According to historical records, the Earth's history contains many mysteries. A prehistoric civilization existed hundreds of thousands of years ago, possessing advanced science, including gene modification technology that allowed ancient humans to tap into spiritual energy for survival and special abilities. A catastrophe wiped out most life, with only a few ancient humans surviving by entering a frozen sleep underground.
After tens of thousands of years, modern humans appeared, and the ancient humans awoke, sharing their knowledge of farming, metallurgy, architecture, and disaster control, which led to many ancient wonders. Modern humans revered these ancient people as gods and created myths about them. While some integrated, others hid. Over time, rulers feared the power of the "gods" and waged war, nearly eradicating the ancient humans, ironically using weapons taught to them.
The remaining ancient humans were hunted and demonized, becoming figures of folklore about ghosts and demons. A few scattered survivors remain hidden. Jin Xia awoke with a severe hangover, feeling dizzy and disoriented. She was astonished to see the previously bare tree in her yard had suddenly bloomed. Unable to recall the events of the previous night, she tried to convince herself that she hadn't done anything undignified or overly strange.
While having breakfast Nan Hua prepared, the scent of his sachet triggered fragmented memories. Jin Xia recalled being heavily intoxicated, clinging to Nan Hua, demanding he call her affectionate terms like "Darling," "Naughty Little Kiss," or "Fairy Baby," and theatrically threatening to jump into the sea if he didn't agree to be her boyfriend.
She then checked her social media Moments and found two videos she had posted late at night, loudly announcing her relationship status and introducing Nan Hua as her boyfriend. Overwhelmed with embarrassment, Jin Xia wanted the ground to swallow her. Nan Hua, however, appeared calm and slightly shy. He addressed her as "Darling" and stated that since he had accepted her "pursuit" the day before, today marked their first day of "practicing" being a couple.
He admitted to lacking experience but promised to make an effort and be responsible for her future. Jin Xia attempted to dismiss it as drunken nonsense, but Nan Hua insisted a gentleman keeps his word. Ding Yanhai, an auxiliary police officer, had seen Jin Xia's videos before she deleted them. Recognizing Nan Hua as someone he'd been seeking, he became excited. He immediately went to Jin Xia's house, asking about the man in the videos.
Fearing Ding might uncover Nan Hua's true identity, Jin Xia quickly told Nan Hua to become invisible. She then tried to evade Ding's questions and denied knowing the man well, fabricating a story about him being an artist who doesn't use a phone and only meets by appointment. Ding mentioned his mother knew "Mr. Nan," who had renovated their family's house.
He explained he was looking for someone who resembled Nan Hua for a personal matter and needed to meet him. To get him to leave, Jin Xia reluctantly agreed to arrange a meeting for the following Saturday at 2 p. m. Later, Jin Xia's close friend, Jiang Xiaochuan, arrived unexpectedly with a cake to celebrate her news about the relationship.
Jin Xia tried to explain that the relationship was merely a result of her drunken behavior and wasn't real, which caused a visible flicker of disappointment in Nan Hua. Observing that Nan Hua seemed to have financial difficulties, Jiang Xiaochuan suggested he try modeling, noting his striking appearance and mentioning her ex-boyfriend, a photographer, was looking for models with a "pure" look for luxury brand advertisements.
Nan Hua agreed to try, despite his lack of modern identification and inability to hold regular employment, forcing him to rely on odd jobs in town. Jiang Xiaochuan sent photos, and Nan Hua was selected for a shoot. To Jin Xia's dismay, the shoot location turned out to be her own workplace. At the studio, despite Jin Xia's attempt to be discreet, her colleagues recognized her and the situation from her deleted posts, leading to envious glances and playful teasing.
During the shoot, Nan Hua was given only swimming trunks for a scene. Citing his traditional upbringing and sense of propriety, he felt uncomfortable exposing his upper body, particularly in front of numerous women. Jin Xia stepped in to speak with the photographer, asking if Nan Hua could wear a shirt or vest. The photographer misunderstood, assuming Jin Xia was jealous and didn't want other women seeing Nan Hua.
He asked all other women to leave the set, leaving only Jin Xia to remain for makeup touch-ups. Feeling awkward but obligated, Jin Xia applied makeup for Nan Hua, internally acknowledging his attractiveness. After the shoot, Nan Hua immediately gave Jin Xia the money he earned, stating it was to help pay the mortgage and rent, noting it was a good start but still a long way off.
Several female colleagues passing by witnessed this gesture, expressing admiration and envy, much to Jin Xia's mixed feelings of awkwardness and satisfaction. Later, Jin Xia expressed concern about Nan Hua continuing with modeling. She worried that his unique appearance combined with his lack of identity papers could lead to him being discovered as an ancient man and potentially "caught for research," especially as his photos might be used on a fashion magazine cover.
While Nan Hua was unfazed by this personal risk, Jin Xia argued it could negatively impact her life and home. Nan Hua conceded her point but then requested one final modeling opportunity: to wear a set of wedding attire designed by Jin Xia, if her work was chosen for an international show. He explained he had overheard her teacher discussing the selection and felt wearing her best design would be a meaningful way to end his modeling career.
Jin Xia was hesitant, doubting her own ability to be selected, but Nan Hua expressed confidence in her, reminding her of her talent based on her previous designs. Upon returning home, Jin Xia told Nan Hua to become invisible to avoid security cameras. He complied but remained visible to her, explaining he could control who could see him, just as she could see him while the police could not when they first met.
He also revealed he could control whether someone could touch him. Just then, Jin Xia's Grandma unexpectedly arrived, having been shown the videos on Jin Xia's Moments by her friend Xiang. Jin Xia was stunned and panicked when she realized Grandma could see Nan Hua, despite his invisibility. Nan Hua explained that his invisibility could sometimes fail for specific groups, including babies, children, the elderly, and certain spiritual animals, admitting he hadn't told her earlier to avoid scaring her.
Jin Xia exclaimed that anyone would be scared, likening him to a ghost. Grandma immediately took a liking to Nan Hua due to his politeness and handsome appearance. She started asking about his background and profession.
When Jin Xia tried to suggest he was just temporarily staying while renovating the house, Nan Hua interjected, stating he would help Jin Xia pay off the mortgage, further impressing Grandma, who was already pleased to learn he was an architect and helped with cooking and housework. Grandma's approval grew significantly, and she even asked Jin Xia if she was pregnant. Just as things settled slightly, another knock came.
Jin Xia again told Nan Hua to hide, assuming it was Ding Yanhai. Indeed, it was Ding, who arrived with a pot of ribs from his mother. He insisted on coming in, having seen them return. Jin Xia tried desperately to prevent him, but Grandma appeared. Recognizing Ding, who had chatted with her while she waited earlier, Grandma warmly invited him inside, mentioning Nan Hua was cooking and inviting him to stay for dinner, much to Jin Xia's dismay.
