After Lin Xingchen accidentally fell into the fountain, a student named Zhang Haotian offered his hand and helped her out. He introduced himself and learned her name, but their conversation was cut short when Luo Qinge called. Lin Xingchen quickly excused herself, and Zhang Haotian jokingly told her to come to him if she wanted to learn swimming. Lin Xingchen then met Luo Qinge at a nearby restaurant.
Luo Qinge was complaining about the thankless work of the play rehearsal and the class leader's seriousness. She encouraged Lin Xingchen to eat, but the hot and sour noodles were too spicy for Lin Xingchen, bringing tears to her eyes. At that moment, Lu Yibai walked past and, seeing Lin Xingchen with a tear-streaked face, mistakenly thought she was crying over his harsh words from before, which left him feeling bothered.
Back home, Lin Xingchen was still upset by Lu Yibai's words. Her Grandma noticed her sadness and asked what was wrong. Lin Xingchen asked if Grandma thought she was a serious person, to which Grandma playfully replied that she was only serious when eating. Lin Xingchen explained that it was the class leader who criticized her for constantly forgetting her lines during play rehearsals.
Grandma agreed that it was Lin Xingchen's fault and then emotionally blamed herself for spoiling Lin Xingchen, who was born visually impaired and raised without her parents. She explained that she only ever wanted Lin Xingchen to be healthy and happy, which led to her carefree attitude. However, Grandma gently told her that being careless in group activities was disrespectful to others.
Lin Xingchen acknowledged her mistake, but when Grandma suggested she apologize to the class leader, Lin Xingchen refused, still upset about how harshly Lu Yibai had spoken to her. Nevertheless, that night, Lin Xingchen resolved to diligently memorize her lines. Meanwhile, Lu Yibai was seen looking at Lin Xingchen's house from afar, remarking that she was crying over such a minor issue. The next day, Luo Qinge, after much thought, decided that catering to Fang Qi's preferences was most important.
She approached Wu Jiayi, apologizing for her previous attitude and admitting that street dance wasn't Wu Jiayi's strength. Knowing Wu Jiayi had studied ballet since childhood, Luo Qinge proposed they switch their program to a group ballet, with Wu Jiayi leading the rehearsals, to which everyone eventually agreed. In class, the teacher introduced Zheng Chouyu's poem "Mistake." When asked for watercolor markers, Lin Xingchen mistakenly offered watercolor pencils. Lu Yibai was then asked to read the poem aloud.
His pleasant voice impressed the students, and despite her initial reluctance, Lin Xingchen's attitude towards him began to improve. One student playfully remarked that his reading made the lyrical poem sound like a "complaint from a woman scorned." During a break, Cai Weiming pointed out that Lin Xingchen had accidentally swapped scripts with him the day before, showing her the one with "Memorize thoroughly" written on it. Lin Xingchen, surprised, thanked "Bean Sprout."
Lu Yibai then suggested that if she didn't want to act, she could give the script to someone else. This provoked Lin Xingchen to declare fiercely that no one would take her female lead role. To apologize for previously delaying rehearsals due to her forgotten lines, Lin Xingchen bought carbonated drinks for her classmates, including one for Lu Yibai. Although Lu Yibai typically avoided carbonated drinks, he accepted it, prompting Cai Weiming to jokingly call him out.
Later, during a self-study session, Lin Xingchen dozed off and slept through the entire break period. Lu Yibai woke her, remarking that she couldn't multitask, which led Lin Xingchen to playfully retort that intelligent people often go bald like Fang Daqiang. Lu Yibai noticed she was drooling and discreetly placed a piece of paper under her chin. When she struggled with her math homework, he offered his own notebook, telling her to copy it if it helped.
After school, Lin Xingchen was in the corridor, practicing her lines for the play, trying different emotional deliveries and finding it difficult. Lu Yibai walked by, claiming he was just passing after physics class, but admitted he wanted to check on her memorization, urging her not to embarrass their class. Lin Xingchen asked if he was apologizing, noting his "subtle" approach, but then admitted he was right and that her initial attitude was poor.
She acknowledged that with effort, memorizing lines wasn't as hard as she thought. Lu Yibai added that admitting mistakes and correcting them was a great virtue. Lin Xingchen then playfully reminded him that he was the one who was supposed to apologize. At the bus stop, they realized there were no more buses. Lu Yibai offered her a ride on his bike if she said something nice, but she refused to flatter him.
When a bus finally arrived, Lin Xingchen tried to return Lu Yibai's jacket, but he told her to keep wearing it and return it tomorrow. On the bus, Lin Xingchen looked at the jacket, a secret smile on her face, and noticed how long his arms were. On the day of the School Arts Festival, Luo Qinge and her classmates performed their group ballet, with Luo Qinge nervously searching the audience for Fang Qi.
Fang Qi's friend pointed out Luo Qinge as the freshman who liked him, but Fang Qi dismissed it, his attention fixed on Ding Yi from Class 2-1, who later delivered a stunning solo ballet performance of "Black Swan." As it was almost time for the play, Lin Xingchen, feeling nervous, went to the restroom to prepare. Lu Yibai went to check on her, teasing her that she looked "average bad" in her costume.
Lin Xingchen expressed her disappointment at her first lead role being a "village girl," but Lu Yibai encouraged her to give her best performance. She promised she would, having never worked so hard on anything before. She noticed her flats were a bit too big, likely swapped by mistake, but decided to "make do" as it was time to go on stage.
During the performance of "Out of the Valley," Lin Xingchen, playing the character Shui Mei, was pulled by a servant and accidentally kicked off her shoe. It flew into the audience and hit Zhang Haotian. Despite being flustered, Lin Xingchen continued her emotional performance, even as the stage crew urged her to "keep acting."
After the play, backstage, Lin Xingchen was met with criticism from her classmates, particularly Cai Weiming, who blamed her for turning their class performance into a "joke." Tearfully, Lin Xingchen apologized profusely and ran out. As she left, she encountered Zhang Haotian, who had retrieved her shoe and came to return it. She quickly thanked him, took the shoe, and continued running away, still crying. Lin Xingchen sat alone by a flowerbed, weeping.
Lu Yibai found her and offered her a candy, telling her that eating candy helps when feeling sad, a sentiment someone else had once told her. She confided in him, asking why she always messed up every time she tried to do something seriously. Lu Yibai dismissed her embarrassment as a "small thing" not worth crying over and commended her for being "pretty amazing" for seeing the performance through.
He explained that people often "think too highly of themselves" when feeling embarrassed, and what she considered shameful, others might find "kind of cute." Lin Xingchen asked if he was giving her a "cheesy pep talk," but Lu Yibai insisted she needed "real chicken soup" to "nourish her brain" and promised to take her for some.
Just then, Lu Yibai received a call from a classmate, who excitedly announced that their drama had won an award, and Lin Xingchen herself had won "Best Popular Actress"! Lu Yibai remarked that she truly had "dumb luck," but Lin Xingchen, overjoyed, simply beamed and declared herself a "little lucky star."
