As he left, she mused that for him to wait an hour in the cold, he must either have too much free time or no friends at all.
Meanwhile, Wei Qing visited Director Xiao at the university, using the pretense of checking Yun Ma Scholarship files to find Zhou Shi's home address, after which he assigned a task to his assistant, Wei An. Later, Zhou Shi found Li Ming Cheng looking distraught. He confessed he was upset about a recent Go match he had lost to Bi Qiu Jing. He recounted that she found his playing style technically good but "boring," preferring the emotionless challenge of an AI.
However, she did praise his good sportsmanship. When she was leaving, he had asked if she would join his club if it became more interesting, and she had tentatively agreed. Not sharing these details with Zhou Shi, Li Ming Cheng instead offered to treat her to lunch. Unable to readjust to a less lavish lifestyle, she had attempted suicide multiple times. Feifei strongly advised Zhou Shi to return everything if she wanted to avoid any real involvement with him. Wei Qing was unconcerned, stating he needed to show Zhou Shi that he was in control of their dynamic, and he could always apologize later if she found out. He used this false connection to secure a large, unsecured loan for a business venture, which quickly failed, leading to the new debt. As they spoke, the collectors burst in, presenting the IOU. Zhou Shi denied being Wei Qing's girlfriend and claimed to have no money.
When they searched her bag, a large stack of cash fell out. She instantly realized Wei An must have planted it in her bag on Wei Qing's orders. The collectors seized the cash as a partial payment, giving her one month to pay the remainder and threatening to find Wei Qing at his company if she failed. Back at the apartment, Ning Fei had taken to sitting by the window, waiting for Zhou Shi's return.
Bi Qiu Jing noted his devotion to Lin Feifei, who decided to simply maintain her friendship with him since his feelings for Zhou Shi were unrequited. Meanwhile, Li Ming Cheng sent Bi Qiu Jing a Go puzzle, and she, finding him "interesting," began conversing with him regularly, eventually adding him as a friend. Ning Fei, hearing a noise, rushed to the door, only to be disappointed it wasn't Zhou Shi.
Lin Feifei suggested he go visit her, but he revealed he had donated all his money after Zhou Shi refused to take it. Annoyed, Feifei immediately reclaimed her room, banishing him back to the living room. The next morning, Lin Feifei woke to find Ning Fei in her bed, surmising he had sleepwalked there out of habit. Startled, they both woke up, and she promptly kicked him out. Just then, an exhausted Zhou Shi returned.
Feifei immediately complained about Ning Fei donating his money, which could have been used to help her. Later, Bi Qiu Jing discovered that Ning Fei had been anonymously donating large sums to a private autism treatment center in the U. S. for the past five years. Feifei lamented being the "only layman" in the house and gave up on pursuing Ning Fei, assuming he preferred someone like Zhou Shi.
She decided to focus on a modeling interview to meet a new, successful man. For her interview, Lin Feifei borrowed Wei Qing's watch from Zhou Shi, who explained she hadn't managed to return it because Wei Qing had made the excuse that it needed servicing, which she couldn't afford. After warning Feifei to be careful, Zhou Shi went to Yun Ma Group to confront Wei Qing.
He admitted to planting the money in her bag, saying he saw her distress and knew she would need cash. He then proposed a deal: she would become his girlfriend, available whenever he needed her, in exchange for a generous monthly payment. Zhou Shi furiously accused him of using money to trample on people's dignity. Despite her desperate financial situation, she refused to bow to him. Wei Qing then produced a blank check, telling her to fill in any amount. Enraged, Zhou Shi tore it to pieces, declaring it was impossible. Unfazed, Wei Qing said he would wait and see how long she could last on her own.
