The Hehuan Sect Leader, Ouyang, extended a welcoming invitation to Master Zhong Xi, Kong Hou, and Lin Hu. During the initial introductions, she subtly probed their relationship, to which Master Zhong Xi falsely claimed they had only met recently and were traveling together. The Sect Leader then offered a formal apology for the previous troubles at Jiao Tong Pavilion, announcing its closure and denouncing Jiao Tong as a rogue, a calculated move to ease any suspicions.

She then used a hypnosis spell, disguised as entertainment with dancers, to incapacitate the three guests. Lin Hu had a momentary concern about poisoned food, but Kong Hou confidently dismissed it, stating she was immune to toxins. Once they were unconscious, Jiu Su's envoy arrived, instructing the Sect Leader to only secure Kong Hou and detain the two men.

Attempts to detect Kong Hou's spiritual root proved futile, leading the envoy to speculate that her power was being suppressed by a powerful formation. Master Zhong Xi awoke to find himself restrained by blacksteel chains, reinforced with special talismans. Sect Leader Ouyang, confident in her control, sat beside him and boastfully claimed to have rescued him from Old Wu Bei, then propositioned him to become her personal consort. Master Zhong Xi feigned compliance, subtly questioning Wu Bei's motives.

Ouyang, believing him subdued, revealed Wu Bei’s true target was Kong Hou, noting that the girl was difficult to capture, though she was unaware of Wu Bei's specific reasons beyond Kong Hou having "offended him somehow." Hearing this, Master Zhong Xi immediately shattered the chains and revealed his true identity, much to Ouyang's shock. Concurrently, Lin Hu regained consciousness in a courtyard, confronted by Jiao Tong, who casually invited him to drink.

Lin Hu, however, was preoccupied with the whereabouts of Master Zhong Xi and Kong Hou. Jiao Tong attempted to lure Lin Hu back to the demon path, offering to help him overcome his Golden Core tribulation using an evil art that involved cultivating with captured girls. Lin Hu was furious at Jiao Tong's heinous methods, reminding him that he had chosen a different path.

Jiao Tong scoffed, asserting that humans would never accept a demon, and then revealed he had captured Fairy Ling Bo of Zhaohan Sect, using her as leverage to force Lin Hu to join him. Despite Lin Hu's attempts to appear indifferent, his concern for Ling Bo was evident. He refused Jiao Tong's offer, leading to a fierce battle.

Lin Hu emerged victorious, but instead of killing Jiao Tong, he chose to strip him of all his cultivation, condemning him to a life devoid of spiritual power. Jiao Tong, unable to accept a mundane existence, chose to take his own life. Lin Hu then rushed to Master Zhong Xi. Master Zhong Xi, with Ouyang assisting, was already searching for Kong Hou. Wu Bei, alerted to their presence, fled carrying the unconscious Kong Hou.

During his escape, Kong Hou’s spiritual root unexpectedly awakened, allowing her to momentarily break free from his grasp. Wu Bei, intrigued by her awakened power, attempted to recapture her, but Master Zhong Xi arrived, forcing Wu Bei to retreat. Kong Hou, exhausted, fell unconscious once more. Master Zhong Xi sent Lin Hu to notify their sect of the events and then await them in Yi City.

Before leaving the scene, Kong Hou discovered a bird egg beneath a tree and decided to take it, hoping to care for a hatchling. On their journey, Kong Hou questioned why the dark cultivator had targeted her and how she had suddenly gained immense power. Master Zhong Xi explained that despite her lack of a spiritual root, she harbored an unknown power, which Wu Bei was likely after.

He reassured a worried Kong Hou that she would be protected by him, Lin Hu, and her master. Meanwhile, Ling Bo woke up, freed herself from her restraints, and began searching for Jiao Tong, determined to exact revenge. She soon found other bound individuals and released them. Lin Hu then arrived. Ling Bo initially mistook him for Jiao Tong's accomplice and drew her sword, but seeing his genuine intentions, she lowered it.

However, upon learning from Lin Hu that Jiao Tong was dead, she chided him, regretting that she couldn't bring Jiao Tong back for the merit it would bring to Zhaohan Sect, especially after discovering his atrocities, such as skinning people to maintain his appearance. Ling Bo mentioned she was looking for her senior Chang De in Fengyi, admitting her poor sense of direction.

Observing Lin Hu's lingering distress, Kong Hou subtly initiated a private conversation with Master Zhong Xi through a communication barrier, brainstorming ways to cheer him up. She proposed various activities like visiting the long-haired apes and spiritual fruit orchards in Cuiming Mountains, getting foot massages, and even getting "friendship tattoos." Lin Hu, who had been given the communication barrier’s passcode by Master Zhong Xi, overheard their plans.

He immediately voiced his strong disapproval of the tattoos, declaring it more of a "shock" than a "surprise." On Kong Hou’s birthday, she received a flood of gifts from her fellow sect members and her master, who sent his "hidden treasures" along with well wishes. When Master Zhong Xi asked what gift she desired, Kong Hou requested they make sweet cakes together, explaining it was a cherished tradition with her Senior Ling Hui.

While baking, she playfully inquired if disciples of the Liuguang Sect were too refined to cook and whether a non-fasting girl would starve if she married into their sect. Master Zhong Xi lightheartedly replied that he would hire a cook. Their baking session turned into a playful flour fight, smudging each other's faces. Later, Lin Hu created a romantic ambiance for Kong Hou and Master Zhong Xi. They made wishes upon a "wishing flower."

Kong Hou wished for her master’s longevity and her seniors’ advancement, and then made a third, secret wish. Master Zhong Xi correctly guessed her first two wishes, prompting Kong Hou to teasingly withhold her third. She then insisted Master Zhong Xi try a bite of her homemade sweet cake, despite his fasting. Unexpectedly, the egg Kong Hou had picked up earlier hatched, revealing an Azure Jade Fungus, a rare spirit herb Master Zhong Xi had long sought.

Kong Hou realized her third wish had been to help him find his medicine. Later that night, Lin Hu noticed a powerful tribulation phenomenon and alerted Master Zhong Xi. They quickly discovered Kong Hou undergoing a rapid advancement to the Foundation Establishment stage. A mysterious barrier surrounded her, preventing her breakthrough. Concerned for Kong Hou’s agony, Master Zhong Xi decided to shatter the barrier, despite Lin Hu's warning about the impending thunder strike, offering to bear the strike himself.

However, as Master Zhong Xi moved to break the barrier, a fire phoenix erupted from within Kong Hou, attacking him. In a moment of instinct, Kong Hou shielded Master Zhong Xi, causing the fire phoenix to instantly vanish. Afterward, Master Zhong Xi explained that the phoenix symbol had created the barrier to suppress her latent power and protect it from malicious individuals, and noted that the phoenix ceased its attack when she protected him.

Kong Hou pondered the phoenix's origin, wondering if she possessed a "phoenix destiny," as described in storybooks, which often foretold a difficult life. Master Zhong Xi encouraged her to consider the positive aspect of bearing such a seal, signifying extraordinary power. Recalling her Master Wang Tong’s prophecy that she would "achieve greatness later in life," Kong Hou concluded that her failed tribulation was merely a test from Heaven.
