Baiwan held a token she had taken from the blue team. Yu Chen confronted her, threatening her. Qu Zheng appeared, telling Baiwan that holding onto the token would only put her in greater danger. Baiwan insisted she could not be eliminated and had to obtain the Lingyao Herb, refusing to withdraw from the competition when Qu Zheng advised it. Seeing her resolve, Qu Zheng took out his zither, startling Baiwan. She couldn't believe he would act against her.
However, Qu Zheng then proceeded to defeat Yu Chen and his companions, surprising them as this action indicated betrayal. Qu Zheng then switched his affiliation to the red team. Baiwan was shocked, but Qu Zheng seemed unfazed, stating that since he couldn't persuade her to join him, he would join her side instead. He then led Baiwan away, helping her evade pursuers.
Later, Qu Zheng assisted Baiwan by blocking the advancing blue team members, allowing Baiwan to successfully hand the token to Zi Jing just before the deadline. The red team won the knockout stage. Baiwan and Qu Zheng were overjoyed, while Qingyun watched from the shadows, his brows furrowed. Jin Muqiu and Su Zhuozhuo waited for Baiwan for dinner, both happy she had successfully passed the knockout stage.
However, Baiwan announced she was going to find Qu Zheng, which surprised Su Zhuozhuo. Baiwan wanted to ask Qu Zheng why he had helped her. Qu Zheng first teased her, asking if she hoped he still harbored feelings for her. He then became serious, telling her he intended to help her regain her memory. The Nonguple Palace disciple brought by Yu Chen then confessed to being bribed by Yu Chen to swap the tokens. Jing Yuan took both the disciple and Yu Chen away, disqualifying Yu Chen from the competition. On their way back, Jin Muqiu and Baiwan were stopped by Qingyun. Baiwan sat down with him, thanking him for his help (presumably during the knockout stage). She gently tried to explain again that she might not be the person he was seeking.
Qingyun was convinced her memory loss was the reason she didn't recognize him, believing she would remember once she recovered. Returning home, Baiwan noticed someone acting strangely while delivering water to Qu Zheng's room. Without hesitation, she entered the room to warn him, only to find him bathing. Qu Zheng revealed he had already been aware of the issue with the bathwater, but her arrival showed her concern for him.
It was later confirmed the water had been tampered with, an attempt by people from Fengyun Villa who had disguised themselves. Baiwan confided in Jin Muqiu about Qu Zheng. Jin Muqiu speculated that Qu Zheng might be there to help Baiwan. She advised Baiwan not to just listen to his words, but to watch his eyes when he spoke, as eyes do not deceive.
However, Jin Muqiu also admitted she had her own troubles, holding a broken jade hairpin and lamenting the missing piece, suggesting her own relationship issues were unresolved. Jin Muqiu urged someone (implied to be Qu Zheng) to directly explain their past and that he was not the bad person Baiwan believed him to be, saying everything would become clear once she retrieved the Lingyao Herb.
The other person expressed concern about Baiwan's reaction upon recovering her memory but resolved to face it together with her. Meanwhile, Qingyun was secretly practicing a technique taught to him by his "father" (Jing Yuan). In just a few days, his power increased dramatically, on the condition that he must kill Qu Zheng in the arena. Later, patrolling guards discovered Yu Chen's body lying in the street.
