Duan Xu firmly declines, insisting that the boy will eventually follow him back to the battlefield and must not become an idle dandy of the capital. Plagued by a persistent cough and the memory of losing two sons to war, the elder Duan is displeased with Duan Xu’s lingering military ambitions. In the Void, the hunt for the escaped Bai Sanxing sparks a confrontation between the two ministers. Yan Ke finds Jiang Ai near the traitor’s trail and accuses her of collusion. Jiang Ai retorts that Yan Ke is merely trying to frame her to seize total control.
He Simu arrives to stop the conflict, ordering Jiang Ai to return and accept punishment for her failure. Privately, Yan Ke voices his obsession with He Simu, claiming he is the only one truly looking out for her. He Simu maintains her composure, reassuring him that there will always be a place for him by her throne, as she cannot afford internal strife during such a crisis. However, Yan Ke soon discovers that Yan Zhang has been deceiving him.
He realizes she used secret techniques to enchant her ledgers and was the one who confused Xusheng’s memories to release Bai Sanxing. Though Yan Ke threatens her for targeting He Simu, he ultimately decides to let her proceed with the plan to see how far her ambition will go. Panic spreads as Bai Sanxing continues to devour high-ranking spirits. When He Simu abruptly cancels all court assemblies for three days, rumors circulate among the Hall Lords that the Sovereign has been weakened. This perceived vulnerability lures He Simu into a trap.
She finds Bai Sanxing, only to realize he has been forged into a powerful puppet via the Chiling Secret Technique. Yan Zhang reveals herself, using a magical artifact to bind He Simu to a stone pillar. Confident of her victory, Yan Zhang begins to drain He Simu’s spirit power, intending to consume her essence entirely.
