She contemplated sending Gu Chenyu a message but ultimately refrained. Meanwhile, Sister Yanran dined with Gu Chenyu and his family. Gu Chenyu’s brother remarked on how hard Sister Yanran worked, attributing it to Gu Chenyu taking her to start a business.
Gu Chenyu’s father, displeased, urged Gu Chenyu to return to his family company, but Gu Chenyu adamantly refused, asserting that voice dubbing was his true profession and reminding his father of their previous agreement that he would return once his identity was public. Gu Chenyu abruptly left the table, leaving Sister Yanran and his brother to reassure his father that Gu Chenyu’s company was thriving and that Sister Yanran would help persuade him when the time was right.
Later, Jin Yao arrived at the company looking for Xie Fei but was stopped by his assistant. Jin Yao cleverly obtained the assistant's business card before leaving. The assistant immediately notified Xie Fei that "Miss Jin" had departed, earning a promise of a bonus from Xie Fei. As Xie Fei exited Gu Chenyu's office, Xia Xiaoning approached him to apologize for a past incident.
Xie Fei, in his usual dramatic fashion, declared that there was no right or wrong in such matters, but then 'remembered' that Xia Xiaoning truly owed him an apology and asked her to keep her roommate, Jin Yao, out of his sight, expressing extreme frustration about Jin Yao's relentless pursuit. Xia Xiaoning later spotted Jin Yao at the company and pulled her into the restroom.
She confronted Jin Yao, who admitted she was there for Xie Fei and intended to investigate everyone around him to ensure he couldn't escape her. Xia Xiaoning urged Jin Yao to be more discreet, reminding her they were at work and to give Xie Fei some face. Jin Yao dismissed Xia Xiaoning's concerns, comparing Xie Fei's reaction to Xia Xiaoning's own pursuit of Mo Buyu, and asserted her right to chase after Xie Fei.
Xia Xiaoning, needing to prepare for a recording session, left, warning Jin Yao not to cause trouble. Gu Chenyu was waiting for Xia Xiaoning, explaining that he returned specifically for her first studio recording. Inside the recording studio, Xia Xiaoning’s performance was lacking, described by the teacher as having "too much hostility" and lacking emotional accuracy. Sister Yanran arrived with food for Gu Chenyu.
The recording teacher, noting Gu Chenyu and Sister Yanran's past as professional voice actors, suggested they demonstrate a scene for Xia Xiaoning. During their performance, Gu Chenyu, playing "Lang Jun," coldly dismissed Sister Yanran's character, "Mohan," as merely "a weed" among his "thousands of flowers," despite her longing for his affection. Xia Xiaoning, deeply affected by the scene, interrupted the recording, claiming to have heard a bad sound, seemingly shaken by the harsh words.
After the session, Gu Chenyu asked Xia Xiaoning to deliver coffee the next day, specifically instructing her to use 45-degree baby-temperature water for Sister Yanran’s coffee, a detail, he noted, known throughout the company. Later, Xia Xiaoning's friend, Lorelei, hinted at Gu Chenyu's affection for Sister Yanran. Gu Chenyu and Xia Xiaoning went to a movie. Xia Xiaoning, eyeing some tempting donuts, begged Gu Chenyu for a bite.
He refused, citing the need for a voice actor to maintain dietary discipline. As they chose a film, Gu Chenyu imagined a romantic movie ending with a kiss, while Xia Xiaoning pictured watching a horror film and clinging to him in fear. Xia Xiaoning, undeterred by Gu Chenyu’s suggestion of her fear, chose the horror film, "Ghost Strike."
During the movie, Gu Chenyu surprisingly appeared more terrified than Xia Xiaoning, grabbing her hand and telling her not to scream, only to end up screaming himself and burying his face in her arms. After the movie, Gu Chenyu bought two drinks, offering Xia Xiaoning a hot, half-sweet milk tea. Xia Xiaoning asked if he knew Sister Yanran's coffee temperature, to which he correctly replied, "Forty-five degrees." She then challenged him to name her preferred milk tea temperature.
When he couldn't, she revealed her preference for "ice milk tea, with as much ice as possible," leaving her hot drink for him and storming off in frustration.
Subsequently, during a conversation with Xie Fei, Gu Chenyu seemed preoccupied with questions about water temperature, prompting Xie Fei to explain that knowing someone's specific preferences indicated intimacy, and he pointed out Gu Chenyu's overly close relationship with Sister Yanran, which was clear to everyone in the company, leading to assumptions that Sister Yanran was his girlfriend. Xie Fei emphasized that no woman would tolerate her partner having another woman constantly by his side.
Gu Chenyu then met Sister Yanran for coffee. Sister Yanran reminisced about their school days, recalling how he used to carefully remember her preference for 45-degree water. Gu Chenyu interrupted her, clearly stating that he was now with Xia Xiaoning. Sister Yanran, in turn, interrupted him, acknowledging his previous rejection but expressing her discomfort at this renewed 'cold water' and insisting she had always considered him family. Gu Chenyu firmly reiterated that the matter was closed.
Meanwhile, Xie Fei, worried about Gu Chenyu's handling of the situation with Xia Xiaoning, called for his secretary to review his schedule. To his shock, Jin Yao entered, announcing that she was now his new "Secretary Jin." Xie Fei, horrified, demanded that she maintain a two-meter distance.
Jin Yao calmly explained that she had secured the position through official channels at Pineapple Radio, and as Secretary Li had suddenly resigned, she was the "most cost-effective and best quality" replacement, having directly skipped the probationary period. When Xie Fei threatened to terminate her contract, Jin Yao retaliated by showing him a video of him drinking and dancing, asserting she had backups.
Xie Fei immediately softened his stance, inviting her to sit and discussing her employment details, though he did propose a "three-chapter agreement": if she made more than ten mistakes, he would terminate her contract. Jin Yao readily agreed, inwardly planning to torment him. She declared her readiness for hard work as long as she could see him daily and promptly began her duties.
Later, the company announced that Gu Chenyu was treating everyone to donuts, causing some to comment on his apparent double standard regarding sweets for voice actors. Gu Chenyu beckoned Xia Xiaoning to the stairwell. He explained that Sister Yanran’s parents had died in a car accident when she was in college, and his father had taken her in, making her like a sister to him, akin to his own brother Xiyuan.
He clarified that knowing her habits, like the 45-degree water preference, was simply due to their shared history. He even offered to call Xie Fei to confirm he also knew this detail. Xia Xiaoning, reassured, expressed her trust in him, declaring she was no longer angry and would even drink 47-degree water. The two then happily shared a donut, biting from opposite sides.
