Under a sky filled with drifting Kongming lanterns, Xiao Yao marveled at the breathtaking view, feeling as though she were in a dream. Hong Ye guided her hand as they launched a lantern together, telling her to pick her favorite one. Watching the vibrant fireworks explode above, Xiao Yao felt that this was truly the most wonderful birthday she had ever experienced. The festivities in the human realm were equally lively.

Da Li and Luoluo wandered through the bustling market to find Xiao Yao a birthday gift. While Luoluo was constantly distracted by the aroma of food and pig-shaped treats, Da Li found a rouge shop crowded with beautiful women. The shop assistants, claiming to be celestial maidens, offered scented balms that promised eternal youth.

Da Li was selected as a special guest and led into a back room to see a portrait of the "Immortal Lord Suimeng," the supreme head of all flowers. The maiden instructed Da Li to take the portrait home and offer it fresh flowers daily, promising that her devotion would eventually lead her to become a disciple of the Immortal Lord and enjoy beauty that never fades.

Excited by the discovery, Da Li brought the scented balm and the portrait back to the Valley of Ten Thousand Demons. However, the moment Xiao Yao saw the image of the Immortal Lord, she sensed something was wrong and urged Da Li to throw it away. It was too late. The portrait had acted as a beacon, allowing four maidens from the Misty Void Realm—Yingning, Zhirui, Pei’er, and Pianpian—to bypass the valley’s barrier.

They revealed they had been waiting outside for over a month, and the portrait was their way in. In the ensuing chaos, Xiao Yao attempted to use her transformation skills to disguise herself as Yingning, but she was quickly identified. Xiao Mu rushed in to save her, but he was bound by their magic and forced to watch helplessly as Xiao Yao was captured. Hong Ye arrived to confront the intruders, finding his people held hostage.

To protect Xiao Yao and the other demons, he was forced to accept a "gift" from Immortal Lord Suimeng—a Heart-Devouring Poison in the form of a venomous worm. The maidens explained that while Hong Ye’s power was profound, his many weaknesses made him vulnerable.

Hong Ye then shared the dark truth about Suimeng: she was once a celestial maiden who fell in love with the human realm, but her marriage to a mortal tainted her with worldly impurities, preventing her return to heaven. To maintain her youth, she replaced her heart with an "Exquisite Crystal Heart" and began consuming the essence of mortal women.

She now sought the Jade Nectar Spring to return to the heavens and had sent her followers to trap Hong Ye. Following the encounter, Da Li was overwhelmed with guilt for inadvertently bringing danger to the valley. Hong Ye, feeling the poison begin to take hold, ordered everyone back to their cultivation. He explained to Xiao Mu that the poison was designed to draw out the inherent malice in a demon’s nature.

Knowing he only had a few days before the poison overcame him, Hong Ye found Heiwu and Wu Huan, banishing them from the valley forever for their treacherous ambitions. He then sought out Xiao Yao one last time. To ensure her safety, he infused his spirit sense into a grass ring and gave it to her before knocking her unconscious to prevent her from following him.

When Xiao Yao woke, she found a message left by Hong Ye explaining that he had gone to the Misty Void Realm alone to settle the matter. Xiao Mu was furious with Xiao Yao, blaming her presence for the suffering their Lord was enduring. He warned her that if Hong Ye did not return, the entire valley would hold her accountable. Despite the hostility, Da Li and Luoluo remained loyal to Xiao Yao.

Da Li revealed she had stolen a Safety Talisman that would burn to ash only if Hong Ye remained safe. When Xiao Mu caught them together, Da Li had to quickly stomp on a noisy paper charm to hide their activities. Unwilling to wait in the valley while Hong Ye risked his life, Xiao Yao decided to sneak out. Luoluo agreed to disguise himself as her to cover her absence during morning lessons.

Da Li insisted on coming along, refusing to let Xiao Yao face danger alone after all the times Xiao Yao had saved her. They decided their best hope was to seek help from Bing Zhu in Pingjiang Prefecture. However, upon arriving at the prefectural office, they found the gates closed.

A local informed them that the Feather Guard had already left for the capital to report their capture of a great demon, and the prefect had taken his family to see the Emperor, leaving the two girls with nowhere to turn.
