Following the intense battle, Wu Siyuan and Xie Xinxu both reached out to help Wu Nongyu. Taking both their hands, she expressed her delight at their perfect coordination, hoping they could team up again. Siyuan immediately dismissed the idea, while Li Xiang explained that his refusal was actually a good sign—it meant Wu Nongyu would no longer be in danger, rendering such a collaboration unnecessary.
However, Wu Nongyu scolded her brother, remarking that despite being nearly thirty, he still lacked the judgment to distinguish friend from foe, specifically referring to the betrayal of Secretary Zhang under Director Xia's orders. Siyuan promised to investigate the kidnapping and the second group involved, but when he offered a ride, Xie Xinxu coldly declined, telling Siyuan to focus on his own troubled affairs instead.
As they walked away, Xie Xinxu pulled Wu Nongyu close, demanding she never act alone again. Wu Nongyu admitted that seeing him work with her brother made her happy, and she had greedily hoped for a full reconciliation. She acknowledged that cooperating with someone he disliked was a difficult compromise made for her sake, promising to make it up to him.
Xie Xinxu accepted this with a kiss and insisted she move in with him permanently rather than returning to her apartment. On their way back, Li Xiang noticed Siyuan’s hand was bleeding. She felt the urge to kiss him but hesitated, fearing rejection. To her surprise, Siyuan leaned in and kissed her first. He explained he had urgent matters to settle but promised to return home before midnight to celebrate her birthday.
While away, Siyuan picked out a gift for her. At a shop, he described his girlfriend as a woman who appeared tough on the outside but was incredibly comforting and happiness-inducing to be around, much like a fragrance with gentle middle and base notes. This was to be their third birthday together. Meanwhile, back at home, Li Xiang was resting when she heard a knock.
Assuming Siyuan had returned early, she rushed to open the door, but the person waiting outside was an assassin. When Siyuan finally arrived with a birthday cake, he found the door ajar. Inside, Li Xiang lay on the floor in a pool of blood. She weakly joked that he was so slow she almost couldn't wait for him. Siyuan desperately wanted to take her to the hospital, but Li Xiang knew her time had run out.
Since it was not yet midnight, she asked to blow out the candles and make a wish. With tears streaming down his face, Siyuan prepared the cake. Li Xiang’s wish was that she had never formed a pact with him, so that the man she loved wouldn't die because of her.
Siyuan held her tightly, telling her she should instead wish for him to be punished for his stupidity by losing the love of his life forever, and that in their next life, he would be the one to love her through the most hardship. Hearing him call her his "greatest love," Li Xiang’s fear of death faded. She passed away in his arms after one final, soulful kiss.
Siyuan recalled how, in previous years, he was always called away by work on her birthday, leaving her to cry alone over her cake. He had intended for this year to be different, but tragedy struck. Elsewhere, Director Xia was preparing for a livestream when Secretary Zhang informed her that the plan was a success. Three berserk Ren had been sent to kill Li Xiang in her home, staged to look like a fatal brawl.
Xia was pleased, noting that without Li Xiang, Wu Siyuan wouldn't survive much longer either. The next morning, Wu Nongyu and Xie Xinxu woke up in each other's arms. Nongyu got up early to cook, but Xie Xinxu embraced her from behind, telling her she didn't need to do chores to please him.
He apologized for previously using his love to bind her like a sacrifice to pay off her brother's debts, promising that from now on, she could just be herself. Nongyu playfully teased that she intended to drain him of all that love. As he lifted her up like a child and continued cooking, she requested sashimi porridge and strawberries for breakfast. Their domestic peace was interrupted by the arrival of Wu Siyuan.
Seeing the genuine care Xie Xinxu showed his sister, Siyuan admitted that he had been wrong and that his sister was right all along. He confessed his newfound belief that the Ren possess the capacity for deep love and can be wonderful fathers, friends, and partners. Sensing the weight of this admission, Wu Nongyu recorded his words on her phone. Siyuan looked on with a heavy heart, expressing sincere regret for the actions he had taken in the past.
