nothing serious." He quickly clarified that he never truly thought she deserved her fate, emphasizing that "no matter what you do, I'll stand by you."
He affirmed that whether she was the "well-behaved person she once was" or the "troublemaker facing expulsion now," she would always be herself to him, asserting that she had "never changed." Zhou Shiyun, however, dismissed his words as "hypocritical," claiming she barely recognized herself anymore. Gu Mingze reiterated his sincerity, insisting that he would always love her, regardless of how she saw herself. Later, a farewell party was held for Lin Zhihua's team in the laboratory building.
Gu Xuejiao, feeling unfamiliar with most of the attendees, chose to drink alone in a corner. Lin Zhihua, noticing her, approached. Gu Xuejiao seized the opportunity to pose a complex mathematical question, asking about the most efficient way to make variables within a linear function quickly return to their starting point without data overflow or CPU overheating.
Lin Zhihua explained that there were multiple solutions, emphasizing that it ultimately "depends on the code logic" and the ability to "fully utilize the CPU's bandwidth." He then added, with a subtle undertone, "But as long as you want, we can get the target function quickly returned." Feeling overwhelmed and increasingly intoxicated, Gu Xuejiao continued to drink. Eventually, seeing her heavily inebriated state, Lin Zhihua decided to escort her back to the university dorm.
Back on campus, they sat down by the sports field. Under the influence of alcohol, Gu Xuejiao impulsively kissed Lin Zhihua. She stopped calling him "Senior Lin" and repeatedly called him by his full name, "Lin Zhihua." She then gave him her high school emblem as a parting gift, explaining that it was special because it bore her name and she had never worn it before due to her sister's strong aversion to holes in clothes.
As Lin Zhihua carried her back to the dorm, Gu Xuejiao began to reveal a deeply personal secret: "Actually, I came back from ten years in the future." She rambled on about future events, including a significant technological rise and a project that could bring honor to the country, and recounted her past life struggles, where she had been a replaceable outsourced worker and believed Lin Zhihua had "picked on" her.
She expressed her conflicted feelings towards him, admitting she didn't know whether to hate him or thank him. She emphatically stated that she would "absolutely no way" like him if he were the future version of himself. Lin Zhihua, however, calmly responded, "It's okay. It's fine. Anyway, you're not that person from ten years later." The next morning, Gu Xuejiao woke up feeling groggy and could not recall the events of the previous night.
