After spending three final days with Duan Xu before his military campaign, He Simu returns to the Void. Her first visit is to the imprisoned Bai Sanxing. Utilizing a soul-controlling bracelet forged with Fengyi’s assistance, she confirms she can now command him. Despite her control, Bai Sanxing remains defiant, taunting her that she will never uncover the truth she seeks.
Jiang Ai soon informs He Simu that Yan Ke has been frequently traveling to Shuozhou, the exact location where Duan Xu is stationed. Suspecting Yan Ke's motives, He Simu convenes a court assembly. She publicly reprimands Yan Ke for his failure to report an undersea earthquake in the North Abyss and for usurping her authority.
To the unease of the other officials, she sentences him to fifty lashes and ten days of confinement, a harsh display of power that leaves the court silenced. He Simu then travels to Shuozhou, where she eliminates malevolent spirits that were tailing Chengying. This allows Chengying to safely deliver strategic maps prepared by Luoxian to Duan Xu, providing him with a vital advantage. Later, He Simu disguises herself as a servant sent by the local prefect to serve Duan Xu.
Despite her borrowed form, Duan Xu recognizes her immediately by her eyes. She gives him a protective amulet, sensing his state through it and instructing him to call for her if he faces a grave danger he cannot overcome. Meanwhile, Lu Da tracks down Mu’ertu, Duan Xu’s former mentor. He poisons the master’s mind against his former student, portraying Duan Xu as a traitor to their order and providing the means to trap him.
In the city, Duan Xu notices secret markings left by the "Tianzhixiao" group. He deduces that General Tang of the Jingzhou uprising has been bribed by the North Chong army and that Han Lingqiu is likely being held hostage. Duan Xu orders his generals, Wu and Xia Qingsheng, to reclaim nearby cities to isolate the enemy while he sets off alone to rescue Han. Duan Xu finds a severely wounded Han Lingqiu, whose memory has finally returned.
As they attempt to escape, Mu’ertu intercepts them. Outmatched by his master’s skills and protective of the weakened Han Lingqiu, Duan Xu is nearly overwhelmed. Sensing the amulet’s activation, He Simu arrives in a fury and kills Mu’ertu. After ensuring the safety of both men, she returns to the Void and entrusts the soul-controlling bracelet to Jiang Ai, warning her to be wary of Yan Ke. At a formal assembly, He Simu confesses to the crime of killing a mortal.
She declares her willingness to submit to the Golden-wall Decrees, the most severe penalty which involves surrendering the Wanling Record and being barred from using the Wanling Lamp. To the shock of the other officials, Yan Ke supports the punishment instead of opposing it. Following the ritual that leaves her significantly weakened, Yan Ke offers to manage the Void’s affairs. However, He Simu thwarts his ambition by bypassing him and appointing Jiang Ai as her temporary deputy.
