He Simu ultimately took up the Kunwu Blade, assuming her role as the Sovereign of Spirits and embracing the same lonely path her father once walked. Since the departure of her parents, He Simu had changed profoundly; Jiang Ai observed that she had hardened her heart, maintaining a ruthless vigilance that left her seemingly cold and unreachable. For four centuries, she had served both the mortal and spirit realms without expecting or needing anything from those around her.

As Duan Xu recovered, he questioned Jiang Ai about his escape from the Nine Palaces Mystery Prison. Jiang Ai confirmed that while he was the first mortal to survive it, He Simu was the first spirit to do so centuries ago. During a fierce battle with Bai Sanxing within that prison, both of their soul candles were extinguished. However, He Simu achieved a miracle by walking out three days later and relighting her own.

Unlike most spirits who are bound by obsessions, He Simu was able to break free because she was born from love. Once Duan Xu was well enough to leave his bed, He Simu led him to a graveyard where she revealed the tombs of twenty-two mortal lovers she had known over the past four hundred years. Most never knew her true identity, and her time with them was but a fleeting moment in her eternal life.

She confessed that time wears everything away, admitting that one day she would forget even his name. Knowing the hardships of his past, she urged him to return to the human world to find a girl he could truly love, marry, and build a happy family with kin he could rely on.

Duan Xu, however, reminded her of the tenderness she had shown him while he was unconscious—how she had stayed by his side and held his hand whenever he called for her. He challenged her to admit if she truly felt nothing, but He Simu maintained her distance, claiming he was not within her considerations. Despite her cold words, she privately grappled with a new fear.

Duan Xu was the first person to ever "come for her," and she feared she was incapable of protecting his fragile heart from the world's cruelty. Rather than see his heart scarred further, she decided to return it to him intact, wishing for him to achieve his ambitions and live a life of peace. Before his departure, Duan Xu left a final gift for He Simu through Jiang Ai.

It was a collection of notes describing the Void through the lens of mortal senses—the yellow-green glow of summer fireflies and the crimson blooms of roses. He used his poetic talent to gift her a version of the Void that felt alive and vibrant, a stark contrast to the desolation she usually perceived. He Simu was deeply moved by his effort to leave a piece of the mortal world behind for her.

While Duan Xu prepared to leave, the political landscape of the Void remained treacherous. Yan Zhang met with Yan Ke, handing him a hidden ledger she had stolen from Jiang Ai’s temple. Yan Ke promised Yan Zhang that when the time was right, he would remove Jiang Ai from power and appoint Yan Zhang as the Palace Lord.

Their conversation turned to Bai Sanxing; despite his soul candle being snuffed out long ago, Yan Ke had received word that he was still alive and warned that he would eventually become a grave threat. The peace of the Void was soon shattered when Xusheng, the gatekeeper, fell asleep and accidentally left the mountain gate open.

Taking advantage of the lapse, Bai Sanxing escaped and was seen by Jiang Ai at the Ascension Pool, where he was devouring spirits to regain his strength. Though she recognized the danger, Jiang Ai intentionally let him go. Later, during a court assembly, He Simu revealed the token of the Lord of Yuling Temple, announcing that he had met with disaster and was now annihilated.

He Simu ordered a thorough search of the Void for Bai Sanxing, noting that even Xusheng’s memories had been tampered with to hide the truth of the escape. Since Jiang Ai was considered to be under suspicion, the task of the search was handed to Yan Ke. Following the assembly, Yan Ke and Jiang Ai confronted one another. Knowing Bai Sanxing’s ancient obsession with Jiang Ai, Yan Ke suspected her of hiding information.

Jiang Ai countered by reminding Yan Ke that he was the deputy who had betrayed Bai Sanxing centuries ago, suggesting he should be the one looking over his shoulder. Meanwhile, Duan Xu returned to the mortal world, reuniting with Meng Wan, Xia Qingsheng, and Chenying on the road to Nandu. Upon their arrival at the capital, a ceremony was held to celebrate the victory over North Chong.

Marshal Qin was elevated to the status of Duke of Defense, and Fang Xianye received a promotion for his logistics work. Despite Duan Xu being the one to take the enemy general's head, the Emperor ruled that his merits were offset by his earlier defiance of orders. Stripped of his title as General Tabai, Duan Xu was reassigned to the post of Court Counselor, beginning a new chapter of his life in the capital.
