Qiao Yan watched a video clip of Gu Jingyuan protecting her, which had become a hot topic online. As she recalled the moments they had shared, her heart began to race. Unsure of the cause, she suspected a heart problem. Her friend, Miao, suggested she see a doctor, but Qiao Yan decided to observe it further. Meanwhile, Gu Jingyuan continued his investigation into the children's food poisoning incident.
He remembered seeing Jiang Jun, the purchasing manager, accepting money from a man in a car. Suspecting foul play, he instructed Lin Ze to investigate Jiang Jun while he pursued He Wei. Gu Jingyuan was then deliberately bumped into by the same man he saw with Jiang Jun, but he couldn't catch him. He confronted He Wei, who revealed he had been hired to slander Gu Jingyuan but was never fully paid, and was now being threatened to keep silent.
Under pressure, He Wei confessed that the man's name was Zhu Ming, an employee of Qin's Group. Gu Jingyuan then confronted Qin Mian, revealing dashcam footage that clearly showed Zhu Ming bribing Jiang Jun. Qin Mian, who had been planning to discreetly transfer Zhu Ming to avoid exposure, was caught off guard as Gu Jingyuan had already reported the evidence to the police.
Qin Mian tried to distance himself from Zhu Ming's actions, claiming they were personal and not representative of Qin's Group. He even tried to manipulate Gu Jingyuan, suggesting they team up to take over Gu's Group and bringing up Gu Jingyuan's mother, Luo Qian. Qin Mian revealed that Luo Qian was alive and that he knew why she abandoned Gu Jingyuan and who his biological father was.
Their conversation was interrupted by Qin Ziyu, who was shocked to learn of his father's involvement and questioned his relentless vendetta against the Gu family. Qin Mian dismissed him, telling him to stay away from the company. Later, Qin Mian held a press conference, publicly blaming Zhu Ming and announcing his termination, but the incident caused Qin Real Estate to lose a major bid and suffer a significant blow to its reputation.
Lin Ze reported back to Gu Jingyuan that they had found no trace of Luo Qian in Xijiang, and He Wei had also disappeared. Later, Qiao Yan attended a performance at a small theater, where she encountered Qin Ziyu. He revealed he had acquired the theater specifically to invite her to perform there, believing her talent should not be wasted. That night, Qiao Yan met Gu Jingyuan at the theater and played the piano for him.
Gu Jingyuan opened up about his past trauma, admitting that Qiao Yan's unwavering support had given him new strength, making him realize he would not let anyone harm those he cared about. As they talked, a security guard approached. Qiao Yan quickly pulled Gu Jingyuan into hiding, and in the close proximity, her heart raced once more.
Recalling Miao's earlier observation that she had "fallen for Gu Jingyuan," she confessed her feelings to him and leaned in for a kiss, but Gu Jingyuan subtly evaded her. The moment left them both deeply embarrassed. Qiao Yan, flustered, later called Miao, admitting she had confessed to Gu Jingyuan and worrying he would think she was a "pervert" especially after his response was to transfer her money.
Miao reassured her that her feelings were natural, given they were not blood-related and only a few years apart. However, Qiao Yan dismissed her feelings as mere "confusion" due to recent events, stating she needed to focus on finding her parents' killer. The next morning, Gu Jingyuan was still at home when Qiao Yan returned. He called her out to talk.
To alleviate the awkwardness, Qiao Yan playfully suggested that since he was only five years older, she would call him "Gu Jingyuan" instead of "uncle" and that they should be best friends. She then attempted to explain her attempted kiss as a common "greeting ritual" from abroad, trying to demonstrate it again. However, Gu Jingyuan stopped her, maintaining that he saw her as family and an elder figure, and did not want her to misunderstand his care. Calling him a "cheapskate," Qiao Yan then walked away, embarrassed. Gu Jingyuan watched her leave, a fond smile slowly appearing on his face.
