Lin Hu and Fairy Ling Bo were traveling through the forest when they found an old Yueluo Clan woman suffering greatly. Noticing their approach, the old woman urged them to leave, fearing she would lose control and absorb their spiritual energy. Lin Hu, however, disregarded the warning and selflessly offered his spiritual energy to her. After absorbing some, the old woman felt better and explained that her clan was cursed to absorb external spiritual energy to survive.

She recounted how they had been driven from Mount Yueluo by the Ten Great Sects, forced to live as refugees. She tragically revealed that her husband, son, and daughter-in-law had all taken their own lives because they could no longer bear the curse. Meanwhile, Kong Hou sought out Jiu Su, proposing they cultivate together. Jiu Su was immediately wary of her sudden change of heart, especially after she had opposed Wu Bei's plan for vengeance against the major sects.

Kong Hou calmly explained that as the Yueluo Clan's Sovereign, her duty was to prevent needless sacrifices. Unconvinced, Jiu Su presented her with cultivation manuals he used, intending to test her. Kong Hou was horrified to discover they contained "life-consuming dark arts." She discussed this with Master Zhong Xi, who was still disguised as her personal guard. Jiu Su arrived unexpectedly, forcing Zhong Xi to resume his role as a silent attendant.

Jiu Su then presented Kong Hou with a colorful pinwheel, reminding her of their shared, difficult childhood as orphans and how she had always wanted one. While the memory stirred some emotion in Kong Hou, her wariness of Jiu Su's true intentions remained. During their dual cultivation, Kong Hou deliberately misaligned her breathing rhythm with Jiu Su's, causing his energy flow to become turbulent.

However, Jiu Su was protected by a divine artifact, the Dark Cloud Tablet, which stabilized his energy and prevented injury. Kong Hou later reported the existence of the Dark Cloud Tablet to Master Zhong Xi, highlighting its power and confirming Jiu Su's lingering suspicion of her. Zhong Xi speculated that the Dark Cloud Tablet might contain the Dragonblood Herb he needed for his own condition.

Kong Hou surmised that Jiu Su wouldn't keep such a powerful artifact on him at all times and would likely store it in a place rich in spiritual energy to recharge. That night, as Lin Hu prepared to sleep on the floor, Fairy Ling Bo, feigning disgust with her pillow, threw it to him so he could be more comfortable.

Amused by her gesture, Lin Hu playfully questioned if she had feelings for him, listing her recent kind actions as evidence. Though she flusteredly told him to go to sleep, the moment brought them closer. The next morning, they were awakened by the old woman's coughing to find they had rolled together onto the floor in their sleep. The old woman teased them about being a couple, and despite their embarrassment, the shared experience deepened their bond.

Kong Hou and Master Zhong Xi used the night to search Jiu Su's residence. They found a hidden mechanism leading to a secret chamber filled with ancient texts and artifacts. As they searched, they overheard Jiu Su and Wu Bei returning, discussing their true plan: to use Kong Hou's Phoenix Essence for their joint ascension, which would trigger a "black rain" that would destroy the entire Lingyou Realm and allow the Yueluo Clan to reclaim its glory.

Kong Hou quickly pretended to be studying a manual to avoid detection. Master Zhong Xi urged her to leave, but Kong Hou refused after finding a scroll that revealed only someone with Phoenix Essence could facilitate a cultivator's ascension. Realizing Jiu Su needed her unique bloodline and would pursue her relentlessly, she decided to stay and face him.

To decipher the cryptic ancient texts they found, Kong Hou asked Master Zhong Xi to seek out the eccentric old elder known for his knowledge of ancient writings. Despite his worries for her safety, Master Zhong Xi reluctantly agreed and left immediately. The next morning, Lin Hu and Fairy Ling Bo continued their observations in the village, noting that the Yueluo Clan villagers, though dark cultivators, seemed peaceful. Just then, righteous sect disciples violently attacked the village, massacring the inhabitants.

Xiao Pei rushed to Kong Hou to report the horrific events. Kong Hou hurried to the village, witnessing the carnage. When the righteous sect members saw Master Zhong Xi, who had just returned, with Kong Hou, they accused him of colluding with dark cultivators. To protect him, Kong Hou publicly renounced him, struck him with a palm, and threw away the bracelet he had given her, pretending to absorb his spiritual energy.

Amid the chaos, Lin Hu and Fairy Ling Bo managed to lead some surviving Yueluo Clan members into the forest to hide. Believing all her clan members in the village were dead, Kong Hou was overcome with grief. Xiao Pei, who had lost her brother and now felt utterly alone, pledged to follow Kong Hou regardless of the danger.

Meanwhile, Master Zhong Xi returned to a sect outpost, where his disciple, Xiao Dong, expressed his firm belief that Kong Hou had truly become a dark cultivator. Lin Hu and Fairy Ling Bo, returning to their hidden group, were devastated to find that those they had saved had also been killed. Overcome with rage, Fairy Ling Bo nearly attacked the sect disciples, who accused her of being enchanted by dark cultivators.

Later, Kong Hou experienced an intense resurgence of pain from her dark cultivation bloodline, realizing that Master Zhong Xi's discarded bracelet, imbued with his spiritual energy, had been suppressing it all along. She knew she now had to find another way to manage her condition.
