Gu Jingyuan had been deliberately avoiding Qiao Yan, even turning away from his home after seeing her message and claiming he was working overtime, though Qiao Yan had already spotted his car. For some time, he rarely ate at home. He had a terse conversation with a woman who congratulated him on acquiring land and for making her design director. She asked if he was still angry with her and if they were still best friends.

Gu Jingyuan responded that she would always be his good sister and he would never forget that she saved his life. When she invited him to dinner, he declined, explaining that he had promised Qiao Yan and his father to eat at home more often. As he left, she wistfully remarked, "Ah Yuan Ge Ge, how can you have a home?"

Later, Qiao Yan confided in her friend, Miao, that she felt she had "messed things up" and Gu Jingyuan was now avoiding her. Miao tried to comfort her, but Qiao Yan expressed her distress over her first experience of liking someone turning out this way, adding that she truly didn't want him to hate her. Miao suggested they maintain their distance, believing they would both eventually move on.

A young family member also noted Gu Jingyuan's absence, asking if he was avoiding them due to a joke from the day before, while Qiao Yan, speaking to herself, declared, "Gu Jingyuan, I don't want to call you uncle anymore." Meanwhile, Qin Mian arranged an interview with a Xijiang Daily reporter to restore Qin's reputation. He claimed that an employee, Zhu Ming, was solely responsible for the malicious competition incident, and Qin's was completely unaware.

He stressed that the competition between Qin's and Gu's was purely business. To further mend public perception, Qin Mian asserted that the Qin and Gu families maintained private connections, highlighting Qiao Yan and his son, Qin Ziyu, as close friends who frequently gathered. He even offered to invite the newspaper to their next family get-together. Following this public declaration, Qin Mian formally invited the Gu family to a dinner.

Gu Jingyuan initially intended to just make a brief appearance, but Gu Changye insisted on attending. Gu Changye believed that Qin's entry into the real estate market was specifically aimed at the Gu family, indicating a deeper conflict than mere business rivalry. As the Gu family arrived, Qin Mian had reporters ready, eagerly capturing photos of both families to showcase their supposed harmony. Gu Jingyuan urged Qin Mian to let them go inside, citing his father's health.

Inside, Qin Mian attempted to offer Gu Changye dessert, but Gu Changye politely declined, stating he had something important to discuss in private. Qin Mian suggested they move to his study. Gu Changye, ensuring Qiao Yan stayed behind, brought only Gu Jingyuan with him. Qin Ziyu remained with Qiao Yan, and to prevent her from being bored, he took her to listen to his collection of vinyl records.

While listening, Qin Ziyu shared that his mother, who had passed away shortly after his birth, also loved the violin. Qiao Yan comforted him, assuring him that his mother would have cherished him as the greatest gift in her life. Qin Ziyu then playfully suggested Qiao Yan open a psychological clinic due to her insightful words, and once again invited her to perform at his venue.

In the study, Gu Changye directly confronted Qin Mian, acknowledging Qin Mian's long-held belief that Gu's was responsible for his father's suicide during Gu's debt crisis in the securities market. Gu Changye clarified that while Gu's faced its own crisis and couldn't pay suppliers on time, they offered compensation. He stated that Qin Mian's father had taken out a massive loan, which ultimately led to the tragedy.

Gu Changye expressed understanding for Qin Mian's past resentment but conveyed his disappointment if Qin Mian was still solely focused on revenge. Qin Mian denied any such intentions, reiterating that their business competition was purely professional and expressing his desire for the families to make peace and collaborate for mutual development. Gu Changye then voiced his renewed suspicions, referencing the accidental deaths of his son and daughter-in-law months prior, and Qiao Yan's repeated close calls.

He pointed out the mysterious theft of a unique model that only the Gu family could use, questioning the motive if it wasn't an act of revenge. Qin Mian offered no explanation for these events, claiming ignorance. Excusing herself to use the restroom, Qiao Yan overheard parts of their conversation from the study door. When Qin Ziyu called out to her, she quickly ducked into a nearby room, which she discovered was an art studio.

There, she found a paintbrush engraved with her mother's name, "Yu," stirring confusion and a painful memory of her mother. After the tense conversation, Qin Mian escorted Gu Changye and Gu Jingyuan out of the study. He then turned to enter the art studio. Qiao Yan, still hidden, spotted a hair clip she had personally crafted for her mother as a birthday gift, confirming her mother's belongings were indeed in Qin Mian's possession.

Just as Qin Mian was about to discover her, Gu Jingyuan cleverly created a distraction by deliberately knocking over and breaking a vase, drawing Qin Mian's attention. Gu Jingyuan quickly apologized, claiming he found the vase beautiful and had accidentally dropped it, offering to pay for the damage. Qin Mian dismissed it as insignificant but advised Gu Jingyuan to be more careful with others' property. The distraction allowed Qiao Yan to escape unnoticed.

Qin Ziyu eventually found Qiao Yan in the garden, asking where she had been. Qiao Yan fabricated a story about needing fresh air due to boredom, which Qin Ziyu accepted without suspicion, though he mentioned that his father's art studio was off-limits. Later, back at home, Gu Jingyuan privately confronted Qiao Yan, who, in a tearful confession, revealed everything she had discovered. She was now convinced that Qin Mian was responsible for her parents' deaths.

Gu Jingyuan, understanding Qin Mian's cunning and dangerous nature, cautioned Qiao Yan against any rash actions. He emphasized the need for careful planning and warned her not to betray her suspicions, fearing that Qin Mian would retaliate against her. Unbeknownst to them, Qin Mian was in his art studio, gazing at a photograph of Gu Hai's wife, Yuling.

He spoke softly to the image, expressing regret, "I never should have let you go, and given Gu Hai the chance to take advantage. Yuling, don't blame me." This revealed a deep, personal connection and long-held resentment that fueled his actions.
