Hong Ye escorted Xiao Yao, who was now living as Princess Ning’an, back to the imperial palace. Heartened by the Emperor's apparent desire for peace, Hong Ye listened as the monarch proposed a royal marriage between the Demon King and the Princess to symbolize a new era of harmony. To solidify this union and grant both races eternal life, the Emperor requested that Hong Ye retrieve the ancient Kunlun Mirror to reach the Yuli Spring.
Driven by his devotion to Ning’an and the Emperor's appeal for them to share a long life together, Hong Ye readily agreed to the quest. As the wedding neared, Xiao Yao received lavish gifts from the court, including the Luoshui Goddess painting and fine silks.
However, her joy was overshadowed by a chilling memory from a history book: in the year 248 of Tiansheng, Princess Ning’an had allegedly lured the demon Hong Ye into a trap, sacrificing her own life to kill him. This sense of dread intensified when the Emperor led her to the ancestral hall. There, his facade of benevolence shattered. He spoke of a legacy built on demon blood and revealed that he had personally killed her mother—a demoness—immediately after Ning'an's birth.
The Emperor demanded that Xiao Yao kill Hong Ye to prove her loyalty and "cleanse" her bloodline. When she indignantly refused, he surreptitiously placed a puppet talisman, crafted by a Heavenly Master, on her back. This allowed him to override her will and use her as a tool in his scheme. Upon his return with the Kunlun Mirror, Hong Ye became suspicious of the Emperor’s greed. He refused to hand over the mirror until he saw Ning’an.
A brutal ambush followed, and Hong Ye was forced to face the puppet-controlled Xiao Yao. Under the talisman’s influence, she denounced him as a scourge and claimed their love was merely a ploy to weaken him. Trapped within the Eight Yang Formation and tortured by Pipa Hooks, a weakened Hong Ye asked if she had ever truly loved him. Controlled by the spell, she replied "Never" and identified herself only as Princess Ning'an.
Heartbroken, Hong Ye chose to dissipate into golden light, leaving behind only his robes and a single tear-essence. As the talisman fell away, Xiao Yao collapsed in grief. The Emperor’s triumph was short-lived as the Kunlun Mirror vanished before he could seize it. In a rage, he ordered his armies to slaughter every remaining demon. Guided by the tear-essence, Xiao Yao’s consciousness traveled through time, leading her to the profound realization that she and Ning'an were the same soul.
In the present timeline, Lu Pianpian—now the Dreamshard Immortal—had used Shadow Poison to link her mind with Tan'er, monitoring Bing Zhu’s progress at the Demons' Valley. As Bing Zhu faced a crowd of displaced refugees, the powerful demons Ao Hen, Tengshe, and Qiongqi appeared, eager to take revenge on Hong Ye for the ten thousand years they spent sealed away.
