Despite the intensity of the moment, Nongyu noticed his fresh shoulder wound and expressed genuine concern, even as she admitted her previous attempt to abandon him was real. She criticized his reckless self-treatment, noting he had injected an inhibitor with such force that he had harmed himself.
When Xie Xinxu vowed to win her love to form a formal pact, Nongyu countered that a healthy relationship requires mutual respect and understanding—concepts his possessive instincts and emotional detachment might prevent him from ever grasping. She also challenged him on the rumors of him killing his parents, which he firmly denied. Their argument was cut short by the arrival of Nan Xing, a struggling Ren who appeared in a state of near-collapse.
Claiming he would "tear them apart" if he lost control, Nan Xing demanded Nongyu’s blood, believing it could still save him since she had not yet formed a pact. He tearfully recounted how the Special Administration Bureau had used him as a weapon before discarding him as a "lab rat" for agonizing experiments. However, Xie Xinxu saw through the act, realizing Nan Xing was faking his distress to manipulate them.
To ensure their escape, Xie Xinxu tied the Ren to a pillar and led Nongyu away. Left alone, Nan Xing consoled himself with a lollipop while remembering his friend A-Ze. They had once dreamed of using a substance to simulate death, hoping to escape the researchers who viewed them as "social trash" and find a place where Ren and Yin could live in freedom.
Nongyu briefly returned to confront him, questioning why he had taken so many lives despite his own suffering. Though she left an inhibitor for him, Wu Siyuan and his tactical team arrived before Nan Xing could reach it. Viewing the Ren as nothing more than a dangerous nuisance, Siyuan coldly ordered his men to shoot him, stating such "trash" should be eliminated.
As they reached the perimeter, Xie Xinxu handed Nongyu back to her brother’s forces but urged her to keep his survival a secret. He explained his severe "stress response" to the Bureau, warning that if he went berserk and hurt them, the responsibility would fall on her. He told her she was finally "free" before vanishing into the shadows. When Siyuan found her, Nongyu offered a vague excuse about being chased by lunatics all night.
Back at home, Nongyu sought refuge in sleep, only to be jolted awake by a violent thunderstorm. In her room, she saw Xie Xinxu, who claimed he had changed his mind about letting her go before kissing her forcefully. Nongyu tumbled out of bed and realized it was a dream—and to her surprise, it was an erotic one rather than a nightmare.
Later, Siyuan prepared soup for her and revealed that the investigation into Xie Xinxu’s parents' deaths had been closed due to a lack of evidence before his reported death. To help her move on, Siyuan suggested that marriage was the best way to end her lingering fears. He then presented her with an invitation to an official matchmaking event at a stadium, explaining that the government encouraged pacts between Yin and Ren. Nongyu was stunned to realize that all the suitors her brother had previously arranged for her were actually Ren.
