Wu Huan returns to the forest and discovers that the Feiyu Guards have lost track of the Demon King. Realizing that Hong Ye’s spiritual power was depleted during his battle with Immortal Lord Suimeng, the guards are eager to capture him for the reward. However, Xiao Yao intervenes with her magic to intimidate them.

She cleverly sows discord by approaching Wu Huan as if they are co-conspirators, tricking the humans into believing Wu Huan led them into a trap to harvest their hearts for food. Terrified of being turned into "barbecue," the Feiyu Guards flee. Hong Ye makes a timely appearance to maintain the ruse, forcing a panicked Wu Huan to retreat as well.

The bamboo demon, Xiao Mu, is overcome with guilt for his past treatment of Xiao Yao, but she reassures him that he is simply a common demon and wasn't the only one involved in saving him. Xiao Mu informs Hong Ye that since Heiwu seized control of Demons' Valley and took over Youning Cave, the local demons have been hiding in the shadows, waiting for their true King’s return. Meanwhile, Heiwu is furious upon learning of Wu Huan’s failure.

He treats Wu Huan like a lowly servant, striking him across the face before ordering him to leak Hong Ye’s whereabouts to the human authorities. Heiwu plans to use the Feiyu Guards to kill Hong Ye, hoping to seize power once both parties are weakened. Knowing they cannot rush into a direct confrontation, Xiao Yao advises Hong Ye to gather their allies first.

To lure the cat demon Xiao Ming out of hiding, they experiment with various scents, eventually succeeding with catnip. When Xiao Ming sees that His Lordship is alive, he excitedly attempts to pounce on him. Fearing that Hong Ye’s lack of spiritual power will be exposed if he is knocked over, Xiao Yao discreetly uses her own magic to restrain the cat. Xiao Mu remains hidden at first, too ashamed to face Hong Ye after losing the valley to Heiwu.

When he learns of Hong Ye's condition, he blames Xiao Yao, but Hong Ye defends her, explaining that he used the Heart-Burning Incantation of his own accord and that the Immortal Lord would have targeted him regardless. Xiao Yao convinces Xiao Mu to use his magic to conjure silver so they can visit a human settlement. Her plan is to "fight fire with fire" by purchasing human weapons designed to hunt demons.

When Xiao Mu questions if these human trinkets can stop a thousand-year-old demon, Xiao Yao explains that Heiwu is a horseshoe bat in human form. Like any animal, he has innate weaknesses, such as a fear of loud noises. She believes these human inventions are the perfect tools to exploit his cowardly nature. Back at Demons' Valley, the paranoid Heiwu sends Wu Huan to investigate strange noises outside.

Wu Huan is lured into a series of traps, blinded by toxic fog and caught in a physical snare. He stumbles back to report the ambush, leaving Heiwu terrified. When Heiwu finally ventures out, he is met with a barrage of fireworks and a grand illusion of Hong Ye. Seeing "Hong Ye" surrounded by what appear to be powerful reinforcements, Heiwu loses his nerve.

In an act of cowardice, he pushes Wu Huan forward to test their strength and flees, abandoning his subordinate. With Heiwu gone, the demons reclaim the valley and bind Wu Huan. While the others berate him for his betrayal, Xiao Yao observes that Wu Huan is not a mere crow but a falcon who was manipulated by a bat.

Xiao Mu wants to execute the traitor, but Hong Ye shows mercy and orders him to be released, hoping Wu Huan will reflect on his misdeeds. To boost morale, Xiao Yao offers to teach the demons new spells. Xiao Mu tries to show off his newly learned "Earth Escape" technique to impress the others, but only succeeds in embarrassing himself when it fails.

Later, Xiao Ming searches through ancient texts for a way to restore Hong Ye’s power but finds nothing, grumbling about the self-destructive nature of the Heart-Burning Incantation. Hong Ye visits Wu Huan, who remains stubborn, claiming he will never betray Heiwu because the bat demon once saved him from a narrow-necked bottle. During the night, Wu Huan attempts to trick the guard Luo Luo into loosening his bindings.

When Luo Luo’s kindness is met with a sudden attack, Hong Ye intervenes, taking the blow to protect the minor demon. Hong Ye lectures the stunned Wu Huan, stating that a true leader must care for all beings equally rather than ruling through slaughter. Though Hong Ye is injured and visibly pale, he hides his pain and his search for medicine from Xiao Yao when she finds him later that night.
