As Tian Tian and Kun Lan set out to find Shuangshuang, they encountered a setback when Tian Tian's shortcut led them into a difficult spot, stuck between two cars. Tian Tian apologized for the inconvenience. Meanwhile, Kun Lan received a call from Shuangshuang, and he apologized for his "situation," asking her to wait a moment.
Jian Bai, walking alone, found herself reminiscing about past moments with He Zhengchang, recalling how she had tended to his injuries and brought him homemade bento boxes, memories she cherished. Later, Jian Bai met with He Zhengchang, providing him with information she had gathered about Shuangshuang, along with another bento box. He Zhengchang's gaze turned chilling as he looked at a photograph of Shuangshuang.
Kun Lan eventually met with Shuangshuang, who apologized for her abrupt departure earlier, explaining she had been emotionally distraught and felt she had caused him too much trouble. Kun Lan expressed his relief at her return, admitting he had worried she might vanish from his life. Shuangshuang assured him she was doing well and could take care of herself.
She revealed that Director Du had encouraged her to return to MIST, reminding her of her professional responsibilities to her colleagues, projects, and herself. Kun Lan subtly probed, asking if her return wasn't also influenced by Qi Xun. Kun Lan then confessed that he had initially felt a sense of relief when she left Qi Xun, believing she was escaping potential danger and heartbreak. However, he realized the depth of her love for Qi Xun.
He pondered whether to watch her continue taking risks or erase what she held dear. Shuangshuang, touched, wondered why Kun Lan was always so kind and thoughtful towards her. She admitted to feeling increasingly greedy, desiring a career, friendship, and romance, questioning if anyone could truly have it all. Kun Lan then confessed his true feelings, asking if he could be the one to bring her happiness.
He spoke of his profound happiness since their first meeting and subsequent reunion, stating that his desire to protect her was not merely as a guardian, but out of genuine affection, regardless of her relationship with Qi Xun. Shuangshuang, deeply moved but uncomfortable, gently declined, causing Kun Lan to quickly lighten the mood by pretending he was only joking. Shuangshuang, relieved, cautioned him against such jokes in the future, to which he promised he wouldn't.
He reaffirmed his commitment to always be by her side, no matter what happened. While working at MIST, Shuangshuang received a parcel with her photo on it. Alarmed by the unusual package, Qi Xun rushed in, warning her not to touch it and stepping forward to open it himself. However, Shuangshuang, fearing for his safety, pushed him aside and knocked the box to the floor. Inside, they found documents.
Shuangshuang then asked Qi Xun if he wasn't afraid of danger, to which he coolly replied, "What's there to be afraid of?" Back in his office, Qi Xun discussed the incident with Shi Lang, concluding that the person who sent the parcel and took the photo must be connected to Shuangshuang. He ruled out himself and Kun Lan, suspecting Shen Tong. He inquired about Shen Tong's background check. Shi Lang reported that Shen Tong's identity was deliberately obscured and "shady."
He mentioned that Shen Tong had a deceased fiancé named Xu Yiming, and his death seemed to be connected to her. Qi Xun instructed Shi Lang to continue the investigation and to remain vigilant regarding He Zhengchang. Qi Xun later met with Shen Tong, who greeted him somewhat coquettishly, expressing anticipation for their "date" and urging him to sit closer. Qi Xun clarified that he was there to uncover certain truths and expected honest answers.
Shen Tong, however, warned him against provoking her, implying he would gain nothing if she became angry. She then revealed she knew he wanted to confirm if she was a healer and if she could save his sister, Tian Tian. After Qi Xun moved closer, Shen Tong confirmed she was indeed a healer with the ability to heal Tian Tian, but added that it "depends on your decision." Qi Xun stated that Shuangshuang was his only love.
Shen Tong dismissed his sentiment, telling him to "save that kind of stuff after your sister is healed." When Qi Xun pressed her for her exact demands, Shen Tong provocatively asked him to "kiss me," reiterating that "everything that seems wonderful always comes with a price." Shen Tong directly made a move towards Qi Xun. Qi Xun, feigning compliance, moved closer, which momentarily surprised Shen Tong.
In that brief moment of her surprise, Qi Xun firmly stated, "I can't do it," and promptly left. Zha Zha met with Kun Lan, sharing an important discovery: Shen Tong, the girl Kun Lan had met at the hospital, was a healer. He had found a file on his grandfather's desk stamped "Protection Denied" related to her. Shen Tong unexpectedly contacted Kun Lan, arranging a meeting.
She commented on Shuangshuang's "amazing" situation, being in love with Qi Xun yet living with Kun Lan, and noted Qi Xun's "generous heart." She then asked Kun Lan for a favor: to transfer a boy named Qin Ran, whom they had met at the hospital, to one of Kun's Group's top private hospitals. Qin Ran suffered from a severe congenital heart disease, and Shen Tong, short on funds, hoped Kun Lan's wealth and connections could help.
Impressed by her compassion for Qin Ran, Kun Lan readily agreed to assist, despite their lack of kinship. However, he first asked Shen Tong directly if she was a healer. Shen Tong evaded the question, remarking that he and Qi Xun were quite similar. Qi Xun, still highly concerned about Shen Tong's identity, again pressed Shi Lang for more information.
Shi Lang reiterated that Shen Tong's background remained extremely obscure, seemingly deliberately concealed, and that he had not yet found any useful leads. Qi Xun instructed him to investigate every aspect of her life, including her habits, environment, and acquaintances, until her true identity was revealed. Later, as Shuangshuang walked home alone, aware that He Zhengchang was still following her, she felt as if someone was following her. She called Kun Lan, asking him to pick her up.
Feeling increasingly uneasy, she confronted her perceived follower, yelling, "Curse you! Why are you following me?" and proceeded to hit the person several times. To her surprise, she then realized it was Qi Xun. Apologetic, Qi Xun explained he was following her to protect her.
