Xiao Yao and Hong Ye are surprised to discover that Jin Jr. and his entire family are actually chipmunk demons. The parents plead for mercy, explaining that their peaceful life was destroyed by humans a decade ago. In the chaos, they were separated from their son, who was eventually sold and kept as a pet by the wealthy Xu family. They waited years for the Xu family to move so they could bypass the demon-repelling talismans and rescue him.

However, they found that Jin Jr. had lost his memory of being a demon and believed himself to be human. To survive in the human world and provide for him, they helped a mistreated girl, Xiao Cui, fake her death and used her dowry as a "succession fee," allowing the blame for the incident to fall on the demon race. To break Jin Jr.’

s obsession with his human identity, Xiao Yao discovers that the Xu family has moved to Dengzhou. Upon arriving at the Xu Residence during a grand wedding, Jin Jr. reunites with his childhood friend, Tai, who is now the groom. Heartbreakingly, Tai denies knowing Jin Jr. , claiming he was raised under strict supervision and never had playmates. Feeling discarded like a forgotten pet, Jin Jr. prepares to leave with his parents.

However, Xiao Yao bets Hong Ye that true bonds endure. Her faith is rewarded when Tai suddenly rushes out to call Jin Jr.’ s name, confessing that he never forgot him. Tai reveals that when his father forbade him from taking the chipmunk during their move, he had filled the cage with nuts and chestnuts, hoping his "brother" would find the strength to survive on his own. With his heart finally at peace, Jin Jr. accepts his true identity.

Hong Ye decides to lead the family to Demon’s Valley, a hidden sanctuary protected by ancient barriers. As they enter, Xiao Yao exhibits a startling familiarity with the place, noting that except for two bridges, nothing has changed in a hundred years. She recognizes spirit herbs like the Zhuyu plant, which can ward off hunger for seven days.

She even surprises Hong Ye by mentioning she once knew a bamboo spirit who was the very first of its kind to achieve human form. To avoid causing a stir among the other inhabitants, Xiao Yao pretends to be a small snake demon that Hong Ye rescued from the human realm. They visit the "Moon-Gazing Terrace," a school where young demons are taught by a teacher named the King of Eight Plates.

While exploring, they meet Xiao Ming and Xiao Mu, two brothers who share a single body and two souls. Xiao Ming, the cheerful soul, explains that Xiao Mu had sacrificed his life during a massive heavenly tribulation to save him, and Hong Ye had arrived just in time to stabilize their spirits and teach them how to cultivate. While Xiao Ming befriends Xiao Yao, internal trouble brews.

The ambitious Hei Wu has been spreading rumors that the Demon Monarch is neglecting his people to consort with humans. Hei Wu returns to the elders at Youning Cave with "trophies" from hunting humans to gain favor and discredit Hong Ye’s leadership. Urged by Xiao Ming, Hong Ye heads to the cave to confront the growing dissent and protect the valley’s stability.
