After Ning Fei kicked Gao Yang and fled with Lin Feifei, the two were quickly cornered by Gao Yang and his friends outside the KTV. Lin Feifei called Zhou Shi for help, and she arrived with Bi Qiu Jing to find Ning Fei being beaten. Zhou Shi rushed to help, ignoring Bi Qiu Jing's warning. Just as the situation escalated, Wei Qing arrived and swiftly subdued the aggressors, warning them to leave.
After they fled, Zhou Shi noticed red rashes on Wei Qing’s neck from an allergic reaction, but he dismissed her concern. Back at the house, Wei Qing was furious to learn that Ning Fei was living on the first floor, having been previously kicked out of his upstairs room by Wei Qing. He declared that the entire property was his and demanded Ning Fei leave, despite Lin Feifei's protests that Ning Fei had paid rent.
At that moment, Ning Fei’s guardian, He Yun, arrived, called by a concerned Zhou Shi. Seeing Ning Fei's injured hand, He Yun immediately assumed Wei Qing was responsible. Without waiting for an explanation, she slapped Wei Qing, accusing him of causing his father’s death and now trying to harm Ning Fei.
Wei Qing, deeply hurt, pointed out that he was her biological son, but He Yun retorted that she wished Ning Fei were her son instead, believing her husband would still be alive. Despite Zhou Shi’s attempts to explain, a heartbroken Wei Qing stormed out, followed by a sympathetic Zhou Shi. Zhou Shi found Wei Qing suffering from a headache and helped him to his room.
There, Wei Qing saw a childhood painting his father had kept, which brought back painful memories of his father constantly criticizing his art and comparing him unfavorably to Ning Fei. He recalled a childhood outburst where he threatened to return to America, causing his father to fall ill. Wei Qing was moved that his father had secretly kept the painting all these years.
Worried when Wei Qing didn't answer his door, Zhou Shi climbed through his window, only to find him emerging from the bathroom in just a towel. After he dressed, Zhou Shi applied medicine to his allergic rash. She told him that Ning Fei had shared his story with her, including how Wei Qing had found Ning Fei unconscious in a bathtub after a hunger strike.
Zhou Shi pleaded with him not to hate Ning Fei, who felt guilty and was only a child at the time. Frustrated that everyone seemed to side with Ning Fei, Wei Qing asked her to stay a while longer, then leaned on her and fell asleep like a child. Meanwhile, Lin Feifei thanked Ning Fei for his help at the KTV. When she asked if he had confessed to Zhou Shi, Ning Fei said yes, and that she was happy.
Misinterpreting this as a romantic confession, a slightly disappointed Lin Feifei congratulated him. The next day, Zhou Shi learned from her professor that due to her prolonged absence, she was at risk of delayed graduation if she failed her exams. Panicked, she sought help for her CET-4 exam from Bi Qiu Jing, who found her vocabulary too poor to teach.
Lin Feifei suggested she ask Li Ming Cheng for tutoring, but he was leaving for a half-month business trip and had to cancel their planned birthday celebration. Lin Feifei then suggested Zhang Shuai, who agreed to help. Zhou Shi requested a half-month leave from Wei Qing, who surprisingly approved it, reassuring her that her treatment could wait. Five days into her grueling study sessions with Zhang Shuai, Wei Qing, missing Zhou Shi, visited the school with Wei An.
They overheard Zhang Shuai expressing frustration at Zhou Shi's slow progress. Wei Qing then secretly intervened by speaking with Professor Yan. Later, Zhang Shuai regretfully told Zhou Shi he had been reassigned to another project and couldn't tutor her anymore. As she despaired, Wei An "coincidentally" appeared and suggested a tutor he knew. Zhou Shi was astonished when Wei Qing revealed himself as the tutor.
He laid down strict conditions: she had to obey his commands 24/7 or the tutoring would cease, starting that night at his house for "training from hell." That evening, after a test, Wei Qing declared that Zhou Shi must move into his house for the next two weeks, as she would have no time to sleep. As Zhou Shi packed, Lin Feifei teased her about Ning Fei's potential jealousy.
The conversation revealed Lin Feifei's misunderstanding: she had tried to orchestrate what she thought was a love confession from Ning Fei, but was frustrated to learn Zhou Shi already knew Ning Fei's secret (his identity as the artist Xun Ran) and felt foolish. Zhou Shi called Ning Fei her "idol," and Lin Feifei wished them well, though she remained suspicious of Wei Qing and surprised by Ning Fei's calm demeanor.
Upon arriving at Wei Qing’s, Zhou Shi’s hopes for a shower and sleep were dashed. Wei Qing made her discard Zhang Shuai's notes, stating traditional methods were too slow. His plan involved three stages: first, rote memorization of key exam questions; second, understanding the overall exam structure; and third, "adaptive response to stress" training, which he bluntly compared to "training a dog." He intended for her to complete twenty practice tests a day until her body reacted to questions automatically.
When Zhou Shi called the method cruel, Wei Qing compared it to circus trainers starving tigers to force them to perform, insisting that intense pressure was the only way to guarantee results.
