Ye Zhaonan woke from a nightmare, dreaming of Liu Xuanming being in danger, but found him safely beside her. Liu Xuanming had prepared breakfast for her and personally served it, asking how it tasted. He promised to cook for her every day in different ways if she liked it. She playfully commented that he was becoming smooth-tongued like Yi Yangjun. Guan then arrived, stating Princess Yunluo wished to see Liu Xuanming.

Liu Xuanming agreed to go, taking a moment to look at Ye Zhaonan before leaving. Yi Yangjun followed after Liu Xuanming departed. Liu Xuanming cooperated with Guan, Feng Lei, and Zhao Jing, allowing them to stage an attack on him. He explained that Muxi City was crucial for Ye Zhaonan's ambitions and she needed to remain there to fulfill them. He instructed them to proceed. Shortly after, Yunluo and Ye Zhaonan rushed in, shocked by the sight of blood.

Liu Xuanming was revealed to be unharmed, as the confrontation had been staged. Yi Yangjun and Tan Rang had arrived and saved Liu Xuanming from the staged threat. Liu Xuanming revealed that he, Tan Rang, and Yunluo had planned this staging to prompt Ye Zhaonan to make the decision to leave Muxi City. Liu Xuanming stated that the process was fake, but his feelings for Ye Zhaonan were genuine, and he would readily sacrifice his life for her if needed.

He expressed surprise that Yi Yangjun had intervened, but Yi Yangjun clarified he saved Ye Zhaonan, not Liu Xuanming, as she would be heartbroken if Liu Xuanming died. Witnessing this, Ye Zhaonan declared she had made up her mind and they should leave Muxi City.

Liu Xuanming remarked that Ye Zhaonan was stubborn to choose to leave Muxi City because of him but added that as long as they were alive, there was still hope, and he wanted to keep Ye Zhaonan safe. Meanwhile, Ke Qianyue helped Zhao Jing pack their belongings, noting they were leaving that night.

She observed Zhao Jing carefully keeping a stack of toilet paper given to him by Zhilan, finding his devotion touching and confirming she had chosen the right person. Elsewhere, Ye Zhaonan brought supplements to Princess Huirou. They engaged in a conversation using veiled metaphors about pupae and cocoons, hinting at transformation, entrapment, and breaking free.

Ke Qianyue then found Bailu, informing her that Ye Zhaonan was preparing to abdicate and they would be leaving Muxi City, instructing Bailu to pack so they could return to Xuanyue together. Bailu relayed this news to Huirou. Huirou learned that the news of Ye Zhaonan and Liu Xuanming's planned departure had spread, leading some ministers to release General Jinfu.

Informed about the intended escape, Jinfu declared his intention to torture Ye Zhaonan and capture Liu Xuanming, immediately ordering the city gates shut to prevent their escape. The news of Jinfu's release and the city lockdown caused panic for Eunuch Sun. Ye Zhaonan, however, remained composed and instructed Eunuch Sun to gather all the civil and military officials as she intended to read out her edict of abdication.

Knowing the gates were sealed, she urged Liu Xuanming to leave the palace and hide at Guan's house, promising to find him after the abdication, but he was reluctant to leave her. Simultaneously, Huirou, having changed her attire, spoke to Yi Yangjun about their plan to take control of both Xuanyue and Muxi, fulfilling Tianmu's long-held ambition. Yi Yangjun called her hopeless, and she struck him, rendering him unconscious.

Back in the assembly hall, Ye Zhaonan addressed the gathered ministers, reading her abdication edict. She spoke of her lineage and tenure as Lord, reflecting on how she was forced to yield her position due to gender prejudice despite her efforts for the people and her ancestors. She proclaimed that while she would abdicate the position, she would not abandon her principles, heart, or will, then challenged the ministers to choose a worthy successor from among them.

The ministers reacted with outrage, publicly accusing Ye Zhaonan of colluding with Liu Xuanming and having a secret relationship with him, labeling her a disgrace to Muxi and demanding she hand over Liu Xuanming. As the tension escalated, General Jinfu arrived, yelling threats at Ye Zhaonan and demanding she hand over Liu Xuanming. Unexpectedly, Liu Xuanming appeared in the hall, stating he would not leave Ye Zhaonan to face them alone. Jinfu ordered Ye Zhaonan to hand over Liu Xuanming.

Ye Zhaonan defiantly refused, daring them to kill her. As Jinfu stepped forward aggressively, Guan, Feng Lei, and Zhao Jing arrived carrying the memorial tablet of the former Lord Ye, Ye Zhaonan's father. They stood with Ye Zhaonan, declaring themselves family and calling the ministers traitors, demanding they pay respects to the former lord's tablet.

Arguments ensued, with ministers claiming the former lord would disapprove of his daughter's association with their enemy, but Guan retorted that a father's greatest comfort is seeing his daughter happy. The ministers hesitated, but Jinfu pressed his demand: for Ye Zhaonan to prove her loyalty as a Muxi person and a member of the Ye family, she must kill Liu Xuanming in front of them and her father's tablet, promising to spare her if she complied. Ye Zhaonan refused.

Liu Xuanming then calmly asked Jinfu if his death would truly satisfy them and ensure Ye Zhaonan's safety. Jinfu confirmed his word. Liu Xuanming pulled out a blade, declared his intention to end his life there in the Muxi court as they wished, and issued a final warning: if they dared to pursue Ye Zhaonan further, his Xuanyue soldiers would retaliate and destroy them. With that, Liu Xuanming stabbed himself and fell. Ye Zhaonan rushed to his side in anguish.

As he lay dying, Liu Xuanming told her not to die without his command and to live on to fulfill her ambition of a prosperous, unified world. With a final thought about his handsomeness, he succumbed. Ye Zhaonan wept over his body. Just then, Princess Huirou appeared, observing the scene and expressing a small regret that Ye Zhaonan hadn't killed Liu Xuanming herself, stating that would have made the event more "wonderful".
