With Gu's Group's funds frozen, Gu Jingyuan met with Mr. Yuan, hoping he would make a further investment or accept a loan agreement. Mr. Yuan, however, was secretly colluding with Qin Ziyu. He outright refused a further investment and insisted that Gu Jingyuan use the company's projects as collateral for a loan, which Gu Jingyuan refused, calling it an exploitation.
After Gu Jingyuan left, Mr. Yuan called Qin Ziyu, confirming that Gu Jingyuan did not agree to the terms, and reiterated his loyalty to Qin Ziyu's father. Meanwhile, Qin Ziyu was seen with Zhou Qiao, whom he had arranged to send abroad with a sum of money.
Qin Ziyu warned Zhou Qiao that the money had been transferred to his overseas account and advised him to leave Xijiang to avoid any complications, stressing that Zhou Qiao's report against the Gu's Group was purely due to his personal grudge against Gu Jingyuan and that he had never met Qin Ziyu. Lu Wanqing, also present, tried to subtly ascertain Qin Ziyu's next move.
Qin Ziyu revealed his intention to make Gu Jingyuan lose everything and be completely ousted from the Gu's Group. In a separate investigation, Xu confirmed that Qin Ziyu's car had caused a rear-end collision with Gu Changfeng's car. Qin Ziyu, he concluded, was a "jerk" and would be made to pay. Qiao Yan was consumed by guilt, believing she was responsible for her grandfather's death. She confided in Miao, sharing her suspicion that Qin Ziyu was behind it.
Qiao Yan suddenly remembered that the dashcam footage from Qin Ziyu's car was deleted, and thought it might be recoverable if the memory card could be found. Miao agreed it was possible to restore data if not overwritten, but also pointed out the danger of retrieving the card and suggested involving Gu Jingyuan. Qiao Yan hesitated, unsure how to approach Gu Jingyuan with such a risky plan.
She felt it was her leniency towards Qin Ziyu that led her grandfather to meet him, resulting in the accident. Later that evening, Gu Jingyuan waited anxiously for Qiao Yan to return home. He expressed his worry about her and offered to make her wontons. Qiao Yan acknowledged his concern for Luo Qian and stated they must rescue her from Qin Ziyu's clutches.
On the phone, Qiao Yan proposed to Gu Jingyuan that saving Luo Qian would be an opportunity to stage a fake breakup, making Qin Ziyu believe they had truly separated. Gu Jingyuan strongly opposed the idea, deeming it too dangerous for Qiao Yan to approach Qin Ziyu alone. However, Qiao Yan insisted, arguing that Qin Ziyu was likely her grandfather's murderer and they had no solid evidence, making a direct approach the only way to find his weaknesses.
She urged Gu Jingyuan to protect the Gu's Group while she pursued the truth. After much persuasion, Gu Jingyuan, though deeply worried, agreed to cooperate with her plan to bring justice for her grandfather. Following their plan, Qiao Yan, Gu Jingyuan, Lin Ze, and Miao infiltrated the sanatorium. Miao and Lin Ze, disguised as deliverymen, managed to get past security by bribing the guard. They located Luo Qian, who was disoriented and asking for her photos.
Qiao Yan promised to retrieve them, assuring Gu Jingyuan she would be fine and urged him to take his mother to safety first. As Gu Jingyuan, Lin Ze, and Miao rushed Luo Qian out, Qiao Yan went back for the photos. Qin Ziyu suddenly appeared, holding Qiao Yan hostage. Gu Jingyuan confronted him, warning that detaining a patient was illegal, but Qin Ziyu threatened to involve the media if the police were called. Luo Qian then suffered a medical emergency.
Qin Ziyu seized the moment, forcing Gu Jingyuan to choose between Qiao Yan and Luo Qian. Gu Jingyuan made the difficult decision to take his ailing mother to the hospital first, leaving Qiao Yan behind. Miao was distraught and urged Gu Jingyuan to prioritize Qiao Yan, but Gu Jingyuan insisted on taking Luo Qian to the hospital immediately.
Qin Ziyu, believing his scheme had worked and Qiao Yan would finally see Gu Jingyuan's "true colors," did not physically harm Qiao Yan. Instead, to further manipulate her and sow hatred, he fabricated a story, implying that Gu Jingyuan might have been involved in her parents' death. Qiao Yan feigned anger and a desire to investigate.
Qin Ziyu, pleased with her reaction, offered her a place to stay, unaware that this was all part of Qiao Yan's elaborate ruse to appear to break with Gu Jingyuan and gain access to his property to find the memory card. Qiao Yan accepted, planning to search for the card there, hoping to find evidence that Qin Ziyu was responsible for her grandfather's death.
While Gu Jingyuan was at the hospital with Luo Qian, he remained deeply concerned for Qiao Yan. Qiao Yan, now at Qin Ziyu's residence, prayed for strength to bring him to justice. She secretly entered his art studio, where she discovered paintings by her mother.
Hidden among them, she found a letter from Qin Mian to Qin Ziyu, where Qin Mian stated he would take all the blame for what Qin Ziyu had done, telling his son to forget what he had done and not to seek revenge, but to protect the Qin family first. This letter made Qiao Yan suspect Qin Ziyu’s involvement in her parents' death, questioning if someone other than Qin Mian was involved.
Qin Ziyu, in the meantime, had leaked the news of Qiao Yan and Gu Jingyuan's divorce. Qiao Yan saw the news and confronted him, expressing concern that it might harm the Gu's Group. Qin Ziyu dismissed her concerns, stating it was the perfect time to attack the Gu's Group and offering to help her reclaim it.
When Qiao Yan suggested attending a routine company meeting the next day, hoping to find an excuse to leave, Qin Ziyu seemed reluctant to let her go, offering to accompany her instead. Qiao Yan declined, explaining his presence would be inappropriate given the shareholders. During a late-night snack, Qin Ziyu attempted to kiss Qiao Yan, but she dodged, causing his phone to fall. Qiao Yan apologized and asked him to check if it was broken.
As Qin Ziyu unlocked his phone, Qiao Yan quickly memorized his password. He then expressed his feelings for her, calling her a "ray of light" in his life and promising to be a good husband and father if given a chance. Qiao Yan, feigning exhaustion, excused herself to her room, leaving Qin Ziyu with the hope that she wouldn't disappoint him.
