In 2012, Fan Fan made barbecue for everyone outdoors for her friends. Qin Yang asked her where she had been during her absence, and Fan Fan frankly told him that she had returned to 2024. She explained that she came back because Liu Ruochen and their good friends were there. She also assured Qin Yang that they remained good friends in 2024.
As they sat and chatted, Fan Fan learned that Liu Ruochen had been refusing to eat properly while she was away. Ruochen playfully complained that he had become accustomed to her cooking and lost his appetite when she wasn't around. Fan Fan urged everyone to start eating, feeling immensely happy in that moment. However, Qin Yang's earlier question about her return lingered in her mind, and she wished every day could be this simple and joyful.
Later, after school, Liu Ruochen invited Qin Yang to dinner at his home, but Qin Yang declined. He wanted to know if Fan Fan had been acting differently lately. Liu Ruochen believed she hadn't, but Qin Yang sensed that Fan Fan's return might have a special purpose. Liu Ruochen dismissed this as overthinking, convinced that Fan Fan simply missed them. That evening, Fan Fan set up a candlelight dinner at home.
Liu Ruochen added a romantic touch with flowers and wine, a "small ceremony" he prepared for her. He then asked Fan Fan if she was truly hiding something from him, mentioning Qin Yang's suspicions. Fan Fan paused for a moment but quickly denied it. The next morning, Liu Ruochen, despite wanting to sleep in, got up to go to work.
After he left, Fan Fan went to the computer to search for information on a Dr. Shen Shijia, finding out he was a dermatologist who had adopted a son named Gao Ruwen from a welfare institution. She decided to pretend to be a patient to approach him. Fan Fan applied makeup to simulate an allergic rash and went to Dr. Shen's office.
After he diagnosed her fake condition, she directly asked him if he had an adopted son named Gao Ruwen. She then warned him that in 2024, Gao Ruwen would become a criminal and cause harm to many people. Dr. Shen, disbelieving her, suggested she visit the psychiatry department and dismissed her. Undaunted, Fan Fan waited until Dr. Shen finished work and followed him to the Pingtai Bar. On the way, she left her phone in the taxi.
Liu Ruochen, calling her, had the taxi driver answer and was informed of Fan Fan's location. While Dr. Shen was in the restroom, Fan Fan approached him, pretending to be heartbroken from a breakup. She hoped to get him to drink and extract information about Gao Ruwen. However, Dr. Shen, with ulterior motives, kept plying her with alcohol until she was drunk. He then offered to take her home but attempted to take her to a hotel.
Fortunately, Liu Ruochen arrived just in time, punched Dr. Shen, and carried Fan Fan back home. The next morning, Fan Fan awoke with a severe headache. Liu Ruochen was beside her and playfully teased her, suggesting she "bear the rod and beg for forgiveness." He then asked her why she went to the bar alone the previous night. Fan Fan initially resisted telling him, but Liu Ruochen urged her to trust him, assuring her they could face any problems together.
Fan Fan then confessed: in 2024, Liu Ruochen had sent a suspect to prison. After his release, this individual orchestrated a bomb attack on Liu Ruochen's car, killing him. Fan Fan explained that she had returned to 2012 specifically to save him, declaring she could not bear to lose him again. Liu Ruochen, unfazed by the revelation, saw her return as a chance to change the future.
He promised to protect himself for her but strictly forbade her from taking such risks alone again. He also took her old phone, which the taxi driver had given him, and presented her with a new, simpler phone, referring to it as the "latest model." Soon after, Qin Yang arrived, having been informed by Liu Ruochen about the situation. The three discussed how to extract information about Gao Ruwen from Shen Shijia.
Liu Ruochen proposed that since it was only 2012, Gao Ruwen might still be a teenager and not yet have turned to evil. They decided that Liu Ruochen and Fan Fan would visit Shen Shijia's home to assess the situation, while Qin Yang would go to the welfare institution to discreetly gather information. Liu Ruochen and Fan Fan then went to Shen Shijia’s house. Dr. Shen was not home, having just gone out for something.
His wife welcomed them and offered them water. Fan Fan presented the wife with some snacks, ostensibly for their child. Shen's wife began to talk about her child, Nan Nan, describing her as mischievous, always hiding under the bed to play marbles and not listening to her mother. She then asked Fan Fan and Liu Ruochen to help persuade Nan Nan. As she pulled "Nan Nan" out from under the bed, it was revealed to be a doll, indicating that Shen's wife was mentally unstable.
