As Chu Ran, dressed in her wedding gown, shed tears contemplating her reflection, the sounds of firecrackers heralded the arrival of Zhan Junbai. He instructed her brother, Chu Min, to ride in the front car with him, leaving the bridal car for Chu Ran. As Zhan Junbai led the bride down the aisle, the crowd erupted in applause, admiring him as a benevolent leader despite murmurs of an impending rebellion.

Inside, Chen Yuzhi remarked to Jiang Yuelou that the meticulous Zhan Junbai must have schemes beyond just military preparations to legitimize his actions, and Jiang Yuelou advised they adapt to the situation. During the ceremony, Chen Yuzhi noticed the bride was not following their pre-arranged plan and grew concerned she had been threatened. Jiang Yuelou agreed it was a possibility and told Chen Yuzhi to cover him as he prepared to expose Zhan Junbai.

After the ceremony concluded, Minister Li of the Security Department was invited to speak. Suddenly, a hand holding a gun emerged and fatally shot the minister, plunging the wedding into chaos. The surprisingly calm Zhan Junbai urged everyone not to panic, instructing officers to take shelter in first-floor rooms while other guests were sent to the second-floor banquet hall under guard.

Seeing Chu Min leading Chu Ran away, Jiang Yuelou sensed something was wrong and sent Chen Yuzhi to follow and protect them. However, one of Zhan Junbai's men intercepted Chu Ran at a rear exit, falsely claiming he was taking her to safety from nearby criminals. Meanwhile, government officials were ushered into a room, where they were told Zhan Junbai would deal with the murderer before releasing them. Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi were among them.

When Minister Yang accused Jiang Yuelou of being a traitor, Jiang Yuelou countered that Zhan Junbai was the real traitor, having trapped all of them to stage a coup. He pointed out the locked doors and sealed windows, but the officials refused to believe him. It was then that Chen Yuzhi, after spotting another woman, realized the bride who arrived at the wedding was not Chu Ran but Zhao Moqing, a result of a car swap.

Outside the hotel, Jin Dacheng intercepted Zhan Tianqing’s car, claiming Commissioner Bai had sent him with the latest strategic deployment map of Jing City. After luring a confident Zhan Tianqing out of his vehicle, Jin Dacheng revealed his true allegiance and drew his gun. In the ensuing struggle, Jin Dacheng shot one of Zhan Tianqing's men, then pursued and killed the fleeing Zhan Tianqing. Back at the hotel, Zhan Junbai forced a captured Chu Min to unveil Chu Ran.

Believing it was Zhan Junbai under the veil, Chu Ran thrust a knife forward, only to realize in horror that she had stabbed her own brother. In the room with the trapped officials, Jiang Yuelou discovered a bomb. With Chen Yuzhi’s encouragement, Jiang Yuelou skillfully defused it by cutting the yellow wire. Just as the crisis was averted, Jin Dacheng and his men broke down the door, announcing the situation was under control.

Worried for Chu Ran, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi grabbed guns and rushed to find her. They found Zhan Junbai holding Chu Ran hostage. Zhao Moqing then entered, furiously declaring her intent to kill Jiang Yuelou. She fired her gun, but the shot tragically struck Chu Ran. As she lay dying in Jiang Yuelou's arms, Chu Ran asked him if he would have loved her had they met in less turbulent times.

Desperate, Jiang Yuelou offered himself in exchange for her. Zhan Junbai released the dying Chu Ran only to seize Zhao Moqing as his new hostage. In a final act of treachery, Zhan Junbai shoved Zhao Moqing toward Jiang Yuelou while shooting her, then made his escape. In the aftermath, Jiang Yuelou was promoted to Commissioner and Jin Dacheng to Deputy Commissioner.

Jin Dacheng good-naturedly complained about being outranked despite his key role in quelling the rebellion, suggesting Jiang Yuelou was now overqualified and should go grow herbs with Chen Yuzhi. Jiang Yuelou affirmed their separate duties, stating his mission was not just to restore peace but to guide Jing City toward a brighter future. Chen Yuzhi reunited with his sister, Ke Ying, and brought her to his clinic.

Enchanted, Ke Ying shared her dream of becoming a doctor and opening her own "Keying Clinic," prompting Chen Yuzhi to encourage her to return to school to gain the necessary knowledge. Two weeks later, Jiang Yuelou and Chen Yuzhi met on the street, pleased to see Jing City's restored tranquility. They happily made plans to eat Tangyuan for the upcoming Lantern Festival. As they walked together, a rickshaw driver—revealed to be Zhan Junbai—opened fire.

Chen Yuzhi pushed Jiang Yuelou to safety, taking the bullet himself. Jiang Yuelou returned fire, wounding Zhan Junbai, who then committed suicide. Jiang Yuelou desperately tried to get Chen Yuzhi to a hospital, but it was too late. With his last breaths, Chen Yuzhi entrusted Ke Ying to Jiang Yuelou’s care and whispered that he was tired and wished they could have eaten Tangyuan together. Heartbroken, Jiang Yuelou cradled him, grappling with his profound loss. Later, Jiang Yuelou sat with Ke Ying and a large cat by the doorway, waiting for Chen Yuzhi, who would never return home.
