Miao successfully recovered data from the memory card, revealing that Qin Ziyu was responsible for Gu Changfeng's death. The model, which Qin Mian had been unable to explain, was found to be with Qin Ziyu. Gu Jingyuan, seeing this evidence, concluded that Qin Ziyu was also involved in his elder brother and sister-in-law's car accident. He declared that Qin Ziyu must pay the price and decided to call the police.
Following the report, officers arrived at Qin Ziyu's residence and apprehended the two security guards who had been involved. After returning home, Qiao Yan was plagued by nightmares, seeing Qin Ziyu's evil face. Gu Jingyuan comforted her, regretting the fear she had experienced. He reassured her that the police were actively searching for Qin Ziyu and that she was safe at home. Qiao Yan, shaken by these events, asked Gu Jingyuan to stay with her.
She then confessed that she had realized her love for him was unconditional; she wanted to be with him regardless of his identity or parentage, and was ready to face everything together. Qiao Yan later visited Luo Qian at Aiying Hospital, where a nurse delivered the grim news that Luo Qian was in the late stages of brain cancer and her family should prepare for the worst.
Qiao Yan stayed by Luo Qian's bedside, imploring her to hold on, reminding her that Gu Jingyuan had just found her and they had not yet truly reunited. When Qiao Yan mentioned Qin Ziyu's name, Luo Qian's condition rapidly deteriorated. Despite the doctors' best efforts, they could do no more, advising the family to say their final goodbyes. In her last moments, Luo Qian expressed a desire to see her son.
Qiao Yan, thinking she meant Gu Jingyuan, assured her that he was on his way. However, Luo Qian clarified that she wished to see Qin Ziyu. Before Qiao Yan could fully process this revelation, Gu Jingyuan arrived. Luo Qian glanced at him briefly before passing away. Gu Jingyuan shared that when he was about three years old, he woke up one day and Luo Qian was simply gone. His stepfather, He Wei, told him she had passed away from illness, a story Gu Jingyuan never entirely believed. He also recalled that Luo Qian used to protect him from He Wei's drunken rages. However, she later began secretly going somewhere regularly, which always made He Wei angrier and led to more severe abuse.
Reflecting on this, Gu Jingyuan now suspected she had been visiting the Qin residence because she couldn't let go of Qin Mian. Gu Jingyuan noticed Qiao Yan's unease but she held back, stating there was something she needed to confirm before telling him, promising it wouldn't put her in any danger. Driven by her suspicions, Qiao Yan paid Gu Jingyuan's stepfather, He Wei, for information, learning that Luo Qian had given birth at Aiying Hospital.
Investigating the hospital's birth records, Qiao Yan was surprised to find that Song Xinyue had also given birth there around the same time. The records showed Luo Qian transferred from a public hospital shortly after Song Xinyue's admission, and Song Xinyue, whose due date was later in August, had a premature birth due to a fall right after Luo Qian delivered. Qin Ziyu was born on June 23rd, the day Luo Qian was discharged.
Qiao Yan inferred that a baby swap had occurred, concluding that Luo Qian could not have orchestrated this alone. She believed Qin Mian and Luo Qian had colluded to switch the children, with Qin Mian raising his biological son and Luo Qian knowing the truth, effectively stealing Gu Jingyuan's life. Qiao Yan approached Ms. Liu, Qin Ziyu's family housekeeper, promising not to involve her if she helped.
Ms. Liu provided toothbrushes from Qin Mian and Qin Ziyu, which Qiao Yan immediately sent for DNA testing. The results confirmed her theory: Qin Mian and Qin Ziyu were indeed biological father and son. However, proving Song Xinyue was Gu Jingyuan's birth mother would be challenging, as Song Xinyue had passed away long ago. He explained that all the shares Qin Ziyu had sold to fund his attempt to acquire Gu's Group were now in his possession. He asserted his right to oversee any board decisions and declared his intention to take over Qin's.
News of Gu Jingyuan's hostile takeover reached Qin Ziyu, who, watching from a hidden location, was enraged. Later, as Gu Jingyuan waited for Qiao Yan at the restaurant she had booked, he saw an old photograph displayed on the wall.
The image triggered a vivid flashback: a younger Gu Jingyuan, referred to as "Yuan," was with a kind woman who asked if he wanted a home, then made a pinky promise to adopt him, saying she'd pick him up in a month. This unsettling memory left him disturbed, making him wonder what Qiao Yan was investigating.
Believing the truth was close to being fully revealed, Qiao Yan booked a restaurant and asked Gu Jingyuan to finish work early so they could have dinner together. Gu Jingyuan, looking forward to their date, arrived at the restaurant and called Qiao Yan, who said she was on her way. However, as Qiao Yan headed to the restaurant, she was ambushed and kidnapped by Qin Ziyu. Unaware of the danger, Gu Jingyuan continued to wait for her.
