She had identified that Yili'er’s treasure evaluations were a sophisticated scam; while he claimed to distinguish authentic artifacts from fakes by "listening" to them, he was secretly swapping the genuine treasures for replicas, which he would then have his servants publicly destroy to maintain the ruse. Meanwhile, in the palace, Yan Ke was consumed by his frustration regarding He Simu and Duan Xu.
When his Left Minister, Jiang Ai, correctly pointed out the cause of his agitation, Yan Ke grew defensive and ordered his subordinates to monitor He Simu’s activities in the mortal world. Song Xingyu, still coveting both the Spirit Lantern and Duan Xu’s Deliverance Sword, equipped his underling with Gold-threaded Gloves—a tool designed to suppress the aura of spiritual artifacts. Duan Xu had gathered intelligence about Yili'er and his son, Luda, a High Priest in the capital.
Duan Xu recognized Luda as an acquaintance from the "All-Knowing" and noted the disturbing trend of Yili'er’s other children dying in infancy. Although he shared these findings with He Simu, he remained convinced that Luda was not complicit in his father’s corruption. He Simu, however, remained unfazed, confident that their enemies would reveal themselves as they chased after what they desired.
Yili'er approached the pair under the guise of fear, claiming that he suspected Duan Xu was an evil spirit and asking him to intercept his son, Luda, who was returning home for a visit. He Simu, sensing a trap set by Song Xingyu and Yili'er, urged Duan Xu to comply. While on his way, Duan Xu was ambushed by Song Xingyu's followers. Despite their specialized gloves, they were no match for the Deliverance Sword, and they were forced to retreat.
Duan Xu successfully located Luda and, finding no malice in him, traveled back with him to the estate. In Duan Xu’s absence, Song Xingyu attempted to eliminate He Simu. Unable to find her true fatal weak point, he lured her into a manufactured dreamscape. In this illusion, He Simu encountered her deceased parents, who attempted to convince her that death was the only escape from her suffering. She immediately saw through the deception, refusing to succumb to their manipulation.
As Song Xingyu moved to strike, Duan Xu returned and intervened. Outmatched by Duan Xu, Song Xingyu was forced to flee. In the aftermath, the pair shared an intimate moment where Duan Xu admitted how deeply he had worried for her, a gesture that brought them even closer.
