Lu Jinnian was approached by a talent scout from Lingyu Media while walking around campus. The scout, Shen Ming Zhe, relentlessly pursued him, following him to classes, the library, and even his part-time job at a restaurant. Lu Jinnian, known for his unyielding composure, eventually agreed to a single screen test just to make Shen Ming Zhe stop bothering him. He asked, "If I promise to do a screen test with you once, will you stop following me?"
Shen Ming Zhe eagerly confirmed he would. The next day, Shen Ming Zhe brought Lu Jinnian to meet Ms. Zhen, the boss of Lingyu Media. Ms. Zhen, who had been notoriously difficult to impress, recognized Lu Jinnian's unique appearance and demeanor. However, she also sensed his lack of enthusiasm for acting. She engaged him in conversation, noting his seemingly average life and suggesting that being an actor offered a more interesting path, allowing him to experience different lives.
More importantly, she stressed that if he became famous and wealthy, he could provide a better life for his family and loved ones. This resonated with Lu Jinnian, who had privately vowed to become successful enough for Qiao Anhao. Ms. Zhen gave him a day to consider her offer. Shen Ming Zhe, anxious about his job security, worried if Lu Jinnian would return.
The following afternoon, Lu Jinnian returned to Ms. Zhen and agreed to enter the entertainment industry, but he presented three conditions: he would not accept roles that crossed his moral bottom line, he would manage his own public statements, and he would not engage in any scandals. Ms. Zhen questioned his audacity, to which Lu Jinnian confidently replied, "Because I will become popular." Seeing his conviction, Lu Jinnian added a fourth condition: Shen Ming Zhe must be his manager.
Ms. Zhen, though hesitant, eventually agreed. Shen Ming Zhe was overjoyed, hugging Lu Jinnian, who immediately pushed him away, simply saying, "Stay away from me." Lu Jinnian then began filming promotional material, showcasing his versatility. Ms. Zhen later advised Shen Ming Zhe to be selective with Lu Jinnian's projects, prioritizing quality over quantity. Meanwhile, Qiao Anhao was in her dorm with Zhao Meng, watching a romantic drama.
Zhao Meng, caught up in the show, wished to find someone who had secretly loved her for years, like a character in the drama. Qiao Anhao, lost in her own thoughts, asked Zhao Meng when she would be "loyal to one" character, to which Zhao Meng declared it "universal love." Song Xiangsi, whose father was ill and hospitalized, was working various part-time jobs to earn money.
One day, while she was distributing flyers, Jia Mu attempted to help, inadvertently causing her to be fired by her supervisor, Miss Li, who accused her of being lazy and unreliable. Jia Mu, feeling apologetic, offered to compensate her financially, but Song Xiangsi angrily rebuffed him, calling him a "parasite" who was simply lucky to have rich parents. Later that evening, a despondent Jia Mu invited Qiao Anhao to a KTV.
He quickly got drunk, lamenting that he felt useless without his parents and wondering if he was "dislikable." He asked Qiao Anhao if she believed he could make his newly formed e-sports club successful. Qiao Anhao assured him she did. Shortly after, Jia Mu spotted Song Xiangsi in another room, being harassed by a group of men who were forcing her to drink. He rushed in to intervene, fighting the men and sustaining some injuries himself.
Song Xiangsi pulled him away to hide, but still upset by the earlier incident, she begged him to leave and stop bothering her, stating she didn't want to lose another job because of him. " You hate me that much?" he asked. She threatened to leave if he didn't. Back in their KTV room, Qiao Anhao wondered what had happened between them.
Song Xiangsi's reclusive nature and late-night returns to the dorm led to rumors among her female classmates, who gossiped about her questionable character, calling her a "femme fatale" and a "basic bitch." On a film set, Lu Jinnian encountered Ms. Fang, an actress who attempted to proposition him. She tried to discuss a scene as a pretext, then asserted her influence, boasting that she could make or break careers in minutes.
Lu Jinnian, however, firmly rejected her advances, declaring, "This drama is impossible for me to do." Ms. Fang, angered, threatened him. Back at Lingyu Media, Ms. Zhen was furious about him getting fired from a role she had "practically got on [her] knees" to secure. Lu Jinnian took responsibility but stated he would not film the drama and would reject all future projects involving Ms. Fang, refusing to resort to such unethical methods for success.
Ms. Zhen, though frustrated, ultimately handed him a low-budget art-house film with low pay, which Lu Jinnian accepted despite Shen Ming Zhe's protests. Separately, Han Ruchu, Jia Mu's mother, noticed his extravagant spending. She called him, discovering he had started an e-sports club. She vehemently disapproved, calling it "an excuse to game" and urging him not to take it seriously, reminding him of his responsibility to inherit the family group.
Jia Mu, however, strongly pushed back, stating he had his own interests and choices, and refused to live a future of "suits and conferences with old men." He asserted that he had already established his club and would continue with it, regardless of her support, before abruptly hanging up. Qiao Anhao, having learned that Lu Jinnian had become a celebrity, though not yet famous, and was already filming a drama, later informed Jia Mu over the phone.
Qiao Anhao then invited Lu Jinnian to Ronghai to hang out. Lu Jinnian pushed off all his work and came to meet her at her school. She expressed her surprise and curiosity about his decision to act, noting she thought he preferred a quiet life. Lu Jinnian explained that "actors can experience different kinds of lives" and he "wanted to try it." Qiao Anhao enthusiastically peppered him with questions about acting.
Lu Jinnian then suggested they go for a Ferris wheel ride. Qiao Anhao excitedly agreed. As he left to drop off his belongings, Lu Jinnian reaffirmed his inner resolve, thinking to himself, "I'll do anything for you as long as you like it. I want to do my best to gain the entire world and place it before you."
