Gu Jingyuan, hearing the repeated announcements in his car, realized Qiao Yan was the "Watermelon Boss," making him the "Steamed Bun." He was annoyed by this public display, finding it more of a threat than an apology. During a phone call, Qiao Yan confessed to using his card to pay for the ads.
She attempted to persuade him not to send her back to Germany, reasoning that if he exposed their secret investigation into the car accident to his grandfather, both of them would face repercussions and be "rolled out of Xijiang." Gu Jingyuan, seeking to counter Qiao Yan's move, tried to lease the taxi ad spots himself but discovered Qiao Yan had already secured them for an entire month, preventing him from doing so.
Gu Jingyuan took Qiao Yan to a land bidding, where Qin Mian was confident of his company's success. Prior to the bidding, Qin Mian had arranged for a man named Feng to obtain internal bidding information and other business secrets from the wife of a man named Wang He. Qin Mian then advised Feng via phone to flee Xijiang as the police were tracking him, promising to arrange his departure from the country once the immediate danger passed.
During the bidding, both Qin's Group and Gu's Group were selected for the final round. The judging panel noted Qin's Group presented a commercial shopping mall concept, while Gu's Group proposed a novel, semi-public-benefit-oriented "children-friendly community." Finding both plans excellent but with individual flaws, the judges called for a new, decisive round of bidding between the two. Following the initial bidding results, Qiao Yan sought out Lu Wanqing, Gu's Group's architectural design director.
Qiao Yan expressed her desire to alleviate the judges' concerns about Gu's Group venturing into semi-public welfare projects, as their previous work had been exclusively commercial. Lu Wanqing initially stated she wouldn't help Qiao Yan directly but agreed to assist Gu Jingyuan, given her role at the company. Qiao Yan asked Lu Wanqing to keep their collaboration a secret from Gu Jingyuan, and Lu Wanqing consented.
Unbeknownst to Qiao Yan, Gu Jingyuan was aware of Qiao Yan frequently visiting Lu Wanqing, as Lin Ze informed him, though he respected their privacy. He instructed Lin Ze to deliver meals to them while they worked late. After days of intense work, Qiao Yan finally revealed her project to Gu Jingyuan: a meticulously crafted model of the children's community, designed with Lu Wanqing's help.
Qiao Yan explained her plan to transform the upcoming press conference into an immersive "experiential Parent-Child Day" to showcase the community. She then invited Gu Jingyuan to be the "first big child" to experience it, leading him into a large pit of ocean balls. As they played, Qiao Yan brought up Gu Jingyuan's childhood, revealing that Lu Wanqing had told her he loved ocean balls as a child but never had the chance to play with them.
Qiao Yan shared her father's belief that a person who doesn't fulfill childhood wishes grows up in vain. Gu Jingyuan thanked her for helping him achieve this childhood dream. Qiao Yan also presented him with a caricature of him smiling, encouraging him to smile more. Later, Qiao Yan confirmed that the taxi advertising had been removed and asked Gu Jingyuan if he would forgive her and not send her back to Germany.
After a moment of thought, Gu Jingyuan relented and told her he forgave her, much to Qiao Yan's delight. Qiao Yan presented the official Parent-Child Day experience plan to Gu Jingyuan. The plan included offering free admission to all visiting families, highlighting Gu's Group's commitment to "human care" beyond just economic value. She also intended to live-stream the event to showcase the children's experiences and invite public oversight.
Gu Jingyuan approved the plan but stressed the importance of safety, directing Lin Ze to rigorously inspect fire safety and catering services. Confident in their success, Qiao Yan declared they would defeat Qin Mian. Soon after, Gu Jingyuan received news that Feng had been apprehended while attempting to flee the country.
In a phone call with a police officer, Qiao Yan learned that during the pursuit, Feng was involved in a car accident, sustaining severe head trauma and falling into a coma, though he was out of life danger. Qiao Yan expressed concern that if Feng didn't wake up, the true culprit behind the car accident (which had affected her parents) might never be identified. Gu Jingyuan reassured her that justice would prevail and criminals would be punished.
Meanwhile, an elder of the Gu family expressed to Gu Jingyuan's grandfather that Gu Jingyuan was not involved in any wrongdoing, citing his repeated efforts to protect Qiao Yan, and that Qiao Yan was astute in her judgment. The grandfather stated he had largely relinquished control of the company to Gu Jingyuan and Qiao Yan, hoping they would not disappoint him. The Parent-Child Day event began smoothly, with families enjoying the activities.
Qiao Yan was seen interacting kindly with a little girl named Xixi, giving her a small red flower. However, the atmosphere quickly soured when several children, including Xixi, reported stomachaches and began to vomit after eating the provided cake. Parents erupted in anger, accusing Gu's Group of serving unclean or expired food and causing food poisoning. Qin Mian, who was observing the live stream of the event, smirked triumphantly.
