See You Tomorrow Recap
Episode 1 Recap
Ding Liaoliao, a new playwright-director for the "Wide-angle Jiangxia" show on DT Platform, lives with her younger brother, Ding Man. She often finds him not very bright and would prefer their sibling relationship not be mentioned on air. The house they share belongs to their uncle, who is doing research abroad and allowed them to stay there to keep it from being empty. Recently, two new tenants moved in.
One of them is a medical doctor and her uncle's friend, Jiang Kan. Based on his elusive WeChat profile, which lacked a photo, had a blank Moments feed, and only featured one-word replies, Ding Liaoliao and Ding Man speculated he was a cautious, rigid, and perhaps stubborn PhD in pharmacy in his forties, coming to Jiangxia as a project consultant for a medical company.
Ding Liaoliao was assigned to pick up Jiang Kan at the airport, though Ding Man vehemently refused to go, citing a larger generation gap. After losing a game of rock, paper, scissors, Ding Liaoliao was on her way, informing Jiang Kan that she might be half an hour late due to traffic.
Upon arrival, she mistakenly approached a middle-aged man wearing black, Mr. Jiang, who immediately began complaining about the parking lot signs, her tardiness, and insisting on an MPV and a five-star hotel. Jiang Kan then intervened, calling out "Ding Liaoliao," revealing her error. Mortified, she apologized, explaining her assumption about his age. Jiang Kan simply replied, "It's okay." Her attempts to engage him further about exploring Jiangxia were met with brief, unenthusiastic responses, making conversation difficult.
Back at the house, Ding Liaoliao welcomed Jiang Kan, offering him new shoes. She introduced him to Ding Man, who playfully teased her about "kidnapping" such a young and handsome "brother-in-law." Ding Liaoliao gave Jiang Kan a tour, enthusiastically describing the semi-open kitchen's convenience and full equipment, and the living room with its health-benefitting green plants and 4K TV.
Jiang Kan deadpanned if she was a real estate agent, prompting Ding Man to tell him not to mind his sister's "nagging." They then showed him the bedroom, where he replaced their clean bedding with his own, emphasizing that "personal belongings must be used." Ding Man later observed Jiang Kan's strict routines, noting he didn't eat after 8 PM, went for a morning run before 7 AM, and disinfected his room weekly, labeling him "exquisite."
They later marveled at Jiang Kan's accomplishments: a 28-year-old Qingbei University PhD in Pharmacy with international project experience. Despite his impressive credentials and handsome looks, they agreed he was "not that easy to get along with," concluding that the best way to interact with a Pharmacy PhD, especially for snack and milk tea lovers, was to speak less to avoid feeling overwhelmed by their own potential carcinogen intake. At the office, Ding Liaoliao focused on editing.
Her colleague, Dou, introduced Hu Jiaying, a new playwright-director who ranked first in the annual assessment. Hu Jiaying, a seemingly polite and talented newcomer, brought homemade cookies, which Ding Man's friend later found overly sweet but Ding Man defended as a product of her baking hobby.
Ding Man's friend also teased him about his low emotional intelligence and lack of a girlfriend, prompting Ding Man to describe his "ideal type": someone cool, valiant, unique, elegant, indifferent, and who preferred wearing all black, rather than being "lovey-dovey" or wearing pink and flowery clothes. Ding Liaoliao, seeing Jiang Kan, jokingly pointed out that he seemed to fit Ding Man's description.
That evening, Ding Liaoliao suggested she and Ding Man watch a movie and eat fried chicken, then offered to include Jiang Kan. They initially doubted he would join, thinking he'd prefer something "classier" than a romance film. However, Jiang Kan declined, stating he was "too sleepy" and went to bed unusually early for someone who usually stayed up till dawn. Ding Liaoliao tried to engage him further, asking if medical professionals were inherently healthier.
Jiang Kan responded scientifically, listing lifestyle, medical treatment, genetics, and even climate as health factors, subtly suggesting that her own late-night work habits could affect her brain and that "rest early may be more useful than walnuts." Ding Liaoliao interpreted this as him suggesting she needed "brain nourishment." The next day, while on location for outdoor filming at a university, Ding Liaoliao's team, including a somewhat nervous Hu Jiaying (who offered to buy water for everyone), prepared for a seminar.
Ding Liaoliao rushed off to get water and unexpectedly saw Jiang Kan. She tried to avoid him, but he spotted her. She awkwardly greeted him, praising him for attending the lecture despite his impressive credentials. Jiang Kan briefly mentioned the seminar's main speaker was a "guru" invited by the medical school. As Ding Liaoliao went to collect materials, she met Juzi, Jiang Kan's senior and fellow researcher from Qingshui.
Juzi recognized Ding Liaoliao from "Wide-angle Jiangxia" and immediately bonded with her over the difficulties of working, and especially living, with Jiang Kan. They commiserated, likening his intimidating silence to dozens of cawing crows, the elusive "Black Organization in Conan," and the unsettling atmosphere of "Silent Hill" wherever he was. Just then, Hu Jiaying approached Ding Liaoliao, excitedly mentioning that Professor Wang, the seminar host, had an "excellent" and "handsome" favorite disciple.
Ding Liaoliao initially dismissed the "handsome" part as a "wisdom halo" delusion. However, when Professor Wang introduced his pride, "Jiang Kan, a PhD from Xihua University, who recently transferred to Jiangxia," Ding Liaoliao's expression shifted to one of complete surprise as the pieces fell into place.
Episode 2 Recap
Ding Man, a charismatic Taekwondo coach, was often admired by young girls during his classes. After one class, a girl approached him directly, asking if he had a girlfriend. Ding Man politely declined her homemade cake, explaining that he rarely ate high-calorie food and had no plans to date unless he met someone truly special, which he believed would be difficult.
Later, while Ding Man was resting at a convenience store, he witnessed a middle school student, Xu Hao, being bullied by several other students. As he prepared to intervene, a woman stepped in, pretending to be Xu Hao's older sister. She calmly took photos of the bullies' name tags and warned them of the legal consequences for those aged sixteen and above.
She threatened that if they continued to bully Xu Hao, she would expose their actions, leading to public scorn. Ding Man found her intriguing and tried to approach her, but a stock worker accidentally bumped into him, and by the time he recovered, the woman had vanished. That evening, while driving Ding Liaoliao home, Ding Man listened to her complain about Jiang Kan. His mind, however, was preoccupied with the mysterious woman from the convenience store.
He asked Ding Liaoliao why someone would constantly yearn to see another person after only one meeting. Ding Liaoliao, without giving it much thought, suggested it was because they had encountered someone who truly made their heart flutter. For the next few days, Ding Man hoped for another encounter with the woman, but his efforts were unsuccessful. Meanwhile, Lian Geyao, the new host for "Wide-angle Jiangxia", had just finished recording her old show.
Hu Jiaying and other colleagues arrived to welcome her with flowers. Hu Jiaying attempted to get the WeChat contact of Lian Geyao's male co-host, a married news anchor, under the guise of professional consultation. Lian Geyao quickly diffused the situation by inviting her co-host to join a group photo with everyone. Later, colleagues privately discussed Lian Geyao's age and single status, but she feigned deafness.
Back at Ding Liaoliao's workplace, Jiang Kan's earlier remark about her not needing to wait for him to come home had fueled office gossip, with everyone assuming they were a couple. Ding Liaoliao's explanations were futile, leading her to believe Jiang Kan was intentionally tormenting her. She recalled an instance when she and Ding Man invited Jiang Kan to a movie, expecting his aloof, scholarly persona to decline.
To their surprise, Jiang Kan thoroughly enjoyed the film, making Ding Man and Ding Liaoliao uncomfortable. Ding Man eventually left to sleep, leaving Ding Liaoliao to engage in an awkward, desultory conversation with Jiang Kan, who then teased her about her intelligence. Another time, Ding Liaoliao spotted Jiang Kan walking and facetiously praised his "healthy" habit, driving off confidently. However, when she later went downstairs to pick up a package, she accidentally grabbed the wrong elevator card.
Seeing her predicament, Jiang Kan feigned interest in taking the stairs for exercise, carrying his boxes and joining her on the laborious climb. One day, two campus bullying victims approached Ding Liaoliao, providing her with a video of their ordeal. She submitted it as a story proposal, believing it had significant social and reporting value. However, the proposal was rejected due to its sensitive nature and involvement of minors.
Colleagues, like Dou, argued that airing the video could lead to doxing and further harm the victims. It was also revealed that the network's investor's son, Huang Siyuan, was involved in the bullying. This deeply saddened Ding Liaoliao, even though the victim had agreed to release the blurred video, hoping to raise awareness. Later, while her show was recording, Ding Liaoliao was astonished to hear Lian Geyao report on the exact campus bullying case.
Her colleagues revealed that Lian Geyao had confronted the director, taking full responsibility for any repercussions to ensure the story was aired. Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ding Liaoliao invited Lian Geyao to dinner. Lian Geyao emphasized the importance of discovering meaningful and valuable news, fulfilling their journalistic duty. During their meal, a man at a nearby table harassed a waitress, demanding she serve him wine and boasting about his position as a manager at Boyuan Real Estate.
Witnessing this, Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao, displaying their press badges, sat beside the man and firmly made him apologize. The waitress, however, asked him to clean the entire restaurant as a condition for accepting his apology, to which he grudgingly agreed.
Episode 3 Recap
Following the success of the previous medical special, Ding Liaoliao's director instructed her to conduct a follow-up interview with Dr. Jiang Kan. Despite being in a "cold war" with Jiang Kan, Ding Liaoliao reluctantly agreed, putting on a brave face for her director. She privately expressed her frustration to a colleague, lamenting that she had been in a cold war for days with "that emotionally-stunted block of ice" and the interview would be incredibly awkward.
Her colleague Juzi, a fan of Ding Liaoliao, later reminded Jiang Kan to prepare snacks and drinks for Ding Liaoliao since she would be working late. Jiang Kan dismissed the suggestion, remarking that there was water in the dispenser, and then assigned Juzi extra thesis translation work, causing her to quickly retreat. After work, Ding Liaoliao arrived at Jiang Kan's apartment building with her equipment.
As she ascended in the elevator, her documents spilled, and a gloomy Ding Liaoliao was surprised to find Jiang Kan returning from shopping. He helped her pick up the scattered papers. Ding Liaoliao mumbled that he was considerate enough to buy himself food while she worked overtime, to which Jiang Kan simply replied it was for his health. She then questioned his repeated refusals for interviews.
Jiang Kan explained that medicine is a serious profession, and doctors must be cautious with their words to avoid negative public opinion. He pointedly asked if she knew the cost of saying the wrong thing. Ding Liaoliao countered by recalling his past comment about not needing her to cook for him, which led her colleagues to believe they were secretly married. Jiang Kan asked for her interview outline, and after reviewing it, acknowledged her professionalism, which made Ding Liaoliao proud.
She asserted that she, Ding Liaoliao, was also a "cautious and serious journalist." The interview concluded with Jiang Kan providing additional general drug knowledge. After the interview, Ding Liaoliao invited Jiang Kan to dinner, mentioning she knew a good restaurant. Passing by a convenience store, she popped in and discovered her membership points were expiring, entitling her to two keychains. Without a second thought, she gave one to Jiang Kan, hanging it on his bag.
Just as they were about to head to dinner, a man suddenly collapsed on the street. Jiang Kan immediately identified himself as a doctor and began CPR while Ding Liaoliao called 120, providing the location and the man's name, Liu Zhiguo, which she found on his ID. After eight minutes of continuous chest compressions, Liu Zhiguo's pulse and heartbeat weakly returned as the ambulance arrived. The ambulance staff noted Jiang Kan's extended effort.
Ding Liaoliao observed a cut on Jiang Kan's hand. She bought a band-aid and gently applied it, as his hand was too tired from the compressions. Walking home, Ding Liaoliao expressed her regret about missing their dinner reservation but praised Jiang Kan's heroic actions. She jokingly asked if he was secretly rich, as she'd heard that "only rich people dare to go up to save people with bare hands."
Jiang Kan shared a story about a friend who saved a life but broke the patient's two ribs during CPR and faced a large compensation claim. Ding Liaoliao found it unfair, but Jiang Kan believed a life was worth two ribs. He then asked if she was scared, as she too could have faced legal responsibilities if the patient had not survived.
Ding Liaoliao confidently stated she wasn't afraid, trusting his professionalism, and that saving a life was never a loss, only a regret if they couldn't. Jiang Kan concluded that this was the "greatest charm of medicine." Back home, as Jiang Kan went to shower, Ding Liaoliao reminded him to keep his wound dry. Ding Man saw Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan chatting happily and teased them about acting in an "idol drama."
Ding Liaoliao recounted Jiang Kan's rescue, then noticed Ding Man watching "Wide-angle Jiangxia" on TV. She initially thought he was finally supporting her show, but Ding Man was actually watching for Kang Geyao. Later, Jiang Kan emerged from his shower to find Ding Liaoliao asleep on the couch. He gently took the remote, startling her awake, then simply thanked her and wished her good night. The next day at the office, Ding Liaoliao shared the rescue story with her colleagues.
Hu Jiaying, after some light teasing, subtly inquired if Jiang Kan had a girlfriend, mentioning her mother's wish for her to date a doctor. Ding Liaoliao informed her that Jiang Kan did not seem to have a girlfriend. She then dismissed the idea of dating a doctor, claiming "all men are the same," and doctors are too busy, suggesting patients are their true "love." However, another colleague pointed out that without Jiang Kan, the man would have died.
During a team meeting, the director expressed strong dissatisfaction with the recent project proposals, criticizing them as lacking depth, especially compared to their successful medical and campus bullying specials. Hu Jiaying suggested a topic on "Silent Passers-by," mentioning a trending Weibo topic. She then asked Ding Liaoliao if she had recorded the recent rescue, as it would make excellent material.
Ding Liaoliao explained that her friend, Jiang Kan, was injured, and her priority was to help him, so she didn't record. Hu Jiaying called it "a pity," which angered Ding Liaoliao, who retorted that saving a life should never be considered a pity. She promised to record such events in the future if conditions allowed. The director then urged everyone, especially the producers, to go out, observe, think, and gather more meaningful and valuable content.
To facilitate his secret admiration for Kang Geyao, Ding Man continued to borrow Ding Liaoliao's car daily and pick her up from work. Ding Liaoliao grew suspicious, questioning if he liked a colleague. Ding Man deflected, claiming he needed the car for "observational studies" at other institutions and was simply being a kind "driver." Ding Liaoliao, wanting to follow the director's advice to find news material, decided to take the bus that day.
Meanwhile, Ding Man, driving Ding Liaoliao's car, caught sight of Kang Geyao getting into another man's car. He quickly took a picture and remarked on her "bad aesthetics" in a self-conscious attempt to play it cool. Ding Liaoliao then spotted Jiang Kan on her bus. She explained that she wasn't driving today because she was looking for news material, adhering to the director's emphasis on being closer to life and people for observation.
Jiang Kan mentioned he had a seminar, which was why he was getting off work late. Seizing the opportunity, Ding Liaoliao invited him to dinner again, wanting to make up for their missed reservation. At the Sichuan restaurant, Ding Liaoliao enthusiastically described it as her and Ding Man's monthly go-to spot. She teased Jiang Kan about rarely driving, linking it to his Scorpio trait of "cherishing life," similar to her father.
She then shared a humorous anecdote about her father, a fellow Scorpio, going to the hospital for an IV to reduce the swelling from a mosquito bite. Jiang Kan laughed heartily, a rare sight that delighted Ding Liaoliao. She commented on his infrequent smiles, recalling Juzi's remark about him being more intimidating than professors, and encouraged him to smile more often. She then took his picture, playfully urging him to smile for the camera.
Episode 4 Recap
A new student named Lian Geyao arrived at the taekwondo gym, much to Ding Man's surprise. The children were excited to see her and clamored for Ding Man and Lian Geyao to spar. Ding Man, assuming she was a beginner, intended to go easy on her, but he was quickly thrown to the ground by Lian Geyao. As she extended a hand to help him up, Ding Man accidentally stumbled and fell onto her.
Their eyes met, creating an awkward atmosphere until the children's cheers broke the tension. When they left the taekwondo gym, it was pouring rain, and Ding Man offered Lian Geyao his umbrella. Later, as Ding Liaoliao was leaving work, she offered to give Lian Geyao a ride home, but Lian Geyao initially declined. However, Ding Liaoliao then noticed an umbrella hanging in Lian Geyao's office that looked familiar.
She commented that it seemed like her brother Ding Man's umbrella, pointing out a specific sticker on the handle that was his unique mark, lamenting that Ding Man was a "spendthrift" who lost umbrellas frequently. Upon hearing this, Lian Geyao immediately changed her mind and accepted the ride home.
Ding Man was ecstatic to see Lian Geyao get into his car, so focused on her that he didn't hear Ding Liaoliao repeatedly ask him to lower the air conditioning temperature because it was hot. While in the car, Lian Geyao received a call from her landlord, informing her she needed to move out. She expressed her frustration, having experienced similar situations before.
Without thinking, Ding Liaoliao impulsively invited Lian Geyao to move into their house, and Lian Geyao promptly agreed, asking when she could move in as she was not busy. Ding Liaoliao and Ding Man were stunned; there was no spare room in their house, and the only vacant storage room had severe water leakage problems from the recent rainy season.
Ding Liaoliao considered explaining the situation to Lian Geyao and helping her find another place, but Ding Man refused to miss the chance to live with the woman he admired. He enthusiastically suggested that Lian Geyao move into his room, and he would temporarily move into the storage room after it was repaired and painted, even if it meant sleeping on the sofa for a few days.
Ding Liaoliao immediately rejected this idea, stating it would be inconvenient for Lian Geyao to have Ding Man constantly in the living room for daily activities like washing and using the toilet. Instead, she proposed that Ding Man temporarily move in with Jiang Kan. Ding Man was skeptical that Jiang Kan, given his personality, would agree to share a room. Ding Liaoliao assured him she had a "plan" to convince Jiang Kan.
To get Jiang Kan to agree to Ding Man staying with him, Ding Liaoliao embarked on a campaign of "bitter tricks" and persistent kindness. Early the next morning, she drove Jiang Kan to a remote research institution in the suburbs for an academic seminar, preparing food and drinks for him in the car. She offered to wait for him, despite his protests about the long hours.
Jiang Kan's colleagues, Gao Xiang and Cao Jiaxing, mistakenly thought Ding Liaoliao was Jiang Kan's girlfriend. Cao Jiaxing called her "sister-in-law" and commented on their "love story" after the seminar, teasing Jiang Kan. Ding Liaoliao waited for eight hours in the car, only to be caught napping when Jiang Kan finally emerged. Despite her feigned exhaustion, Jiang Kan revealed he knew she had used the waiting time to get a spa and eat barbecue, foiling her 'bitter trick'.
Later, Ding Liaoliao decided to try a "beauty trick" on Jiang Kan, dramatically falling into his arms. Jiang Kan, however, was unimpressed and simply put her back on the ground. Ultimately, Ding Liaoliao and Ding Man secured Jiang Kan's agreement for Ding Man to temporarily stay with him by signing a "Cooperation Compensation Agreement" with twenty clauses.
Ding Liaoliao grumbled about the "unequal" terms, but Jiang Kan, ever so strict, pointed out that the agreement was rushed and he would add more details later. Ding Liaoliao and Ding Man could only express their exasperation. The next day at work, Juzi discussed Jiang Kan's Scorpio zodiac sign with colleagues, noting that such men are often "scheming," especially when they like someone. Meanwhile, the program team decided to produce a follow-up to their successful medical special.
Jiang Kan was surprisingly one of the three featured experts. To avoid dealing with Jiang Kan, Ding Liaoliao volunteered to interview the other two experts. Her first choice, Professor Liu, a retired pediatric professor from No.3 Provincial Hospital, required an "experienced" director, a task assigned to Dou. Her second choice, Dr. Lv, the head of the Male Reproduction Division at the City Center Hospital, was assigned to Xu.
Despite Ding Liaoliao's attempts to evade the assignment, including claiming a fortune teller told her she "doesn't get along with anyone named Jiang" for fear of negatively impacting the show, the director insisted she interview Jiang Kan, even allowing a new colleague to join her team. Ding Liaoliao then publicly called Jiang Kan to try and prove their incompatibility and get out of the assignment.
Episode 5 Recap
Jiang Kan answered Ding Liaoliao’s call, fully aware of her intentions. However, he wouldn’t miss an opportunity to see her discomfited. When Ding Liaoliao asked if he would choose someone else for the special project, acknowledging their past difficult collaboration, Jiang Kan replied that he had actually enjoyed their previous cooperation. He praised her as a serious and responsible person and said he would be very happy to work with her again.
Shortly after, the director confirmed that Ding Liaoliao would be responsible for interviewing and filming Jiang Kan, leaving her no chance to refuse. Jiang Kan, however, informed her that he could only meet after 8 p. m. as he had papers to revise. Ms. Lian called Ding Liaoliao to ask if they would cook at home or eat out that night, as she planned to move in.
Ding Liaoliao explained that she had a meeting and would be home late, so she couldn't help her move. Ms. Lian assured her it was fine and she could manage by herself. Ding Liaoliao mused that her brother, Ding Man, was also unreliable, wondering if he would be home that night. Ding Man continued his daily routine of waiting for Ms. Lian at the convenience store after work, and this day, his persistence paid off.
He observed Ms. Lian interacting with children, one of whom compared her favorably to his own sister, Ding Liaoliao, calling Ms. Lian "both pretty and capable" and "different from my sister." Ding Man appeared shy and awkward when Ms. Lian playfully suggested she had installed a tracker on him, right on his shoulder. Ding Man then gathered the courage to ask Ms. Lian why she decided to move into his house so quickly, given the many nice houses in Jiangxia.
Ms. Lian simply responded, "Because of you." Ding Man, still shy, believed she was joking. Then, to his surprise, Ms. Lian casually mentioned she was moving into his apartment in Minghe Community that very day. Ding Liaoliao led her team to meet Jiang Kan to discuss the filming process. During the meeting, Hu Jiaying made an effort to get closer to Jiang Kan, but he deliberately sat next to Ding Liaoliao and asked for the same drink she was having.
Ding Liaoliao presented their plan to record his daily work and asked about the institute's customs, mentioning concerns about disturbing their work with a large team. Jiang Kan stated that the institute had visitor restrictions and suggested that since Ding Liaoliao was familiar with the area and would be driving him to the lab, she could just follow and film him alone. When Ding Liaoliao seemed hesitant, Jiang Kan subtly threatened to withdraw from the program if she was unwilling.
Faced with this, Ding Liaoliao reluctantly agreed, assuring him she was happy to do the work. Ms. Lian officially moved into the Ding household. Ding Man enthusiastically showed her around her room, pointing out new furniture like the wardrobe, table, and an adjustable chair, clearly having put a lot of thought into the preparations. Ms. Lian expressed her satisfaction with everything in the house.
Ding Man seemed too shy to make eye contact, so Ms. Lian jokingly asked if she looked fierce. Ding Man quickly denied it, saying she was "more gentle and prettier than on TV," which Ms. Lian found amusing, noting it was the first time someone said she wasn't photogenic. Ding Man, flustered, tried to get her some water but stumbled, falling to one knee.
Just as Ms. Lian reached out to help him up, Jiang Kan and Ding Liaoliao returned home, creating an extremely awkward situation. Jiang Kan commented, "You don't have to be so polite." Ding Man introduced Jiang Kan to Ms. Lian. Ding Liaoliao then remarked that Ms. Lian and Jiang Kan, both being elites, seemed like "a perfect match," to which Ding Man immediately disagreed.
Later that evening, Ding Liaoliao showed Ms. Lian childhood photos of herself, revealing she was a tomboy, and Ding Man, who their mother had dressed as a little girl. Ms. Lian and Ding Liaoliao burst into laughter, much to Ding Man’s embarrassment. He tried to brush it off, saying all boys experienced such things and asked Jiang Kan if his childhood was similar.
Jiang Kan, of course, denied it, but his subtly unnatural expression caused Ding Liaoliao and Ms. Lian to share a knowing smile and laugh again. Ding Liaoliao then went to Jiang Kan's room to discuss the shooting schedule, bringing him a detailed plan. Jiang Kan remarked that she didn't seem willing to work with him, referencing her laughter in the living room.
Ding Liaoliao, feeling a grudge from him, read aloud a formal pledge outlining her professional conduct for the shoot. She also told him that she intended to start gathering material immediately, not just during the official shoot, to enrich their vlog, and advised him to get used to being constantly in front of the camera. When Jiang Kan stared at her through the camera lens, Ding Liaoliao became flustered and quickly made an excuse to leave.
The next day, as Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan walked to work together, they were repeatedly mistaken for a married couple by their neighbors, which made Ding Liaoliao uncomfortable. Jiang Kan, however, seemed secretly pleased. At the laboratory, Jiang Kan’s junior colleagues enthusiastically greeted Ding Liaoliao as "sister-in-law."
They informed her that Jiang Kan had no dating experience and advised her to be patient and understanding with him, even offering to explain things further like his "lack of skills in kissing." Ding Liaoliao tried to clarify their relationship, but her explanations were ignored, and Jiang Kan did not deny the colleagues' assumptions, only silencing a particularly talkative junior by assigning him a heavy translation task due the next day.
Ding Liaoliao filmed Jiang Kan as he led a meeting. Noticing her visible fatigue, Jiang Kan ended the meeting earlier than planned. Afterwards, their teacher announced in a group chat that they needed to record a CPR instructional video for the institute’s website. The colleagues, eager to avoid being on camera for the "annual Shame Meeting," quickly suggested Jiang Kan and Ding Liaoliao, emphasizing the importance of new faces for such a vital, charitable project.
Ding Liaoliao felt extremely nervous at the thought of performing CPR with Jiang Kan, though she adamantly denied it was due to him. Jiang Kan provocatively commented, "This is a bargain for you." Just as they were about to begin, a junior arrived with a mannequin. Ding Liaoliao immediately jumped up, clearly relieved. The junior remarked to others that Jiang Kan was indeed a Scorpio, implying this was another one of his pranks.
Later, a colleague gave Ding Liaoliao two complimentary tickets for a weekend trip to Longwan Resort, worth five thousand yuan, explaining that she had a shoot and couldn't use them. Ding Liaoliao complained to the colleague about her difficult day with Jiang Kan, having only eaten cookies. She then tried to find someone to accompany her, but everyone she asked was busy.
She called Jiang Kan to inquire if any of his juniors, like Juzi or Wen Ya, had time, as she didn't want the tickets to go to waste. After checking his schedule, Jiang Kan informed her that all his juniors had experiments, but then added, "But I have time." That night, Ding Liaoliao discussed Jiang Kan's offer with Ding Man, suspecting he had ulterior motives.
She worried he might be planning revenge for her past deception, even suggesting he might "find a remote place to bury me alive" on the island. Ding Man dismissed her concerns, suggesting she was overthinking and that Jiang Kan probably just wanted a "maid to take care of him" while he relaxed. He then pointed out that Ding Liaoliao herself had been diligently applying facial masks, implying she was the one with "bad intentions" for the trip.
Before Ding Man went to his room, he asked Ding Liaoliao about Ms. Lian's preferred dishes, intending to cook for her while Ding Liaoliao was away. As he left, Ding Man went to Jiang Kan's room and cautioned him to "take care of yourself when you go out tomorrow. Women are too dangerous. Especially Ding Liaoliao." The following day, Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan boarded a bus to Longwan Resort.
Despite their awkward and reserved demeanor, an older passenger immediately mistook them for a newly dating couple, offering unsolicited advice and commenting on Jiang Kan's attentiveness when he told Ding Liaoliao to sit down for safety. Ding Liaoliao repeatedly tried to correct the passenger, but Jiang Kan simply told her to sit still, reinforcing the misconception.
Episode 6 Recap
Ding Man, working as a coach, was training his students when a new trial student arrived, Lian Geyao. To his surprise, Lian Geyao revealed that she was his new roommate, currently renting a room at his house. One of the students, a child, innocently asked if they were husband and wife, causing a moment of awkwardness before Ding Man quickly silenced him.
Lian Geyao then challenged Ding Man to a sparring match, saying she hadn't practiced since her last coach got injured. Despite Ding Man's initial attempts to go easy on her, Lian Geyao urged him to use his full strength, leading to an intense match that ended with the students cheering for a "kiss." Later, Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan arrived at a resort, where they discovered their VIP couple-package tickets only permitted them to share a double bedroom.
Ding Liaoliao explained that they were not a couple and asked if they could pay for another room, but the receptionist informed them that all other rooms were fully booked due to an anniversary celebration, leaving only the couple's room available. Jiang Kan accepted, noting that since they had already come, they couldn't turn back, and he assured Ding Liaoliao he wouldn't take advantage of her.
Settling into the room, Ding Liaoliao admired the spacious, soft bed and commented on the excellent sound insulation, unlike previous hotels where she could often hear neighbors "talking about work" late at night. The awkward implication of her words hung in the air, prompting them to go for a walk.
As they strolled by the sea, Ding Liaoliao shared childhood memories of growing up by the ocean with Ding Man, swimming, collecting shells, and even getting into fights with other children, which often resulted in them being "dragged home by their parents."
She recalled being a "dark" child, calling herself "the African daughter of the sea," and how she dreamt of returning to the coast in her old age to enjoy the sunrise and sunset, fishing, or reading a book wrapped in a blanket. She then asked Jiang Kan to take photos of her. Afterwards, she insisted on taking photos of him as well, despite his reluctance.
She directed his poses and, impressed by her own photography skills, complimented how handsome he looked in the picture. She playfully suggested he hire her as his personal photographer, touting her "low price, high quality" services. Jiang Kan left for the restaurant first, while Ding Liaoliao followed later. In the lobby, she encountered her ex-boyfriend, Jiang Cheng, and his fiancée, who used to be Ding Liaoliao's friend.
Jiang Cheng's fiancée immediately approached Ding Liaoliao, subtly mocking her unchanged "plain" appearance like a university student. Ding Liaoliao retorted that she looked more mature and fashionable now. The fiancée then pressed Ding Liaoliao about why she stopped contacting them after graduation, lamenting the loss of their close friendship. Ding Liaoliao sharply responded, asking if she ever felt pity when discarding trash, implying that's how she viewed their past relationship.
Unfazed, the fiancée proudly announced her upcoming wedding to Jiang Cheng at the resort the following Sunday and invited Ding Liaoliao to witness it. Ding Liaoliao declined, citing a forecast of "thundershower and gale," and wished them a smooth wedding. The fiancée accused Ding Liaoliao of still being jealous of her relationship with Jiang Cheng.
Ding Liaoliao scoffed, stating that only the fiancée would find being with Jiang Cheng "something to be jealous of," adding that Jiang Cheng was lucky his girlfriend had such "bad taste." Jiang Cheng's fiancée was furious and confronted him about not defending her, accusing him of implying Ding Liaoliao was right. Jiang Cheng tried to placate her by promising to buy her favorite strawberry mousse. Jiang Kan, overhearing the conversation while waiting in line, decided to take subtle revenge.
When it was his turn, he bought all six remaining strawberry mousses, leaving none for Jiang Cheng's fiancée, who could only fume in frustration. That night, Ding Liaoliao lay awake in the bed, while Jiang Kan slept on the sofa. She asked if he was asleep and then initiated a conversation, remarking on the discomfort of sleeping on the sofa and playfully teasing him about her "real intentions."
Jiang Kan then moved towards her bed, making Ding Liaoliao nervous, but he merely retrieved his pillow. Embarrassed by her misunderstanding, Ding Liaoliao then asked him about his childhood, recalling that he had not shared his stories earlier in the day. Jiang Kan recounted how his parents, both hospital workers, were often busy, so he spent his early years with his grandparents.
He mostly read books or played in their garden, which contained many medicinal plants, including a sweet apricot tree his grandpa cherished. He looked forward to summer when his grandma would use the apricots to make delicious almond sauce, amber almonds, and almond tofu, especially for him when he had a cough. He fondly recalled thinking of sweet apricots as "the best medicine in the world."
He believed his decision to study medicine and focus on pharmaceutical research was influenced by his childhood wish to develop "sweet" and "healing" sugar-coated pills for children. As Ding Liaoliao drifted off to sleep, Jiang Kan watched her and quietly remarked that she was "just like a sweet apricot." Meanwhile, Ding Man was feeling lonely at home, so Lian Geyao took him shopping for groceries, promising to cook him a meal.
Her cooking skills, however, proved to be dismal; she cut potato shreds into large chunks and even accidentally cut her hand. Ding Man quickly tended to her wound, then made her sit and watch as he expertly cooked. Watching him, Lian Geyao felt her affection for him grow. The next day at the resort, a couple's competition was announced, which Jiang Kan initially had no interest in joining. Jiang Cheng and his fiancée again confronted Ding Liaoliao.
The fiancée made nasty remarks, calling Ding Liaoliao unfeminine and implying no man would like her. Seeing Ding Liaoliao's hurt expression, Jiang Kan promptly registered himself and Ding Liaoliao for the competition, declaring he wanted the grand prize—a large teddy bear. Ding Liaoliao teased him, calling him the "purest boy in the medical field" for his love of cakes and a big bear, to which Jiang Kan simply called her by her full name.
Jiang Cheng's fiancée attempted to intervene, asking about their relationship, but Jiang Kan shut her down, stating they didn't need to report to her. When the fiancée continued to disparage Ding Liaoliao's "bad temper," Jiang Kan replied that he found their relationship "quite sweet," unlike Jiang Cheng and his fiancée, who seemed "so jealous." Ding Liaoliao later clarified to Jiang Kan that the man was her ex-boyfriend and the woman was her former friend, who became "the other woman."
Jiang Kan found the term "the other woman" amusing coming from Ding Liaoliao. The competition began with a "Draw Something" round, where Jiang Kan and Ding Liaoliao demonstrated remarkable synergy, quickly guessing terms like "An arrow through the heart," "Glancing back prettily," and "Undivided attention." Jiang Cheng's team struggled, failing to guess "Kill two birds with one stone." The second round was a traditional three-legged race. With incredible teamwork, Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan secured first place, winning the coveted big bear. Meanwhile, Jiang Cheng's fiancée chastised him for their loss.
Episode 7 Recap
Upon Ding Liaoliao's return home, Ding Man immediately complained about Jiang Kan's eccentric behavior, wishing she had stayed away longer or even sold Jiang Kan, who he thought could fetch a price with his looks. Ding Liaoliao wondered why, unlike other roommates whose relationships improved over time, theirs seemed to worsen. Ding Man passionately recounted Jiang Kan's unreasonable demands, which he had recently added to their existing agreement.
These "small requests," as Jiang Kan called them, included the bedroom trash can always needing to be empty, requiring him to wash his hair, shower, and change into pajamas before bed, and forbidding him from lying on the bed after waking up or before 8 PM.
Ding Man described how, one night, he accidentally placed his hand on Jiang Kan's waist while sleeping, only for Jiang Kan to immediately kick him off the bed, leaving him with a bruise that hadn't faded after three days. When Ding Man questioned where he should go if he couldn't lie on the bed, Jiang Kan retorted by reiterating that the trash can must remain empty. Ding Man, frustrated, declared, "Dr. Jiang, I surrender."
Ding Liaoliao, finding humor in his plight, suggested that perhaps this was Jiang Kan's way of showing affection. Later, Ding Man struggled to apply a patch to his injury and asked Jiang Kan for help, lamenting about how strong Jiang Kan’s kick was. Jiang Kan remarked that Ding Man, despite being a taekwondo teacher, seemed quite fragile.
This ignited Ding Man's pride, prompting him to flex his muscles and challenge Jiang Kan to a "take off your shirt" contest to see who was stronger. Jiang Kan reminded Ding Man that he had been the one to actively choose to share the room and, later, to sleep in his bed rather than on the floor. Ding Man, however, defiantly chose to sleep on the sofa, mumbling that he couldn't believe Jiang Kan was so heartless.
Unbeknownst to them, Lian Geyao overheard parts of their conversation from outside, leading her to mistakenly believe that Ding Man and Jiang Kan were in a romantic relationship. Seeing Ding Man shivering on the sofa, Lian Geyao, moved by pity, gently covered him with a blanket. The next morning, Ding Liaoliao discovered Ding Man wearing her hoodie and scolded him, asking why a grown man would constantly wear his sister's clothes.
Ding Man, unconcerned, responded that her clothes were androgynous and that some even looked better on him. He explained that he was still upset with Jiang Kan and didn't want to return to their bedroom. During breakfast, Ding Man and Jiang Kan clashed again while reaching for the milk, further reinforcing Lian Geyao's misunderstanding of their relationship.
After the meal, Lian Geyao attempted to speak with Ding Liaoliao about it, but Jiang Kan interrupted, saying Ding Liaoliao had to leave to drop him off before going to an outdoor shoot. Ding Liaoliao then went with a colleague to a children's hospital to film material for a segment on childhood flu. While there, Ding Liaoliao engaged playfully with a child, making faces at him.
From a distance, Jiang Kan's colleague pointed out Ding Liaoliao, and Jiang Kan, observing the interaction, couldn't help but smile. Later, Lian Geyao spotted Jiang Kan leaving the hospital with a female colleague. Misinterpreting the situation, she suspected Jiang Kan was having an affair. Upon returning home, Lian Geyao heard Ding Man talking on the phone, telling the person on the other end to go be with another girl, saying she was the one who needed him most.
When Lian Geyao called out to Ding Man, she found him teary-eyed from cutting onions. Mistaking his tears for heartbreak over a breakup, Lian Geyao compassionately embraced him just as Jiang Kan walked through the door. That evening during dinner, Lian Geyao repeatedly took jabs at Jiang Kan, pointedly giving him green vegetables and remarking that the color suited him—an insinuation that he was a cheater. Jiang Kan remained utterly bewildered by her hostility.
Ding Liaoliao also noticed Lian Geyao's unfriendly demeanor, but Jiang Kan claimed to have no idea what he had done to offend her. He then commented that Lian Geyao and Ding Man seemed like a more suitable match, further deepening Lian Geyao's misperception. The following day, Lian Geyao called Ding Man out, declaring that she "knew everything" and intended to help him relax.
Still misinterpreting his situation, she took him on an unexpected shopping spree, believing it was the best way for him to forget his "pain." In the parking lot, Lian Geyao encountered Jiang Kan and his colleague, Yi Fan. She began to speak, seemingly to confront Jiang Kan on Ding Man's behalf, but Yi Fan, a fan of Lian Geyao, gushed about how much she admired her and quickly left with Jiang Kan.
As Ding Man emerged from the store, Lian Geyao instinctively covered his eyes, preventing him from seeing Jiang Kan and Yi Fan depart. That night, Lian Geyao, fueled by her misunderstanding, conveyed Ding Man's supposed plight to Ding Liaoliao, and the two women, now very drunk, sympathized with him. In her drunken state, Ding Liaoliao called Jiang Kan, loudly accusing him of being "heartless, cold-blooded, and cruel," a tirade overheard by everyone present with Jiang Kan.
When Ding Man and Jiang Kan arrived at the KTV where the women were, Lian Geyao and Ding Liaoliao continued to berate Jiang Kan, calling him "not a man." Unable to reason with them, Jiang Kan and Ding Man decided to split up and take them home. On the way back, Lian Geyao, still in high spirits, performed as a weatherman, accurately predicting temperatures. She then launched into a song, asking Ding Man for a score.
Ding Man enthusiastically gave her a hundred points, which prompted Lian Geyao to lean in and kiss him, much to Ding Man's delight. Lian Geyao then urged Ding Man not to like Jiang Kan, saying he didn't deserve it. Ding Man, however, gently replied that he had never liked anyone else.
Episode 8 Recap
The day after their drunken antics, Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao awoke to realize their grave misunderstanding of Ding Man and Jiang Kan. Ding Man, indignant, berated the two women, emphasizing the deep hurt Jiang Kan had endured and demanding restitution. Ding Liaoliao, displaying profound remorse, offered to cook for them that evening, a "buy one get one free" gesture not counting towards her penance. Jiang Kan, however, politely declined, stating his intention to visit a bookstore that afternoon.
Ding Liaoliao immediately volunteered to accompany him to help carry books, and despite Jiang Kan's protests, she insisted on going, proudly proclaiming her strength and willingness to "carry knowledge." At the bookstore, Jiang Kan directed Ding Liaoliao to browse while he proceeded to the cashier. Ding Liaoliao was delighted to discover a new book by her favorite mystery writer, Zhong Yu.
At the checkout, she observed a man ahead of her struggling to pay; having recently returned from overseas, he lacked RMB and could only offer francs. Noticing he, too, was purchasing Zhong Yu's book, Ding Liaoliao stepped in to pay for his purchase, playfully suggesting it was her contribution to boosting Zhong Yu's sales. The shared admiration for Zhong Yu's work sparked an easy conversation between them.
When Jiang Kan returned, he found Ding Liaoliao and the man chatting animatedly, a sight that left him feeling a mix of complex emotions. The man quickly excused himself, and as Ding Liaoliao helped Jiang Kan with his armload of heavy, English medical books, she excitedly recounted her encounter with the "handsome guy" who also liked Zhong Yu, oblivious to Jiang Kan's unspoken feelings.
Meanwhile, Lian Geyao, when pressed about her own compensation, told Ding Man that her earlier demands were merely jokes aimed at Ding Liaoliao. To make amends, she suggested they go out to see "The Lion King," envisioning him as "Pumbaa" alongside her "Simba." Unfortunately, tickets for "The Lion King" were sold out, but a classic replay of "The Shining" was available.
Despite Ding Man's initial bravado about growing up watching horror movies, he spent most of "The Shining" terrified, clinging to Lian Geyao and repeatedly asking when the film would end. Back at Ding Liaoliao's workplace, a conversation about Zhong Yu arose after a microphone needed repair. Lian Geyao explained that Zhong Yu was the most popular mystery novelist in China, much admired by her brother.
When a colleague remarked on Zhong Yu's elusive public presence, Lian Geyao clarified that he simply never showed his face. Soon after, their boss, Dou, announced that Zhong Yu would be holding his first signing session in Jiangxia and would grant an exclusive interview to one media outlet. Ding Liaoliao, brimming with enthusiasm, immediately volunteered, vowing to secure the interview herself. She confidently declared her status as a "loyal reader" who deeply understood Zhong Yu's creative spirit.
Later, at the cultural company where the interview negotiations were taking place, Ding Liaoliao encountered the man from the bookstore once more. Mistaking him for a fellow journalist vying for the same exclusive, she cheerfully introduced herself as Ding Liaoliao. The man replied that she could call him Ma. Believing they were competitors, Ding Liaoliao confidently asserted her determination to win the interview and even offered him some "advice."
She demonstrated her profound knowledge of Zhong Yu's works, citing intricate details that led her to conclude that his idol was the Japanese mystery master, Yi Yi. She pointed out recurring motifs in Zhong Yu's novels: all protagonists sharing an October 21st birthday, their dualistic personalities (liking both Tchaikovsky and Doraemon), and the signature act of leaving a wet shirt at crime scenes.
She highlighted a clear tribute in "Curtain Down," where a character bore a "broken palm" tattoo, a direct nod to Yi Yi's "Goth Broken Palm Incident" masterpiece. Ding Liaoliao's extensive knowledge evidently impressed, as she soon triumphantly announced to her colleagues that she had secured the exclusive interview. She expressed surprise at the speed of the decision, having talked with Zhong Yu's manager for less than twenty minutes.
Lost in a fantasy, she envisioned herself standing beside Zhong Yu, gazing into his handsome face, and embracing him warmly. Lian Geyao, equally excited, offered to join her, as she had no work on Wednesday. However, the moment of revelation arrived when Lian Geyao watched a video of Zhong Yu being interviewed abroad. She gasped as she recognized him—it was Ma, the man from the bookstore and the cultural company. She exclaimed to Ding Liaoliao that "he is Zhong Yu!"
Ding Liaoliao was stunned, realizing she had casually chatted with her idol, whom she'd mistaken for a fellow professional. She chastised herself for her foolishness, marveling at how handsome he was. Lian Geyao speculated that Zhong Yu himself might have specifically chosen Ding Liaoliao for the interview, sending Ding Liaoliao into a flurry of ecstatic cries about meeting her idol in person.
As the two women gushed over Zhong Yu's attractiveness, Jiang Kan and Ding Man, who had been listening, arrived. Jiang Kan dismissed their infatuation, deeming their judgment unscientific, while a jealous Ding Man insisted Zhong Yu was not as handsome as Jiang Kan, and Jiang Kan added that he was not as sunny as Ding Man. On the day of the signing event, Ding Man and Jiang Kan secretly attended.
To gain entry, they were told they needed to purchase 100 books. Undeterred, they bought an entire stack of over 200 books, instructing the cashier to leave them for other fans, as they only wanted the entry tickets. Inside, Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao were excitedly taking selfies.
Ding Man and Jiang Kan quietly grumbled about the fans' adoration of Zhong Yu, but their murmurs were overheard by nearby fans, who promptly told them to move, as their height was blocking the view. The host then introduced Zhong Yu to roaring applause. During the Q&A, Zhong Yu spoke about finding inspiration from nature during scenic drives abroad.
Still stewing in their jealousy, Ding Man and Jiang Kan continued to disparage Zhong Yu, calling him less handsome and sunny than themselves and accusing him of merely "showing his face to cheat girls out of their money." A fervent fan overheard their comments and aggressively challenged them, defending Zhong Yu as a "master of suspense" and accusing them of disrupting the event. Later, the host announced a lucky fan interaction segment.
Jiang Kan, caught up in the moment, called out "Me!" along with other audience members, and to his astonishment, he was chosen. Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao, seated in the audience, were shocked to see Jiang Kan on stage, wondering why he had feigned disinterest in Zhong Yu. When asked to describe Zhong Yu, Jiang Kan awkwardly repeated Ding Liaoliao's earlier, effusive description: "You can tell his handsome elegance through his words."
Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao exchanged knowing glances, amused. Jiang Kan was then tasked with performing an "intimate six-consecutive shot" photoshoot with Zhong Yu for the cameras, which he did with visibly stiff and reluctant movements, much to the private amusement of Ding Liaoliao and Lian Geyao. After the event, Zhong Yu discussed follow-up interviews with Ding Liaoliao. Jiang Kan, making the excuse that he had forgotten his keys, insisted on going home with Ding Liaoliao.
She introduced Jiang Kan to Zhong Yu as her roommate and the "lucky reader." Jiang Kan attempted to deny his fandom, but Ding Liaoliao intervened, encouraging him to take a photo with Zhong Yu and assuring him there was "nothing embarrassing" about being a fan. Ding Man, also wanting a photo, was then pulled away by Jiang Kan, who insisted it was late and time to go home. Ding Liaoliao then introduced Ding Man and Lian Geyao to Zhong Yu.
Ding Man, still jealous, interjected that Lian Geyao was a "gold medal anchor" and "much more famous" than Zhong Yu, prompting Lian Geyao to quickly hush him. Zhong Yu then graciously invited everyone to dinner as a thank you. Ding Man immediately refused, stating their preference for eating at home with fried chicken, pizza, and games. However, Lian Geyao quickly suggested that Zhong Yu join them at their place for dinner, claiming it would be more lively for playing games. Zhong Yu accepted, provided they didn't mind. Ding Man started to voice his objection, but Lian Geyao swiftly cut him off, assuring Zhong Yu that they absolutely did not mind.
Episode 9 Recap
After a lively dinner gathering, Ding Liaoliao suggested playing a game called "Of Course." The rules were simple: participants would play rock, paper, scissors, and the winner could ask any question. The person asked had to respond "Of course" unconditionally, or face a punishment. Jiang Kan and Zhong Yu started the game, their interactions quickly becoming intense. When Zhong Yu playfully asked Jiang Kan if he would choose a dog over Ding Liaoliao, Jiang Kan hesitated.
Unable to answer immediately, he accepted the punishment, then explained he was allergic to dogs. Jiang Kan then fired back with probing questions about Zhong Yu's marital status and divorce, to which Zhong Yu, with a knowing smile, answered "Of course" to each. The escalating tension prompted Ding Man to interrupt, annoyed by their competitive banter. He then took over the game with Ding Liaoliao, turning the questions on her.
Ding Man asked Ding Liaoliao if she truly liked Jiang Kan. After a noticeable pause, Ding Liaoliao responded, "Of course." Jiang Kan couldn't help but hide a small smile, while Zhong Yu looked visibly disheartened. Ding Man and Ding Liaoliao continued to playfully tease each other with embarrassing anecdotes from their childhood, like Ding Liaoliao's high school crush on a math teacher and Ding Man wetting his bed in middle school and blaming the family dog.
As the evening wound down, Zhong Yu bid Ding Liaoliao farewell, subtly advising her to "look more at the people around you." Shortly after, Jiang Kan conveniently appeared, ostensibly to take out the trash, and then suggested they discuss the new plan for their charity medical activity in Ding Liaoliao's room, eager to hear her ideas. Meanwhile, Lian Geyao's aunt called, strongly urging her to meet a blind date, Mr. Liu.
Lian Geyao initially resisted, claiming she had a boyfriend who was shy around strangers, but her aunt insisted, highlighting Mr. Liu's impressive background as an overseas returnee and successful director at a securities firm, earning around 800,000 yuan annually. Reluctantly, Lian Geyao agreed to a single meeting.
At the cafe, Mr. Liu proudly recited his academic achievements from the University of Bath in England and London Business School, and then proceeded to outline his traditional expectations for a wife: a dedicated housewife who manages all household duties, children, and in-laws, without a career. Lian Geyao quickly retorted, suggesting he become a "househusband" while she continued to work and provide, even offering to hire a nanny if needed.
Mr. Liu, taken aback, then grew rude, telling her that matchmakers had "begged" him to meet her because she was "old" and unmarried. He offensively commented on women's declining "market value" with age, contrasting it with men who could find younger partners even in their forties or fifties. Lian Geyao deftly turned his logic against him, asking why he, at 36, was still single, implying there might be "something wrong with his health."
Before Mr. Liu could further insult her, Ding Man dramatically appeared, chastising Mr. Liu for his misogynistic and narrow-minded views. He paid for their coffee and escorted a surprised Lian Geyao out of the cafe. Outside, Ding Man earnestly confessed his long-standing feelings for Lian Geyao, praising her courage and charm, and asked her to consider trying a relationship with him. Overwhelmed, Lian Geyao agreed, leaving both of them ecstatic.
The next day, Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan arrived at a kindergarten to host their charity medical activity. Ms. Xu, the teacher, greeted them, introducing them to the lively Class 2 children who would participate in a stage play designed to teach them about immunity. Jiang Kan, a doctor in real life, was given the role of "Doctor," while Ding Liaoliao volunteered to be his assistant, the "Nurse."
As costumes were being handed out, a boy named Liangliang, seemingly an outcast, wanted to wear the "little devil" costume. However, other children quickly chimed in, calling him "dirty" and a "bad guy." Ms. Xu explained that Liangliang's parents worked far from home, and he lived with his grandfather, an environmental guard, whose frugal lifestyle meant Liangliang's clothes were often not as clean as the other children's, leading to his isolation.
When a staff member suggested Liangliang quit the play, Ding Liaoliao immediately refused, insisting it would be unfair, and Jiang Kan reassured them that they would find another solution. Ding Liaoliao, in her nurse uniform, asked Jiang Kan to tie her hair for the performance. Despite his initial awkwardness, he carefully did so. The play commenced, with Jiang Kan as the Doctor, Ding Liaoliao as the Nurse, and Liangliang as the "bacteria little devil."
The other children, dressed as "Immune Squad" members (representing medicine pills and the body's immune force), bravely confronted the "little devil." The performance was a resounding success, culminating in Liangliang's character being "defeated" and the children cheering for health. After the show, as other children left with their parents, Liangliang remained behind, his grandfather still at work. Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan offered to take him home, assuring him it was no trouble at all.
They joyfully played with Liangliang on their way, making his day special. Later that evening, as Ding Liaoliao and Jiang Kan walked home, Jiang Kan bought a variety of lollipops. Ding Liaoliao mentioned her preference for strawberry flavor, and Jiang Kan promptly produced one for her, remarking that his sister also liked strawberry. As they neared their building, they spotted Lian Geyao with a man.
Jiang Kan immediately noticed the man was wearing the same jacket Ding Man had worn last Wednesday. Ding Liaoliao initially dismissed it, thinking it might be a woman, but Jiang Kan was certain of the jacket. The shocking realization soon dawned on them: the man Lian Geyao was with, her new boyfriend, was none other than Ding Man.
Episode 10 Recap
Ding Liaoliao was thoroughly perplexed by her younger brother, Ding Man’s, relationship with Lian Geyao. She couldn’t understand why he, who she felt was inferior to her in studies, sports, personality, and even appearance, had found love while she remained single. She bluntly told them that Lian Geyao was "out of his league." Ding Man, observing Jiang Kan nodding in agreement with Liaoliao, joked that Jiang Kan was acting just like his brother-in-law.
Lian Geyao then clarified that she had fallen in love with Ding Man first, a claim Ding Man immediately refuted, insisting he liked her first. As they playfully bickered over who initiated the feelings, Ding Liaoliao, overwhelmed, asked them to stop. Lian Geyao then suggested they retreat to their room.
The following morning, Ding Liaoliao, still processing the situation, complained to Jiang Kan about her disbelief in Ding Man and Lian Geyao’s pairing, likening it to an unlikely union between Jiang Kan and herself. Jiang Kan simply wished her "good luck." After seeing Ding Man and Lian Geyao leave together for the supermarket, Ding Liaoliao finally accepted that her brother had indeed secured a girlfriend.
She then shared a "truth" with Jiang Kan: any person in love experiences a 50% drop in their ability to act independently. To illustrate, she asserted that if she were in love, she wouldn't even eat a strawberry herself, expecting her boyfriend to feed her. Jiang Kan, without a word, put a strawberry into her mouth, then awkwardly declared he was finished and left.
News of the kindergarten charity event, featuring Jiang Kan, spread rapidly online, quickly propelling him to trending topics due to his exceptional looks. His colleagues excitedly discovered his viral fame, with posts praising him as a "human sculpture in the medical field" and noting his irresistible handsomeness. When a colleague informed Jiang Kan, he responded with indifference, asking if they weren't busy with work.
Meanwhile, Ding Liaoliao sent him a text message, congratulating him on his newfound fame and complimenting the photos she took of him, especially noting his seemingly elongated legs. Later, observing that Jiang Kan, typically without a profile picture, had set one featuring himself, his colleagues remarked on its unusual nature for him, hinting at a special significance because it was a photo taken by someone else.
Jiang Kan, after reading Ding Liaoliao’s message, subtly smiled and set her photo as his WeChat profile picture. Capitalizing on the medical documentary's success and Jiang Kan's viral popularity, the station decided to collaborate with "Listen to New Voices" on a medical interview program, requiring someone to refine their rough outline. Despite a colleague's warning about the difficult "Listen to New Voices" team leader, Wang Jun, Hu Jiaying volunteered, citing her familiarity with the theme. Her supervisor commended her willingness.
That evening, Ding Liaoliao found Hu Jiaying still working late. Hu Jiaying explained that Wang Jun had stood her up, leaving her with the daunting task of preparing twenty interview questions for each of the three interviewees by 6 AM the next morning. Seeing the immense workload, Ding Liaoliao insisted on staying to help, emphasizing that she was assisting their station, not just Hu Jiaying. Together, they worked through the night to complete the outline.
The next morning, a weary Ding Liaoliao returned home to find Jiang Kan still awake. He asked for her help in choosing an outfit for his program appearance. She suggested a light-colored suit to distinguish him from the older professors. Noticing his shirt was buttoned too high for a tie-less look, she reached to unbutton it.
However, Jiang Kan, visibly flustered by their close proximity, gently pulled his shirt away and unbuttoned it himself before she wished him good night and left. At the program recording, the director praised the excellent interview outline to Wang Jun, even suggesting a raise, while Hu Jiaying stood by, clearly exhausted. When the director acknowledged Hu Jiaying's effort, she humbly downplayed her contribution, giving all credit to Wang Jun and claiming she merely assisted. Observing this, Jiang Kan intervened.
He approached Hu Jiaying, stating that while she was free to give away her own contributions, she must respect Ding Liaoliao's hard work, as Ding Liaoliao was the one who genuinely collaborated with her on the outline. This caused Hu Jiaying visible discomfort. During the interview, the host asked the professors about their WeChat profile pictures. While the other professors used plain colored backgrounds, Jiang Kan’s was a photo of himself.
When asked if his girlfriend took it, Jiang Kan, looking towards Ding Liaoliao, simply replied that a friend took it and he liked it, neither confirming nor denying the "girlfriend" speculation. The host then connected this friend to the "one who's good at cooking" (a detail Jiang Kan had shared earlier about his "skillful friend" whose simple cooking reminded him of home), and Jiang Kan gave a subtle smile and nod.
After the program concluded, Wang Jun praised Hu Jiaying's work, then, attempting to get closer, instructed her to stop calling him "Mr. Wang" and to call him "brother" instead. As Wang Jun tried to put his arm around Hu Jiaying, Ding Liaoliao swiftly pulled Hu Jiaying away. In the commotion, a piece of camera equipment fell towards them. Liaoliao pushed Hu Jiaying to safety, but the equipment struck her own foot, injuring it.
Jiang Kan immediately rushed to Ding Liaoliao's side and took her to the hospital. The doctor diagnosed a minor ankle dislocation, advising bone-setting and rest, but jokingly told Jiang Kan to hold his "girlfriend" tight after Ding Liaoliao screamed preemptively. After the successful bone-setting, Jiang Kan carried Ding Liaoliao on his back out of the hospital, as there were no available wheelchairs.
On their way home, Jiang Kan gently chided her for acting tough, questioning why she intervened for Hu Jiaying. Back home, Jiang Kan gave Ding Liaoliao a hastily bought gift to cheer her up. He diligently cared for her, instructing Ding Man to make non-greasy noodles for her and telling her to stay in bed for three days.
Despite his warnings, Ding Liaoliao later attempted to hop to the toilet on her own and fell, leading Jiang Kan to sternly remind her to call for help to avoid further injury. He then brought her coconut milk. As Christmas approached, Ding Liaoliao's ankle finally healed, and she could walk again. At the office, Jiang Kan's colleagues inquired about his Christmas plans, to which he replied he "never celebrated it."
Shortly after, Ding Liaoliao called him, excitedly asking if she could go out and play now that her foot had recovered. To his colleagues' surprise, Jiang Kan immediately agreed to take her out. Meanwhile, Ding Man headed to the TV station to meet Lian Geyao. He was mistaken by colleagues for a prop handler, and then for a fan of Ms. Lian.
He played along, declining an offer for an autograph by saying a goddess should be admired from a distance. After a phone call with Lian Geyao where she informed him she'd be working late due to breaking news, Ding Man donned a bear mascot costume. Lian Geyao eventually finished her work and waited for transport in the snow. The bear mascot approached her, danced, and posed for photos.
As they took a picture, the mascot wished her "Merry Christmas" in a voice that sounded distinctly like Ding Man's. Lian Geyao, realizing, pulled off the mascot's head to reveal Ding Man inside. Overwhelmed with emotion, she kissed him, and they shared a sweet embrace amidst the falling snow.
Episode 11 Recap
Jiang Kan had meticulously decorated his home, filling it with a festive Christmas atmosphere. Ding Liaoliao was pleasantly surprised by the preparations. Jiang Kan pointed to the star at the top of the Christmas tree, explaining it was called the Star of Bethlehem, believed to light up the darkness in people's hearts and guide them to pursue their dreams and love. He suggested that on Christmas Day, she should personally hang it and make a wish.
Liaoliao excitedly climbed a ladder to place the star and made a wish. Just as she finished, the power suddenly went out, leaving only the Christmas tree sparkling in the dim room. As Liaoliao descended, Jiang Kan moved closer, and she, thinking he was about to kiss her, closed her eyes. Instead, he simply smiled and gently removed a small leaf from her hair, wishing her "Merry Christmas, Ding Liaoliao."
That night, Liaoliao had a vivid dream of Jiang Kan confessing his feelings. Waking up startled at only six in the morning, she felt completely overwhelmed by her emotions and fled to work early to avoid him. The next morning, Ding Man and Lian Geyao watched Jiang Kan from their apartment, teasing him.
Ding Man asked Jiang Kan to wake Liaoliao, but was informed she had already left for work at six in the morning—an unusual feat for the "non-famous lazy lady" Ding Liaoliao, suggesting something significant had happened. Ding Man speculated that Liaoliao might have developed feelings for Jiang Kan and left early to avoid the awkwardness. He then directly asked Jiang Kan about the elaborate Christmas decorations, hinting at his intentions for Liaoliao.
Ding Man encouraged Jiang Kan to be brave and face his feelings like a true man. Without hesitation, Jiang Kan openly admitted, "I like Ding Liaoliao." Overjoyed, Ding Man immediately started calling him "Brother-in-law." Meanwhile, at work, Liaoliao was catching up on sleep at her desk when her colleague, Hu Jiaying, woke her up, asking to talk. Hu Jiaying expressed her gratitude for Liaoliao's recent help and apologized for her previous resentment.
She confessed to being envious, having joined the station as the top-ranked candidate with good looks, yet feeling invisible as everyone seemed to favor Liaoliao. However, she now understood that Liaoliao was admired for her resilience and unwavering determination to excel in any task. Hu Jiaying concluded her remarks by teasing Liaoliao, saying that someone as naive as her probably had no idea that Jiang Kan liked her.
Later, at the research institute, Jiang Kan discreetly listened as Juzi gave Ren Yifan advice on pursuing girls, secretly noting down the "How To Pursue A Girl" essentials. Juzi emphasized three main points: first, thorough information gathering to anticipate any situation; second, constant and unconditional presence to provide a sense of companionship; and third, making the girl feel special and unique, like a "limited edition" item.
Soon after, Liaoliao's colleagues showed her Jiang Kan's social media post featuring a photo of her, leading them to believe he had fallen in love with her. Liaoliao confronted Jiang Kan, upset that the photo made her look overweight and demanding he delete it. Jiang Kan, apologetic, immediately removed the post. Later, he tried to fix Liaoliao's squeaky bed, explaining its quirks. Liaoliao suggested they buy a bigger bed, stating she likes to roll over in her sleep.
Jiang Kan quickly agreed, though his initial reaction indicated he might have misconstrued her suggestion. Subsequently, Jiang Kan apologized for his recent forwardness and for not considering her feelings, offering to treat her to dinner as an apology. Liaoliao happily accepted, secretly thrilled about the upcoming date. She dressed up specially for the occasion, though she wouldn't admit it.
During their barbecue dinner, Jiang Kan began discussing the harmful effects of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons from grilled meat, but Liaoliao playfully cut him off, telling him to just enjoy the food. Not realizing, Liaoliao ordered the same drink as another table, which turned out to be grapefruit alcohol. Jiang Kan, having consumed too much, became visibly intoxicated. Liaoliao tried to wake him, but in his drunken state, he grabbed her and kissed her.
The next Saturday, which was Liaoliao's birthday, Ding Man and Lian Geyao took her camping to Mogan Mountain. Liaoliao was clearly distracted, saddened that Jiang Kan couldn't join them. Lian Geyao and Ding Man observed her wistful mood with knowing smiles. As night fell and Liaoliao watched the affectionate couple, she felt a wave of longing for Jiang Kan. She took photos and sent them to him, subtly suggesting he visit if his work concluded early.
Lian Geyao then asked Liaoliao to fetch the birthday cake from the car trunk. While on her way, Liaoliao received a location share from Jiang Kan. Following the coordinates, she was surprised to find Jiang Kan himself, walking towards her, holding her birthday cake. He wished her "Happy birthday."
Episode 12 (Ending) Recap
Liaoliao marveled at how important she must be to have Jiang Kan rush to celebrate her birthday. Jiang Kan recounted his journey, observing the twinkling lights on the mountainside and imagining Liaoliao foolishly staring at the sky, wondering why the meteor shower hadn't arrived. Liaoliao playfully corrected him, admitting she was actually wondering why "he" hadn't arrived. Jiang Kan then revealed he had brought an almond cake and almond wine.
Liaoliao teasingly suggested they shouldn't drink, recalling how he "let himself go" when drunk. Jiang Kan clarified that he was perfectly sober when he kissed her the previous night. Jiang Kan then confessed his true feelings. He explained that for him, pharmaceutical research used to be the most romantic thing, and he never imagined building a close emotional connection with a stranger.
However, after meeting Liaoliao, his life entered a delightful state of "disorder," filled with fresh, unexpected events every day. He found himself constantly exploring and seeking answers. When Liaoliao asked if he had found those answers, Jiang Kan replied that he had found only one: Liaoliao herself. " You are the solution to all my problems, existing and unique," he declared. As they headed back, Liaoliao complained of the cold, and Jiang Kan immediately offered her his jacket.
She teased him, expecting him to only say "drink more hot water," prompting Jiang Kan to launch into a scientific explanation of the benefits of warm water, which Liaoliao quickly halted. Just then, a meteor streaked across the sky, and Liaoliao urged him to make a wish. Jiang Kan smiled, saying his wish had already come true. Liaoliao then kissed him, intending to "reinforce" his wish.
Nearby, Ding Man, with Lian Geyao asleep on his shoulder, made his own wish upon a meteor, hoping that the girl by his side would have sweet dreams every night. Later that night, in their tent, Ding Man and Jiang Kan found themselves unable to sleep. Ding Man fabricated an excuse about getting water for Jiang Kan and went to Liaoliao and Geyao's tent.
Soon after, Jiang Kan, feigning a search for drinking cups for the almond wine, also made his way to the girls' tent. Though Liaoliao and Geyao saw through their transparent excuses, they simply let them be. After returning to their tent, Ding Man and Jiang Kan discussed their respective girlfriends. Ding Man proudly declared that Geyao had eyes only for him.
Unbeknownst to them, Liaoliao and Geyao were busy in their own tent, applying face masks and enthusiastically admiring a new male idol on their phone. The next day, as the four friends returned home from their camping trip, they were surprised to find Dr. Huang, Liaoliao and Ding Man's uncle and Jiang Kan's senior schoolmate, had arrived for a business trip.
Dr. Huang greeted Jiang Kan with excessive warmth, calling him "senior schoolmate" and insisting that Liaoliao and Ding Man address Jiang Kan as "Uncle Jiang," which made everyone visibly uncomfortable. At dinner, Dr. Huang pressed Liaoliao to find a partner. As Liaoliao began to introduce Jiang Kan, her uncle quickly interjected, advising her not to pursue someone in his or Jiang Kan's profession.
He specifically singled out Jiang Kan, describing him as introverted, honest, and awkward, someone who "couldn't even speak to girls." That evening, Liaoliao went to Jiang Kan's room to reassure him, telling him not to be upset by her uncle's words, as in her eyes, Jiang Kan was the best, gentlest, and most considerate boyfriend.
Their intimate moment was abruptly interrupted when Dr. Huang burst into the room looking for Jiang Kan, who quickly pushed Liaoliao away to avoid being discovered. Dr. Huang scolded Jiang Kan for being in a young woman's room with the door closed. Later, in their shared room, Dr. Huang attempted to engage Jiang Kan in conversation, but Jiang Kan appeared uninterested.
However, when Dr. Huang noticed a decorative charm on Jiang Kan's backpack and mentioned it reminded him of Liaoliao, the topic shifted. Jiang Kan's demeanor changed, and he uncharacteristically invited Dr. Huang to talk more, thoroughly enjoying the stories about Liaoliao's mischievous childhood. The following day, Dr. Huang finally departed for the UK. Liaoliao returned home to find only Jiang Kan there.
She playfully sat on his lap and asked him what he most wanted to do at that very moment. Jiang Kan offered evasive answers like "sleep" or "finish the report." As Liaoliao leaned in for a kiss, Dr. Huang unexpectedly returned, having forgotten his ID card, and accidentally discovered their hidden relationship.
Ultimately, the four-person shared living arrangement evolved into two cohabiting couples, with Liaoliao and Jiang Kan, much like Ding Man and Lian Geyao, growing more in love each day. When asked what they most wanted to say to each other, both couples expressed the same heartfelt sentiment: "I want to see you again tomorrow."
