During a transformation class in Demons' Valley, Xiao Yao takes the form of her teacher, Xiao Mu, leaving her classmates Da Li and Luoluo stunned. Using this disguise, Xiao Yao boldly refutes Xiao Mu's earlier claim that humans are incapable of true love. Having witnessed the deep bond between parents and children during her training in the human world, she tells the other demons that the teacher’s views are biased and should not be taken to heart.

An enraged Xiao Mu quickly regains control and orders Xiao Yao to a cliff to reflect on her actions, threatening to punish anyone who dares to plead for her. While Xiao Yao is confined to the cliffside, Xiao Mu confronts her, offering to lift the punishment if she admits her mistake. However, Xiao Yao stands her ground, arguing that spreading hatred will only deepen the divide between the human and demon races.

Xiao Mu insists that as a resident of the Valley, she must remain loyal to the demons alone. Accusing her of bewitching His Lordship and disrupting the demonic order, he binds her with the Demon-Binding Rope. He warns her that this agonizing restraint, which suppresses her spiritual power and makes her internal organs feel as though they are being crushed by boulders, will only release once she sincerely repents.

Da Li and Luoluo attempt a rescue by transforming into Xiao Mu and His Lordship, but their poor acting—and Da Li’s strange concern for camellias—quickly exposes them. Realizing they cannot break the rope themselves, they decide to seek help from the real Hong Ye. Meanwhile, Xiao Mu discovers that Hong Ye has already left his post to wander the human realm.

Hong Ye arrives at a famous noodle shop in Pingjiang Prefecture, intending to learn how to make the stir-fried shrimp and eel noodles Xiao Yao loves. He is initially confused by the complex ordering terms, such as red broth, extra scallions, and whether the toppings should be served on the side or mixed in. Determined to master the dish, he spends the entire day in the kitchen, paying the chefs a silver ingot for every taste test.

Despite wasting many ingredients and producing several "terrible" batches, he continues to practice with low heat and medium oil until he creates a dish that is finally edible. As the fifteenth of the twelfth lunar month arrives, Xiao Yao is surprised when Hong Ye brings her to the human world for a birthday meal. She initially mistakes him for Da Li, but he reveals that he was the one who had visited her on the cliff previously.

At a noodle shop he kept open late just for her, Hong Ye serves the stir-fried shrimp and eel noodles he worked so hard to perfect. Deeply moved, Xiao Yao admits it is the best meal she has ever had. Hong Ye even lights a red candle, encouraging her to make a wish as humans do, hoping that she might one day roam free in the vast world.

The quiet moment is interrupted when a drunken and sorrowful Xiao Dadan enters the shop. Xiao Yao is paralyzed with fear, hiding her face to prevent her father from seeing her as a demon. Xiao Dadan laments to Hong Ye about his "precious daughter," explaining that while he has searched everywhere for her, he is glad she remains hidden so she does not have to spend her life running from demon hunters.

He insists that even if she has become a demon, she must be a good one. Listening to his grief, Xiao Yao is moved to tears but remains silent to protect him. After he leaves, she follows him in the shadows for a long time but ultimately chooses not to reveal herself, accepting that she can never return to her old life. On the road back to the valley, a group of bandits attempts to rob Hong Ye.

Xiao Yao intervenes and drives them off with her demon arts before Hong Ye is forced to act. Despite her long-held desire to return to the human world, she tells him that she has decided to stay by his side for now, choosing to follow her heart in the short time they have. To conclude her birthday, Hong Ye uses his powers to take her soaring through the clouds, where they release a sky lantern together, watching it drift beautifully into the night.
