After parting ways with Guo Chengyu and Wang Shuo, Chi Cheng walked some distance before looking back to find Wang Shuo still following him. Overcome with anger, Chi Cheng grabbed Wang Shuo by the neck, demanding to know why he had left for seven years and questioning his return. Wang Shuo shamelessly admitted he felt too ashamed to stay after sleeping with Chi Cheng, fearing Chi Cheng might kill him if he remained.
He then provocatively expressed his continued desire for Chi Cheng, claiming his appetite had been spoiled and no one else could satisfy him. Chi Cheng, repulsed, declared Wang Shuo disgusting and tried to leave, but Wang Shuo continued to pester him. Suddenly, a friend of Chi Cheng intervened, knocking Wang Shuo unconscious to resolve the confrontation. Returning home, Chi Cheng found Wu Suowei had meticulously crafted many snake-shaped sugar figures.
Wu Suowei explained his intention to blow a sugar figure for every breed of snake in Chi Cheng's collection, creating a unique series, simply because he thought it would be fun. Chi Cheng thanked him but his mind seemed elsewhere. The next day, Chi Cheng met with Jiang Xiaoshuai and was surprised to learn that Wang Shuo had been hospitalized.
Jiang Xiaoshuai suggested Wu Suowei visit Wang Shuo, seeing it as an opportunity for Wu Suowei to assert his position as Chi Cheng's partner. Wu Suowei was initially hesitant, unwilling to seek trouble when Chi Cheng hadn't explicitly confirmed their future together. Jiang Xiaoshuai then revealed that Wang Shuo had been back for half a year, hiding his presence, which he interpreted as Wang Shuo having intentions to win Chi Cheng back.
While Wu Suowei dismissed Wang Shuo's capabilities, he ultimately went to the hospital alone. There, he found Wang Shuo in Ward 309, vigorously playing cards, looking perfectly healthy. As Wu Suowei turned to leave in a hurry, he accidentally bumped into a man carrying medicine. Outside the hospital, Wu Suowei spotted Chi Cheng's new car and called him. Chi Cheng, however, lied, claiming he was with a client and would be back late due to a social engagement.
This left Wu Suowei feeling heartbroken, mistakenly believing Chi Cheng was spending the day with Jiang Xiaoshuai. Chi Cheng was actually at the hospital with Wu Suowei's mother, who was undergoing medical tests. She had asked Chi Cheng to keep her visit a secret from Wu Suowei (whom she referred to as "Da Qiong"), fearing he would be unable to cope with the news.
The doctor informed Chi Cheng that Wu Suowei's mother's condition was not optimistic; the preliminary diagnosis was pancreatic cancer that had spread to her lymph nodes, making surgery ineffective. The doctor advised focusing on alleviating her pain and improving her quality of life, suggesting more family time could potentially extend her life. Chi Cheng, heartbroken by the diagnosis, pressed for any other possible treatments, promising full cooperation.
Wu Suowei's mother reiterated her wish for Chi Cheng not to tell her son about her illness. Struggling with how to explain the situation to Wu Suowei and overwhelmed by grief, Chi Cheng went to a bar and drank excessively, returning home very late and intoxicated. Wu Suowei, though complaining about Chi Cheng's late return and his vague explanation of being with a "troublesome client," lovingly took care of him.
He made Chi Cheng sleep on the couch but later covered him with a blanket, admitting he was afraid Chi Cheng would freeze. The next day, Chi Cheng received a call from his former landlord, urging him to quickly move his remaining belongings from the old rental house as it was being re-rented. Chi Cheng mentioned to Wu Suowei that he was going to the suburbs to pack his things and invited him along.
Wu Suowei declined, stating he had plans to have a meal with Jiang Xiaoshuai. Later that evening, at the old rental house, Wang Shuo appeared, holding a small snake. He confessed he had often visited the place since Chi Cheng moved out, even though Chi Cheng was unaware. Wang Shuo further taunted Chi Cheng by bringing up the story of Chi Cheng killing the snake Huang Long for Wu Suowei.
Chi Cheng acknowledged it, asserting that all the snakes "deserved to die" after Wang Shuo's past actions. Wang Shuo then produced a small snake that had hatched from an egg Chi Cheng had left behind, presenting it to him. Feeling uneasy, Wu Suowei confided in Jiang Xiaoshuai.
He recounted seeing Chi Cheng's car at the hospital and Chi Cheng's subsequent lie about being with a client, and also mentioned that Chi Cheng's friend, Brother Gang, claimed not to have seen Chi Cheng all day. Wu Suowei believed Chi Cheng was covering up his presence at the hospital, possibly with Wang Shuo. Jiang Xiaoshuai, however, thought it was unlike Chi Cheng to be secretive if he truly wanted to see Wang Shuo.
He suggested that many misunderstandings arise from unspoken issues and advised Wu Suowei to do a "surprise check" at the rental house, hinting that Chi Cheng and Wang Shuo might be having an affair there. Wu Suowei, though apprehensive, decided to go, half-jokingly stating he hoped to catch them in the act so he could break up with Chi Cheng and have a singles party. Wu Suowei arrived at the rental house and found Chi Cheng and Wang Shuo together.
He witnessed Wang Shuo forcefully kissing Chi Cheng. Overwhelmed by heartbreak and a sense of betrayal, Wu Suowei left without confronting them. As he walked away, he overheard Chi Cheng receiving a phone call, being identified as "Zhang Liya's son" and urged to "Hurry to the hospital." Wu Suowei, believing he was now single, told himself he hadn't fallen deeply enough for Chi Cheng to be devastated, and that he had been right all along about Chi Cheng being unreliable.
Later, Wang Shuo arrived at Jiang Xiaoshuai's home, claiming to have nowhere else to stay and insisting on spending the night. Jiang Xiaoshuai was reluctant, pointing out he wasn't familiar with Wang Shuo and that Chi Cheng and Guo Chengyu weren't there. Wang Shuo, however, flirted with Jiang Xiaoshuai, complimenting his cooking and even saying he liked him.
Despite initial resistance, Jiang Xiaoshuai, thinking that keeping Wang Shuo at his place would prevent him from bothering Wu Suowei and Chi Cheng, allowed Wang Shuo to stay. The next morning, Guo Chengyu arrived at Jiang Xiaoshuai's house. He found Wang Shuo loudly playing music and immediately turned it off, angrily questioning why Wang Shuo was staying there instead of a hotel and accusing him of messing with his belongings.
Wang Shuo remarked that Chi Cheng had "good taste" in the past, to which Guo Chengyu retorted, asking why he didn't say Guo Chengyu had good taste, implying a rivalry for Jiang Xiaoshuai's affection. Guo Chengyu then angrily sent Wang Shuo away. Afterward, Guo Chengyu expressed his annoyance to Jiang Xiaoshuai, questioning Wang Shuo's intentions and complaining that Wang Shuo had stayed overnight when he himself hadn't.
Jiang Xiaoshuai was secretly pleased by Guo Chengyu's jealousy, and the two shared a passionate kiss. Guo Chengyu then informed Jiang Xiaoshuai he had to go on a business trip and made him promise not to let Wang Shuo into the house again. At the hospital, Jiang Xiaoshuai was at work when Chi Cheng urgently approached him, asking for Wu Suowei's whereabouts.
Jiang Xiaoshuai was surprised, stating Wu Suowei had left his place after 9 PM the previous night and assumed he was with Chi Cheng. Realizing something was amiss, Chi Cheng surmised Wu Suowei must be at the company and decided to go there. Upon finding Wu Suowei at the company, Chi Cheng was met with a cold demeanor. He suspected Wu Suowei had witnessed the kiss with Wang Shuo at his old rental apartment.
Chi Cheng struggled to explain his overnight absence, trying to claim he was with a client again. Wu Suowei sarcastically noted Chi Cheng's newfound tendency to apologize, something he rarely did before. Chi Cheng tried to promise an explanation later, but Wu Suowei, already convinced of Chi Cheng's involvement with Wang Shuo due to the witnessed kiss and Chi Cheng's repeated flimsy excuses, simply accepted his apology with a detached demeanor.
Meanwhile, Wu Suowei's mother insisted on leaving the hospital, not wanting her son to become suspicious. A secretary then announced that "Mr. Wang Shuo" was there to see General Manager Wu Suowei, and Wu Suowei permitted him to enter.
